Falcons | Devonta Freeman, Tevin Coleman splitting time

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 07:17:01 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman is listed as the team's No. 1 running back on the depth chart, although the organization considers RB Tevin Coleman to be just as talented and tries to give equal touches to both players.

Fantasy Tip: This is good news for anyone who waited until the middle rounds of seasonal fantasy drafts to select Coleman. In Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Freeman had 20 rushing yards and 20 receiving yards, while Coleman had 22 rushing yards and 95 receiving yards. For now, Freeman should continue to be viewed as a solid RB2, while Coleman merits strong consideration as an RB3 or flex option.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman not on injury report

Fri, 16 Sep 2016 15:04:04 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (quadriceps) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 16, and is not on the injury report for Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman likely will remain as the starting running back but could lose some playing time to Tevin Coleman, which will hurt his value. Owners should consider Freeman a risky No. 2 back this week and could bench him if they have better options.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman back practicing

Thu, 15 Sep 2016 21:37:13 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (quadriceps) was able to practice fully Thursday, Sept. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman struggled in the opener, and since he could be playing at less than 100 percent, he should be considered a low-end RB2 in Week 2.

Falcons | Devonta Freemman listed as limited

Wed, 14 Sep 2016 15:42:58 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (quadriceps) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known if Freeman's injury will keep him out for Week 2, so owners should keep an eye on the situation. He rushed for only 20 yards on 11 carries in Week 1 and could lose some work to Tevin Coleman moving forward. Freeman should be considered a risky No. 2 running back in most fantasy leagues.

Falcons | RBBC alive and well in Atlanta?

Tue, 13 Sep 2016 09:13:39 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RBs Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman will continue to operate as a committee, according to head coach Dan Quinn. Coleman accumulated 117 total yards on his 13 touches in Week 1, while Freeman had 40 yards on his 15. "We know both these guys are going to be a factor. We just had two running backs active (Sunday), so for the whole portion of the game, both of them have done significant things really well. We're going to utilize them both,'' Quinn said.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman should still be considered the favorite for fantasy production in this backfield, but it is becoming clear Atlanta wants to avoid Freeman carrying the offense on his back like he did for a short time last season. Freeman is still in the RB2 conversation, while Coleman is looking like a solid RB3/flex play going forward.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman mostly bottled up

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 20:58:17 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed 11 times for just 20 yards in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he added four receptions for 20 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman was overshadowed by Tevin Coleman, who had a total of 117 yards from scrimmage on 13 touches. It was almost a 50-50 split for touches and Coleman was much more productive. It's not time for Freeman's fantasy owners to panic after just one game, but it could be a sign of things to come.

Falcons | Bigger role for Tevin Coleman?

Fri, 09 Sep 2016 21:17:01 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Tevin Coleman seems more comfortable this year, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan, and Shanahan said he plans to ride the hot hand at running back to keep both Coleman and RB Devonta Freeman fresh.

Fantasy Tip: Coming off a big year, Freeman is undoubtedly the starter and RB1 candidate, especially in PPR formats. However, it sounds like Coleman could earn his way into a larger role. If you are a Freeman owner, you'd be wise to acquire Coleman as a handcuff.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman struggles

Fri, 26 Aug 2016 13:10:25 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed for eight yards on five carries in the preseason game against the Miami Dolphins Thursday, Aug. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman will be the starting running back this season but is expected to lose some of his work to Tevin Coleman. He likely will be a low-end No. 1 or high-end No. 2 running back in most fantasy leagues but should be more valuable in point-per-reception leagues.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman efficient Thursday

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 20:28:56 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman had four carries for 42 yards and a touchdown in a 24-13 preseason win over the Cleveland Browns Thursday, Aug. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman is unlikely to repeat his numbers from 2015 unless Tevin Coleman misses time. That being said, Freeman should still be considered a high-end RB2 and a borderline RB1 in PPR formats.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman may receive less touches

Mon, 11 Jul 2016 12:33:14 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman likely will receive less carries in 2016 because running backs coach Bobby Turner believes less work will keep Freeman fresher during the season.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman is coming off a solid 2015 season but it appears that he will lose some work to Tevin Coleman this season. He recorded 1,061 yards and 11 touchdowns last season and should still be a No. 2 running back in most fantasy leagues.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman limited Tuesday

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 12:38:19 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (gluteus) was limited during practice Tuesday, June 7, because of a high gluteal strain, but head coach Dan Quinn said the injury is not serious.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman could be limited for the rest of the offseason workouts but should be fine for training camp. He recorded 1,096 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2015 and should receive most of the carries in 2016. He should be selected in one of the early rounds of drafts and will be a weekly starting option.

Falcons | Matt Ryan throwing with teammates

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 14:07:46 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan is getting together with WR Julio Jones, RB Devonta Freeman and other Falcons for passing sessions this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: It sure doesn't hurt for teammates to practice together well before the season starts. There's no telling how offseason comradery and chemistry can impact players during the regular season. Freeman and Jones should already be considered No. 1 players at their respective positions, while Ryan is in backup fantasy quarterback territory.

Falcons | Not expected to tag any players

Tue, 16 Feb 2016 09:51:50 -0800

The Atlanta Falcons are not expected to use the franchise tag this year because none of their players warrant it, according to ESPN.com's Vaughn McClure. RB Devonta Freeman could be a candidate for the tag when his contract is up after the 2017 season.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman probable for Week 17

Fri, 01 Jan 2016 12:06:05 -0800

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (knee) was limited in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as probable for the Week 17 game against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: It is an A+ matchup for Freeman ($8,300, 16.6% of cap), and the back has emerged as an elite option at the position, especially because of his work in the passing game. He posted 35.6 FantasyScore points in his Week 6 meeting with the Saints, and is a lineup building block, if you're spending up at running back.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman, Roddy White limited

Thu, 31 Dec 2015 12:23:00 -0800

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (knee) and WR Roddy White (ankle) were limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman ($8,300, 16.6% of cap) and White should still be able to go in Week 17 despite their limited statuses. They have a tremendous matchup against the New Orleans Saints, who have been the worst fantasy defense versus running backs and the fourth worst fantasy defense against wide receivers. Freeman is definitely worth his FantasyScore price for the last week of the season, while White should be viewed as a flex or WR3.

Falcons | Watch out for Devonta Freeman

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 22:48:50 -0800

In Week 17, Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman will face a New Orleans Saints rush defense which has allowed 132.3 yards per game with 12 rushing touchdowns and 17 runs of 20 or more yards, tied for worst in the NFL.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman ($8,300, 16.6% of cap) burned the Saints for 100 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries while also adding eight reception in Week 6, posting 35.6 FantasyScore points in the process. He needs 20 yards for his first-career 1,000-yard season, and he should have no problem going for at least 80-90 rushing yards with a score.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman limited

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 14:36:05 -0800

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (knee) was limited during practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman ($8,300, 16.6% of cap) should receive a majority of the carries during the game. He has scored a touchdown in each of the last two games but has not averaged more than 3.4 yards per carry in any of his last four games. He will have a favorable matchup against the New Orleans Saints this week and could be a solid starting option in most leagues.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman posts good numbers

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 15:50:15 -0800

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman ran for 73 yards and scored one touchdown in a 20-13 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Dec. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman ($7,900, 15.8% of cap) has had a season derailed by injuries, but they seem to have cleared and Freeman can finish the year on a strong note. Utilize him with confidence in week 17.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman returns to end zone

Sun, 20 Dec 2015 14:31:54 -0800

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed for 56 yards and one touchdown on 25 carries against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 15. It was Freeman's first touchdown since Week 15.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman has been pretty quiet for the last several games and has gone six games without a 100-yard rushing game. He should continue to receive a majority of the carries for the Falcons but is not a strong option next week since he will be facing the Carolina Panthers.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman mostly bottled up

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 15:47:13 -0800

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed 12 times for just 40 yards in the Week 14 game against the Carolina Panthers, and he had three catches for 22 yards with one fumble lost.

Fantasy Tip: The team got away from the run after falling behind, and Freeman's touches were limited. He has been one of the most consistent fantasy threats for Atlanta, but even he cannot be trusted lately.

Falcons | Decent return for Devonta Freeman

Sun, 06 Dec 2015 21:24:53 -0800

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) returned from concussion in Week 13 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he managed just 47 yards on 14 carries. He was able to add 10 receptions for 56 yards on 11 targets.

Fantasy Tip: It appears safe to get Freeman back into the fantasy lineup in all formats, as he did not have any setbacks and was a big threat in the passing game. He faces a Carolina Panthers rush defense which ranks second in the NFL in Week 14.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman active Sunday

Sun, 06 Dec 2015 09:08:06 -0800

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) is active for Week 13's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 3, and Friday, Dec. 4, and merits consideration as a RB1 in FantasyScore this afternoon. However, RB Tevin Coleman ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) should continue to see a decent number of carries for Atlanta.

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 11:46:18 -0800

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) practiced in full for the second straight day Friday, Dec. 4, and is probable to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 13.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) leads all running backs with 11 touchdowns this year despite missing last week. He's definitely riskier than normal on FantasyScore this week returning to lineup, as Tevin Coleman should remain involved to some degree.

Thu, 03 Dec 2015 15:00:28 -0800

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 3.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Freeman ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) is completely past the concussion that kept him out last week. Employ him with confidence in traditional formats, but keep in mind that he could split time with Tevin Coleman ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) as he eases his way back in.

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) is practicing Thursday, Dec. 3, and is out of the non-contact jersey.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) has been cleared to play, so it looks like he'll be taking the field this week. He's not returning to the best matchup, though, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have only allowed four rushing touchdowns to running backs in 11 games.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) piled up 131 yards from scrimmage against Tampa Bay earlier this year, and as long as he does return, he should make a strong RB1 at FantasyScore.

Sun, 29 Nov 2015 07:59:02 -0800

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion), who has been ruled out for Week 12's game against the Minnesota Vikings, was spotted running with the inactives and practice squad players Sunday, Nov. 29.

Fantasy Tip: This is a good sign for Freeman, who has cleared yet another hurdle in the concussion protocol. If all goes well, he could return to action in Week 13's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. RB Tevin Coleman ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) will start against Minnesota and is worth considering in FantasyScore as a flex player because of his low price.

Wed, 25 Nov 2015 09:28:14 -0800

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) is still in the first phase of the concussion protocol and won't practice Wednesday, Nov. 25, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman still has time to be ready for the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, but it doesn't sound promising. Tevin Coleman ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) needs to be added in traditional leagues and would make for a good flyer on FantasyScore if Freeman is out.

Mon, 23 Nov 2015 11:56:52 -0800

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) is off to a good start in the NFL-mandated concussion protocol, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Fantasy Tip: We don't know if Freeman will be able to go through the protocol in time to play in Week 12, so his status will need to be monitored throughout the week. If he can't play, Tevin Coleman should be considered a RB3.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman will have to pass the concussion tests before he is cleared to play, so owners will have to monitor his practice participation next week. Tevin Coleman would start if Freeman misses time and could be a decent starting option in Week 12.

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman had 12 carries for 12 yards and eight catches for 67 yards and a touchdown in a 17-16 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) had his worst rushing performance of the year, but he salvaged his afternoon with his work in the passing game. His versatility has helped fuel his breakout campaign, and he is averaging 126.8 yards from scrimmage per game for the year.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman tops 100 yards again

Sun, 25 Oct 2015 17:52:32 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Freeman ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) continues to thrive as the workhorse for the Atlanta Falcons, and with Tevin Coleman ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) barely seeing any touches, Freeman is worth paying for every week at FantasyScore.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman does it again

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 20:59:02 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman had 13 carries for 100 yards and a touchdown and eight catches for 56 yards and a touchdown in a 31-21 loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Thanks to a bunch of turnovers by Atlanta, Freeman ($8,300, 16.6% of cap) saw limited carries as the Falcons tried to dig out of a 24-7 hole. He still put up another monster line, and his ability as a pass-catcher helps ensure he will be able to justify his price tag at FantasyScore regardless of the how a game plays out.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman ($8,300, 16.6% of cap) has been playing out of his mind the last three weeks, so it's hard to believe he won't play this Thursday. Because of his recent success, he'll cost a pretty penny on FantasyScore, but he's worth it with the way he's been playing.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman limited

Mon, 12 Oct 2015 16:46:02 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (toe) was limited during practice Monday, Oct. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman has been on a roll with seven touchdowns in the last three games and at least 100 rushing yards in two of those games. Freeman should be a solid starting option as long as he is producing in the running game.

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman ran 27 times for 153 yards and a touchdown in the Week 5 game against the Washington Redskins, and he added seven receptions for 44 yards on eight targets.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) has emerged as a must-start in FantasyScore regardless of the matchup, as he is just putting up giant numbers week in and week out. He has eight rushing touchdowns over the past four games, and 262 rushing yards with 17 catches and 177 yards in the past three outings.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman should still start

Sat, 10 Oct 2015 11:32:49 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman should remain the starting running back even with RB Tevin Coleman returning this week, according to ESPN.com's Vaughn McClure.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) has played out of his mind the last two weeks with Coleman ($3,800, 7.6%) sidelined, so this shouldn't come as a big surprise. Although, Freeman probably won't see as much playing time as he has the last two weeks. With Freeman at a hefty price and with Coleman back, this may be the week to avoid Freeman.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman's numbers eye-popping

Tue, 06 Oct 2015 16:34:12 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman has seven rushing touchdowns in the last three weeks. No Falcons running back had scored more than six touchdowns in a season since 2012.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman's ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) breakout is a greatly attributed to offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's zone-blocking system, which Freeman excels in. It hasn't hurt that rookie Tevin Coleman (ribs) has been hurt. With numbers like that, though, a letdown is coming, and Week 5 against the Washington Redskins could easily be it. The 'Skins are allowing the fewest PPR points to rushers per game in the league (13.0).

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman had 14 carries for 68 yards and three touchdowns and five catches for 81 yards in a 48-21 win over the Houston Texans in Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) is making the most of his starting role, and it is hard to see him heading to the bench when Tevin Coleman returns from injury. Freeman looks like a strong play at FantasyScore, especially while Coleman is sidelined.

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (toe) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 2, and is listed as probable for the Week 4 game against the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) will continue to receive a majority of the carries while Tevin Coleman is out of the lineup and is coming off a Week 3 game where he rushed for 141 yards and three touchdowns. Freeman should be a solid starting option in all leagues in Week 4.

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (toe) was limited in practice for a second consecutive day Thursday, Oct. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman should be the Falcons' featured back again this week with Tevin Coleman likely out. If Freeman is full health, he's a good option on FantasyScore.
