Falcons | Devonta Freeman out of concussion protocol

Tue, 29 Aug 2017 10:55:01 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman is no longer in the concussion protocol and has been fully cleared to return to practice.

Fantasy Tip: It may have taken longer for him to return that owners would have liked, but the Falcons were always going to be cautious with their new $8 million man at running back. Owners should consider him a high-end RB1 in drafts and a very good play in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman almost ready

Tue, 22 Aug 2017 10:51:38 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) is in the final stages of the concussion protocol, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Fantasy Tip: There has generally been little concern about Freeman's ability to be ready for the start of the season, and this falls in line with the news that has been coming out of Atlanta. A strong case can be made for Freeman to be the third running back off the board in fantasy drafts as the only player to rush for at least 1,000 yards and score at least 10 touchdowns in each of the last two seasons.

Fri, 18 Aug 2017 12:12:20 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (concussion) will not play against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Aug. 20. Head coach Dan Quinn said Freeman's condition is not serious.

Fantasy Tip: There have been no indications Freeman will much more time. Since Ezekiel Elliott's suspension announcement, there has been some debate as to what running back should be the next one off the board after David Johnson and Le'Veon Bell. Freeman is as good a candidate as any, as he is the only back over the last two seasons to rush for over 1,000 yards and score at least 10 touchdowns both years. The fact he adds 50-plus receptions makes him a rock-solid RB1.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman in class of his own

Wed, 09 Aug 2017 21:33:58 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman is the only running back to have logged at least 1,000 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground in each of the past two seasons.

Fantasy Tip: After a rookie season to forget in 2014, Freeman broke out in a big way in his sophomore campaign and hasn't looked back, proving to be one of the top running backs in all of fantasy. Although Atlanta has a very capable No. 2 running back in Tevin Coleman, Freeman is still someone worth building your fantasy ground game around, and should be targeted early for plenty of reasons.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman is also one of the top backs in fantasy. His 4.8 yards per carry was nearly a full yard improvement from the previous year. There is a little left to be desired in his 1,079 rushing yards, but his usage is tapered by Tevin Coleman's presence. Freeman is a pretty safe RB1

Fantasy Tip: Freeman has a good chance of receiving an extension at some point before the start of regular season, so owners should monitor the situation. He will continue to share time with Tevon Coleman at running back but will see most of the carries. He rushed for 1,079 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2016 and should be a solid No. 1 running back for fantasy owners.

Freeman is one of the better running backs in the NFL in 2016 and will continue to see a majority of the snaps at running back. He should be considered a No. 1 running back in all fantasy leagues.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman wants 'elite' money

Wed, 17 May 2017 10:11:17 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman wants to be "elite paid", according to ESPN's Josina Anderson. "I want to be the best. I want to be elite paid. Whatever that is, that's where I want to be," Freeman said.

Fantasy Tip: It's a bit funny Freeman is giving off the impression he doesn't know how much money the elite backs make, but he is justified in asking to be paid like one of the league's top backs because he is. Le'Veon Bell is the highest-paid back in the league this year making $12-plus million on the franchise tag, while LeSean McCoy and Doug Martin rank second and third at $8.01 million and $7.15 million, respectively. The fourth-year pro is entering his walk year and a rock-solid RB1 in all formats.

Falcons | Holdout unlikely for Devonta Freeman

Tue, 16 May 2017 10:25:35 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman said he can't envision himself holding out if contract negotiations were to come to a halt. Freeman has one year left on his rookie deal.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman's extension is down the road a bit, and it would be a huge surprise to see him wearing something other than black and red for the next several seasons. Splitting touches with Tevin Coleman hasn't hurt Freeman's fantasy value. He's a top 10 back with more significance in PPR leagues.

It is not likely that the two sides will commence negotiations before training camp and negotiations could spill into the regular season. Freeman has one year remaining on his rookie contract.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman extension likely around camp

Sat, 08 Apr 2017 15:30:24 -0700

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff expects to address a contract extension for RB Devonta Freeman "going into training camp" Dimitroff told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Tuesday, April 4. "We will address this. When you look at our history, we address these situations going into training camp. I'm throwing that out there as a general timeline. I don't know when that exactly will be, but I'm confident that something can get wrapped up and he's going to be part of us for years to come," Dimitroff said.

Fantasy Tip: The loss of offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan will hurt the Falcons' offense, but Atlanta has done a good enough job building its talent base on offense in recent years that Freeman should remain a quality RB1 in fantasy.

Falcons | Atlanta boasted best running back duo

Thu, 23 Feb 2017 14:48:20 -0800

Atlanta Falcons RBs Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman produced the best numbers of any backfield combination in 2016. Their main production came in the endzone, tallying a combined 24 total touchdowns. Freeman finished with over 1,500 total yards, while Coleman finished just shy of 1,000 total yards.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman will be the main guy going forward, but Coleman deserves credit. Despite backing up Freeman, Coleman ended the season as the RB18, one spot behind Lamar Miller and one spot ahead of Todd Gurley. It's hard to imagine they'll have similar seasons, but they have proven that they can successfully coexist. View Freeman as an RB1 with more value in PPR leagues, while Coleman should be drafted as an RB2.

Freeman has quickly proven himself as one of the most versatile running backs in the NFL over the last two seasons. Freeman is an RB1 candidate in all formats even with Tevin Coleman splitting time with him.

Falcons | Devonta Freeman with mixed bag against GB

Thu, 19 Jan 2017 07:19:23 -0800

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed 11 times for 35 yards and a touchdown with four catches for 23 yards and another touchdown against the Green Bay Packers in Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: The Falcons were without Tevin Coleman, and it was a close game, but the team kind of gave up on the run. Without those two touchdowns, it would have been a poor fantasy output for Freeman. The Packers have allowed just 11.1 fantasy points per game to RBs in the playoffs and no touchdowns. Freeman has a tough matchup in the NFC title game, but he'll be in the second tier of RBs in playoff pools.

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman totaled 125 yards in a NFC Divisional Round win over the Seattle Seahawks, rushing for 45 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries and adding four catches for 80 yards.

Fantasy Tip: The rushing line isn't overly impressive, but Freeman did more than enough to make his DFS owners happy, scoring from a yard out in the third quarter. The highlight of his day was a 53-yard catch-and-run in the third quarter that set Atlanta up for a field goal on the drive after his score. Freeman will remain a very smart pick in all playoff formats next week regardless of whether the Falcons face the Dallas Cowboys or the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman carried the load with Tevin Coleman sidelined again, but he was mostly bottled up by the Eagles rush defense. Fantasy owners need to make alternate plans in Week 11 with the Falcons on a bye.

Sun, 30 Oct 2016 21:47:09 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (hip) carried 11 times for 35 yards and a touchdown in the Week 8 game against the Green Bay Packers, and he added four grabs for 23 yards and a score on six targets.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman was battling a hip pointer going into play, and he was spelled by Terron Ward maybe a little more than he normally would have been if 100 percent healthy. With Tevin Coleman on the shelf Freeman remains a must-start fantasy option across the board as long as he is healthy.
