Bills | Jordan Matthews gets in some individual work

Wed, 23 Aug 2017 11:44:51 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Jordan Matthews was dressed in full gear and participated in positions specific drills during the individual portion of practice open to the media Wednesday, Aug. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Matthews appears to be on track to play Week 1 after suffering a chest injury last week, and he'll likely be cast as a starter opposite rookie Zay Jones if he continues to progress physically. He'll be hard-pressed to be much more than a WR5 in most leagues, however.

Bills | Jordan Matthews on track for opener

Tue, 22 Aug 2017 08:32:43 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Jordan Matthews (chest) is on schedule for Week 1, according to head coach Sean McDermott.

Fantasy Tip: Treat this injury much like you would someone with broken ribs. He can play through it, but it's a pain tolerance issue. One big hit or fall early in the season could put him out of the game. Couple that with Buffalo's struggling offense, and while Matthews has some upside as a WR3, his outlook for the early schedule is murky.

Bills | Jordan Matthews unsure about preseason games

Mon, 21 Aug 2017 17:22:48 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Jordan Matthews (chest) said he is not sure if he will play in any preseason games because he needs to be smart about his injury but is optimistic about his availability for Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Matthews likely will be one of the starting receivers for the Bills this season and could lead the team in receptions if he stays healthy. The Bills likely will be a running team this season, which will hurt Matthews' value. Owners in most leagues probably should consider him a No. 4 or No. 5 receiver.

Bills | Jordan Matthews gets in individual work

Sun, 20 Aug 2017 11:51:55 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Jordan Matthews (chest) was spotted in a helmet but was not in pads Sunday, Aug. 20, catching passes with the rest of his position group during individual work, according to WGR Sport Radio 550's Sal Capaccio.

Fantasy Tip: It's a promising sign for a player who suffered a chip fracture in his sternum during his first practice with the team last weekend. The injury probably cost Matthews any shot of beginning the season as a starter, but he is trending in the right direction in terms of being able to play against the New York Jets on Sept. 10. He's a WR5 candidate with limited upside for fantasy purposes in Buffalo.

Bills | Jordan Matthews doesn't travel

Thu, 17 Aug 2017 08:32:24 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Jordan Matthews (chest) didn't travel with the team for the second preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday, Aug. 17.

Fantasy Tip: The chip fracture in his chest is a painful one, and he'll have to manage the pain. Matthews' status as a good WR3 in PPR leagues is unchanged.

Bills | Jordan Matthews week to week

Mon, 14 Aug 2017 05:21:13 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Jordan Matthews (chest) has a chip fracture in his sternum, and the team is calling his status "week to week."

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like he'll be ready to go for Week 1. The change of scenery doesn't change his outlook in fantasy a whole lot. He remains a solid WR3 in PPR leagues.

Bills | Jordan Matthews injures chest

Sun, 13 Aug 2017 14:07:20 -0700

Buffalo Bills WR Jordan Matthews (chest) suffered a chest injury during practice Sunday, Aug. 13, but was able to finish practice. He was being evaluated after practice.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to find out the severity of Matthews' injury. He should be a starting receiver this season for the Bills, but owners will have a better understanding of his role when he plays in preseason games. Matthews probably can be considered a No. 3 fantasy receiver.

Fri, 11 Aug 2017 19:08:55 -0700

Eagles | Jordan Matthews traded to Buffalo

Fri, 11 Aug 2017 10:32:31 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews was traded along with a 2018 third-round selection to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for CB Ronald Darby on Friday, Aug. 11.

Fantasy Tip: The writing has been on the wall regarding Matthews' imminent departure for a while, as Nelson Agholor has been one of the stars of training camp and the offseason in general. Agholor will most likely absorb Matthews' slot role while Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith start on the outside. The Eagles also addressed their woeful secondary by landing Darby, who looked like an up-and-comer as a rookie before disappointing as a sophomore in 2016.

Bills | Buffalo lands Jordan Matthews from Philly

Fri, 11 Aug 2017 10:22:03 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews was traded along with a 2018 third-round selection to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for CB Ronald Darby on Friday, Aug. 11.

Fantasy Tip: The Bills wasted no time filling the void left behind by the trade of Sammy Watkins. Matthews should have no problem securing a starting job opposite rookie Zay Jones in Buffalo, while Anquan Boldin gives the team a viable option out of the slot in a part-time role. Since it remains to be seen whether or not Tyrod Taylor (or the Bills' offense) can support two starting fantasy receivers, Jones and Matthews could easily settle in as low-end starters in three-receiver leagues.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews on the block?

Wed, 09 Aug 2017 09:25:40 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews remains a candidate to be traded, in part due to the team's unexpected depth at receiver, according to Philly Voice's Jimmy Kempski.

Fantasy Tip: Head coach Doug Pederson and offensive coordinator Frank Reich have told the media two different stories about Matthews possibly losing snaps, but the praise surrounding Nelson Agholor has been consistent. Matthews would be an obvious upgrade for the New York Jets, although they would be unlikely to give up much more than a fourth-round pick unless they could get him to agree to an extension. At any rate, Matthews is little more than a late-round flyer at this point.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews won't have reduced role

Tue, 08 Aug 2017 08:45:57 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews won't have a reduced role this year, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

Fantasy Tip: The question came on the heels of speculation that Nelson Agholor was gaining on Matthews' spot in the slot. Matthews, while health is always an issue, is a rock-solid WR3 in PPR leagues.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews practicing fully

Tue, 01 Aug 2017 17:10:56 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (knee) has yet to miss practice and been a full participant in every session while coming back from knee tendinitis, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Zach Berman, who adds Matthews is "still rounding back to full speed."

Fantasy Tip: There is plenty of reason to believe Matthews is dealing with something more than just tendinitis, but the amount of practice time he is logging is a positive regardless. Still, his competition for targets increased greatly this offseason, making him a risky WR3 at best in fantasy.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews practicing again

Fri, 28 Jul 2017 05:53:27 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (knee) is practicing for the second consecutive day Friday, July 28.

Fantasy Tip: The knee issue appears to have been minor, and Matthews is a solid WR3 in PPR leagues.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews suited up

Thu, 27 Jul 2017 09:50:26 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (knee) is suited up for practice Thursday, July 27.

Fantasy Tip: It seems the report that there was fear his knee issue was more than tendonitis has been defused. Matthews is a WR3 and better suited for PPR leagues.

Eagles | Growing concern over Jordan Matthews?

Wed, 26 Jul 2017 06:13:29 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (knee) has growing concerns in the locker room that his knee issue is more than tendonitis. However, there is talk elsewhere in the building that he could have practiced more in the spring, and the issue is his contract. He's in the final year of his rookie deal, and the team hasn't approached him about an extension. Head coach Doug Pederson hinted that Matthews would be limited when full-squad workouts begin Thursday, July 27.

Fantasy Tip: Matthews had a 73-804-3 season last year, and he has struggled with drops in his career. Now in his fourth season, we have a pretty good understanding of what kind of player he is. He's a good WR3 in PPR leagues, but his 11.9 yards per reception in his career doesn't give a lot of excitement for upside.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews may be limited

Sun, 23 Jul 2017 15:45:28 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (knee) may receive limited snaps during training camp since he missed some offseason workouts because of knee tendinitis, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the situation because Matthews has dealt with injuries over the last year or two. Matthews is expected to be the slot receiver this season but could lose some targets since the team added Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith this offseason. He can be a No. 3 or No. 4 receiver for fantasy owners as long as he can stay healthy.

Eagles | Carson Wentz working with receivers

Mon, 10 Jul 2017 11:12:53 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz is working with several Eagles this week, including WRs Alshon Jeffery and Jordan Matthews and TE Zach Ertz.

Fantasy Tip: It's always nice to see a young quarterback working out with his pass-catchers during the offseason, especially when it's not required. Wentz has solid upside in his sophomore year and has the receiving corps to break out. Draft him as a QB1 is ill advised, but he makes for a quality QB2.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews expects to be at camp

Thu, 15 Jun 2017 14:21:41 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (knee) expects to be ready for training camp despite dealing with knee tendinitis.

Fantasy Tip: Matthews will man the slot again this year with newly acquired teammates Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith playing on the outside. With the added company, Matthews' stock takes a hit and places him in the WR3 to WR4 conversation.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews could play if needed

Thu, 08 Jun 2017 08:02:35 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (knee) could play if this were the regular season, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

Fantasy Tip: Matthews has yet to take that next step to prove he's the go-to guy on a team. He remains a WR3 candidate in fantasy.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews remains sidelined

Mon, 05 Jun 2017 16:47:03 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (knee) did not participate in organized team activities Monday, June 5, because of knee tendinitis.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye out on the situation to see if Matthews is still dealing with this injury when training camp starts. Matthews probably will continue to be used as a slot receiver and should see a solid amount of targets if he is healthy. He can be considered a No. 3 or No. 4 receiver in fantasy leagues.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews slowed by tendinitis

Sun, 04 Jun 2017 07:35:17 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (knee) missed the final practice of OTAs last week due to tendinitis in his knee.

Fantasy Tip: Although Matthews is expected to play his natural position of slot receiver in 2017, owners shouldn't expect an improvement to his 73-804-3 stat line due to the offseason acquisitions of Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith. View him as a WR3 in most fantasy formats.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews trade a possibility?

Fri, 21 Apr 2017 09:28:23 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews could be available for trade at some point this year because "he's going to expect more money than what he's worth," according to Philly Voice's Jimmy Kempski.

Fantasy Tip: Despite his size, Matthews excels more in the slot than he does on the outside in an offense that isn't nearly as wide-open as former head coach Chip Kelly's was. Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith signed as free agents in March, so Matthews is unlikely to see any of his numbers from last year (73 catches, 804 yards and three touchdowns) increase in 2017.

Eagles | Big role for Jordan Matthews?

Thu, 30 Mar 2017 18:56:36 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews is a "big part" of the offense and a "dynamic" slot receiver, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

Fantasy Tip: Philadelphia's offseason additions should allow Matthews work primarily out of the slot. Playing in his natural position, he should deliver WR3 production.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews can be landed in trade?

Mon, 06 Mar 2017 06:24:55 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews could be acquired in a trade for the right price, in the opinion of Yahoo! Sports' Charles Robinson.

Fantasy Tip: Matthews fizzled with a 73-804-3 season last year. Two years ago, his 85-997-8 line spread optimism that he could be elevating to an upper tier. If he returns to that form, he's a high-end WR2, but he'll probably dwell in the lower portions of second receivers in drafts.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews inactive for Week 17

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 08:39:31 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (ankle) has been declared out for Week 17's game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Fantasy Tip: Matthews was only able to participate on a limited basis in one of the team's three practice sessions held during the week, so it's not surprising that he is not suiting up this afternoon. WRs Dorial Green-Beckham, Paul Turner and Bryce Treggs should see more targets in Week 17 as a result of Matthews' absence. He finishes the season with 73 receptions for 804 yards and three touchdowns.

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (ankle) was very limited during practice Friday, Dec. 30, and may not be able to play against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 17.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to check the inactive list to see if Matthews will be in uniform, but he will be a risky option if he plays since he may receive limited playing time. Owners may want to look for other options to use in case Matthews sits out.

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (ankle) was limited during practice Friday, Dec. 30, and is listed questionable for Week 17.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to check the inactive list to see if Matthews will play, but he has been able to play with the injury over the last few weeks. He has a solid role in the passing game and can be a No. 3 receiver in most fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Matthews likely will return to practice later in the week and should be able to play in Week 17. He has been limited to 39 yards in the last two games but has been targeted at least 10 times in six of the last eight games. He can be considered a No. 3 receiver in leagues.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews sits out

Wed, 28 Dec 2016 08:01:53 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (ankle) is out of practice Wednesday, Dec. 28, and he's day to day.

Fantasy Tip: Matthews should be fit to go against the Dallas Cowboys in the finale. He was held to two catches for 12 yards last week, but Dallas has little to play for with their playoff fate locked up. Matthews has a little upside as a WR3 this week.

Thu, 22 Dec 2016 21:40:51 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews finished with two catches for 12 yards in a 24-19 win over the New York Giants Thursday, Dec. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Matthews has managed just 39 receiving yards over the last two games combined, but he should rebound and provide WR3 production against Dallas in Week 17. Matthews logged a season-high 11 grabs against the Cowboys earlier this year.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews active

Thu, 22 Dec 2016 16:02:30 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (ankle) is active Thursday, Dec. 22, against the New York Giants.

Fantasy Tip: Matthews has underperformed in recent weeks, but the absence of Janoris Jenkins tonight should give him a better opportunity to succeed. Carson Wentz has been erratic and Matthews may not be 100 percent, but he's still a WR3 consideration.

Wed, 21 Dec 2016 11:55:12 -0800

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (ankle) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Dec. 21, and is listed as questionable for Week 16.

Fantasy Tip: Matthews should be able to play against the New York Giants and should see a decent amount of targets during the game. He has been targeted at least 10 times in six of his last seven games and can be at least a flex option in most leagues.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews questionable

Wed, 21 Dec 2016 08:36:14 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (ankle) is listed as questionable for Week 16, but head coach Doug Pederson said Matthews should play.

Fantasy Tip: Matthews had 11 targets last week and turned in six catches for 27 yards. His 71-792-3 line leaves a lot to be desired outside of PPR formats, and he has a tough draw against the New York Giants. He's a spotty WR3 this week.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews fully practices

Tue, 20 Dec 2016 13:38:45 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (ankle) participated fully in practice Tuesday, Dec. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Matthews has done little with a lot of opportunities this year. Erratic play from Carson Wentz hasn't helped. Plus, the Eagles face a tough test in the New York Giants this week. Matthews should not be considered more than a flex consideration in championship matchups.

Eagles | Jordan Matthews has full practice

Mon, 19 Dec 2016 14:44:03 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (ankle) was a full participant in practice Monday, Dec. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Matthews has been targeted a lot this year -- 111 times -- but he hasn't done much with that high volume, amassing just 792 yards and three touchdowns through 13 games played. He has a tough matchup this week against the New York Giants and should only be viewed as a WR3 or flex option.

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews caught six passes for 27 yards against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 15.

Fantasy Tip: Matthews has posted at least 65 yards in four of the last six games but has only one touchdown in his last nine games. Thu, 15 Dec 2016 08:53:19 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews (ankle) returned to practice Thursday, Dec. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Matthews takes on the Baltimore Ravens this week. He has dealt with various injuries this season, is playing with a rookie quarterback and is in an offense that likes to run the ball, which has hurt his value. He's a solid WR3 in PPR leagues.
