Packers | Jeff Janis a work in progress

Wed, 02 Mar 2016 10:04:23 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Jeff Janis needs to improve his route running and learn how to better read defenses in the NFL. "He kind of has a stiffness there, and Luke, he took that on about Week 7 there after the bye week, and you could see him improve. He just needs things like that. You only get so much time with your players compared to prior years, but I'm hoping he takes another big step." Head coach Mike McCarthy said.

Fantasy Tip: The Packers felt Janis wasn't ready to make a big impact last year, despite the fact that Green Bay's receivers struggled mightily minus the injured Jordy Nelson. Janis had only two catches for 79 yards in the regular season but broke out for over 100 yards and two scores in their playoff loss, showing us he has potential. With Nelson returning this year, Janis is one to watch and could be worth a late-round flier in deeper leagues.

Packers | Jeff Janis praised by Mike McCarthy

Mon, 18 Jan 2016 23:37:37 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Jeff Janis posted just two receptions during the regular season, but he stepped up with seven grabs for 145 yards and two touchdowns in the playoff loss against the Arizona Cardinals. Head coach Mike McCarthy liked what he saw. "As a receiver, he was inconsistent, had some chances, up-and-down (this season)," McCarthy said. "But with that, I think he definitely learned from those experiences and just had a tremendous game against Arizona."

Fantasy Tip: Janis stepped up with Davante Adams sidelined and Randall Cobb leaving early, but remember that all of those guys will be back, as will Jordy Nelson, Jared Abbrederis and Ty Montgomery. In addition, the team could add help in the offseason in the form of a free agent or draft pick, so while Janis looked good, don't get too carried away with him in keeper fantasy formats.

Packers | Jeff Janis big in loss

Sat, 16 Jan 2016 20:56:19 -0800

Green Bay Packers WR Jeff Janis had seven catches for 145 yards and two scores in a 26-20 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in the divisional round of the playoffs Saturday, Jan. 16.

Fantasy Tip: With the Packers banged up at the receiver spot and James Jones bottled up by Patrick Peterson, Janis was thrust into a larger role and made the most of it. Despite the memorable game, he will likely fade back into fantasy irrelevance next year when Green Bay's receiving corps is back at full strength.

Packers | GB offense lacking speed

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 09:10:25 -0800

The Green Bay Packers have the slowest team in the league when it comes to skill positions in the passing game. The combined average 40-yard dash time of WRs Randall Cobb (4.55 seconds), Davante Adams (4.56), James Jones (4.6) plus TE Richard Rodgers (4.87) ranks as a league-worst 4.65 seconds. One of the biggest reasons the Packers receivers can't get open consistently this year is because of their lack of speed, according to an NFL scout. The loss of WR Jordy Nelson and his 4.51-second 40-yard dash has slowed this offense down. WRs Jeff Janis and Ty Montgomery are much faster, but neither is a top three receiver for the team right now, and Montgomery has missed the last two games with an ankle injury.

Fantasy Tip: As Demovsky notes, the biggest thing hurting this aerial game is the absence of Nelson as one of Aaron Rodgers' ($8,800, 17.6% of cap) favorite go-to targets. Rodgers will stay afloat but shouldn't be considered an elite QB1 week in and week out. This weekend against the Detroit Lions he should at least be able to put up respectable numbers for those that pay up for him on FantasyScore.

Packers | James Jones ahead of Jeff Janis

Tue, 08 Sep 2015 16:41:47 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR James Jones is listed ahead of WR Jeff Janis on the Packers' depth chart.

Fantasy Tip: That didn't take long. Jones' familiarity with Green Bay's offense and his connection with QB Aaron Rodgers obviously give him an advantage and help him make up for lost time. Randall Cobb and Davante Adams will still be the top two options in the passing game, and Ty Montgomery will also have a role, but Jones might be worth a waiver wire pickup.

Packers | Jeff Janis hasn't won over QB yet

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 18:39:15 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jeff Janis is in the running for the No. 3 receiver job with WR Ty Montgomery, but beat writer Rob Reischel notes that Janis hasn't won over QB Aaron Rodgers yet. "Jeff will have some great days and some days where mentally he's making too many mistakes," Rodgers said. "The talent and athleticism are there. We just need to see from all those guys battling for those two spots just some more consistency."

Fantasy Tip: Janis could very well emerge as a fantasy option, and a very important one, by season's end. While being the No. 3 or 4 receiver in an offense in most places isn't attractive from a fantasy perspective, playing with Rodgers in Green Bay changes that.

Packers | Ty Montgomery with first-team

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 11:00:04 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Ty Montgomery is practicing with the first-team offense Tuesday, Aug. 25, with WR Jeff Janis with the scout team.

Fantasy Tip: This is the first practice since it was announced Jordy Nelson tore the ACL in his knee and is lost for the season, so nothing is set in stone. However, Montgomery will be given the first chance to move up the depth chart to replace Nelson. A lot can change between now and Week 1, so keep an eye on this competition. Whoever wins the job could be useful for receiver depth in deeper fantasy leagues.

Packers | Ty Montgomery the WR3?

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 05:30:42 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Ty Montgomery will be the slot receiver in practice this week with WR Jeff Janis, WR Myles White, WR Larry Pinkard, WR Ed Williams and WR Jared Abbrederis competing for a spot after him.

Fantasy Tip: Montgomery is a rookie, but the slot role in this offense has solid potential. He's a WR5 flyer worth making.

Packers | Jeff Janis struggling with consistency

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 05:45:25 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jeff Janis hasn't made the performance jump the team was hoping for this offseason. He filled in with the first-team offense when WR Jordy Nelson (hip) was out but hasn't sustained the momentum since Nelson returned. Janis struggles sinking in his hips and maneuvering in close quarters, and at times, he looks to be a straight-line speed receiver. "With Jeff, it's the consistency," said Alex Van Pelt, who coaches the wide receivers and quarterbacks. "He's a big guy so some of the routes cater to him. Some of the routes we run where there's a lot of sudden change in movements, they just don't fit the bigger players."

Packers | Jeff Janis more comfortable this year

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 19:47:21 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jeff Janis continues to improve and was ready to step in and play at the end of last season, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. "Now it's a completely different world," Janis said. "It's really starting to slow down for me. I'm starting to see things a little differently, and it's coming a lot easier."
