Raiders | Derek Carr trusts Jared Cook

Sat, 18 Nov 2017 20:58:14 -0800

Oakland Raiders TE Jared Cook's ability to stretch defenses down the field is a luxury from the position, according to QB Derek Carr, and Carr said he is comfortable throwing to Cook no matter who is covering him.

Fantasy Tip: Cook has two 100-yard performances in his last three games, and he has topped 50 yards in three straight. Another week of TE1 production should be on tap against the New England Patriots in Week 11.

Raiders | Derek Carr tallies 300 yards

Mon, 06 Nov 2017 05:33:20 -0800

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr was 21-for-30 for 300 yards, a touchdown and one interception against the Miami Dolphins Sunday, Nov. 5.

Fantasy Tip: He's throwing for a ton of yardage, but his 13-to-7 touchdown to interception ratio in eight games leaves much to be desired. He's a midrange QB1 for now.

Raiders | Derek Carr posts 313 yards, TD

Sun, 29 Oct 2017 14:48:11 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr completed 31 of his 49 pass attempts for 313 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Week 8 against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: Carr did a pretty decent job against a stout Buffalo defense in windy and cool conditions in Buffalo. He should find the weather and matchup more favorable on Sunday night in Miami in Week 9.

Chiefs | Marcus Peters fined

Sat, 28 Oct 2017 06:10:35 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs CB Marcus Peters was fined $9,115 by the National Football League for a hit against Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr in Week 7's game. The hit led to a scrum that led to the one-game suspension of Raiders RB Marshawn Lynch, who made contact with an official.

Raiders | Derek Carr tops 400 yards passing

Thu, 19 Oct 2017 21:11:26 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr completed 29 of 52 passes for 417 yards and three touchdowns against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, Oct. 19. Carr added a 15-yard run and did not turn the ball over.

Fantasy Tip: Completion percentage aside this was easily the biggest game of the year for Carr, who'd passed for fewer than 200 yards in each of his previous three games. We'll see if it jump starts the offense going forward. On the health front Carr now has 10 days to further heal up before the team travels to Buffalo.

Raiders | Oakland struggling on offense

Tue, 17 Oct 2017 11:08:50 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr and the rest of the offense have yet to hit their stride this year. On the season, there have been 42 300-yard passing games, 44 100-yard receiving games and 32 100-yard rushing games by individual players. The Raiders boast zero of those 118 such games.

Fantasy Tip: The struggles of Amari Cooper have been well documented, but it's somewhat of a surprise that Marshawn Lynch and Michael Crabtree have not reached the 100-yard mark in any game. Carr, Lynch, Crabtree and Cooper remain starting options, of course, but don't expect a big breakout in a tough matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday night.

Raiders | Rough outing for Derek Carr

Mon, 16 Oct 2017 04:13:24 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr completed 21 of his 30 pass attempts for 171 yards and one touchdown, but he was also picked off twice in Week 6 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Fantasy Tip: It won't get much better for Carr, at least not yet. Carr has a Week 7 clash against the Kansas City Chiefs and it is a short week because of Thursday Night Football. Add to that Carr is returning from back spasms, and you might want to stay away until Carr gets his legs back.

Raiders | Derek Carr to start Week 6

Sat, 14 Oct 2017 05:41:53 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (back) will start Week 6's game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Fantasy Tip: Carr was removed from the injury report after serving as a full practice participant Friday, Oct. 13. Even though it's uncertain how close he will be to 100 percent, he should be viewed as a low-end QB1 in all fantasy formats due to his career success versus the Chargers.

Oakland Raiders CB Gareon Conley (shin), CB Antonio Hamilton (knee), LB Marquel Lee (ankle) and DB Jamize Olawale (concussion) did not practice Friday, Oct. 13, and all four are listed as out for Week 6 against the Los Angeles Chargers. CB David Amerson (shoulder), LB Cory James (knee) and RB DeAndre Washington (hamstring) were limited participants and are considered questionable. Raiders | Derek Carr has another limited practice

Thu, 12 Oct 2017 16:31:34 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (back) was a limited participant in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Oct. 12.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Carr will be back under center Sunday for the Raiders, but there's still a question as to how close he is to 100 percent health. Even so, the former Fresno State product has enjoyed splendid numbers opposite the Chargers since entering the league. In fact, he's thrown for more yards and touchdowns against them than any other opponent whom he's faced. Thus, as long as he's active, Carr is worth retaining his QB1 position in all lineups.

Raiders | Derek Carr practices on limited basis

Wed, 11 Oct 2017 15:44:01 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (back) was able to take part in practice Wednesday, Oct. 11, on a limited basis.

Fantasy Tip: Head coach Jack Del Rio said earlier in the week that Carr is expected to be ready for Week 6, and that certainly appears to be the case. Originally he was diagnosed with an injury with a 2-6 week timeframe, and it appears he'll be on the short end of that.

Raiders | Derek Carr expected to play

Mon, 09 Oct 2017 15:22:00 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (back) is expected to play against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6, according to head coach Jack Del Rio.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor Carr's status during the week to see if he suffers any setbacks. He will be a risky option since he missed only one week because of the injury but can be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues if he is able to play.

Raiders | Derek Carr a game-time call

Fri, 06 Oct 2017 14:47:50 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (back) was limited in practice Friday, Oct. 6, and is questionable for Week 5. He is a game-time decision.

Fantasy Tip: Consider this far closer to doubtful or out and a case of Jack Del Rio playing games with the injury report. EJ Manuel is expected to start.

Raiders | Derek Carr could return by Week 6

Fri, 06 Oct 2017 11:32:15 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (back) has "improved" and could play as early as Week 6 versus the Los Angeles Chargers.

Fantasy Tip: Carr's initial timeline was two to six weeks, so this is definitely good news for owners of Michael Crabtree, Amari Cooper and Jared Cook. E.J. Manuel will get the start this week versus the Baltimore Ravens, which is a huge downgrade for the entire offense. Even though the Ravens' defense has fallen off dramatically over the past two weeks, Manuel should put them back on the map in DFS and redraft leagues.

Raiders | Derek Carr returns to practice

Thu, 05 Oct 2017 23:41:59 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (back) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 5, after taking part in stretching and throwing passes to receivers. Head coach Jack Del Rio previously announced Carr would miss two to six weeks.

Fantasy Tip: While EJ Manuel is still set to start in Week 5, Carr's return to practice has to be seen as encouraging for his outlook going forward -- both Cam Newton and Tony Romo returned after just one game with the same transverse process fractures. While you'll need a replacement for this weekend, Carr's prospects for Week 6 look brighter.

Raiders | Oakland hoping Derek Carr misses one week

Mon, 02 Oct 2017 16:24:11 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (back) will not be able to play in Week 5 because of his transverse process fracture, but the team is hoping he will only miss one week and return for their Week 6 game. The normal timetable for Carr's injury is two to six weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to check on Carr's practice participation next week to see if he has a chance to play in Week 6. EJ Manuel will be starting in his place but does not have much fantasy value. Owners should be able to find a short-term replacement for Carr on the waiver wire.

Raiders | Derek Carr could miss 2-6 weeks

Mon, 02 Oct 2017 15:16:33 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (back) has a transverse process fracture in his back and likely will miss at least the Week 5 game, according to head coach Jack Del Rio. The typical recovery time for Carr's injury is two to six weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the situation to see when Carr will be able to return. E.J. Manuel likely will take over as the starting quarterback but should be avoided in all leagues. The quarterback change probably will hurt the fantasy value of Michael Crabtree and Amari Cooper.

Raiders | Derek Carr battling back spasms

Sun, 01 Oct 2017 16:34:18 -0700

Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (back) is dealing with back spasms, and head coach Jack Del Rio said Sunday, Oct. 1, that he doesn't believe it is a long-term issue.

Fantasy Tip: That's great news for fantasy owners, as Carr took a knee to the back which forced E.J. Manuel into action. It sounds positive that Carr will be able to play in Week 5 against the Ravens, but we'll have a much better idea next Friday when the official injury report is released.

Sun, 01 Oct 2017 15:17:33 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (back) suffered an apparent back injury in the fourth quarter of the Week 4 game against the Denver Broncos.

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 20:34:59 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr completed 18 of his 30 pass attempts for just 110 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in the Week 3 game against the Washington Redskins.

Fantasy Tip: Carr was sacked four times and he turned in a dismal 50.7 quarterback rating, as the Redskins defense seemed to be in the backfield harassing him all evening. He'll look to bounce back in Week 4 on the road against the Broncos in another difficult matchup.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr completed 23 of his 28 pass attempts for 230 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-20 win over the New York Jets in Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Carr is completing 75.0 percent of his passes and has five touchdowns and no interceptions through two games. He is looking the part of a QB1 heading into a Week 3 meeting with Washington.

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 13:53:33 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr went 22-for-32 for 262 yards and two touchdowns against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Carr continued his strong play from 2016 in Week 1 and has thrown at least two touchdowns in five of his last seven regular season games. Carr should be considered a No. 1 fantasy quarterback next week against the New York Jets.

Raiders | Derek Carr agrees to extension

Thu, 22 Jun 2017 07:22:07 -0700

Updating an earlier report, Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr agreed to a five-year, $125 million extension Thursday, June 22, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: The deal makes him the highest-paid player in NFL history from an annual perspective. Carr has had two really good years in a row. At 26, with a good supporting cast around him, he looks poised to take the next step. However, he's not in the cream of the crop in fantasy yet. When the top signal-callers come off the board, Carr is an excellent fallback.

Raiders | Derek Carr deal near completion

Thu, 22 Jun 2017 05:29:46 -0700

Updating previous reports, Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr has a deal in place with the Raiders, and only language remains. It could be finalized this week. Carr could choose to backload the deal because there is no state tax in Nevada and California's tax rate is 13.3 percent. Doing so would save him millions.

Fantasy Tip: Carr has about as much hype as anyone in fantasy circles, and he was great last season before his leg injury. However, it's premature to put him in the elite QB1 category. He's a nice consolation if you miss out on the first three or four.

Raiders | Derek Carr could receive big extension

Fri, 09 Jun 2017 15:06:06 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr has a chance to receive $25 million per season in a contract extension, in the opinion of NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Fantasy Tip: Carr is looking to sign an extension before the start of training camp, so owners will need to keep an eye on the situation over the next few weeks. Carr was one of the better quarterbacks in 2016 before he suffered his injury and will have a solid group of pass catchers again this season. Carr should be considered a No. 1 quarterback in all leagues.

Raiders | Derek Carr would play sans extension

Tue, 30 May 2017 14:29:56 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr said he will play out the 2016 season even if a contract extension is not agreed upon before the start of the season. Carr added that he doesn't want the extension to be a distraction this year. The quarterback's hope is that an extension will be done by training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Despite not yet finishing as a QB1 in his young career, Carr should be in the QB1 conversation. He throws behind one of the better offensive lines in the game, has Marshawn Lynch to provide a respectable running game and throws to arguably the best receiving duo in the NFL in Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree. View Carr as a low-end QB1 heading into 2017.

Raiders | Derek Carr to have extension by training camp?

Mon, 22 May 2017 11:57:54 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr is confident that his agent and the Raiders will have a contract extension agreed upon before training camp begins.

Fantasy Tip: Carr won't need an extension until next offseason, but why wait? He's officially one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL after just three seasons. His touchdown to interception ratio is superb (81:31) and he has one of the better wide receivers duos to work with in Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree. All in all, Carr is ideal for drafting as a low-end QB1.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr wants to work out a contract extension this offseason, and general manager Reggie McKenzie said he is confident that a deal will be agreed upon. "We're going to do everything to make sure this contract gets done," McKenzie said.

Wed, 03 May 2017 17:06:17 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr will begin contract extension talks with the Raiders in the near future, according to general manager Reggie McKenzie.

Fantasy Tip: Carr probably will agree to an extension at some point this offseason. He is coming off a 2016 season where he threw for 3,937 yards and 28 touchdowns. Carr will have solid options to throw to in the passing game and can be a No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues if he is healthy.

Raiders | GM optimistic about Derek Carr extension

Fri, 21 Apr 2017 12:30:40 -0700

Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie is optimistic about getting an extension for QB Derek Carr done before training camp, according to the San Francisco Chronicle's Vic Tafur.

Fantasy Tip: Carr echoed similar thoughts last week, so this should get done in a timely fashion. The 26-year-old missed the tail end of last season with a broken fibula but has been a full participant at OTAs. At the moment, he slots in as a midrange fantasy QB1 with upside.

Raiders | Derek Carr fully participating in OTAs

Tue, 18 Apr 2017 18:22:55 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr's (leg) surgically-repaired right fibula is healed enough to the point that he's able to be a full participant in the team's offseason training program, which began Monday, April 17. "I've been running, jumping, throwing, cutting, everything," Carr said. "So I'm ready to rock. I'm ready to do absolutely everything. I did everything my teammates did today. I'll do everything my teammates will do tomorrow."

Fantasy Tip: Carr enjoyed an MVP-caliber season in 2017, registering 3,937 passing yards to go with a terrific 28/6 TD/INT ratio in 15 games. Overall, he finished with a shiny 96.7 QB rating, and it looks like he might be in a position to pick up where he left off based on his health going into OTAs. Carr looks like he can be fully trusted again as a QB1 entering the new campaign.

Raiders | Derek Carr extension coming?

Mon, 17 Apr 2017 11:11:14 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr may receive a contract extension this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: There's no question Carr deserves an extension after solidifying himself as the quarterback of the future for the Raiders. Extension or no extension, one can expect about 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns from Carr this season, putting him in low-end QB1 to high-end QB2 territory.

Mon, 27 Mar 2017 17:41:48 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (leg) will be able to fully participate in the offseason workouts, according to general manager Reggie McKenzie.

Fantasy Tip: Carr could still be limited during offseason workouts even if he is 100 percent but should be a full participant during training camp. He finished the 2016 season with 3,937 yards and 28 touchdowns and can be a No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues next season.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (leg) said he is close to fully recovered from the fractured fibula he suffered during the regular season, according to OT Donald Penn.

Fantasy Tip: Carr could be limited during some of the offseason workouts but should be a full participant when training camp starts. He will have several weapons to work with in the passing game and can be a No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Raiders | Derek Carr will have say in game planning

Thu, 16 Feb 2017 10:46:21 -0800

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr will have a voice in the game planning, according to new offensive coordinator Todd Downing, who was promoted from quarterbacks coach after former offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave's contract expired.

"There's been a lot made about his command at the line of scrimmage. There's certainly going to be opportunities for Derek to do that," Downing said. "... Where I see him needing a little bit more command is just being able to share his thoughts of game plans. Being a student of the game, as he already is, but vocalize what he likes and doesn't like. I think my relationship with him is something that's going to give him the opportunity to voice his opinions. I look forward to him really taking charge of expressing his thoughts on the offense."

Fantasy Tip: Carr was in the conversation of NFL MVP before breaking his leg, and with few changes expected in the system, there is little reason to doubt he can have another special season. Carr is a rock-solid No. 1 fantasy quarterback.

Raiders | Derek Carr extension important to Oakland

Tue, 24 Jan 2017 14:16:14 -0800

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr could be in negotiations for a contract extension in the near future, according to general manager Reggie McKenzie. Carr is heading into a contract year in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: Carr is the future of the Raiders on offense, so it would behoove Oakland to sign him to a long-term deal sooner rather than later. As long as he fully recovers from his broken fibula, he'll be a QB1 option for 2017 fantasy drafts.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr will have discussions on a contract extension this offseason, according to general manager Reggie McKenzie. Carr will be in the final year of his contract in 2017, and there is no fifth-year option on him.

Fantasy Tip: Carr's numbers this season are pretty close to his sophomore season in 2015, but the exception is that he cut his interceptions in half. His completion percentage was up a tick to 63.8%. He'll be a midrange QB1 option in fantasy drafts.
