Raiders | Derek Carr bonding with Michael Crabtree

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 17:27:12 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr is building on-field chemistry with WR Michael Crabtree, according to offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave. "He [Crabtree] and Derek [Carr] have definitely established a rapport in the short time they've been together. We love the fact that they're making plays in practice, because we want to play the same way in the game. They're working hard. They work hard together. I'm glad that Michael's part of our team," said Musgrave.

Fantasy Tip: Crabtree is certainly the most accomplished receiver in Oakland, and he should earn the starting job opposite rookie Amari Cooper. Crabtree is being drafted as a WR5, and he'll have upside to offer very late in drafts.

Raiders | Derek Carr to throw deeper?

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 15:17:47 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr may look to throw more downfield this year due to new WRs Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree, a new coaching staff and a more solid offensive line.

Fantasy Tip: Carr has a lot of weapons at his disposal with Cooper, Crabtree and some young, talented tight ends and running backs. Carr still needs to improve, and it could take some time to get used to the new coaching staff and roster. He should still make a solid backup fantasy quarterback.

Raiders | Amari Cooper wants to work with QB

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 14:08:57 -0700

Oakland Raiders rookie WR Amari Cooper said he wants to individually catch passes with QB Derek Carr three more times before the start of training camp, according to Carr.

Fantasy Tip: It's a good sign when a receiver wants to spend more time with his quarterback. Carr and Cooper seem to be developing the beginning of a good rapport. Carr has already lauded Cooper's rout-running and work ethic. We'll see what happens once they hit the field, though. Cooper should be drafted as a low-end WR2 in his rookie season, while Carr should be taken as a fantasy backup.

Raiders | Derek Carr performs well in practice

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 11:13:15 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) participated in practice Tuesday, June 9, and threw every pass that was called. Carr showed good velocity during practice and did not appear to be bothered by his injury.

Fantasy Tip: Carr should be fine for the start of training camp and will have some new wide receivers to work with this season. Carr should not be a starting option in most fantasy leagues but could be a solid No. 2 quarterback on teams.

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 13:31:18 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) received all of the first-team repetitions during minicamp Tuesday, June 9, but still wasn't at full strength.

Fantasy Tip: Carr continues to nurse his injured finger on his throwing hand, but should be at full capacity in the near future. He's still not a starting fantasy quarterback at full health, however.

Mon, 08 Jun 2015 10:56:37 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) has been cleared to participate in the team's upcoming minicamp, according to a source. Carr may not be at full strength when throwing at minicamp but should be fully recovered by the start of training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Carr looks to be recovering nicely from his finger injury and should be ready for camp. He is coming off a very solid rookie season and will now have Amari Cooper to work with in the passing game. Carr could be a solid No. 2 quarterback for owners this season.

Raiders | Derek Carr throws passes

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 16:01:02 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) threw a few passes during organized team activities Tuesday, June 2, as he continues to recover from an injury on the ring finger of his throwing hand. The injury is not considered serious. There is no timetable for when Carr will really start throwing or how long the recovery will take.

Fantasy Tip: Carr at least seems to be improving, as he had not thrown passes in previous weeks. The recovery still seems to be taken some time. Fortunately for Carr and the Raiders, they still have a couple months until training camp and the preseason begin. Even when healthy, Carr is not a starting fantasy quarterback and should be drafted as a QB2.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (hand, arm) was limited during organized team activities Tuesday, May 26, and took snaps but did not throw any passes.

Fantasy Tip: No further information was provided on Carr's injury, so it's unclear whether it's his throwing arm/hand. He still has plenty of time to recover before training camp starts, so stay tuned. Even at full health he's not starting fantasy quarterback material.

Wed, 20 May 2015 19:14:23 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) will not need surgery on his injured finger and may be able to throw again before the end of offseason workouts, according to his agent.

Fantasy Tip: Carr has plenty of time to prepare for training camp and does not need to participate in offseason workouts. Carr has some solid weapons to work with on offense and could be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback for owners next season.

Raiders | Derek Carr injury update

Wed, 20 May 2015 05:40:45 -0700

Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) is experiencing numbness in his right ring finger. He hopes to avoid surgery through rest and rehab, and no one close to the situation appears to be overly concerned, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Fantasy Tip: Carr is a rising fantasy commodity but needs to get this issue resolved before the offseason activities really heat up. Stay tuned, but be aware this could be a symptom of a larger medical problem. He is a high-upside QB2.

Raiders | Derek Carr has finger injury

Tue, 19 May 2015 15:09:45 -0700

Updating a previous report, Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) has a right ring finger injury that could be surgically repaired. A return for training camp is still achievable, however, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Another source has reported that Carr's injury is minor. Surgery is always a risky proposition, but he will have plenty of time to recover. If he is able to return for training camp, he should be fine for the regular season.

Raiders | Derek Carr inactive at OTAs

Tue, 19 May 2015 15:00:20 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (undisclosed) was not a participant in practice during organized team activities Tuesday, May 19. Carr's injury has not been disclosed, but it is minor, according to a source, and he should be back for minicamp.

Fantasy Tip: Carr finished with respectable rookie campaign in 2014, and a new-look offense and new offensive coordinator could provide more success, but Carr doesn't deserve starter consideration in any scoring format.

Raiders | Derek Carr excited for new offense

Tue, 10 Feb 2015 13:19:50 -0800

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr is excited for the team's no-huddle offense under new offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave. "Sometimes, the games were really slow for me [last season]," Carr said. "It was almost like I was waiting for it to speed up." Carr had experience with the no-huddle offense in college at Fresno State University and said he's very comfortable in it.

Fantasy Tip: While the new no-huddle offense could give Carr a boost in fantasy value, he's still no more than a backup fantasy quarterback as he continues to gain experience and waits for a better supporting cast.

Raiders | Derek Carr needs to improve against blitz

Fri, 02 Jan 2015 15:16:06 -0800

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr will focus on improving against the blitz heading into next season. When Carr was blitzed in his rookie season, he completed 46.6% of his passes for 857 yards, six touchdowns and a passer rating of 61.2. Against a standard rush, he completed 63.5% of his passes for 2,413 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: Carr had his share of ups and downs in his rookie season. Expect him to be a little more inconsistent next year, but a new coaching staff could disrupt his progress. Carr shouldn't be anything more than a weak backup QB for fantasy football purposes.

Raiders | Derek Carr spread the ball

Sun, 28 Dec 2014 17:04:25 -0800

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr spread the ball nicely in Week 17 versus the Denver Broncos. However, he completed only 50.0% of his passes and threw for just 158 yards. Nine of Carr's 18 completions were to different players.

Fantasy Tip: Baby steps. Carr has a bright future and could be a more consistent player in 2015 with another year of preparation.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (illness) was not on the team's injury report Friday, Dec. 26, and is good to go for Week 17.

Raiders | Derek Carr practices in full

Thu, 25 Dec 2014 19:55:36 -0800

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (illness) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Carr has been on a nice roll recently, tossing six touchdowns and no interceptions over his last three games. However, he is a risky option at FantasyScore in Week 17 when the Raiders face a Denver team that will be trying to secure a bye in the postseason.

Wed, 24 Dec 2014 12:06:30 -0800

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (illness) returned to practice Wednesday, Dec. 24, and will play against the Denver Broncos this week.

Fantasy Tip: While the Broncos have been suspect against the pass this year, it's still in the best interest of your FantasyScore squad to stay away from Carr this week, especially considering the equal pricing of $5,555.

Fantasy Tip: Carr has thrown four touchdowns and zero interceptions in his last two games and has only thrown two interceptions in his last five games. Carr only costs $3,900 on FantasyScore, but should be avoided since he will be facing a very good Buffalo Bills defense.

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 10:56:01 -0800

Oakland Raiders interim head coach Tony Sparano got the endorsement of QB Derek Carr as the team's head coach. "Yeah, we love him," Carr said. "He's our leader. Absolutely. We love him. Obviously, those decisions are going to happen, and we have no control in that. Those decisions will be made, and whoever is here is who we'll play for. "But right now, coach Sparano is my leader. I love him 100 percent. He genuinely cares about me. He's pulled me into his office just to ask how I'm doing. … Those kind of things from a head coach mean so much."

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (thumb) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Carr is likely to be ready to go for Week 16, but FantasyScore owners will likely want to avoid a matchup against Buffalo Bills defense which has shut down Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers the past two weeks.

Raiders | Derek Carr won't be benched

Tue, 02 Dec 2014 11:14:32 -0800

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr will remain the team's starting quarterback, according to head coach Tony Sparano. Carr was pulled from the Week 13 contest versus the St. Louis Rams early in the fourth quarter.

Fantasy Tip: Carr still isn't worth a starting spot on your roster as he faces one of the best fantasy defenses against quarterbacks in the San Francisco 49ers.

Raiders | Derek Carr probable against Chiefs

Wed, 19 Nov 2014 14:54:02 -0800

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (quadriceps) practiced in full Wednesday, Nov. 19, and is probable for Week 12 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: The Chiefs have allowed a league-low 2,180 passing yards this season, making Carr ($3,800) a very weak option at FantasyScore on a short week against a divisional opponent. Look elsewhere for your signal caller.

Raiders | Derek Carr limited again

Tue, 18 Nov 2014 14:44:20 -0800

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (quadriceps) was limited in practice for the second straight day Tuesday, Nov. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Carr injured his quad early in Week 11 against the San Diego Chargers and played the rest of the game, so it shouldn't be an issue heading into Week 12 Thursday night. A short week against a tough divisional opponent in the Kansas City Chiefs isn't the best time to use Carr ($3,800) at FantasyScore, though, despite his appealing price.

Raiders | Derek Carr limited by quad

Mon, 17 Nov 2014 20:55:38 -0800

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (quadriceps) was a limited participant in practice Monday, Nov. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Carr should be fine to take the field Thursday, Nov. 20, but a matchup against a tough Kansas City defense makes him a poor option at FantasyScore in Week 12.

Raiders | Raiders committed to Derek Carr

Fri, 10 Oct 2014 09:10:33 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr has received a vote of confidence from new head coach Tony Sparano. "I visited with him and we got a chance to talk about that," Sparano said. "I said to him, 'This is your football team; you're the quarterback. We don't have time for you to be a rookie right now, this team needs you to step up and be that leader. Don't sit around and wait to do that.'" Carr has showed good poise through four weeks of ups and downs in his rookie season.

Fantasy Tip: Carr won't be demoted from the starting role anytime soon, it sounds like. He'll likely continue to experience plenty of peaks and valleys, though, as he learns the ropes of the NFL. Unless he has a great matchup, Carr isn't a wise option for your daily lineups.

Fantasy Tip: Carr threw for just 174 yards and an interception in the Week 3 loss to the New England Patriots after going 21-for-34. The lack of sacks is a plus, but you shouldn't be looking to rely on the Raiders rookie in any weekly fantasy games.

Raiders | Derek Carr could start

Fri, 29 Aug 2014 06:27:01 -0700

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr dazzled in the final preseason game Thursday, Aug. 28, and could have played well enough to start the season opener over QB Matt Schaub. Carr was 11-for-13 for 143 yards against the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Tip: Schaub (elbow) is still in line to start. However, this performance gave beat writer Bill Williamson the inclination that it was enough to give Carr serious consideration to start. Neither QB is worth drafting at this point, but they could become matchup plays.
