Athletics | Ike Davis remains out Wednesday

Wed, 13 May 2015 09:24:53 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Ike Davis (quadriceps) remains out of the starting lineup Wednesday, May 13. OF Mark Canha is starting at first base and hitting sixth in batting order against Boston Red Sox SP Wade Miley.

Fantasy Tip: Canha ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) has seen his playing time dip with the returns of Josh Reddick and Coco Crisp, and he's only hitting .185 (5-for-27) in May, but he does have three home runs and five RBI. However, he's a rather weak play at FantasyScore this afternoon while hitting only .136 (3-for-22) with no home runs against lefties in 2015.

Athletics | Manager talks Mark Canha's role

Wed, 06 May 2015 15:13:34 -0700

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics OF Mark Canha is expected to start at first base against left-handed pitchers, according to manager Bob Melvin. Melvin noted he likes having Canha's bat and positional versatility available off the bench.

Fantasy Tip: This is a serious blow to Canha's ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) seasonal value, but he remains a nice FantasyScore option when the team faces a southpaw. At this point, owners outside of cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues should consider replacements for him.

Athletics | Mark Canha sitting vs. Twins

Wed, 06 May 2015 14:31:22 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Mark Canha is not in the starting lineup against the Minnesota Twins Wednesday, May 6.

Fantasy Tip: Canha ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is in risk of losing playing time now that Coco Crisp is healthy. Canha, a 26-year-old rookie, is just 15-for-55 over his past 16 games, and while there is a little pop (three home runs during span), Canha could quickly land in a platoon situation. His value could be on a quick decline in seasonal formats.

Athletics | Billy Butler not in lineup

Sun, 03 May 2015 11:10:07 -0700

Oakland Athletics DH Billy Butler is not in the starting lineup Sunday, May 3. OF Mark Canha will serve as the designated hitter, while OF Billy Burns will be starting at center field.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is off to a solid start and likely is receiving a day off. Billy Burns had a solid debut in the last game but is not a great option at this point.

Athletics | Mark Canha starting again

Fri, 01 May 2015 13:51:55 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Mark Canha is starting in left field for the second straight day and hitting eighth in the batting order against Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis Friday, May 1.

Fantasy Tip: Canha ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) sat out a few games earlier this week and over the weekend due to an illness. After a hot start, he had cooled over the past week, but he bounced back with a homer and three hits yesterday. A bottom-of-the-order placement doesn't endear him to FantasyScore users, and he'll continue to be a sleeper pick for your daily lineups.

Athletics | Mark Canha hits second homer

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 17:40:39 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Mark Canha went 3-for-4 Thursday, April 30, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Canha hit his second home run of the season, scored a run and drove in three.

Fantasy Tip: Canha's ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) 24.6% strikeout rate on the season continues to be his biggest, and potentially only red flag. FantasyScore owners would also like to see Canha hit a little higher in the batting order. Against right-handed pitchers, Canha remains a high-upside value play.

Athletics | Mark Canha has been ill

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 11:15:29 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Mark Canha (illness) wasn't available for a couple of days because of an illness, according to manager Bob Melvin.

Fantasy Tip: Canha ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is back in the lineup today, but he is just 4-for-23 (.174) with 10 strikeouts since April 19, and he hasn't started since last Friday. He's a weak play at FantasyScore today while facing Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim starter Garrett Richards.

Athletics | Mark Canha back in lineup

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 10:20:28 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Mark Canha is starting in left field and hitting seventh in the batting order against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards Thursday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: Canha ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) hasn't started a game since last Friday, and he's gone into a bit of a slump after starting the year hot. Against Richards, Canha isn't a strong option for daily lineups at FantasyScore.

Athletics | Craig Gentry starting again

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 13:54:47 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Craig Gentry is starting again in left field and hitting ninth in the batting order against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Matt Shoemaker Wednesday, April 29. OF Mark Canha is sitting on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Gentry ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is seeing some love now in left field with Mark Canha ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) slumping after a hot start. Canha has just four hits in 23 at-bats and 10 K's since April 19. He shouldn't be kept around in any leagues besides deep AL-only formats. Gentry (.067, 0-1) doesn't offer much FantasyScore value while hitting ninth, and he's a weak play Wednesday evening.

Athletics | Craig Gentry starting in LF

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 16:15:50 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Craig Gentry is starting in left field and hitting ninth in the batting order against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver Tuesday, April 28. OF Mark Canha is sitting the bench again.

Fantasy Tip: Canha ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has fallen on hard times lately after a strong start to the season. He hasn't started since Saturday and is hitting just .174 (4-for-23) with 10 strikeouts since April 19. You should look to bench Canha, too, in AL leagues. Gentry ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) shouldn't excite FantasyScore owners while hitting at the bottom of the lineup.
