Athletics | Coco Crisp expected to start in LF

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 16:28:47 -0800

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp is expected to start in left field for the A's in 2016, if he's healthy. However, the 36-year-old played in just 44 games last year because of neck issues. 1B Mark Canha will see time at first base, but he, along with OFs Sam Fuld, Jake Smolinski and Andrew Lambo can fill in in the outfield.

Fantasy Tip: Canha gives fantasy owners the most to like of this group after drilling 16 home runs and driving in 70 RBI in 2015. How many games can you realistically expect Crisp to play given his age and injury concerns? There's a good chance he becomes a bench player even if he's healthy.

Athletics | Mark Canha could become starting 1B

Tue, 13 Oct 2015 17:21:04 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Mark Canha is expected to be the favorite for the starting first base job next season.

Fantasy Tip: Canha split his time at first base and in the outfield this season but it looks like may see the majority of his playing time at first base. He hit .254 with 16 home runs and 70 RBI this season and could be a solid option in deeper leagues.

Athletics | Josh Reddick out against LHP

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 16:06:25 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick is out of the lineup Saturday, Oct. 3, with 1B Mark Canha hitting second.

Fantasy Tip: Canha ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) has oddly tanked against lefties with a .203-2-15 split and isn't a real good FantasyScore start against Roenis Elias.

Athletics | Mark Canha sitting out

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 16:43:13 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Mark Canha is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 29. 1B Max Muncy is starting at first base and is batting eighth against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Nick Tropeano.

Fantasy Tip: Muncy ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) should be an afterthought for FantasyScore users tonight, especially while hitting at the bottom of the order. He has an average of .206 (20-for-97) with only two home runs and eight RBI against righties this year.

Athletics | Jake Smolinski playing left field

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 11:10:33 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Jake Smolinski will bat seventh and start in left field against Texas Rangers SP Chi Chi Gonzalez Sunday, Sept. 13. OF/1B Mark Canha, who started in left field Saturday, Sept. 12, will bat second and play first base Sunday, with 1B Max Muncy getting the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Smolinski ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is only 2-for-21 at the plate this month and using him in FantasyScore would not be advised this afternoon. On the other hand, Canha ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is batting .320 with three home runs and eight RBIs over the past week and merits consideration as a value play.

Sun, 06 Sep 2015 12:17:02 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B/OF Mark Canha will bat second and play left field against Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma Sunday, Sept. 6. OF Jake Smolinski, who played left field Saturday, Sept. 5, will play right field and bat seventh Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Canha ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is just 5-for-25 at the plate over the past week. Better options can be found in FantasyScore for a lower price.

Athletics | No Danny Valencia Tuesday

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 15:05:31 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 1. 3B Brett Lawrie is starting at third base and hitting second against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Matt Shoemaker. 2B Eric Sogard draws the start at the keystone and is batting leadoff, while 1B Mark Canha moves into the cleanup spot.

Fantasy Tip: Sogard's ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) daily value is at its highest hitting leadoff, but his light-hitting ways still make him a weaker second base pick on FantasyScore. Lawrie ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) and Canha ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) are much more attractive as value picks against a pitcher that has allowed 1.5 home runs per nine innings this year.

Athletics | Mark Canha playing left field

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 11:44:34 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B/OF Mark Canha is batting and playing left field against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Allen Webster Sunday, Aug. 30. OF Coco Crisp is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Even though Canha ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) has taken over as the A's primary first baseman, he finds himself in left field because Stephen Vogt ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is getting a break from catching and playing first base instead. Canha has had a solid month, hitting .318 with two homers and 16 RBIs in 85 at-bats.

Oakland Athletics OF Mark Canha went 2-for-4 with a triple, four RBI and a run scored in an 8-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday, Aug. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Canha ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is hitting .365 in August with 13 RBI. He is a great source of cap relief right now.

Sat, 22 Aug 2015 14:34:57 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Billy Butler is out of the lineup Saturday, Aug. 22, with 1B Mark Canha hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Canha ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has a .435-1-4 line the last seven days and is a good low-end start against Erasmo Ramirez on FantasyScore.
