Athletics | Mark Canha to undergo surgery

Tue, 17 May 2016 18:14:04 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Mark Canha (leg) will undergo surgery Thursday, May 24, to remove excess bone growth on his left femur. Canha is expected to be facing a six-month recovery.

Fantasy Tip: Canha likely will miss the rest of the season, so owners should drop him in all leagues. Billy Butler and Max Muncy probably will see more playing time with Canha out but do not have much value outside AL-only leagues.

Athletics | Mark Canha looking at lengthy absence

Fri, 13 May 2016 15:18:29 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Mark Canha (back, hip) underwent an MRI exam Thursday, May 12, that confirmed his lower back strain and a possible impingement in his left hip. Canha will likely try a cortisone injection for his hip, but if it does not work, he could face season-ending surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Canha has a disastrous .122/.140/.341 slash line through 44 plate appearances this season, so given the injury news, he should be replaced in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Athletics | Mark Canha to DL

Tue, 10 May 2016 11:10:04 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Mark Canha (back) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a back strain Tuesday, May 10.

Fantasy Tip: Canha was slashing just .122/.140/.341 with three home runs and six RBI in 41 at-bats in a bench role for the A's. His limited playing time made him a weak option in deep AL-only leagues. You can probably cut bait now.

Athletics | Khris Davis, Coco Crisp sitting out

Sun, 08 May 2016 09:57:15 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Khris Davis and OF Coco Crisp are not in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Chris Tillman Sunday, May 8. 2B Jed Lowrie will serve as the designated hitter. OF Mark Canha will start in left field and is batting second, while 2B Chris Coghlan will start at second base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Both Canha and Coghlan are hitting under .150 over the first month of the season and are not strong starting candidates for owners.

Athletics | Jed Lowrie out of lineup Sunday

Sun, 08 May 2016 08:19:11 -0700

Oakland Athletics 2B Jed Lowrie is not in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Chris Tillman Sunday, May 8. INF Chris Coghlan will bat eighth and play the keystone position. In addition, OF Mark Canha is batting second and playing left field, with OFs Coco Crisp and Khris Davis receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Lowrie's absence from Sunday's lineup is not surprising, given that he manned second base during both games of Saturday's doubleheader. Coghlan has collected just three hits in his last 36 at-bats and should be avoided in all fantasy formats.

Athletics | Jed Lowrie takes a seat

Mon, 02 May 2016 14:27:07 -0700

Oakland Athletics 2B Jed Lowrie is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 2. 2B/OF Chris Coghlan shifts to second base and is batting sixth against Seattle Mariners SP Nathan Karns. OF Mark Canha is playing third base and hitting seventh. Also, OF Coco Crisp moves up to the two-hole.

Fantasy Tip: Coghlan has four home runs and 10 RBI in just 75 at-bats but is hitting .160 on the year. He's a sleeper pick in daily formats if you're looking to save a little money. Canha and Crisp could also project as fine value plays in DFS action tonight against Karns. Canha is hitting .264 with 14 of his 19 career home runs against right-handers.

Athletics | Coco Crisp out of the lineup

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 09:12:10 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP Drew Hutchison Sunday, April 24. OF Mark Canha will serve as the designated hitter and is batting second in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Canha has recorded two home runs and four RBI in his last three games but is still hitting only .182 this season. Owners in daily fantasy leagues could consider using Canha in their lineups, but he is not a great option in most leagues.

Athletics | Josh Reddick sitting out

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 08:14:42 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ Saturday, April 23. OF Mark Canha will start in right field and is batting second in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Canha only has three hits so far this season but two of them have been home runs. Canha probably will not be the best starting candidate for owners and could be avoided if there are better players available.

Athletics | Danny Valencia, Yonder Alonso out

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 11:17:17 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia (hamstring) and 1B Yonder Alonso are not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 21. OF Chris Coghlan is at third base and hitting sixth, while OF Mark Canha is at first base and batting second against New York Yankees SP Luis Severino. Also, 2B Jed Lowrie moves to the cleanup spot.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia could miss a few more game, so make sure you have a suitable replacement in place. Canha has a nice lineup position and actually hits better against righties than lefties, so he's worth a cheap flyer in DFS as a deep sleeper. Coghlan is hitting .184 but has a three-game hitting streak. He's a low-end outfield option today.

Athletics | Three A's regulars sitting

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 15:19:33 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp, C Stephen Vogt and 1B Yonder Alonso are all out of the lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim left-handed SP Hector Santiago Tuesday, April 12. OF Billy Burns returns to center and is leading off, C Josh Phegley is catching and hitting second and OF Mark Canha is at first base and batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Burns' value has taken a slight hit with Crisp healthy and playing often, but he remains relevant in all leagues for his speed. Get him back into your lineups. Phegley and Canha excel against lefties and are worth value plays in daily contests, with Phegley much more attractive.
