Athletics | Coco Crisp out of the lineup

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 09:12:10 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP Drew Hutchison Sunday, April 24. OF Mark Canha will serve as the designated hitter and is batting second in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Canha has recorded two home runs and four RBI in his last three games but is still hitting only .182 this season. Owners in daily fantasy leagues could consider using Canha in their lineups, but he is not a great option in most leagues.

Athletics | Josh Reddick sitting out

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 08:14:42 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ Saturday, April 23. OF Mark Canha will start in right field and is batting second in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Canha only has three hits so far this season but two of them have been home runs. Canha probably will not be the best starting candidate for owners and could be avoided if there are better players available.

Athletics | Danny Valencia, Yonder Alonso out

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 11:17:17 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia (hamstring) and 1B Yonder Alonso are not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 21. OF Chris Coghlan is at third base and hitting sixth, while OF Mark Canha is at first base and batting second against New York Yankees SP Luis Severino. Also, 2B Jed Lowrie moves to the cleanup spot.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia could miss a few more game, so make sure you have a suitable replacement in place. Canha has a nice lineup position and actually hits better against righties than lefties, so he's worth a cheap flyer in DFS as a deep sleeper. Coghlan is hitting .184 but has a three-game hitting streak. He's a low-end outfield option today.

Athletics | Three A's regulars sitting

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 15:19:33 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp, C Stephen Vogt and 1B Yonder Alonso are all out of the lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim left-handed SP Hector Santiago Tuesday, April 12. OF Billy Burns returns to center and is leading off, C Josh Phegley is catching and hitting second and OF Mark Canha is at first base and batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Burns' value has taken a slight hit with Crisp healthy and playing often, but he remains relevant in all leagues for his speed. Get him back into your lineups. Phegley and Canha excel against lefties and are worth value plays in daily contests, with Phegley much more attractive.

Athletics | Josh Reddick, Stephen Vogt sitting

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 14:18:25 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick and C Stephen Vogt are not in the lineup against Chicago White Sox left-handed SP Carlos Rodon Wednesday, April 6. OF Mark Canha is starting in right field and hitting seventh, while C Josh Phegley is catching and batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Canha and Phegley are specialists against left-handed pitching, but both are just mildly intriguing in daily games tonight against the up-and-coming Rodon.

Athletics | Yonder Alonso sitting vs. lefty

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 15:00:14 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Yonder Alonso is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox left-handed SP Chris Sale on opening day Monday, April 4. Instead, OF Mark Canha receives the starting nod at first base, and he's hitting seventh in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Alonso is expected to play more often than not, but he draws a tough matchup tonight in Sale. Canha has some pop but will play sparingly for Oakland this year, limiting him mainly to AL-only leagues as bench depth. Avoid Canha tonight in daily formats, too.

Athletics | Mark Canha still has work to do

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 17:53:33 -0800

Oakland Athletics OF Mark Canha (back) took part in workouts Tuesday, March 8, but he still has "to run the bases, and there's some other things he has to do" before he's cleared for game action, according to manager Bob Melvin. Canha is dealing with back stiffness and is "considered several days away" from making his Cactus League debut.

Fantasy Tip: As a rookie, Canha was one of the lone bright spots for a last-place A's club, and while he has potential to build on his success from last season, he may be squeezed for playing time after the recent acquisition of Khris Davis. Regardless, Canha has to overcome his current back ailment before he can begin making an impact again.

Athletics | Mark Canha scratched Tuesday

Tue, 01 Mar 2016 10:52:18 -0800

Oakland Athletics OF Mark Canha (back) was scratched from an intrasquad game Tuesday, March 1, with some back pain.

Fantasy Tip: Canha has 20-homer potential over a full season with consistent at-bats. The problem is, the addition of Khris Davis and Chris Coghlan in trades this offseason have buried Canha on the depth chart. He's merely a late-round flier in deep AL-only leagues.

Athletics | Coco Crisp, Mark Canha to bounce around

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 16:03:09 -0800

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp is expected to serve as the designated hitter frequently and see time in the outfield. OF Mark Canha will bounce between the outfield and first base again.

Fantasy Tip: The arrival of Khris Davis in left field is bad news for both Crisp and Canha. The 36-year-old Crisp isn't aging well, and you can no longer count on his best skill: stolen bases. He's nothing more than depth in deep AL leagues. Canha's playing time will also take a hit, and he boasts average skills, at best. He's also fodder for depth in AL-only formats.

Athletics | Coco Crisp expected to start in LF

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 16:28:47 -0800

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp is expected to start in left field for the A's in 2016, if he's healthy. However, the 36-year-old played in just 44 games last year because of neck issues. 1B Mark Canha will see time at first base, but he, along with OFs Sam Fuld, Jake Smolinski and Andrew Lambo can fill in in the outfield.

Fantasy Tip: Canha gives fantasy owners the most to like of this group after drilling 16 home runs and driving in 70 RBI in 2015. How many games can you realistically expect Crisp to play given his age and injury concerns? There's a good chance he becomes a bench player even if he's healthy.
