Cubs | Chicago to play matchups at 2B

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 11:09:23 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Javier Baez is starting at second base Friday, Sept. 4, but manager Joe Maddon said 2B Tommy La Stella would see most of the starts against right-handed pitchers down the stretch. SS Starlin Castro could also be mixed in here and there, too. "It's just picking the best matchup for that pitcher that game," Maddon said.

Fantasy Tip: All three of these second basemen will be tough to predict in the season's final month, and a shared playing time situation severely limits all of their fantasy potential in September.

Cubs | Tommy La Stella draws the start

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 09:12:03 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Tommy La Stella is starting at second base and hitting ninth against Cincinnati Reds SP Raisel Iglesias Wednesday, Sept. 2.

Fantasy Tip: La Stella ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) rejoins the club as rosters expanded yesterday, but he's one to avoid against a young pitcher putting it all together right now. La Stella had just four hits in 25 at-bats to begin the season.

Cubs | Addison Russell resting Monday

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 09:40:05 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Addison Russell is not in the starting lineup Monday, Aug. 24. SS Starlin Castro is starting at shortstop and hitting seventh and 2B Tommy La Stella is at second base and is hitting sixth against Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) is the more acceptable sleeper pick on FantasyScore today, but we wouldn't recommend either for this afternoon's contest against last year's American League Cy Young winner.

Cubs | Tommy La Stella working way back

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 20:45:36 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Tommy La Stella (rib cage) was at Wrigley Field Monday, July 27, working out before he heads out on a minor-league rehab assignment. He has been sidelined since April 9 due to right rib cage inflammation.

Fantasy Tip: La Stella is making his way back slowly, already having had one setback in May in a minor-league rehab game. Avoid him until he can officially return and prove his health in multiple games without any setbacks.

Cubs | Tommy La Stella resumes activities

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 18:09:28 -0700

Chicago Cubs INF Tommy La Stella (rib cage) is starting to resume baseball activities, according to general manager Jed Hoyer.

Fantasy Tip: La Stella ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) opened the season in a platoon for the Cubs at the keystone position with the since-demoted Arismendy Alcantara. Addison Russell ($3,400, 6.8% of cap), who has been the regular second baseman for most of the season, has struggled at the plate but demonstrated the ability to play defense at the major league level. La Stella won't be ready to return for a few weeks and isn't worthy of consideration outside of NL-only leagues.

Cubs | Tommy La Stella to DL

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 14:30:03 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Tommy La Stella (rib cage) was placed on the disabled list with right rib cage inflammation Tuesday, April 14.

Fantasy Tip: Kris Bryant was not recalled to take La Stella's roster spot, but the big-time prospect could still be up in Chicago very soon. With Mike Olt (wrist) also dinged up, Arismendy Alcantara ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) should see consistent playing time in the Chicago infield in the short term. Consider him a sleeper Tuesday night against Cincinnati Reds starter Anthony DeSclafani.

Cubs | Tommy La Stella headed for DL?

Mon, 13 Apr 2015 16:41:09 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Tommy La Stella (side), who hasn't played since last Wednesday because of a sore right side, could be headed for the disabled list. That could prompt the Cubs to promote 3B Kris Bryant from Triple-A Iowa. "They just started, though. We're trying to get him into a good rhythm down there. But we'll see. Obviously his development is a hugely important factor and the needs of the big league team as well," president Theo Epstein said. Bryant has hit four home runs in the last two games at Iowa.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant currently is unavailable at FantasyScore, because he's still in the minors. He should already be owned in all fantasy baseball leagues. Once Bryant is in the bigs, which could be at the end of this week, he'll likely be a popular FantasyScore play for his monstrous power upside.

Cubs | Platoon at keystone likely for Cubs

Mon, 30 Mar 2015 13:32:31 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2Bs Tommy La Stella and Arismendy Alcantara are expected to share playing time at second base.

Fantasy Tip: La Stella ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has also played well at third base this spring and could receive looks there spelling Mike Olt ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) early this season. Alcantara ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is a versatile defender who boasts a power-speed combo, and he is the only one worth a look in seasonal mixed leagues -- albeit just deep ones. In FantasyScore contests, the Cubs project to have a high-scoring offense, and their home park is favorable, so there could be nice value whenever La Stella, Olt and Alcantara are in the lineup.

Cubs | Tommy La Stella working at third base

Wed, 25 Feb 2015 13:24:03 -0800

Chicago Cubs 2B Tommy La Stella took repetitions at third base, and manager Joe Maddon said La Stella is "all in" at the hot corner despite spending his entire career playing second base.

Fantasy Tip: La Stella is unlikely to fill anything more than a utility role with the Cubs. However, there is an opportunity for him to receive enough at-bats to warrant attention in NL-only leagues, especially if a few of the Cubs prospects have a few hiccups in their development.
