Rams | Los Angeles prepping for no Tre Mason

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 20:14:12 -0700

Los Angeles Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said the team is preparing as if RB Tre Mason won't be there. Mason has been absent from OTAs following an arrest in March.

Fantasy Tip: Todd Gurley is the workhorse in the Los Angeles backfield, but whoever emerges as his primary backup could be worth stashing in case Gurley suffers an injury.

Rams | Arrest warrant for Tre Mason

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 20:42:08 -0700

Los Angeles Rams RB Tre Mason failed to appear in court in Broward County, Fla., Monday, April 11, and an arrest warrant has been issued. He was scheduled to be arraigned for a March 5 arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana, reckless driving, failure to register a motor vehicle and resisting arrest. The night of his arrest he was subdued with a stun gun.

Fantasy Tip: Mason posted 207 yards and a touchdown last season. It's uncertain what role, if any, he will have in 2016, especially if the team decides to part with him after this off-field issue.

Rams | Tre Mason expected to start

Fri, 01 Jan 2016 21:11:39 -0800

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason is expected to start against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 17 with RB Todd Gurley (foot) listed as doubtful.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) ran for 46 yards on 15 carries against the 49ers earlier this year, and the Rams amassed 197 rushing yards as a team in the same game. For the minimum salary at FantaysScore, Mason could be worth taking a chance on.

Sun, 22 Nov 2015 15:58:56 -0800

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason was inactive for Week 11 against the Baltimore Ravens due to a violation of team rules, head coach Jeff Fisher said Sunday, Nov. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Mason has tumbled down the depth chart with the emergence of Todd Gurley, and the solid play of Benny Cunningham. It doesn't appear Mason will be featured any time soon.

Rams | Tre Mason inactive

Sun, 22 Nov 2015 08:44:05 -0800

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason is inactive for Week 11's game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is a healthy scratch and has become an afterthought in the St. Louis running game due to the emergence of Todd Gurley ($8,200, 16.4% of cap). Benny Cunningham ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Chase Reynolds will serve as Gurley's backups but neither player is a viable fantasy option.

Rams | Tre Mason active for Week 9

Sun, 08 Nov 2015 09:13:10 -0800

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (ankle) is officially active for the Week 9 game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) likely will only see a handful of touches against the Vikings because of the emergence of Todd Gurley and should not be a fantasy option in any league.

Rams | Tre Mason iffy vs. Vikes

Fri, 06 Nov 2015 13:50:35 -0800

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (ankle) practiced in full Friday, Nov. 6, but is questionable to face the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Mason ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) plays, he probably won't touch the ball enough to return positive value on investment. Todd Gurley ($8,600, 17.2% of cap) will remain a very popular daily selection as he looks to continue rolling.

Rams | Tre Mason limited Thursday

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 14:02:54 -0800

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (ankle) was limited in practice again Thursday, Nov. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) hasn't seen a lot of work since Todd Gurley took the world by storm. He did see some extra carries last week in a blowout win, but his value is currently minimal and he shouldn't be seriously considered for FantasyScore lineups.

Rams | Tre Mason a limited participant

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 15:54:06 -0800

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Fantasy Tip: With Todd Gurley doing his thing and impressing since coming back from a serious knee injury in his rookie season, Mason ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has become an afterthought in this backfield. Forget about using him on FantasyScore unless Gurley is hurt.

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 09:00:41 -0800

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (ankle) is active for the Week 8 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) likely will receive only a handful of touches during the game and should be avoided by owners.

Rams | Tre Mason should be available

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 07:18:21 -0800

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (ankle) should be able to play in the Week 8 game against the San Francisco 49ers even though he is listed as questionable.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) will serve as the primary backup at running back and should see a handful of snaps, but owners should not consider him a starting option at this point.

Rams | Tre Mason questionable against Niners

Fri, 30 Oct 2015 14:12:04 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (ankle) practiced in full Friday, Oct. 30, but is listed as questionable for Week 8 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has taken a back seat to the impressive rookie Todd Gurley in this backfield, and Mason has had only four carries in his last two games for a total of seven yards. Ignore Mason in all fantasy formats.

Rams | Tre Mason doesn't practice

Thu, 29 Oct 2015 19:22:43 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (ankle) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 29.

Fantasy Tip: With Todd Gurley ($8,300, 16.6% of cap) entrenched as the workhorse in the backfield, Mason ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is not worth considering at FantasyScore right now.

Rams | Tre Mason does not practice

Wed, 28 Oct 2015 17:14:24 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has not seen much playing time since Todd Gurley has returned from his knee injury and likely will not see more work in the near future. Owners should avoid Mason even if he is active for the game.

Rams | Tre Mason will sit out Week 7

Sun, 25 Oct 2015 09:05:59 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (ankle) has been declared inactive for the Week 7 game against the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Tip: Todd Gurley ($7,500, 15.0% of cap) will receive most of the work at running back this week and has a chance to post big numbers since the Browns have allowed the most rushing yards this season. Owners in all leagues should have Gurley in their lineups.

Sun, 25 Oct 2015 09:01:54 -0700

Rams | Tre Mason listed as questionable

Fri, 23 Oct 2015 14:19:23 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (ankle) did not participate in practice Friday, Oct. 23, and is listed as questionable for the Week 7 game against the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) probably will not play after missing all three days of practice this week. Todd Gurley ($7,500, 15.0% of cap) should see a majority of the carries during the game and has a favorable matchup against the Browns.

Rams | Tavon Austin, Tre Mason out again

Thu, 22 Oct 2015 14:33:51 -0700

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin (thigh) and RB Tre Mason (ankle) both missed practice for the second straight day Thursday, Oct. 22. However, the Rams didn't actually practice Thursday, so their designations are an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: It's discouraging that Austin ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) hasn't practiced yet this week. Keep an eye on his status tomorrow. If he plays Sunday, he's not a bad midrange receiver on FantasyScore. Mason ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is truly a deep sleeper and probably won't see enough touches behind Todd Gurley to be relevant.

Rams | Tre Mason, Tavon Austin miss practice

Wed, 21 Oct 2015 15:54:50 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (ankle) and WR Tavon Austin (thigh) both did not take part in practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Fantasy Tip: It's unknown exactly how serious Austin's ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) injury is, so check back for more updates. The Cleveland Browns are decent matchup against receivers and both of their top two cornerbacks are ailing, so Austin is a fine daily choice if he's healthy enough. Mason ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has just four carries in the last two games and should be a very low-end running option.

Rams | St. Louis not running ball well

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 17:11:10 -0700

St. Louis Rams RBs Todd Gurley, Tre Mason and Benny Cunningham have attributed to the Rams' league-worst 111 rushing yards in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Gurley missed the first two games of the season, and only ran for nine yards in his NFL debut in Week 3. He needs some time to get going. It may still be too soon to start Gurley ($4,400, 8.8% of cap), so look for other options at running back on FantasyScore.

Rams | Tre Mason goes nowhere fast

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 16:40:02 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason carried nine times for just 16 yards in the Week 3 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he added one catch for 15 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore until he can get untracked. He was inactive in Week 1, sluggish in Week 2 and nearly invisible in this one.

Rams | Tre Mason will play vs. Washington

Sun, 20 Sep 2015 08:32:39 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (thigh) is active for the Week 2 game against the Washington Redskins.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) will be making his 2015 debut and could receive a majority of the snaps during the game. He could also lose some snaps to Benny Cunningham ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) depending on his health. Mason is a risky option for fantasy owners but does have a solid matchup.

Rams | Tre Mason expected to play

Sun, 20 Sep 2015 07:02:23 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (thigh) is expected to play in the Week 2 game against the Washington Redskins even though he was listed as questionable for the game.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) missed the first game of the season but should see a solid amount of work in Week 2. It is not known if Mason will share work with Benny Cunningham or if he will see a majority of the carries. Mason could be a cheaper option for owners to consider on FantasyScore.

Rams | Tre Mason not a lock for success

Sat, 19 Sep 2015 19:43:51 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason faces the Washington Redskins in Week 2, and he averaged just 3.3 yards per carry against the Redskins last year.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) also faces the possibility of a crowded backfield if Todd Gurley ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) suits up, so it might be best to look elsewhere at FantasyScore for a source of cap relief.

Rams | Tre Mason questionable

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 12:52:51 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (thigh) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 18, and is listed as questionable for Week 2 against the Washington Redskins.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) was able to fully practice this week, so he should have a good chance to play in Week 2. Owners will need to check the inactive list before deciding on their lineups. Mason may share snaps with Benny Cunningham if he is active and could be a risky option on FantasyScore.

Rams | Tre Mason full practice again

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 12:16:39 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (thigh) put in a full practice for the second straight day Thursday, Sept. 17. The Rams did not practice Thursday so this is an estimation of their participation.

Fantasy Tip: All signs are pointing toward Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) making his season debut against the Washington Redskins. He could be limited and share touches with Bennie Cunningham, but regardless, Mason could be a successful sleeper pick on FantasyScore if he indeed suits up.

Rams | Tre Mason expects to play in Week 2

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 19:18:45 -0700

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) was able to practice in full Wednesday, Sept. 16, and he said after that he expects make his regular season debut in Week 2 against the Washington Redskins.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is a risky play in FantasyScore, as he could be eased into action and see limited touches. If he splits reps with Benny Cunningham ($4,000, 8.0% of cap), who did a good job in Week 1 against Seattle, Cunningham would be the slightly better value play.

Rams | Tre Mason returns to practice

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 15:56:11 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (thigh) put in a full practice Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is feeling much better and even saw time with the starters Wednesday. He's on track to start against the Washington Redskins in Week 2 and could be an under-the-radar flex option on FantasyScore after he sat out the opener. However, if Todd Gurley miraculously starts this weekend, all bets are off.

Rams | Tre Mason making progress

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 21:48:22 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) is feeling better, head coach Jeff Fisher said Tuesday, Sept. 15. More will be known about Mason's status later in the week.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) was inactive in Week 1, and it appears to be a race whether he or Todd Gurley ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) will be active first. Benny Cunningham ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) might be a good FantasyScore option again if both Mason and Gurley are unable to suit up.

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 08:34:33 -0700

Rams | Tre Mason will not play in Week 1

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 08:34:29 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (thigh) has been declared inactive for the Week 1 game against the Seattle Seahawks. RB Benny Cunningham will be the starting running back for the Rams.

Fantasy Tip: Cunningham ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) should see most of the work at running back with Mason and Todd Gurley sidelined. He be facing a tough defense but could be a cheaper starting option on FantasyScore.

Rams | Tre Mason does not appear ready

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 07:34:02 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason's (thigh) playing status for the Week 1 game against the Seattle Seahawks does not appear to be optimistic at this point. RB Benny Cunningham likely would start at running back if Mason is not able to play.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) probably should be avoided by fantasy owners, because he could be limited if he active for the game. Cunningham ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) will be facing a tough opponent but could be a cheaper option on FantasyScore to consider.

Rams | Tre Mason a game-time decision

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 19:43:27 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason is a "game-time decision" against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

Fantasy Tip: If Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) can't go, Benny Cunningham ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) will likely receive a bulk of the carries. However, Cunningham managed just 13 yards on six carries in two meetings against the Seahawks last year, and even with a bigger role, he won't provide much help at FantasyScore.

Rams | Tre Mason might not play

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 14:43:50 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (thigh) missed practice for the third straight day Friday, Sept. 11, and is questionable for Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Tip: It's not a good sign at all for Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) playing in Week 1 after he didn't practice at all this week. Don't click him on FantasyScore. With Todd Gurley also out, Benny Cunningham ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) could be in line for the lion's share of touches against Seattle. It's a tough matchup, though, so only go with Cunningham as a sleeper in daily games if you want to zag while others zig.

Rams | Tre Mason sits out again

Thu, 10 Sep 2015 16:25:53 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (thigh) missed practice again Thursday, Sept. 10. The Rams conducted a walkthrough Thursday, however, so the practice report is an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) hasn't practiced all week and could be a game-time decision in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks' feared defense. That's not a ringing endorsement to use him. Benny Cunningham ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) would be in line to start if Mason doesn't suit up. The matchup is ugly, but he could pay off as a contrarian play in daily setups - plus he's really cheap.

Rams | Tre Mason does not practice

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 15:08:33 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (thigh) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) may be a game-time decision for Week 1, so owners should keep an eye out on his practice participation. Owners on FantasyScore may want to use a healthier option at running back. Benny Cunningham ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) could see a majority of the carries if Mason is out and could be a cheaper option to use.

Rams | Tre Mason doesn't practice

Tue, 08 Sep 2015 15:37:46 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) did not participate in practice Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Mason is already expcted to be a game-time decision for the Rams in Week 1. If Mason is not able to play, and with Todd Gurley already out, Benny Cunningham could be a sneaky play in Week 1 on FantasyScore at just $2,000 and 4.0% of cap.

Rams | Tre Mason likely to be GTD in Week 1

Mon, 07 Sep 2015 18:24:28 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) is likely to be a game-time decision for the Week 1 game against the Seattle Seahawks, head coach Jeff Fisher said on his weekly radio show Monday, Sept. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) isn't that great of a play against the stout Seattle defense in FantasyScore when he is 100 percent, but he should be avoided completely since he is such a question mark. Benny Cunningham ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) could be a nice value play.

Rams | Tre Mason questionable for Week 1

Sat, 05 Sep 2015 16:13:14 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) is questionable for Week 1. "Tre's doing good," head coach Jeff Fisher said. "He had two treatment sessions today, and he's doing well. So we'll see how he is during the week." RB Benny Cunningham is expected to have a larger role whether Mason plays or not.

Fantasy Tip: Mason ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) sounds like an iffy play on FantasyScore against the stout Seattle Seahawks. Cunningham ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) could be a decent low-end play.

Rams | Tre Mason not practicing

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 12:29:59 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) is not practicing Tuesday, Sept. 1, with a strained hamstring.

Fantasy Tip: Mason's status for Week 1 is still iffy, but the strain is mild. The Rams are already expected to be without Todd Gurley, so if Mason plays he should see a good chunk of playing time. Mason is in RB3 territory heading into Week 1, while Gurley has more upside and should be in RB2 territory.

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) suffered a mild hamstring strain during the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29. He is not expected to play in the final preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor Mason's practice participation over the next few weeks to see if he has a chance to play Week 1. Mason is expected to receive most of the carries early in the season and could be a middle- to last-round option in leagues.

Rams | Tre Mason's stock rising?

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 16:52:31 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason seems more and more likely to open the 2015 season as the unrivalled starter in the backfield for the regular-season opener Sunday, Sept. 13, against the Seattle Seahawks. RB Todd Gurley (knee) said Tuesday, Aug. 11, he doesn't know if he'll be cleared in time.

Fantasy Tip: Mason will be a part of a committee with Gurley later on in the season, but both season-long and FantasyScore owners could likely mine some extra value from him in the first couple weeks of the season.

Rams | Todd Gurley to be part of committee?

Sat, 08 Aug 2015 18:18:46 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley and RB Tre Mason will be part of a rotation this season, according to head coach Jeff Fisher. "Our intention is to have a rotation," Fisher said. "Even if Todd is 100%, I still want to have the rotation with Tre, because Tre is special. I think that one-two combination is going to be great."

Fantasy Tip: While Gurley and Mason are going to split carries, it remains to be seen how those carries are going to be divided. Gurley has the better long-term value, and while he is coming off an injury, he should be a quality RB2 by the end of the year.

Rams | Todd Gurley unlikely for preseason

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 11:00:17 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) is coming along slowly from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee, and head coach Jeff Fisher said it's unlikely that Gurley plays in the preseason. Fisher said Gurley already has a grasp of the offense and has praised him for his talent. Fisher expects Gurley and RB Tre Mason to rotate in the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Gurley and Mason could form a formidable one-two punch in the St. Louis backfield, but you should temper your expectations for Gurley in his rookie season coming off a serious injury without any repetitions in preseason action. There's plenty of upside to Gurley, but banking on RB2 production right away is overly optimistic, especially if he'll be sharing touches with Mason.

Rams | Tre Mason held out

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 06:20:38 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason (hamstring) was held out of practice with a tight hamstring Thursday, Aug. 6.

Fantasy Tip: The team plans to be extremely cautious with first-round pick Todd Gurley, and Mason should have at least a timeshare this season. Mason could come at a value as an RB3 on draft day.

Rams | Tre Mason to have first shot at starting?

Thu, 23 Jul 2015 15:49:31 -0700

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason will get first crack at the starting running back position until rookie RB Todd Gurley (knee) is healthy enough to start.

Fantasy Tip: The key question here is how long will it take Gurley to get healthy enough to be a starting NFL running back? Only time will tell, but if might be a safe decision to draft Mason in a later round if you take Gurley in an earlier round. Neither should be viewed as more than a RB2.

Rams | Pass protection key for Tre Mason

Thu, 26 Feb 2015 19:11:12 -0800

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason didn't play until Week 6 of last season because of his issues with pass protection, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

Fantasy Tip: He was the team's best rusher once he stepped on the field, and given Fisher's desire to make St. Louis a power-running team, Mason could be primed for a big season in 2015 if he can handle his blocking assignments well enough to be an every-down back.

Rams | Isaiah Pead could be dumped by Rams

Sun, 08 Feb 2015 17:18:29 -0800

The St. Louis Rams might consider releasing RB Isaiah Pead this offseason. The move would create just under $941,000 of additional cap space. The club has RBs Tre Mason, Benny Cunningham, Zac Stacy and Trey Watts on the roster, and Pead hasn't had much impact since being drafted in the second round in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: Pead has been a huge disappointment, and he is well buried on the depth chart. He could latch on with another organization if released, but he has a long way to go to climb back into the fantasy picture.

Rams | Tre Mason productive in first half

Sun, 30 Nov 2014 11:50:02 -0800

St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason rushed for 113 yards and one touchdown on six carries in the first half of the team's Week 13 game.

Fantasy Tip: Mason has become the team's main running back but has not posted great numbers up to this point. Mason should continue to receive most of the carries and could be a solid starting option on FantasyScore.
