Packers | Eddie Lacy, Richard Rodgers probable

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 11:16:38 -0800

Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy (rib) and TE Richard Rodgers (hip) are both probable to face the Arizona Cardinals in the divisional round Saturday, Jan. 16. Lacy practiced in full Friday, Jan. 15, while Rodgers was a limited participant.

Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals present a tough matchup for Lacy ($5,700, 11.4% of cap), but the Packers will likely lean on him often if they don't fall behind early. You could do much worse than him on FantasyScore. Rodgers ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) could be relied on more as a safety blanket with Davante Adams out.

Packers | Richard Rodgers still limited

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 15:11:44 -0800

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers (hip) was limited in practice Thursday, Jan. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) is coming off a stellar outing in the wild-card round of the playoffs last week. He could have another solid outing this weekend, especially with more targets possibly coming his way with Davante Adams expected to sit. Plus, the Arizona Cardinals were mediocre at best against the tight end position this season.

Packers | Eddie Lacy, Richard Rodgers limited

Wed, 13 Jan 2016 14:19:37 -0800

Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy (ribs) and TE Richard Rodgers (hip) were limited in practice Wednesday, Jan. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Lacy ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) did very little with his 13 carries versus the Washington Redskins last week, gaining just 34 yards on the ground. He added two catches for seven yards, but he's just too risky be seriously consider starting this week against the Arizona Cardinals, who were not accommodating at all to running backs this season. As for Rodgers ($6,000, 12.0%), he had a great game last week, tallying seven catches for 59 yards and a score. That line broke him out of a three-game slump, and he's not a bad play this week either.

Packers | Richard Rodgers disappears

Sun, 10 Jan 2016 18:36:59 -0800

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers posted two catches for just 11 yards in the NFC Wild Card Game Sunday, Jan. 10, against the Washington Redskins. He was targeted four times.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers posted underwhelming numbers in the final quarter of the regular season, and it carried over into the postseason. He was limited to one grab for two yards on three targets in Week 16 against the Arizona Cardinals, next week's opponent.

Packers | Richard Rodgers post 59 yards, TD

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 22:55:16 -0800

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers posted a game-high seven receptions with 59 yards and a touchdown in the Week 17 game against the Minnesota Vikings. He was targeted eight times.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers has scored three touchdowns over the past five games, but he had just three receptions for 12 yards and a score in his past three games entering play. Still, now that the playoffs start next week Rodgers will be a solid mid-tier FantasyScore option.

Packers | Richard Rodgers disappears

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 20:43:05 -0800

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers had just one reception for two yards in the Week 16 game against the Arizona Cardinals. He was targeted three times.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers posted 146 yards with that Hail Mary touchdown miracle Dec. 3 against the Detroit Lions. In the next three games he has just one reception in each game, totaling three catches for 12 yards and a touchdown. Ouch.

Packers | Richard Rodgers posts 146 yards

Thu, 03 Dec 2015 22:39:10 -0800

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers caught eight passes for 146 yards and one touchdown against the Detroit Lions in Week 13.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers has not done much this season but had a breakout game in Week 13. He has caught at least four receptions in four of his last five games but probably is not a great fantasy option moving forward.

Packers | GB offense lacking speed

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 09:10:25 -0800

The Green Bay Packers have the slowest team in the league when it comes to skill positions in the passing game. The combined average 40-yard dash time of WRs Randall Cobb (4.55 seconds), Davante Adams (4.56), James Jones (4.6) plus TE Richard Rodgers (4.87) ranks as a league-worst 4.65 seconds. One of the biggest reasons the Packers receivers can't get open consistently this year is because of their lack of speed, according to an NFL scout. The loss of WR Jordy Nelson and his 4.51-second 40-yard dash has slowed this offense down. WRs Jeff Janis and Ty Montgomery are much faster, but neither is a top three receiver for the team right now, and Montgomery has missed the last two games with an ankle injury.

Fantasy Tip: As Demovsky notes, the biggest thing hurting this aerial game is the absence of Nelson as one of Aaron Rodgers' ($8,800, 17.6% of cap) favorite go-to targets. Rodgers will stay afloat but shouldn't be considered an elite QB1 week in and week out. This weekend against the Detroit Lions he should at least be able to put up respectable numbers for those that pay up for him on FantasyScore.

Packers | Richard Rodgers heavily involved

Mon, 05 Oct 2015 14:55:55 -0700

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers caught five passes for 45 yards and a touchdown on six targets in a Week 4 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: It was the best game of this young season for Rodgers. He now has two touchdowns on the season and has turned into a nice sleeper. He's worth a pickup off waivers if available in seasonal leagues.

Packers | Richard Rodgers gets into end zone

Sun, 20 Sep 2015 22:44:13 -0700

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers had three receptions for 23 yards and a touchdown in the Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) isn't a high-end FantasyScore tight end, but he isn't bad if you want to save a little salary while still getting some decent production.

Packers | Richard Rodgers expected to do more

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 18:41:09 -0700

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers is expected to see more opportunities in the passing game with WR Jordy Nelson (knee) done for the season.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers is still not being drafted in a majority of fantasy formats, ranking in the Top 25 at his position at best. However, he is a player who could see considerable growth and is a guy worth checking on off the waiver wire.

Packers | Richard Rodgers showing improvement

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 16:21:18 -0700

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers has improved from last year, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. Specifically, McCarthy said Rodgers has improved in the passing game and understands it more, and he's catching the ball well.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers is in prime position to be the starting tight end for the Packers this season. That's not guaranteed yet, though, with Andrew Quarless also in the mix. Green Bay may take a committee approach at tight end. Rodgers has more promise, but he shouldn't be viewed as a starting fantasy tight end.

Packers | Richard Rodgers busy in red zone

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 07:53:30 -0700

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers has been a frequent target of QB Aaron Rodgers inside the red zone in training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers is a sleeper at the position, and there is a logjam of tight ends in the low-end TE1, high-end TE2 area. He could be a nice diamond in the rough in drafts.

Packers | Richard Rodgers receives praise

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 11:33:24 -0700

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers has the ability to be a top-level talent, according to tight ends coach Jerry Fontenot.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers and Andrew Quarless are expected to both see an adequate amount of playing time this year. Rodgers may have more promise, but neither should be taken as a starting fantasy tight end.

Packers | Richard Rodgers, Andrew Quarless to compete

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 09:57:16 -0700

Green Bay Packers TEs Richard Rodgers and Andrew Quarless are expected to compete for the starting tight end job this year. Quarless caught 29 passes for 323 yards and three touchdowns in 2014. However, he could be subject to discipline under the league's personal conduct policy after being arrested over the weekend for discharging a firearm in public.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers played fewer snaps than Quarless and didn't produce as much, but those roles could be reversed in 2015, especially after Quarless' arrest this past weekend. However, neither are worth drafting in standard fantasy leagues.

Packers | Richard Rodgers to see more snaps?

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 13:53:30 -0700

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers could see more playing time in 2015, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com. Rodgers played 528 snaps, while fellow TE Andrew Quarless played 695 snaps. Demovsky said he wouldn't be surprised if those numbers reversed this season.

Fantasy Tip: Rodgers may see an increased role, but there's still Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Davante Adams to account for, not to mention another tight end in Quarless. There are a lot of mouths to feed in Green Bay, and Rodgers will feed his receivers first. Neither Rodgers nor Quarless are starter worthy.

Packers | Coach impressed with Richard Rodgers

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 19:03:49 -0700

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers has progressed and taken a natural step forward, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. "You look at the way he performed Week 1 compared to how he performed the last stretch of the season. Now you have a chance to go back and look at all the video, it's a lot more natural for him. He's not thinking about what he's doing, he's obviously focusing more on his technique and fundamentals and his awareness of what the defense is doing."

Fantasy Tip: At this point, Rodgers should be viewed as nothing more than a low-end No. 2 tight end for drafts. He will compete with Andrew Quarless and sixth-round selection Kennard Backman for playing time. However, it shouldn't surprise if Rodgers makes the biggest splash in the virtual game. Expect weekly inconsistency, but in the right matchups, Rodgers could prove to be a nice budget flier for FantasyScore contests.

Sat, 16 Aug 2014 13:36:57 -0700

Packers | Competition for starting TE job wide open

Sat, 12 Jul 2014 08:47:36 -0700

Green Bay Packers tight ends coach Jerry Fontenot said the competition for the starting tight end job will be wide open when training camp starts. "I think we are pretty wide open at this point," Fontenot said. "I think guys have shown some progress, and those guys warrant a much bigger look. And I think once we get to training camp, we'll have an idea of a rotation, at least, and giving guys reps just to make sure they're ready to start the season." TE Andrew Quarless may be the safest option to start at this point, but TE Richard Rodgers could start in the near future because of his performance during offseason workouts.

I've been very pleased with Richard so far."

Sat, 21 Jun 2014 08:51:04 -0700

Green Bay Packers TE Richard Rodgers could be the leading candidate for the starting tight end job entering training camp based on offseason workouts. Rodgers will show he can be an effective blocker if he wants to win the starting job. Rodgers received more reps during the offseason workouts, because TE Andrew Quarless (undisclosed) did not participate at all.

Thu, 12 Jun 2014 15:19:42 -0700

The Green Bay Packers signed third-round TE Richard Rodgers to a four-year contract worth $2.761 million, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Packers tight end corps is unsettled, so if Rodgers can earn playing time, he has limited fantasy appeal in the deepest of formats.
