49ers | Bruce Ellington lands on the IR

Tue, 30 Aug 2016 13:02:31 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington (hamstring) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Aug. 30. He is out for the season.

Fantasy Tip: This is a significant blow for the 49ers' already subpar offense. Torrey Smith's status as San Francisco's No. 1 receiver solidifies, while Quinton Patton likely becomes the No. 2 receiver and gets a good bump in fantasy value. Even still, Patton should only be looked at in later rounds and should be thought of as no more than a WR4 in deeper leagues.

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington (hamstring) limped to the locker room against the Green Bay Packers Friday, Aug. 26, with a hamstring injury.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington was in line to open the year as the starting slot receiver, but a serious injury could change that. If healthy, he could be a decent WR5 in PPR formats.

49ers | Bruce Ellington resumes practicing

Mon, 22 Aug 2016 18:49:06 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington (ankle) returned to practice Monday, Aug. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington is expected to start in the slot for the Niners, and he could be a decent WR4 in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams if he holds onto the job and is able to produce.

49ers | Bruce Ellington dealing with sore ankle

Fri, 19 Aug 2016 18:26:12 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington (ankle) hasn't practiced much this week and is questionable to play against the Denver Broncos Saturday, Aug. 20.

Fantasy Tip: If he can stay healthy, Ellington has a chance to thrive as the slot receiver in Chip Kelly's offense. He could be a late-round steal, especially in PPR formats.

49ers | Bruce Ellington emerging as 'best option'

Sun, 14 Aug 2016 14:05:36 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington has proven to be the 49ers' best option as a slot receiver through the first two weeks of training camp, according to CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.

Fantasy Tip: Injuries have conspired to hold Ellington to 19 catches over his first two seasons as a pro, but a breakout season for a player with his quickness in a Chip Kelly offense should come as a shock to no one. His current 13th-round ADP in PPR formats should be considered highway robbery and should be considered even more of a steal in leagues that reward return yardage, as he is projected to run back kicks and punts as well. Ellington has WR3 upside at a WR5 price.

49ers | Bruce Ellington bothered by finger injury

Sat, 06 Aug 2016 09:36:17 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington (finger) suffered a "jammed" finger during practice Thursday, Aug. 4, and had the middle and index fingers on his right hand taped together Friday, Aug. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Although Ellington is in the mix to be the Niners' starting slot receiver, he possesses limited upside and is not a great fantasy option. Barring an injury to Torrey Smith, Ellington should be viewed as a WR5 in deeper seasonal leagues.

49ers | Bruce Ellington likely for slot spot

Wed, 03 Aug 2016 20:23:17 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington is projected by beat writer Grant Cohn to serve as the starting slot receiver over WR DeAndrew White. Rookie WR Aaron Burbridge is also in the mix for the job.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington might have a prominent role in the offense, but he is not expected to be a big-time fantasy option. His appeal will be limited mostly to league of 14 or more teams as a WR5 with limited upside.

49ers | SF wideout jobs are wide open

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 22:15:06 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WRs Bruce Ellington, Quinton Patton and Jerome Simpson are in the mix for the starting job opposite WR Torrey Smith. WR Dres Anderson isn't expected to be consistent enough to shoulder the load, but he is also in the battle. WR DeAndrew White has plenty of size, but he is considered closer to the roster bubble than he is to being a regular contributor.

Fantasy Tip: None of these receivers are worth drafting in most fantasy leagues unless they have a giant training camp and preseason or something bad happens to Torrey Smith to vault one of these guys to the No. 1 job.

49ers | San Fran's starting receivers

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 08:48:07 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WRs Torrey Smith, Quinton Patton and Bruce Ellington would be the team's starting receivers if the season started today. Patton struggled with some dropped passes during practice Thursday, June 2.

Fantasy Tip: Smith is the veteran of the bunch and the safest fantasy target as a WR3 that profiles better as a deep threat in standard-scoring formats. Patton is the one who could be a decent sleeper with WR3 upside as a speedster if he can develop chemistry with Colin Kaepernick. Ellington, for now, can be left to waivers in most leagues.

49ers | Bruce Ellington starting in the slot

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 18:11:25 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington has been working as the starting slot receiver during OTAs.

Fantasy Tip: Slot receivers have had success in Chip Kelly's offense, and Ellington has the speed to be a matchup problem for defenses. He is worth taking a chance on in the later rounds of drafts.

49ers | Bruce Ellington could thrive in slot

Mon, 30 May 2016 03:27:21 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington will have a chance to play in the slot in 2016, and Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews caught 16 touchdowns working mainly from the slot in the two seasons with Chip Kelly as his head coach.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington still has to secure a starting role, but he has the speed to be a problem in open space. Kellyís system has made fantasy starts out of unheralded players in the past, so Ellington could be a useful addition in the later rounds, particularly in PPR leagues.

49ers | Carlos Hyde fully recovered

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 20:10:11 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde (foot) appears to be fully recovered from foot surgery. His agent posted a video of Hyde and RB Bruce Ellington going through drills and each player looks ready for the team's offseason program starting April 4.

Fantasy Tip: Hyde will be trying to hold off a charge from Ellington, Mike Davis, Shaun Draughn Kendall Gaskins, DuJuan Harris and Jarryd Hayne in training camp and the preseason. He has the most experience and is worth a look as an RB2 or flex fantasy option in 2016 barring any setbacks.

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 18:38:49 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington (calf) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has speed to spare, but with just four catches this year, he is clearly not a big part of the passing attack at this point. Even if he takes the field, he isnít worth using at FantasyScore.
