49ers | Bruce Ellington resumes practicing

Mon, 22 Aug 2016 18:49:06 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington (ankle) returned to practice Monday, Aug. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington is expected to start in the slot for the Niners, and he could be a decent WR4 in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams if he holds onto the job and is able to produce.

49ers | Bruce Ellington dealing with sore ankle

Fri, 19 Aug 2016 18:26:12 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington (ankle) hasn't practiced much this week and is questionable to play against the Denver Broncos Saturday, Aug. 20.

Fantasy Tip: If he can stay healthy, Ellington has a chance to thrive as the slot receiver in Chip Kelly's offense. He could be a late-round steal, especially in PPR formats.

49ers | Bruce Ellington emerging as 'best option'

Sun, 14 Aug 2016 14:05:36 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington has proven to be the 49ers' best option as a slot receiver through the first two weeks of training camp, according to CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.

Fantasy Tip: Injuries have conspired to hold Ellington to 19 catches over his first two seasons as a pro, but a breakout season for a player with his quickness in a Chip Kelly offense should come as a shock to no one. His current 13th-round ADP in PPR formats should be considered highway robbery and should be considered even more of a steal in leagues that reward return yardage, as he is projected to run back kicks and punts as well. Ellington has WR3 upside at a WR5 price.

49ers | Bruce Ellington bothered by finger injury

Sat, 06 Aug 2016 09:36:17 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington (finger) suffered a "jammed" finger during practice Thursday, Aug. 4, and had the middle and index fingers on his right hand taped together Friday, Aug. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Although Ellington is in the mix to be the Niners' starting slot receiver, he possesses limited upside and is not a great fantasy option. Barring an injury to Torrey Smith, Ellington should be viewed as a WR5 in deeper seasonal leagues.

49ers | Bruce Ellington likely for slot spot

Wed, 03 Aug 2016 20:23:17 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington is projected by beat writer Grant Cohn to serve as the starting slot receiver over WR DeAndrew White. Rookie WR Aaron Burbridge is also in the mix for the job.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington might have a prominent role in the offense, but he is not expected to be a big-time fantasy option. His appeal will be limited mostly to league of 14 or more teams as a WR5 with limited upside.

49ers | SF wideout jobs are wide open

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 22:15:06 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WRs Bruce Ellington, Quinton Patton and Jerome Simpson are in the mix for the starting job opposite WR Torrey Smith. WR Dres Anderson isn't expected to be consistent enough to shoulder the load, but he is also in the battle. WR DeAndrew White has plenty of size, but he is considered closer to the roster bubble than he is to being a regular contributor.

Fantasy Tip: None of these receivers are worth drafting in most fantasy leagues unless they have a giant training camp and preseason or something bad happens to Torrey Smith to vault one of these guys to the No. 1 job.

49ers | San Fran's starting receivers

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 08:48:07 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WRs Torrey Smith, Quinton Patton and Bruce Ellington would be the team's starting receivers if the season started today. Patton struggled with some dropped passes during practice Thursday, June 2.

Fantasy Tip: Smith is the veteran of the bunch and the safest fantasy target as a WR3 that profiles better as a deep threat in standard-scoring formats. Patton is the one who could be a decent sleeper with WR3 upside as a speedster if he can develop chemistry with Colin Kaepernick. Ellington, for now, can be left to waivers in most leagues.

49ers | Bruce Ellington starting in the slot

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 18:11:25 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington has been working as the starting slot receiver during OTAs.

Fantasy Tip: Slot receivers have had success in Chip Kelly's offense, and Ellington has the speed to be a matchup problem for defenses. He is worth taking a chance on in the later rounds of drafts.

49ers | Bruce Ellington could thrive in slot

Mon, 30 May 2016 03:27:21 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington will have a chance to play in the slot in 2016, and Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews caught 16 touchdowns working mainly from the slot in the two seasons with Chip Kelly as his head coach.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington still has to secure a starting role, but he has the speed to be a problem in open space. Kellyís system has made fantasy starts out of unheralded players in the past, so Ellington could be a useful addition in the later rounds, particularly in PPR leagues.

49ers | Carlos Hyde fully recovered

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 20:10:11 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde (foot) appears to be fully recovered from foot surgery. His agent posted a video of Hyde and RB Bruce Ellington going through drills and each player looks ready for the team's offseason program starting April 4.

Fantasy Tip: Hyde will be trying to hold off a charge from Ellington, Mike Davis, Shaun Draughn Kendall Gaskins, DuJuan Harris and Jarryd Hayne in training camp and the preseason. He has the most experience and is worth a look as an RB2 or flex fantasy option in 2016 barring any setbacks.

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 18:38:49 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington (calf) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has speed to spare, but with just four catches this year, he is clearly not a big part of the passing attack at this point. Even if he takes the field, he isnít worth using at FantasyScore.

49ers | Jarryd Hayne plays backup

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 12:18:21 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Jarryd Hayne was thrust into backup running back duties in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings. RB Reggie Bush (calf) left the game with a strained calf, leaving Hayne as the only active backup behind RB Carlos Hyde. Hayne was also supplanted as the 49ers' punt returner by WR Bruce Ellington after Hayne muffed his first punt return.

Fantasy Tip: Hayne ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) isn't a real good start on FantasyScore against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Comment (0) | Share: Tweet!Share on Facebook | Source: FOXSports.com

49ers | Will Jarryd Hayne make active roster?

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 09:47:19 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Jarryd Hayne does not yet know if he'll be active for Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings, and head coach Jim Tomsula has been mum on whether Hayne will make the active roster on game day. Tomsula said the Niners could use more than one return man in the game against the Vikings. Hayne and WRs Bruce Ellington and DeAndrew White each returned punts and kickoffs in the preseason, and RB Reggie Bush was back for two punts in the third preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: Hayne ($2,000, 4.0% of cap), a former rugby star, was very impressive in the preseason returning kicks, and his versatility at running back could make the difference. However, until he proves that he will consistently be a returner for SF, he has very little value in fantasy leagues. He's only worth considering in leagues that reward points for return yardage, too.

49ers | Bruce Ellington shines Thursday

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 10:51:52 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington had three catchers for 86 yards to lead all receivers in the team's final preseason game against the San Diego Chargers Thursday, Sept. 3, including a 70-yard touchdown. He also had a 60-yard punt return that was called back due to a penalty. Head coach Jim Tomsula had a one-on-one conversation with Ellington this offseason about taking better care of his body. Ellington had hamstring issues this offseason and missed much of training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington has youth on his side and could be a surprise if he can stay healthy and win the No. 3 receiving job in San Fran. However, in traditional fantasy football leagues, he'll be a waiver wire target early in the season.

49ers | Bruce Ellington could win No. 3 WR job

Thu, 03 Sep 2015 14:06:18 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington could win the No. 3 wide receiver job if he has a solid performance during the final preseason game Thursday, Sept. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington missed part of training camp because of a hamstring injury but played in the last preseason game and should see solid playing time Thursday. Ellington probably should not be selected in most drafts but could be a waiver wire option if he plays well early.

49ers | Bruce Ellington to return

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 13:03:40 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WRs Bruce Ellington (leg) will return to practice this week, according to head coach Jim Tomsula. Ellington has been dealing with a muscle strain in his leg.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington could wind up as San Francisco's third wide receiver behind Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith. Quinton Patton, Jerome Simpson and others will also compete for that spot. Ellington has minimal fantasy value right now, however.

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 14:29:02 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington (leg) did not participate in practice Friday, Aug. 21.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known when Ellington will be able to return to practice, so owners should monitor the situation. Ellington could be the team's No. 3 or 4 receiver if healthy but probably will not have a lot of fantasy value.

49ers | Bruce Ellington won't play Saturday

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 13:40:25 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington (leg) will not play Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Houston Texans as he continues to rehabilitate a leg muscle strain.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington may be the No. 3 or No. 4 wide receiver behind Anquan Boldin, Torrey Smith and possibly Quinton Patton. Ellington is a promising, young player, but it's too early in his career for him to be considered more than a WR5.

49ers | Bruce Ellington impresses in camp

Sun, 02 Aug 2015 20:27:53 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington was impressive as the No. 3 receiver during training camp Sunday, Aug. 2, catching a long touchdown from QB Colin Kaepernick and adding an acrobatic catch down the sidelines.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington has the speed to turn any catch into a big play, and if he wins the No. 3 receiver job, he could be worth a flier in deeper formats.

49ers | Bruce Ellington looking ready

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 18:40:03 -0700

San Francisco 49ers WR Bruce Ellington (hamstring) sat out most of the 2014 season due to injury but a video posted to his Instagram account Tuesday, July 21, makes it seems he's ready to go for the 2015 season.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington appeared in 13 games last season, but he hauled in just six receptions for 62 yards and two touchdowns. Ellington also ran for a touchdown, and he could provide a surprise boost to the 49ers passing game this season.
