Vikings | Jerick McKinnon to have surgery

Sat, 06 Dec 2014 12:54:18 -0800

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) will have a procedure on his injured back, according to a source. The recovery period is expected to be eight weeks. He should be good to go before offseason workouts begin. McKinnon was placed on Reserve/Injured Saturday, Dec. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Again, Matt Asiata might be a nice flex option at least this week at a low price of $3,600 on FantasyScore. He, Ben Tate and Joe Banyard will get repetitions out of the backfield with McKinnon done.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon placed on IR

Sat, 06 Dec 2014 12:07:45 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Dec. 6.

Fantasy Tip: This gives added value to RBs Matt Asiata, Ben Tate and Joe Banyard for the remainder of the season, with Asiata likely getting the majority of playing time. Asiata might be worth a look on FantasyScore this week at just $3,600.

Fri, 05 Dec 2014 11:52:50 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) did not participate in practice Friday, Dec. 5, and has been ruled out for Week 14.

Fantasy Tip: With McKinnon ruled out, the team will likely rotate between Matt Asiata and Ben Tate, with the team going with the hot hand. Asiata is probably the better play in FantasyScore this week.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon out again

Thu, 04 Dec 2014 14:24:38 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) did not practice for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 4, and his chances of playing in Week 14 against the New York Jets aren't looking great.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon ($5,300) is an extremely risky option for your Week 14 FantasyScore lineups. If he misses another game, Matt Asiata ($3,600) and Ben Tate ($3,000) should pick up the slack. Asiata is the better fantasy option for daily lineups at a cheap price, but the Jets have a stout defensive front that could limit him on the ground.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon sits

Wed, 03 Dec 2014 13:14:15 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 3.

Fantasy Tip: This is not a good sign for McKinnon's availability this week, but check back later in the week to see if he can get back on the practice field. McKinnon would cost $5,300 in FantasyScore this week.

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) has been declared inactive for Week 13.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon officially doubtful

Fri, 28 Nov 2014 14:59:13 -0800

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) has officially been listed as doubtful for Week 13. McKinnon has already said that he will not play.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Asiata and Ben Tate figure to see the majority of work out of the backfield with McKinnon out. Asiata's price of $4,100 on FantasyScore could make for a nice flex option in a favorable matchup against the Carolina Panthers.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon to miss Week 13

Fri, 28 Nov 2014 11:08:10 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) said he has been ruled out for Week 13.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Asiata and Ben Tate likely will receive carries this week with Asiata receiving a majority of the work, because he is more familiar with the offense. Asiata costs $4,100 on FantasyScore and could be a nice sleeper option for owners at running back or the flex position.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon sits out

Thu, 27 Nov 2014 14:27:42 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) did not participate in practice Thursday, Nov. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to check his practice participation Friday, Nov. 28, to see if he makes any progress. McKinnon could share work with Matt Asiata if he is active and may not be the best option to use on FantasyScore at $5,400.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon misses practice

Wed, 26 Nov 2014 15:08:39 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 26.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon saw the bulk of the carries in Week 12 with Matt Asiata (concussion) out, and that should be the case again in Week 13 against the Carolina Panthers. However, the workload could be split more evenly between Asiata and Tate if Asiata returns, making McKinnon's $5,400 FantasyScore price a bit sketchy.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon probable

Fri, 21 Nov 2014 14:15:48 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) was limited in practice Friday, Nov. 21, and is probable.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon will get the start this week, but there is risk here, especially f the Vikings fall behind early and have to throw the ball a lot. There are probably better options available to you in FantasyScore this week.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon limited in practice

Thu, 20 Nov 2014 14:27:04 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) was limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Offensive coordinator has already said McKinnon will keep his starting role even with RB Ben Tate now in town. The risk with McKinnon and all the Minnesota Vikings running backs, and why they're risky plays this week, is that they'll have to pass a lot if they fall behind to the Green Bay Packers.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon still the lead back

Thu, 20 Nov 2014 10:52:53 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) will retain the lead-back role, even after the team claimed RB Ben Tate off waivers from the Cleveland Browns Wednesday, Nov. 19, according to offensive coordinator Norv Turner. Turner said Tate was brought in for insurance because both McKinnon and RB Matt Asiata (concussion) were dealing with injuries this week. McKinnon said he will be ready for Week 12 against the Green Bay Packers. However, Asiata's status is in doubt. "We're excited about Jerick and what he's done and I see him as our running back," Turner said. "He's been limited in practice last week and couldn't practice (Wednesday) So you got to protect yourself, obviously with Matt not being able to practice (Wednesday) and in doubt as to whether he'll play or not."

Fantasy Tip: The real loser of the Tate signing has to be Asiata. McKinnon ($5,400) should play against the Packers, but how much will the Vikes run if they fall behind big early? Tate ($4,900) looks to be part of another committee, but he'll have better chance for fantasy success in his new digs. Consider him a flex option at FantasyScore.

Vikings | Ben Tate gives Vikes depth

Wed, 19 Nov 2014 14:07:02 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Ben Tate gives the team much-needed depth at the running back position, with RBs Jerick McKinnon (back) and Matt Asiata (concussion) both missing practice Wednesday, Nov. 19. McKinnon leads the team with 484 yards and a 4.9 yards per carry average, while Asiata has six rushing touchdowns and a one receiving TD, but he has just 3.3 yards per carry.

Fantasy Tip: Tate ($4,900) could become part of another three-headed monster in Minnesota, but one would think he'd have a better shot at fantasy success this time around, especially with McKinnon ($5,400) and Asiata ($4,100) injured this week. Tate could wind up starting this weekend against the Green Bay Packers, but this backfield could be a crapshoot at FantasyScore, especially if the Packers get out to an early lead.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon misses practice

Wed, 19 Nov 2014 13:30:53 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon was able to play in Week 11 despite the injury, so he may just be resting the back. McKinnon could be a running back or flex option this week and costs $5,400 on FantasyScore.

Fri, 14 Nov 2014 12:52:31 -0800

Minnesota Vikings TE Chase Ford (foot) and RB Jerick McKinnon (back) both fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 14, and are probable for Week 11. DE Scott Crichton (hip) was limited in practice and is questionable. OT Michael X. Harris (ankle) did not participate and is questionable.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon limited Thursday

Thu, 13 Nov 2014 14:30:08 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) was limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 13.

Fantasy Tip: This is a new development, so keep tabs on McKinnon's status heading into the weekend. Assuming McKinnon still plays, Matt Asiata will still be involved in the running game as well, subsequently hampering McKinnon's production.

Vikings | MIN RBs share workload

Mon, 27 Oct 2014 05:48:18 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon played 43 snaps Sunday, Oct. 26, while RB Matt Asiata played 27. McKinnon accounted for 61 percent of the offensive snaps, while Asiata played 39 percent.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon is the clear leader at the position, but he's only a matchup play right now on FantasyScore.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon shows big-play ability

Tue, 21 Oct 2014 20:48:03 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon has rushed for at least five yards on 22 of his 60 carries this season, amassing 245 yards on those 22 attempts.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon's ability to consistently rip off big runs has allowed him to become the main back for the Vikings. Matt Asiata will probably keep stealing the goal-line carries, but McKinnon is the much better fantasy play at this point. He will take up 10.6% of the cap ($5,300) at FantasyScore in Week 8, and he makes a great mid-level play with the Vikings facing an awful Tampa Bay defense.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon hits century mark

Sun, 19 Oct 2014 14:55:44 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon carried 19 times for 103 yards in the Week 7 game against the Buffalo Bills, and he had two receptions which resulted in minus-2 yards.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon had 21 total touches to just seven for Matt Asiata, clearly passing him on the depth chart. FantasyScore owners will want to key on McKinnon going forward, especially if he heads into the next game with a mid-level salary.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon a lone bright spot

Mon, 13 Oct 2014 11:31:24 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon received his first start of his career in the team's Week 6 loss to the Detroit Lions. He had 11 carries for 40 yards and also a team-high six catches for 42 yards, as he was the lone bright spot of the offense. RB Matt Asiata had only two carries for negative five yards and one catch for 18 yards in the game. It was the first time Asiata didn't have double-digit carries since RB Adrian Peterson has been out.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon has stepped up and made the most of his expanded workload, and it looks like he may be taking the starting job from Asiata. McKinnon is a more of an all-purpose back, too, making him more valuable in PPR formats like FantasyScore. The Vikings face a tough running matchup against the Buffalo Bills in Week 7, though.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon takes over

Mon, 13 Oct 2014 06:08:29 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon played 58 offensive snaps in Week 6, while RB Matt Asiata played in just 15. McKinnon had 11 rushes for 40 yards and a team-high six catches for 42 yards.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon has a solid matchup against the Buffalo Bills in Week 7 and should be a worthwhile flex option on FantasyScore.

Minnesota Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph (abdomen, groin) did not participate in practice Friday, Oct. 10, and has been ruled out for the team's Week 6 game. LB Chad Greenway (hand, rib) was limited in practice and is doubtful. S Harrison Smith (ankle) was limited in practice and is questionable. DT Sharrif Floyd (elbow), LB Michael Mauti (foot) and RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) all fully practiced and are probable.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon practices in full

Thu, 09 Oct 2014 14:07:43 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Oct. 9.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon had only seven carries for 24 yards last week. Against the Detroit Lions' stout defensive front, another quiet day could be in store for him. He's cheap at FantasyScore ($4,700; 9.4% of cap), but you should look for better options.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon practices in full

Wed, 08 Oct 2014 14:58:04 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 8.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon has had a role in the offense in the last two games and is helping out in the running and passing game. McKinnon costs $4,700 on FantasyScore and could be a flex option for owners.

Vikings | Two Vikings RBs share workload

Sat, 04 Oct 2014 08:01:23 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Matt Asiata was on the field for 44 offensive snaps during the team's Week 5 game, while RB Jerick McKinnon played 30 offensive snaps.

Fantasy Tip: Asiata had a more productive game than McKinnon in Week 5, but McKinnon was also involved in the passing game. They probably will continue to share work while Adrian Peterson is out of the lineup. Asiata is probably the one that has more value in fantasy leagues, but McKinnon could also have some value.

Vikings | MIN RBs share the load

Fri, 03 Oct 2014 06:24:16 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Matt Asiata played 44 offensive snaps Thursday, Oct. 2, or 56 percent of the offense, while RB Jerick McKinnon played 30 snaps, or 38 percent of the offense.

Fantasy Tip: Asiata is the lead back right now, but McKinnon has shown some flashes to inch his way into the mix. Both are flex options right now with the slight nod to Asiata.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon probable

Wed, 01 Oct 2014 12:17:17 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 1, and is probable for Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon will be good to go in Week 5, and has a nice FantasyScore price of $3,900. Even on a short week, he is worth a look.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon limited

Tue, 30 Sep 2014 13:59:45 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) was limited in practice again Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Fantasy Tip: While RB Matt Asiata figures to see the majority of the workload out of the backfield, McKinnon could make for a nice investment at $3,900 on FantasyScore against a subpar Green Bay Packers defense.

Vikings | Vikes prefer running-back-by-committee

Tue, 30 Sep 2014 10:41:30 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon ran for 135 yards on 18 carries in the team's Week 4 win over the Atlanta Falcons, but head coach Mike Zimmer is hesitant to call him an every-down back, with RB Matt Asiata also in the mix. Zimmer prefers a committee approach at running back, because it poses more problems for defenses. Asiata is more of a between-the-tackles runner, while McKinnon presents a change of pace with his speed and quickness on the edges. McKinnon also isn't very polished in pass protection.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon was impressive last weekend, but he'll remain a flex play at FantasyScore with Asiata stealing valuable goal-line touches. Both Asiata ($6,500) and McKinnon ($4,700) could be productive again on a short week against the Green Bay Packers, but McKinnon obviously has a much better chance to return a profit.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon limited in practice

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 16:17:42 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) was limited in practice Monday, Sept. 29.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon's ankle injury doesn't seem serious, and he should be able to play on a short week against the Green Bay Packers. McKinnon showed some explosiveness in going over 100 yards in Week 4. He's a flex play, at best, with Matt Asiata in the picture and stealing goal-line looks, but McKinnon could be another sleeper play at your flex spot this week.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon to see touches

Fri, 12 Sep 2014 20:29:27 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon is expected to see touches in Week 2 against the New England Patriots with RB Adrian Peterson deactivated, but RB Matt Asiata is likely to start and see a majority of the carries.

Fantasy Tip: At $3700 (7.4 percent of salary cap) in FantasyScore leagues, McKinnon looks to be attractive, but that's the same price for Asiata. If you are looking for a low-cost option with upside, go Asiata over the rookie McKinnon.

Vikings | Plenty of totes for backup RBs

Fri, 08 Aug 2014 21:23:20 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon led the team with 12 carries and 45 yards in the preseason opener against the Oakland Raiders Friday, Aug. 8. He was also targeted twice, although he had zero receptions. RB Dominique Williams had nine totes for 27 yards, while RB Joe Banyard hauled the mail eight times for 22 yards while posting 13 yards on two catches. RB Matt Asiata also had three runs for 13 yards and a touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: The reserve running backs were getting plenty of work with Adrian Peterson resting, and with Peterson not expected to play in the preseason, they all are likely to get plenty of work. Asiata appears to be slotted as the primary backup with McKinnon as the No. 3 running back and Banyard and Williams battling for the No. 4 job, although that is still subject to change. Only Asiata is worth any fantasy consideration at this point.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon could have edge

Mon, 14 Jul 2014 07:20:16 -0700

Wed, 02 Jul 2014 09:58:03 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon will be asked to do a little bit of everything in his rookie season on offense and special teams.
