Vikings | Jerick McKinnon wants to be featured back

Mon, 22 Jan 2018 11:16:51 -0800

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent RB Jerick McKinnon said he would like to be a featured back for a team next season.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon likely will not return to the Vikings if he wants to be a No. 1 running back for a team. He may have trouble finding a starting job but would receive interest from several teams looking for a change-of-pace back. McKinnon has a chance to be a No. 3 or No. 4 fantasy running back in 2018 depending on his role.

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed 10 times for 40 yards in the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Jan. 21, and he added 11 receptions for 86 yards on 12 targets.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon might have played his final game in purple and white, as he heads into the offseason as an impending unrestricted free agent. His fantasy value in 2018 obviously hinges on whether he lands in a favorable situation or not.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon totals 40 yards, TD

Sun, 14 Jan 2018 17:51:08 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon ran eight times for 34 yards and a touchdown in the NFC Divisional Round playoff game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Jan. 14, and he added three grabs for six yards.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon was outgained by Murray for 67 total yards to 40, while Murray had 21 total touches to 11 for McKinnon. Look for a similar touch distribution in the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles next weekend. McKinnon is more of a RB3 or flex fantasy play in DFS for that one.

Wed, 27 Dec 2017 14:21:03 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (shoulder) participated fully in practice Wednesday, Dec. 27.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon has been a PPR force this year, but his production is inconsistent. He's safer as a flex play in Week 17 as the Vikings attempt to clinch a first-round bye in the playoffs.

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed seven times for 42 yards and caught one pass for nine yards in a 16-0 win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 16.

Fantasy Tip: With Minnesota in control of the game for most of the night, McKinnon didn't have a chance to make much of an impact in the passing game. He can still be considered a solid PPR flex option in the finale.

Wed, 20 Dec 2017 14:16:27 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (shoulder) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Dec. 20.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon's fantasy ceiling is stinted with Latavius Murray, but he does have more value in PPR formats. In a plus matchup versus the Green Bay Packers, McKinnon is, at worst, a PPR flex play.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon full go Tuesday

Tue, 19 Dec 2017 14:23:20 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (shoulder) put in a full practice Tuesday, Dec. 19. The Vikings did not practice; McKinnon's status is simply an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon amassed a surprising 114 receiving yards last week on seven catches. He almost certainly won't repeat that kind of performance, but he does deserve consideration as at least a PPR flex.

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (shoulder) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 14.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon limited in practice

Wed, 13 Dec 2017 14:18:02 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (shoulder) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Dec. 13.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon has taken a backseat to Latavius Murray in recent weeks, totaling 14 touches in Week 13 and just nine total touches in Week 14 while managing 107 total yards from scrimmage over the past two outings. He was able to find the end zone once, which is nice, but he is more of a RB4 in deeper fantasy leagues at the moment.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon totals 55 yards

Sun, 10 Dec 2017 14:17:55 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed seven times for 46 yards in Week 14 against the Carolina Panthers and he added a pair of receptions for nine yards.

Fantasy Tip: The total yards from scrimmage wasn't very good, but that's to be expected against a sturdy rush defense like Carolina. He should find more running room at home against Cincinnati in Week 15, but he is more of a RB3 or flex fantasy option in leagues of 12 or more teams.

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon caught five passes for 28 yards and one touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 13. He also rushed for 24 yards on nine carries during the game.

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed for 23 yards on 13 carries against the Detroit Lions in Week 12. He also caught one pass for 31 yards during the game.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon will continue to share work with Latavius Murray moving forward but should be more involved in the passing game. He can be a flex option in point-per-reception leagues against favorable matchups.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon totals 19 touches

Sun, 19 Nov 2017 15:41:57 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed 14 times for 48 yards in the Week 11 game against the Los Angeles Rams and he added five receptions for 12 yards on seven targets.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon basically saw an even split in carries with Latavius Murray, but the latter was far more efficient with 6.3 yards per rush and two touchdowns to McKinnon's 3.4 yards per tote and no scores. McKinnon remains more of a RB3 or flex option, especially in PPR formats, heading into Week 12 at Detroit on Thanksgiving.

Sun, 12 Nov 2017 17:51:19 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed 10 times for just 32 yards in Week 10 against the Washington Redskins and he added two receptions for 15 yards.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon was outgained badly by Latavius Murray and his opportunity with Dalvin Cook sidelined might be slipping away. He remains nothing more than an RB3 or flex option in most fantasy formats right now.

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon has 60 carries for 261 yards and three rushing touchdowns; with 20 receptions for 163 yards and one touchdown in the last four games.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon is the fifth-highest scoring running back in PPR leagues during the last five weeks. He faces a decent matchup in the Washington Redskins in Week 10, and he's an RB2 option in fantasy.

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed for 50 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries against the Cleveland Browns in Week 8. He also caught six passes for 72 yards during the game.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon has received at least 14 carries in each of the last four games and has three rushing touchdowns during that span. He also has at least five catches in three of the last four games. He should be considered a No. 2 running back or a flex option in all fantasy leagues.

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed for 47 yards on 14 carries against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 7. He also caught three passes for 10 yards during the game.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon saw his stats drop a bit this week against the Ravens but remains involved in the running and passing game. He should have a favorable matchup in Week 8 and can be a flex option in point-per-reception leagues.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon is good to go

Fri, 20 Oct 2017 15:25:07 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) practiced in full on Friday, Oct. 20, and he has been removed from the injury report ahead of the Week 7 game with the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon is likely to see a healthy amount of work against the Ravens, especially in the pass game, as Case Keenum will be without Stefon Diggs again. McKinnon is a respectable RB2 or flex option in most fantasy leagues, but especially so in PPR formats.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon fully healthy

Thu, 19 Oct 2017 14:14:14 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 19.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon has taken the NFL by storm since he was integrated as the featured running back two weeks ago. In those games, he has averaged 122.5 total yards, 5.5 catches and 1.5 touchdowns. The Baltimore Ravens have been susceptible to the running game this year, too, so start McKinnon as a low-end RB1 to high-end RB2.

Vikings | Full practice for Jerick McKinnon

Wed, 18 Oct 2017 13:46:53 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) was able to take part in a full practice Wednesday, Oct. 18.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon had a monster game in Week 6 and now he is looking to follow it up with another, picking up the slack of the injured rookie Dalvin Cook. The Ravens rank 30th in the NFL against the run, giving up 141.3 yards per game on the ground, so it could be another banner week for McKinnon.

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed 16 times for 69 yards and a touchdown in Week 6 against the Green Bay Packers and he added five receptions for 30 yards and a score.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon finally exploded for a big stat line, his first since Dalvin Cook went down with a serious injury. KcKinnon appears to have the potential to be a strong RB2 or flex play down the stretch. The Vikings host the Ravens in Week 7.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon delivers on Monday night

Mon, 09 Oct 2017 21:36:29 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries in the team's Week 5 game Monday, Oct. 9, versus the Chicago Bears. He also caught all six of his targets for 51 receiving yards.

Fantasy Tip: In the first game without Dalvin Cook, McKinnon immediately took ownership of Minnesota's backfield, as Latavius Murray didn't contribute much at all on his end. Meanwhile, the 25-year-old was great here, pretty much doing it all and leading the Vikings to the big road victory. He should also continue helping fantasy owners as an RB2 if this usage continues.

Mon, 02 Oct 2017 08:24:48 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) left the game Sunday, Oct. 1, due to an ankle injury.

Fantasy Tip: With Dalvin Cook (knee) likely out, McKinnon could see significant work alongside Latavius Murray. McKinnon is an RB5 flyer to target on waivers if his injury isn't serious.

Sun, 01 Oct 2017 15:05:47 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed twice for zero yards in Week 4 against the Detroit Lions and he had no catches on two targets.

Fantasy Tip: It was Latavius Murray, not McKinnon, who saw an increase in snaps once Dalvin Cook exited the game with what looked to be a serious knee injury. He will be a popular free agent target off the waiver wire in Week 5.

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (leg) did not practice Friday, July 28.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon bigger, better in 2017?

Sat, 27 May 2017 15:03:27 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon trained with former teammate Adrian Peterson in Houston during the offseason and weighs 211 pounds, up from 200 a season ago. McKinnon is reportedly not only stronger, but faster as well. "I'm just ready to prove myself and show how much better I've got in the offseason," McKinnon said.

Fantasy Tip: The Vikings added Latavius Murray and second-round pick Dalvin Cook this spring, but McKinnon boasts enough talent to give both a run for their money. Cook and Murray will likely end up winning out as the team has invested more money in them, although it will be difficult to keep a stronger and faster McKinnon off the field. If his offseason training is as good as he thinks it was, McKinnon could force the Vikings to go with a three-man committee backfield.

Vikings | Pat Shurmur focused on running game

Mon, 20 Feb 2017 14:55:47 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RBs Adrian Peterson and/or Jerick McKinnon could see increased usage in 2017 with offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. Shurmur wants to improve the offense as a whole, but he said the key and focal point of the offense will be to do a better job in the running game.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson's future with the Vikings remains unclear, but either he or McKinnon could be better used next season, with Matt Asiata remaining in a change-of-pace and passing role. No matter who Peterson plays for in 2017, drafting him will be playing with fire considering he's missed almost two full seasons in the past three years.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon finishes up strong

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 21:22:00 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed 16 times for 89 yards and a touchdown in the Week 17 game against the Chicago Bears. He added three receptions for 21 yards and a touchdown on his four targets.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon rushed for 539 yards with two scores, and he added 43 catches for 255 yards and two touchdowns. He proved he can be a solid PPR fantasy option in deeper leagues, but if Adrian Peterson is back at full speed in 2017 and wearing purple and gold, McKinnon once again takes a back seat.

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed for 50 yards on 11 carries against the Green Bay Packers in Week 16. He also caught five passes for 35 yards during the game.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon received most of the carries with Adrian Peterson out of the lineup and posted decent numbers against the Packers. He will continue to share work with Matt Asiata but can be a flex option in deeper leagues.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon totals 12 touches

Sun, 18 Dec 2016 18:22:20 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushes three times for 12 yards while racking up a team-high nine receptions for 59 yards on his nine targets in the Week 15 game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon saw a dent to his carry totals with Adrian Peterson back after an 11-game absence, but a lopsided score on the board led to more passing and McKinnon is clearly better with his hands out of the backfield than any of the other backs on the roster. He remains useful in deeper PPR formats, but he isn't worth using in standard formats into Week 16 unless Peterson is inactive for some reason.
