Vikings | Jerick McKinnon struggles

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 14:21:59 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed 16 times for 44 yards Sunday, Nov. 20, in a 30-24 win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Right now the Vikings have a running-back issue, the same issue that has plagued them since Adrian Peterson went down. None of Minnesota's backs really command any solid value at this point.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon has off day

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 13:17:27 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon ran six times for 16 yards Sunday, Nov. 13, in a 26-20 loss to the Washington Redskins.

Fantasy Tip: What is up with Minnesota's running game besides the fact the Vikings miss Adrian Peterson? Washington surrendered the fifth-most rushing yards per game, yet it gave up just 47 yards on Sunday. Right now, all Viking rushers are considered ineffective.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon ready to roll in Week 10

Fri, 11 Nov 2016 13:16:27 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) was a full participant in practice Friday, Nov. 11, and expected to play in Week 10 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon faces a favorable matchup against the league's 26th-ranked rush defense, as Washington gives up 123.8 yards per game with 12 touchdowns, tied for most in the NFL. McKinnon is a solid low-end RB2 in most fantasy formats and a sneaky DFS play, too.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon takes part in practice

Thu, 10 Nov 2016 12:08:27 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) fully participated in practice Thursday, Nov. 10.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon should be fine for the team's Week 10 game and likely will share playing time with Matt Asiata. He was only able to rush for eight yards on seven carries in the last game but may receive more touches since he is closer to being 100% healthy. McKinnon could be a flex option in some leagues but can also be benched if owners have better options.

Vikings | Full practice for Jerick McKinnon

Wed, 09 Nov 2016 13:12:47 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) participated fully in practice Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Fantasy Tip: The likely return of McKinnon does not necessarily mean he'll immediately be thrust back into a starting role. Matt Asiata has held his own with McKinnon out and both should split touches as they were before McKinnon's injury. If there are better choices in one's lineup(s), the safer option might be to bench both Minnesota running backs.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon active for Week 9

Sun, 06 Nov 2016 08:51:16 -0800

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (groin) is active for Week 9's game against the Detroit Lions.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the favorable matchup, McKinnon is expected to share carries this afternoon with Matt Asiata, so he should be considered no better than a flex option or RB3 versus the Lions.

Sun, 06 Nov 2016 06:07:12 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (groin) is expected to play in Week 9's game against the Detroit Lions, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon was a limited participant in the team's final two practices during the week and was listed as questionable on the injury report. He is likely to split carries with Matt Asiata versus Detroit and should be considered no better than an RB3 or flex option despite the favorable matchup.

Fri, 04 Nov 2016 16:07:59 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) was limited during practice Friday, Nov. 4, and is listed as questionable for Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon said he expects to play but owners will need to check on the inactive list to make sure he plays. He likely would share playing time with Matt Asiata if he plays and can be a flex option for owners.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon practices again

Fri, 04 Nov 2016 10:39:15 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) participated in practice Friday, Nov. 4, and appears set to return from a one-game absence in Week 9 against the Detroit Lions.

Fantasy Tip: That's the good news. The bad news is he'll return to a different offensive coordinator (Pat Shurmur) and the same ineffective offensive line that hasn't been able to open many holes for any back this season. He'll also likely share carries again with Matt Asiata. Even in what should be a favorable matchup for McKinnon, he should be considered no more than a RB3 this weekend.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon limited in practice

Thu, 03 Nov 2016 19:10:11 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) was listed as a limited participant in practice Thursday, Nov. 3.

Fantasy Tip: If McKinnon is active he'll face a Detroit Lions rush defense ranking 17th in the NFL allowing 110.6 yards per game with three touchdowns. He is worth a look as a flex fantasy option in leagues of 12 or more teams when healthy.

Thu, 03 Nov 2016 11:34:26 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) is participating in practice Thursday, Nov. 3.

Fantasy Tip: It appears McKinnon has a chance to play in Week 9, but owners will need to check on his status later in the week. He probably will split carries with Matt Asiata if he is active and can be a flex option in most leagues.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon expects to play

Wed, 02 Nov 2016 11:24:47 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) said his ankle is feeling better and that he expects to play in Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon was not able to play in the last game, so owners will need to monitor his status during the week. He probably would share work with Matt Asiata if he is active for Week 9 but could still be a low-end No. 2 running back or a flex option for owners.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon ruled out

Sat, 29 Oct 2016 11:44:56 -0700

Updating a previous report, Jerick McKinnon (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 8 versus the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Asiata will get the start and should be receive all the touches he can handle, making him a solid RB2 option in fantasy. Based on projected game script, it is possible Ronnie Hillman could see significant work later in the game, but he still only warrants consideration in the deepest of deep leagues at the moment.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon misses practice Saturday

Sat, 29 Oct 2016 09:24:54 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) did not participate in practice Saturday, Oct. 29, and is not expected to play in Week 8 against the Chicago Bears, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune's Andrew Krammer.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Asiata will most likely serve as the lead back if McKinnon is ruled out before Monday and merits a start in most fantasy leagues, especially with six teams on a bye. Ronnie Hillman may also get a few snaps, but he is well off the fantasy radar barring an injury to Asiata.

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 17:46:03 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) did not participate in practice Friday, Oct. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to check on McKinnon's status later in the week because it looks like he could sit out the team's Week 8 game. He will be a risky option if he is active for the game but could be a flex option.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon sheds walking boot

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 11:03:49 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) is no longer wearing the walking boot he was spotted with Thursday, Oct. 27.

Fantasy Tip: With a Monday Night Football game against the Chicago Bears on the horizon, the Vikings could easily choose to rest McKinnon if they are on the fence about his status. Matt Asiata is shaping up as a solid RB2 with a voluminous workload and should be considered a serviceable RB2 option as a result. Ronnie Hillman could also see some snaps in relief.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon goes nowhere fast

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 16:03:37 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon carried 20 times for just 36 yards in the Week 5 game against the Houston Texans. He also had one catch for 10 yards on three targets.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon was outperformed by Matt Asiata, and could have played himself into a timeshare or a No. 2 role with the poor performance. The team returns in Week 7 after a bye next week.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon fined

Sat, 08 Oct 2016 08:27:06 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon was fined $12,154 by the National Football League for an excessive celebration during Week 4's game against the New York Giants following a touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: Although he collected 85 rushing yards and had three catches versus the Giants, McKinnon should continue to be viewed as a low-end RB2 or flex option for Week 5's game against the Houston Texans.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon posts 95 yards, TD

Mon, 03 Oct 2016 21:02:48 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed 18 times for 85 yards and a touchdown in Week 4 against the New York Giants Monday, Oct. 3, and he added three receptions for 10 yards on five targets.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon and the Vikings rushing offense has struggled all season, but this was a good sign they can move the ball on the ground, as well as through the air. McKinnon is still more of a low-end RB2 or flex fantasy option heading into Week 5 against the Houston Texans.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon on track to play

Sat, 01 Oct 2016 12:34:10 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (toe) fully participated in practice Saturday, Oct. 1, and is not on the injury report for Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon likely will share work with Matt Asiata during the game. He has rushed for only 53 yards over the first three games and should only be considered a flex option in deeper leagues.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon takes part in practice

Fri, 30 Sep 2016 13:52:08 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (toe) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 30.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon should be fine for the team's Week 4 game and will share snaps with Matt Asiata again. He recorded only 47 yards of total offense in Week 3 and will be facing a solid New York Giants defense. McKinnon could be a flex option in leagues but could also be benched if owners have better options.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon has full practice

Thu, 29 Sep 2016 14:24:48 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (toe) participated fully in practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon will be the Vikings' primary running back again this week, but the New York Giants have been stingy against the position so far this year, yielding just 74 rushing yards per game so far. McKinnon shouldn't necessarily be benched, but he's no more than a flex option with a bad matchup and Matt Asiata taking some snaps, too.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon easily has most snaps

Tue, 27 Sep 2016 14:34:00 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon played 35 offensive snaps in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: There's no question McKinnon is the lead back in Minnesota as Matt Asiata only received 19 offensive snaps, but McKinnon didn't do much in his first start after Adrian Peterson's injury. His next opponent, the New York Giants, has been a stalwart versus running backs, too, yielding just 222 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown to running backs through the first three weeks of the season. McKinnon is still a flex option, but not much more than that for Week 4.

Sun, 25 Sep 2016 13:29:20 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed for 45 yards on 16 carries against the Carolina Panthers in Week 3. He also caught one pass for two yards in the game.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon will continue to share work with Matt Asiata even though both struggled in Week 3. McKinnon probably will not be more than a flex option most weeks.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon expected to play

Fri, 23 Sep 2016 17:11:14 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (toe) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 23, and is not on the injury report for Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon will share work with Matt Asiata but is expected to receive a majority of the playing time. He should be considered a No. 2 running back or a flex option in most fantasy leagues.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon a full go

Thu, 22 Sep 2016 19:03:44 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (toe) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 22.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon is expected to be the lead back in the wake of Adrian Peterson's injury. However, a tough matchup against Carolina in Week 3 makes him a flex candidate rather than a RB2.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon practices in full

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 13:27:03 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (toe) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon is expected to receive a majority of the snaps at running back with Adrian Peterson sidelined. McKinnon will be involved in the passing game in addition to the running game and can be a low-end No. 2 running back or a flex option in most leagues.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon will start

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 11:09:02 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon will be the starting running back with RB Adrian Peterson (knee) sidelined. He likely will play at least 60 percent of the snaps. RB Matt Asiata will also receive playing time and likely will handle the goal line carries.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon will be able to help out in the running and passing game over the next few months and should be a popular waiver wire addition. He can be a low-end No. 2 running back or a flex option in leagues. Asiata will also have value and can be a flex option in deeper leagues because of his touchdown potential.

Vikings | Minnesota will split work for backs

Mon, 19 Sep 2016 13:22:06 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RBs Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata could see a 65/35 split between carries if RB Adrian Peterson (knee) misses any time, according to Matt Vensel of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Fantasy Tip: As stated before, McKinnon is the better all-around player and should be picked up this week if Peterson owners are in a tight pinch. Asiata has more value in PPR formats, but he should only be claimed in deeper leagues. If Peterson can't play then McKinnon would slide into low-end RB2 to high-end RB3 territory for Week 3.

Fri, 16 Sep 2016 14:35:45 -0700

Minnesota Vikings DT Sharrif Floyd (knee), TE MyCole Pruitt (knee) and CB Xavier Rhodes (knee) did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 16, and have been ruled out. OT Matt Kalil (hip) was limited during practice and is listed as questionable. C Nick Easton (ankle), TE Rhett Ellison (knee), WR Charles Johnson (quadriceps), LB Eric Kendricks (ankle), RB Jerick McKinnon (foot, leg) and TE Kyle Rudolph (knee) fully participated in practice and are not on the injury report.

Vikings | Three more Vikings have full practice

Thu, 15 Sep 2016 14:53:25 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (foot, fibula), WR Charles Johnson (quadriceps) and TE Kyle Rudolph (knee) were full participants in practice Thursday, Sept. 15.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon needs to continue to warm the bench on fantasy rosters. Rudolph is a sneaky sleeper play as Bradford could look for a safety valve and more high percentage throws in his first start with his new team. Johnson was practically a no show last week and should not be started.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon limited Wednesday

Wed, 14 Sep 2016 14:56:06 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (foot, leg) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon received only two touches in Week 1 and was limited to nine yards. He could receive limited snaps again this week and probably will not be a great option for fantasy owners.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon will play in Week 1

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 09:25:56 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (foot) is officially active for the team's Week 1 game.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon will be a change-of-pace back for the Vikings this week and could be a receiver out of the backfield. He will receive limited touches during the game but could be a flex option in some leagues.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon questionable for Week 1

Fri, 09 Sep 2016 10:40:16 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (foot) will be listed as questionable for the Week 1 game against the Tennessee Titans Sunday, Sept. 11, but he should be "fine," according to head coach Mike Zimmer.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon projects to see plenty of work in the passing game and serve as a change-of-pace back alongside Adrian Peterson. McKinnon is a solid depth option in the majority of leagues and is a potential low-end starter in PPR setups this week. Just note, this game could be low scoring, and McKinnon might not be 100 percent.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon listed as limited

Wed, 07 Sep 2016 17:17:03 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (foot) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 7.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon will be a change-of-pace back if he plays in Week 1 and will also be used as a receiver out of the backfield. He could be a flex option in point-per-reception leagues as well as some deeper mixed leagues.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon leaves practice early

Mon, 01 Aug 2016 18:53:28 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (undisclosed) has been seeing extra work in practice with RB Adrian Peterson (hamstring) sidelined due to injury. However, McKinnon left practice early Monday, Aug. 1, and was tended to on the sidelines by the training staff for an undisclosed injury.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon is a nice handcuff for Peterson owners, and it didn't sound like head coach Mike Zimmer was terribly concerned about his injury. Add McKinnon in the middle to late rounds if you're a Peterson owner, as he is nice insurance should the first-round fantasy pick go down.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon could see bigger role

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 12:12:22 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon could be more involved in the passing game if he was able to improve his pass protection over the offseason. He is not expected to receive more than 75 to 100 carries this season.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon could use his speed in the passing game if he earns more playing time. He probably will see limited touches in the running game unless Adrian Peterson suffers an injury. McKinnon should be considered a late-round option in most leagues but may have more value in point-per-reception leagues.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon could see more snaps

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 08:01:52 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon could see more playing time as the team looks to get more out of the passing game.

Fantasy Tip: One of the first critiques you'll hear about QB Teddy Bridgewater is his ability to throw the ball downfield. It would make sense to throw more screens and short-yardage passes to backs. Adrian Peterson has never been a renowned receiver, and he's probably coming off the field for third down anyway. So it shouldn't affect him too much. McKinnon also has luster due to Peterson's mileage. Look for McKinnon atop the RB5 spectrum.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon should play more

Wed, 02 Mar 2016 16:55:46 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon is expected to have a larger role in 2016 behind RB Adrian Peterson. "I do feel good about McKinnon's role and being able to take some plays off [Peterson] because he's good and also [Matt] Asiata if we get him back," head coach Mike Zimmer said.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon and Asiata didn't see much of the field with Peterson staying healthy throughout the season, but both served a purpose in Minnesota's offense. McKinnon is a more explosive runner while Asiata excels in pass-catching and blocking. McKinnon would have more value if Peterson were to get injured and miss games, though.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon a star in waiting?

Sun, 07 Feb 2016 20:22:08 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon has averaged at least 5.2 yards per carry and at least 83 rushing yards in every game that he has received at least 15 carries.

Fantasy Tip: While Adrian Peterson will be the workhorse in Minnesota as long as he is healthy, McKinnon has too much upside to go undrafted. Stash him on your bench in 2016 just in case Peterson goes down.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon goes off in blowout

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 21:33:40 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed seven times for 89 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Week 16 game against the New York Giants. He added two catches for eight yards.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon posted his first two NFL rushing scores, and had a nice stat line, but his work mostly came after the game was decided. He will remain the backup with Adrian Peterson getting most, if not all, of the touches in the showdown at Lambeau Field in Week 17 for the NFC North Division title.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon probable vs. Giants

Fri, 25 Dec 2015 12:46:01 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (hamstring) was a full participant in practice Friday, Dec. 25, and he is probable for the game against the New York Giants Friday, Dec. 25.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon ($2,500, 5.0) dazzled in the passing game last week after Adrian Peterson ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) was sidelined, but Peterson is probable and expected to carry the load against the Giants. McKinnon cannot be started with confidence in any fantasy format in Week 16.

Vikings | Limited practice for Jerick McKinnon

Thu, 24 Dec 2015 12:11:18 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (hamstring) put in a limited practice Thursday, Dec. 24.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) could see an increased workload this weekend with Adrian Peterson injured, but the backup running back probably won't see enough of a role to be considered a viable deep sleeper pick on FantasyScore, even in this juicy matchup.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon will play against Detroit

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 13:42:23 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) was a full participant in practice Friday, Sept. 18, and is probable for Week 2 against the Detroit Lions.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) only had three carries for 20 yards and two catches for eight yards as Minnesota's offense struggled to find consistency in Week 1. McKinnon's utilizations could easily increase if the Vikes find success on offense, but it's not worth testing on FantasyScore this weekend.

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 14:57:56 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 17.

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) was held to 28 overall yards in the team's Week 1 game and likely will continue to see limited playing time while Adrian Peterson is healthy. He will be facing the Detroit Lions in Week 2, but owners should be able to find better options to use.
