Vikings | Jerick McKinnon held in check

Sun, 25 Sep 2016 13:29:20 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed for 45 yards on 16 carries against the Carolina Panthers in Week 3. He also caught one pass for two yards in the game.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon will continue to share work with Matt Asiata even though both struggled in Week 3. McKinnon probably will not be more than a flex option most weeks.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon expected to play

Fri, 23 Sep 2016 17:11:14 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (toe) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 23, and is not on the injury report for Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon will share work with Matt Asiata but is expected to receive a majority of the playing time. He should be considered a No. 2 running back or a flex option in most fantasy leagues.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon a full go

Thu, 22 Sep 2016 19:03:44 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (toe) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 22.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon is expected to be the lead back in the wake of Adrian Peterson's injury. However, a tough matchup against Carolina in Week 3 makes him a flex candidate rather than a RB2.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon practices in full

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 13:27:03 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (toe) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon is expected to receive a majority of the snaps at running back with Adrian Peterson sidelined. McKinnon will be involved in the passing game in addition to the running game and can be a low-end No. 2 running back or a flex option in most leagues.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon will start

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 11:09:02 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon will be the starting running back with RB Adrian Peterson (knee) sidelined. He likely will play at least 60 percent of the snaps. RB Matt Asiata will also receive playing time and likely will handle the goal line carries.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon will be able to help out in the running and passing game over the next few months and should be a popular waiver wire addition. He can be a low-end No. 2 running back or a flex option in leagues. Asiata will also have value and can be a flex option in deeper leagues because of his touchdown potential.

Vikings | Minnesota will split work for backs

Mon, 19 Sep 2016 13:22:06 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RBs Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata could see a 65/35 split between carries if RB Adrian Peterson (knee) misses any time, according to Matt Vensel of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Fantasy Tip: As stated before, McKinnon is the better all-around player and should be picked up this week if Peterson owners are in a tight pinch. Asiata has more value in PPR formats, but he should only be claimed in deeper leagues. If Peterson can't play then McKinnon would slide into low-end RB2 to high-end RB3 territory for Week 3.

Vikings | Minnesota's Friday injury report

Fri, 16 Sep 2016 14:35:45 -0700

Minnesota Vikings DT Sharrif Floyd (knee), TE MyCole Pruitt (knee) and CB Xavier Rhodes (knee) did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 16, and have been ruled out. OT Matt Kalil (hip) was limited during practice and is listed as questionable. C Nick Easton (ankle), TE Rhett Ellison (knee), WR Charles Johnson (quadriceps), LB Eric Kendricks (ankle), RB Jerick McKinnon (foot, leg) and TE Kyle Rudolph (knee) fully participated in practice and are not on the injury report.

Vikings | Three more Vikings have full practice

Thu, 15 Sep 2016 14:53:25 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (foot, fibula), WR Charles Johnson (quadriceps) and TE Kyle Rudolph (knee) were full participants in practice Thursday, Sept. 15.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon needs to continue to warm the bench on fantasy rosters. Rudolph is a sneaky sleeper play as Bradford could look for a safety valve and more high percentage throws in his first start with his new team. Johnson was practically a no show last week and should not be started.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon limited Wednesday

Wed, 14 Sep 2016 14:56:06 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (foot, leg) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon received only two touches in Week 1 and was limited to nine yards. He could receive limited snaps again this week and probably will not be a great option for fantasy owners.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon will play in Week 1

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 09:25:56 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (foot) is officially active for the team's Week 1 game.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon will be a change-of-pace back for the Vikings this week and could be a receiver out of the backfield. He will receive limited touches during the game but could be a flex option in some leagues.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon questionable for Week 1

Fri, 09 Sep 2016 10:40:16 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (foot) will be listed as questionable for the Week 1 game against the Tennessee Titans Sunday, Sept. 11, but he should be "fine," according to head coach Mike Zimmer.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon projects to see plenty of work in the passing game and serve as a change-of-pace back alongside Adrian Peterson. McKinnon is a solid depth option in the majority of leagues and is a potential low-end starter in PPR setups this week. Just note, this game could be low scoring, and McKinnon might not be 100 percent.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon listed as limited

Wed, 07 Sep 2016 17:17:03 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (foot) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 7.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon will be a change-of-pace back if he plays in Week 1 and will also be used as a receiver out of the backfield. He could be a flex option in point-per-reception leagues as well as some deeper mixed leagues.

Vikings | Several Vikes return to practice

Mon, 05 Sep 2016 20:26:58 -0700

Minnesota Vikings OT Matt Kalil (leg), RB Jerick McKinnon (undisclosed) and CB Xavier Rhodes (hamstring) each returned to practice Monday, Sept. 5, increasing the chances the trio will all be available for the Week 1 game against the Tennessee Titans.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon leaves practice early

Mon, 01 Aug 2016 18:53:28 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (undisclosed) has been seeing extra work in practice with RB Adrian Peterson (hamstring) sidelined due to injury. However, McKinnon left practice early Monday, Aug. 1, and was tended to on the sidelines by the training staff for an undisclosed injury.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon is a nice handcuff for Peterson owners, and it didn't sound like head coach Mike Zimmer was terribly concerned about his injury. Add McKinnon in the middle to late rounds if you're a Peterson owner, as he is nice insurance should the first-round fantasy pick go down.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon could see bigger role

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 12:12:22 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon could be more involved in the passing game if he was able to improve his pass protection over the offseason. He is not expected to receive more than 75 to 100 carries this season.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon could use his speed in the passing game if he earns more playing time. He probably will see limited touches in the running game unless Adrian Peterson suffers an injury. McKinnon should be considered a late-round option in most leagues but may have more value in point-per-reception leagues.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon could see more snaps

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 08:01:52 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon could see more playing time as the team looks to get more out of the passing game.

Fantasy Tip: One of the first critiques you'll hear about QB Teddy Bridgewater is his ability to throw the ball downfield. It would make sense to throw more screens and short-yardage passes to backs. Adrian Peterson has never been a renowned receiver, and he's probably coming off the field for third down anyway. So it shouldn't affect him too much. McKinnon also has luster due to Peterson's mileage. Look for McKinnon atop the RB5 spectrum.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon should play more

Wed, 02 Mar 2016 16:55:46 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon is expected to have a larger role in 2016 behind RB Adrian Peterson. "I do feel good about McKinnon's role and being able to take some plays off [Peterson] because he's good and also [Matt] Asiata if we get him back," head coach Mike Zimmer said.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon and Asiata didn't see much of the field with Peterson staying healthy throughout the season, but both served a purpose in Minnesota's offense. McKinnon is a more explosive runner while Asiata excels in pass-catching and blocking. McKinnon would have more value if Peterson were to get injured and miss games, though.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon a star in waiting?

Sun, 07 Feb 2016 20:22:08 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon has averaged at least 5.2 yards per carry and at least 83 rushing yards in every game that he has received at least 15 carries.

Fantasy Tip: While Adrian Peterson will be the workhorse in Minnesota as long as he is healthy, McKinnon has too much upside to go undrafted. Stash him on your bench in 2016 just in case Peterson goes down.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon goes off in blowout

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 21:33:40 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon rushed seven times for 89 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Week 16 game against the New York Giants. He added two catches for eight yards.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon posted his first two NFL rushing scores, and had a nice stat line, but his work mostly came after the game was decided. He will remain the backup with Adrian Peterson getting most, if not all, of the touches in the showdown at Lambeau Field in Week 17 for the NFC North Division title.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon probable vs. Giants

Fri, 25 Dec 2015 12:46:01 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (hamstring) was a full participant in practice Friday, Dec. 25, and he is probable for the game against the New York Giants Friday, Dec. 25.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon ($2,500, 5.0) dazzled in the passing game last week after Adrian Peterson ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) was sidelined, but Peterson is probable and expected to carry the load against the Giants. McKinnon cannot be started with confidence in any fantasy format in Week 16.

Vikings | Limited practice for Jerick McKinnon

Thu, 24 Dec 2015 12:11:18 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (hamstring) put in a limited practice Thursday, Dec. 24.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) could see an increased workload this weekend with Adrian Peterson injured, but the backup running back probably won't see enough of a role to be considered a viable deep sleeper pick on FantasyScore, even in this juicy matchup.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon will play against Detroit

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 13:42:23 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) was a full participant in practice Friday, Sept. 18, and is probable for Week 2 against the Detroit Lions.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) only had three carries for 20 yards and two catches for eight yards as Minnesota's offense struggled to find consistency in Week 1. McKinnon's utilizations could easily increase if the Vikes find success on offense, but it's not worth testing on FantasyScore this weekend.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon has full practice

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 14:57:56 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 17.

Fantasy Tip: As long as Adrian Peterson is healthy, McKinnon ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) won't be playing a whole lot. You can leave him off your rosters for the time being.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon takes part in practice

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 16:07:24 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) was held to 28 overall yards in the team's Week 1 game and likely will continue to see limited playing time while Adrian Peterson is healthy. He will be facing the Detroit Lions in Week 2, but owners should be able to find better options to use.

Vikings | Five touches for Jerick McKinnon

Mon, 14 Sep 2015 23:06:03 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon had three carries for 20 yards in the Week 1 loss against the San Francisco 49ers, and he added two receptions for eight yards.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) will obviously take a backseat to Adrian Peterson ($7,700, 14.4% of cap) in 2015, but he is still a valuable contributor. Still, it might take an injury to A.P. to warrant using J-Mac in FantasyScore.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon working on protection

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon may be third-down RB

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 12:35:08 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon could see some playing time on third downs with RB Adrian Peterson returning as the starting running back.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon's fantasy value will decrease with Peterson back with the team. McKinnon probably will have more value in point-per-reception leagues since he could be a receiver out of the backfield. McKinnon could be an option in the late rounds of deeper drafts but probably will not be in fantasy lineups much this season.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson working out

Sun, 28 Jun 2015 10:29:29 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson has been working out with RB Jerick McKinnon and WR Mike Wallace since offseason workouts ended.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson appears to be ready to play for the Vikings this season and is preparing for training camp. Peterson should be considered a first-round draft pick and may be one of the safer options available.

Vikings | Minnesota big on Jerick McKinnon

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 19:07:57 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon has the potential to be a "premier, dynamic playmaker" and an NFL-caliber starter, running backs coach Kirby Wilson said Thursday, June 11.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon will likely be the third-down back for the Vikings, giving him some value in PPR leagues. He is also worth owning as a handcuff for Adrian Peterson in deeper leagues, but even in a lead role, he will likely be a boom-or-bust option that relies on breaking a few big plays to produce points.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson impressing teammates

Thu, 04 Jun 2015 16:30:48 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson has impressed his teammates since arriving for organized team activities Tuesday, June 2. CB Captain Munnerlyn was among those who were impressed, "He's in unbelievable shape, like he never lost a step. And he's out to prove a point," said Munnerlyn. RB Jerick McKinnon, who is likely to be dropped down the depth chart due to Peterson's arrival, also had high praises for his teammate, "It's an opportunity to learn from the best running back in the game," McKinnon said.

Fantasy Tip: Despite all of the off-field noise surrounding Peterson in the past year, he remains one of the safest running backs in fantasy football heading into the 2015 season, and he should once again be a heavy favorite for the No. 1 overall selection on draft day.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater working with teammates

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 10:23:26 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater is working out in California with Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph, RB Jerick McKinnon, WR Charles Johnson and TE Brandon Bostick. McKinnon and Rudolph are rooming together at Rudolph's Newport Beach, Calif., home and are taking a no-nonsense approach to their training. Rudolph organized the group event.

Fantasy Tip: The chemistry-building possibilities are encouraging, but any fantasy advice to be gleaned from this situation is realistically useless without knowing the fate of Vikings RB Adrian Peterson. The offense goes as he does.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon healthy

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 10:14:45 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) is fully recovered from back surgery and has left for Southern California to train. He is preparing as though he will be a starting running back but acknowledged the job belongs to Vikings RB Adrian Peterson, provided Peterson returns to the team. McKinnon noted that he needs to learn how to help keep his body healthy. He is working on improving upper-body strength and his endurance, while also trying to better his pass-protection skills.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon is a third-down back and, despite what he may believe, is not cut out for the rigors of an everydown role in the NFL. Regardless of what happens with Peterson, McKinnon figures to be nothing more than a piece of the puzzle for fantasy purposes.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon on the mend

Mon, 16 Feb 2015 05:24:58 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) is close to completing his post-surgery rehab on his back. There have been no setbacks, and McKinnon says he will be ready to participate without any limitations in the offseason workout program, which can begin April 20. McKinnon plans on improving his overall game, but will place an extra emphasis on getting stronger so he can survive a full season of pounding between the tackles, and also pass protection, an area of his game that was subpar in 2014.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon's situation is one of the bigger unknowns at the position. His fantasy value will depend largely on what happens to Adrian Peterson. If Peterson is gone, McKinnon could be a low-end RB2. If Peterson returns, McKinnon is no more than a RB4 in traditional leagues.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon to have surgery

Sat, 06 Dec 2014 12:54:18 -0800

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) will have a procedure on his injured back, according to a source. The recovery period is expected to be eight weeks. He should be good to go before offseason workouts begin. McKinnon was placed on Reserve/Injured Saturday, Dec. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Again, Matt Asiata might be a nice flex option at least this week at a low price of $3,600 on FantasyScore. He, Ben Tate and Joe Banyard will get repetitions out of the backfield with McKinnon done.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon placed on IR

Sat, 06 Dec 2014 12:07:45 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Dec. 6.

Fantasy Tip: This gives added value to RBs Matt Asiata, Ben Tate and Joe Banyard for the remainder of the season, with Asiata likely getting the majority of playing time. Asiata might be worth a look on FantasyScore this week at just $3,600.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon ruled out

Fri, 05 Dec 2014 11:52:50 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) did not participate in practice Friday, Dec. 5, and has been ruled out for Week 14.

Fantasy Tip: With McKinnon ruled out, the team will likely rotate between Matt Asiata and Ben Tate, with the team going with the hot hand. Asiata is probably the better play in FantasyScore this week.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon out again

Thu, 04 Dec 2014 14:24:38 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) did not practice for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 4, and his chances of playing in Week 14 against the New York Jets aren't looking great.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon ($5,300) is an extremely risky option for your Week 14 FantasyScore lineups. If he misses another game, Matt Asiata ($3,600) and Ben Tate ($3,000) should pick up the slack. Asiata is the better fantasy option for daily lineups at a cheap price, but the Jets have a stout defensive front that could limit him on the ground.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon sits

Wed, 03 Dec 2014 13:14:15 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 3.

Fantasy Tip: This is not a good sign for McKinnon's availability this week, but check back later in the week to see if he can get back on the practice field. McKinnon would cost $5,300 in FantasyScore this week.

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) has been declared inactive for Week 13.

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) has officially been listed as doubtful for Week 13. McKinnon has already said that he will not play.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Asiata and Ben Tate figure to see the majority of work out of the backfield with McKinnon out. Asiata's price of $4,100 on FantasyScore could make for a nice flex option in a favorable matchup against the Carolina Panthers.

Fri, 28 Nov 2014 11:08:10 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) said he has been ruled out for Week 13.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Asiata and Ben Tate likely will receive carries this week with Asiata receiving a majority of the work, because he is more familiar with the offense. Asiata costs $4,100 on FantasyScore and could be a nice sleeper option for owners at running back or the flex position.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to check his practice participation Friday, Nov. 28, to see if he makes any progress. McKinnon could share work with Matt Asiata if he is active and may not be the best option to use on FantasyScore at $5,400.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon misses practice

Wed, 26 Nov 2014 15:08:39 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 26.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon saw the bulk of the carries in Week 12 with Matt Asiata (concussion) out, and that should be the case again in Week 13 against the Carolina Panthers. However, the workload could be split more evenly between Asiata and Tate if Asiata returns, making McKinnon's $5,400 FantasyScore price a bit sketchy.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon probable

Fri, 21 Nov 2014 14:15:48 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) was limited in practice Friday, Nov. 21, and is probable.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon will get the start this week, but there is risk here, especially f the Vikings fall behind early and have to throw the ball a lot. There are probably better options available to you in FantasyScore this week.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon limited in practice

Thu, 20 Nov 2014 14:27:04 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) was limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Offensive coordinator has already said McKinnon will keep his starting role even with RB Ben Tate now in town. The risk with McKinnon and all the Minnesota Vikings running backs, and why they're risky plays this week, is that they'll have to pass a lot if they fall behind to the Green Bay Packers.

Comment (0) | Share: Tweet!Share on Facebook | Source: Vikings.com

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon still the lead back

Thu, 20 Nov 2014 10:52:53 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) will retain the lead-back role, even after the team claimed RB Ben Tate off waivers from the Cleveland Browns Wednesday, Nov. 19, according to offensive coordinator Norv Turner. Turner said Tate was brought in for insurance because both McKinnon and RB Matt Asiata (concussion) were dealing with injuries this week. McKinnon said he will be ready for Week 12 against the Green Bay Packers. However, Asiata's status is in doubt. "We're excited about Jerick and what he's done and I see him as our running back," Turner said. "He's been limited in practice last week and couldn't practice (Wednesday) So you got to protect yourself, obviously with Matt not being able to practice (Wednesday) and in doubt as to whether he'll play or not."

Fantasy Tip: The real loser of the Tate signing has to be Asiata. McKinnon ($5,400) should play against the Packers, but how much will the Vikes run if they fall behind big early? Tate ($4,900) looks to be part of another committee, but he'll have better chance for fantasy success in his new digs. Consider him a flex option at FantasyScore.

Vikings | Ben Tate gives Vikes depth

Wed, 19 Nov 2014 14:07:02 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Ben Tate gives the team much-needed depth at the running back position, with RBs Jerick McKinnon (back) and Matt Asiata (concussion) both missing practice Wednesday, Nov. 19. McKinnon leads the team with 484 yards and a 4.9 yards per carry average, while Asiata has six rushing touchdowns and a one receiving TD, but he has just 3.3 yards per carry.

Fantasy Tip: Tate ($4,900) could become part of another three-headed monster in Minnesota, but one would think he'd have a better shot at fantasy success this time around, especially with McKinnon ($5,400) and Asiata ($4,100) injured this week. Tate could wind up starting this weekend against the Green Bay Packers, but this backfield could be a crapshoot at FantasyScore, especially if the Packers get out to an early lead.

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (back) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon was able to play in Week 11 despite the injury, so he may just be resting the back. McKinnon could be a running back or flex option this week and costs $5,400 on FantasyScore.
