49ers | Jerick McKinnon suffers minor injury

Fri, 01 Jun 2018 16:17:15 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Jerick McKinnon (ankle) was limited during practice Wednesday, May 30, because of an ankle injury.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon probably will be back on the field next week or during the mandatory minicamp. McKinnon is expected to have a big role for the 49ers this upcoming season and has a chance to be at least a No. 2 fantasy running back in all leagues.

49ers | Jerick McKinnon settling in nicely

Tue, 22 May 2018 17:08:38 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Jerick McKinnon caught several passes out of the backfield from Jimmy Garoppolo and looked "very comfortable," according to the Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows.

Fantasy Tip: Perhaps the most interesting nugget from Barrows was his prediction for McKinnon's catch total, which he set the over/under at 73 - the same number Devonta Freeman had in his breakout season (2015) under then-offensive coordinator (and current San Francisco head coach) Kyle Shanahan. It's an ambitious number, but it is also a realistic one for a player as gifted in the passing game as McKinnon. If he proves he can hold up to the workload, McKinnon could push for a top-five finish at running back in fantasy.

49ers | Jerick McKinnon training hard

Sat, 31 Mar 2018 20:10:44 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Jerick McKinnon has been training at a facility owned by free-agent RB Adrian Peterson (Cardinals).

Fantasy Tip: San Francisco paid McKinnon a lot of money this offseason, and Kyle Shanahan has already said he thinks McKinnon can be an every-down back. The arrow is pointing up, and he looks like a RB2 candidate, especially in PPR formats.

49ers | Jerick McKinnon a man for every down

Tue, 27 Mar 2018 09:53:49 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Jerick McKinnon continued to receive praise from head coach Kyle Shanahan, who suggested McKinnon can play well on every down after receiving a four-year, $30 million contract earlier this month in free agency. "We think he's a great third-down back. We also think he's good on first and second down, too," Shanahan said.

Fantasy Tip: While some in the fantasy community have jumped on McKinnon's bandwagon with both feet, others are wondering how a third-down back in Minnesota could all the sudden become a three-down workhorse. Matt Breida will obviously see his fair share of work in relief, but San Francisco did not hand the former Minnesota Viking the fourth-richest contract for a running back to work in a split committee. McKinnon's arrow is pointing straight up for fantasy, and he figures to be worthy second-round pick this summer.

49ers | Jerick McKinnon poised for big role

Fri, 16 Mar 2018 12:58:47 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Jerick McKinnon is expected to take on a similar role to the one Devonta Freeman enjoyed from 2015-16 under head coach Kyle Shanahan when Shanahan was the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon is perhaps free agency's biggest winner in terms of fantasy value. In each of Shanahan’s two seasons as Falcons offensive coordinator, Freeman accounted for more than 1,500 yards from scrimmage. Matt Breida is tentatively expected to fill the Tevin Coleman role. McKinnon should be treated as a RB2 with RB1 upside in 2018, while Breida should be considered a high-upside flex option.

49ers | HC looking forward to using Jerick McKinnon

Thu, 15 Mar 2018 20:35:39 -0700

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said "there's so many things" he likes about RB Jerick McKinnon, adding that he got "lost" while immersing himself in watching his game film. "This guy is violent, doesn't turn anything down," Shanahan said. "What is a huge bonus on him is when you talk about the pass game. When it comes to separating and beating linebackers and safeties in man-to-man coverage, I definitely think he's an issue for teams."

Fantasy Tip: Shanahan is sold on McKinnon, which bodes well for his fantasy outlook in 2018. Fantasy circles have long envisioned a breakout from the former Vikings tailback, and while that hasn't exactly materialized yet, it could be this change of scenery for it to finally come to fruition. With Carlos Hyde gone, McKinnon might be in position to claim the starting gig, though Matt Breida impressed last year and also figures to see a lot of work.

He has a $6.9 million option bonus for the 2021 league year to be exercised prior to the end of the 2020 league year.

Buccaneers | Jerick McKinnon on Tampa Bay's radar

Tue, 13 Mar 2018 10:54:18 -0700

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent RB Jerick McKinnon has reportedly been receiving steady interest from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon typically played well for the Vikings when given the chance, but never seemed to win them over. Tampa Bay is one of the few spots where he would have a legitimate shot to earn the starting job or compete for a lead-back role at the very least, assuming the Bucs don't also use a high pick at running back in the draft. McKinnon would be in the flex discussion if Tampa Bay seals the deal.
