49ers | Jerick McKinnon out until Week 1

Fri, 17 Aug 2018 08:06:04 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Jerick McKinnon (calf) will be out the rest of the preseason, according to general manager John Lynch.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon is a useful dual-threat RB, but he has never been the go-to guy for long. He's a low-end RB2 but a bargain if he falls to the RB3 territory due to the injury.

49ers | Good news for Jerick McKinnon

Sun, 12 Aug 2018 15:41:13 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers RB Jerick McKinnon's (knee) MRI showed only a muscle strain in his knee, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon probably will miss some time, but it appears like he should be ready for the regular season. He received a lucrative contract this offseason and should be the team's main running back in 2018. He can be considered a No. 2 running back in all leagues since he should be involved in the running and passing game.

49ers | Jerick McKinnon not featured?

Thu, 09 Aug 2018 09:13:20 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Jerick McKinnon may not be used as a bell-cow running back, according to ESPN.com's Dan Graziano. Graziano posits that there will be weeks when RB Matt Breida plays on early downs.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon isn't really a bell-cow type anyway, although he will receive most of the touches out of San Francisco's backfield. Breida is seemingly underrated and worth a look in later rounds, if not only as a McKinnon handcuff. The latter remains a low-end RB1 to high-end RB2 in PPR scoring.

49ers | Jerick McKinnon flashing as receiver

Tue, 31 Jul 2018 18:08:44 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Jerick McKinnon's chemistry with Jimmy Garoppolo appears to be "on point," according to Joe Fann of 49ers.com.

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon's supporters contend he's an incredible athlete who was somewhat misused and underutilized with Minnesota Vikings. His critics point to an ability to a low career yards-per-carry average and an inability to secure feature-back duties in Minnesota despite being granted several opportunities to do so. If owners merely set their expectations around what Christian McCaffrey did in 2017 plus about 50 to 75 carries, they should have a good idea of what McKinnon could do this season.

Fri, 01 Jun 2018 16:17:15 -0700

Fantasy Tip: McKinnon probably will be back on the field next week or during the mandatory minicamp. McKinnon is expected to have a big role for the 49ers this upcoming season and has a chance to be at least a No. 2 fantasy running back in all leagues.

49ers | Jerick McKinnon settling in nicely

Tue, 22 May 2018 17:08:38 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Jerick McKinnon caught several passes out of the backfield from Jimmy Garoppolo and looked "very comfortable," according to the Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows.

Fantasy Tip: Perhaps the most interesting nugget from Barrows was his prediction for McKinnon's catch total, which he set the over/under at 73 - the same number Devonta Freeman had in his breakout season (2015) under then-offensive coordinator (and current San Francisco head coach) Kyle Shanahan. It's an ambitious number, but it is also a realistic one for a player as gifted in the passing game as McKinnon. If he proves he can hold up to the workload, McKinnon could push for a top-five finish at running back in fantasy.

49ers | Jerick McKinnon training hard

Sat, 31 Mar 2018 20:10:44 -0700

San Francisco 49ers RB Jerick McKinnon has been training at a facility owned by free-agent RB Adrian Peterson (Cardinals).

Fantasy Tip: San Francisco paid McKinnon a lot of money this offseason, and Kyle Shanahan has already said he thinks McKinnon can be an every-down back. The arrow is pointing up, and he looks like a RB2 candidate, especially in PPR formats.
