Jaguars | Jacksonville seeking QB options

Sun, 11 Mar 2018 11:52:39 -0700

The Jacksonville Jaguars are "heavily interested" in finding a veteran who can "push" QB Blake Bortles this offseason or take over for him if he "falls off a cliff," according to the Boston Globe's Ben Volin.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles signed a new three-year, $54 million contract that includes $26.5 million guaranteed last month and seems to have the front office's support, but the fact remains Jacksonville spent most of last season hoping he would just manage the game. The Jaguars would be wise to seek an upgrade to Chad Henne because it's not hard to imagine a scenario in which Bortles struggles for a stretch next season.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles in rare company

Mon, 26 Feb 2018 16:00:03 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles has thrown for 90 career passing touchdowns and just under 15,000 passing yards. Former NFL QBs Peyton Manning, Dan Marino and Drew Bledsoe and Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford are the only quarterbacks in NFL history to achieve those numbers before turning 26 years old. Bortles turns 26 in April.

Fantasy Tip: It's a strange world we live in when we can mention Bortles' name positively in the same sentence as Peyton Manning and Dan Marino. And while technically Bortles is not a part of that list since he has not reached 15,000 yards yet, he's practically there. Coming off an unsung season and after just signing a big contract extension, Bortles is an underrated potential QB1.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles receives new deal

Sat, 24 Feb 2018 16:30:09 -0800

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles agreed to a new three-year contract with the Jaguars Saturday, Feb. 24, worth $54 million, according to a source. The deal includes $26.5 million in guaranteed money and could be worth as much as $66.5 million with incentives.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles improved his play in 2017 and will have most of his receivers back next season. He should be at least a No. 2 fantasy quarterback in most leagues and has a chance to low-end No. 1 quarterback in some deeper leagues.

Jaguars | Replacement for Blake Bortles?

Fri, 23 Feb 2018 18:47:26 -0800

The Jacksonville Jaguars are actively pursuing upgrades to QB Blake Bortles, according to a league source.

Fantasy Tip: If Bortles ends up entering 2018 as the starter, he's a worthwhile fantasy backup. He has topped 20 touchdowns in each of the last three seasons and is sneaky effective as a runner.

Jaguars | Competition for Blake Bortles?

Sun, 11 Feb 2018 19:24:43 -0800

The Jacksonville Jaguars could select a quarterback in the first or second round of the 2018 NFL Draft to provide competition for QB Blake Bortles, according Mike DiRocco of ESPN.com.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles' long-term future with the Jaguars remains in doubt, but he should at least be a quality QB2 in 2018. He has thrown more than 20 touchdowns in each of the last three seasons and has topped 300 rushing yards in all four years in the league.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles expected to stay

Tue, 30 Jan 2018 13:22:48 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (wrist) is expected to remain with the Jaguars despite recently undergoing surgery on his injured wrist, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Rapoport said the plan all along has been for Bortles to return as starter.

Fantasy Tip: The Jaguars have to be tempted to draft a quarterback in such a deep draft class, but Bortles improved in 2017 and quarterbacked Jacksonville to the AFC Championship. He has his fair share of mistakes, which he cut back on last season, but Bortles is an underrated fantasy quarterback thanks in no small part to his running ability.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles undergoes wrist surgery

Mon, 29 Jan 2018 20:56:01 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (wrist) had surgery on his right wrist Friday, Jan. 26, for a condition that had bothered him since December of 2016, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: As a first-round pick entering his fifth season, the surgery leaves Bortles in even more limbo, as his fifth-year club option is only guaranteed for injury. Bortles' place on the roster was already tenuous given the likelihood of quarterbacks such as Kirk Cousins and Alex Smith expected to be available and the Jaguars' new status as a place potentially available quarterbacks will want to go. At the moment, it's looking like Bortles may not be on the Jacksonville roster when the middle of March rolls around.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles wants to stay

Mon, 22 Jan 2018 14:47:39 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said he would be "thrilled" to remain with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The fourth-year quarterback will be an impending free agent in 2019.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles did his part in leading the Jaguars to the AFC Championship. His numbers don't jump off the chart, but he made fewer mistakes than in previous years. His running ability makes him an underrated fantasy quarterback.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles falls short of Super Bowl

Sun, 21 Jan 2018 15:33:41 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles completed 23-of-36 passes for 293 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in the AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots on Sunday, Jan. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles and his teammates were outscored 14-3 in the decisive fourth quarter to derail their chances at a first Super Bowl appearance, but it was a great season for the Jags. He finished the regular season with a 60.2 completion percentage, 3,687 yards and 21 touchdowns with 13 interceptions. As such, he'll be in the low-end QB1 fantasy discussion in larger leagues, but he should mostly be a QB2 in most formats.

Fantasy Tip: There's a lot on Bortles' shoulders heading into the AFC Championship. He'll need to be mistake-free in order for the Jaguars to upset the New England Patriots. He'll be a borderline QB1, largely thanks to his running ability, going into the 2018 fantasy year.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles much worse on road

Mon, 15 Jan 2018 16:40:59 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles has averaged just 193 passing yards in away games this season while throwing six touchdowns and eight interceptions in those contests.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles and the Jaguars will be in Massachusetts this weekend in their toughest test of the year against the New England Patriots. The up-and-down quarterback has often been a weak link for the Jaguars, but has done enough to help get them to this point. That being said, he's not a legitimate QB1 candidate for next season but is capable of QB1 weeks.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles wins playoff road game

Sun, 14 Jan 2018 14:49:47 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles completed 14 of his 26 pass attempts for 214 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in the AFC Divisional Round playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Jan. 14. He also ran five times for 35 yards.

Fantasy Tip: It wasn't pretty, although a vast improvement over last weekend, and it doesn't matter. The Jaguars have won two straight playoff games and will head to Foxboro to meet the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game. Bortles might be able to move the ball against a Patriots pass defense which struggled earlier in the season.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles takes part in practice

Thu, 11 Jan 2018 12:22:42 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (wrist) fully participated in practice Thursday, Jan. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles is coming off a disappointing Wild Card playoff game and will be facing a solid Pittsburgh Steelers defense for the second time this season. He was not asked to do much in the team's win over the Steelers during the regular season but probably will have to be more productive during the Divisional Round game. Owners in most fantasy leagues should be able to find better options for their lineups.

Jaguars | Full practice for Blake Bortles

Wed, 10 Jan 2018 13:47:50 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (wrist) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Jan. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles looked like the Bortles of 2014 and 2016 in the Jaguars' wild-card win last week. He'll be in a raucous, hostile atmosphere in a playoff game on the road against a quality Pittsburgh Steelers defense, so don't bet on him making up for last week's dismal output.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles is coming off one of the best games of his career in Week 13, but don't be surprised if he comes back down to earth this week versus the Seattle Seahawks.
