Fantasy Tip: Bortles has been on the injury report for the last few weeks but has been able to play. He has been held for under 200 yards in each of the last two games and has thrown 15 interceptions in 12 games this season. He probably should not be used in any leagues.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles cold in Week 13

Sun, 04 Dec 2016 13:39:28 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles was picked off two times, once by Denver Broncos DB Bradley Roby for a pick-six touchdown, in a 20-10 loss. This is the third time in four games Bortles has thrown a pick-six.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles saw 23 of his 42 passes fall incomplete and finished with 181 yards. If you are using Bortles as a QB1 in your fantasy leagues, chances are you are out of playoff contention. He's best used as a QB2 or lower. This week's game was against a top defense.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (shoulder) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 2, and is not on the injury report for Week 13.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles will be down a few targets this week but will still have a solid group of receivers. He has posted some solid numbers over the last several games but probably should be kept on the bench because he is facing a tough Denver Broncos defense.

Jaguars | Full practice for Blake Bortles

Thu, 01 Dec 2016 17:53:49 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (shoulder) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles' big games have been few and far between this season, and he should be left on the bench in Week 13 against a stingy Denver secondary.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles leads team in rushing

Sun, 27 Nov 2016 18:42:11 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (shoulder) completed 13 of his 26 pass attempts for 126 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 12 game against the Buffalo Bills. He also ran eight times for a team-high 81 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles entered the week dealing with a right shoulder issue, and perhaps that was the reason he was a bit inaccurate and had an inability to throw it down the field. Still, he helped fantasy owners with two TD strikes and the rushing yardage.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles should be fine for the game and will see his normal workload against the Buffalo Bills. He has thrown nine touchdowns and four interceptions over the last four games and has recorded at least 250 yards in three of those games. Bortles can be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues but probably will be passed over in most standard leagues.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles to start again Week 12

Mon, 21 Nov 2016 11:41:01 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (shoulder) is expected to play after battling through a shoulder injury in a Week 11 loss to the Detroit Lions.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles played all but one snap Sunday. As has become his trademark, he turned in another decent day in fantasy but played a below-average game in reality. Garbage-time production has saved Bortles a number of times this season and made him a passable QB2 when his actual play should be getting him benched on a regular basis. With the bye-week crunch mostly over, owners should be able to move on from him.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles tosses two TDs

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 17:49:26 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (shoulder) completed 22 of his 35 pass attempts for 202 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the Week 11 game against the Detroit Lions. He also rushed once for three yards. He banged up his shoulder and was treated on the sidelines before returning.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles has tossed at least two touchdowns in each of his past four games, and he has at least one TD in each of his 10 starts this season. He remains a solid low-end QB1 in all fantasy formats heading into Week 12 against the Buffalo Bills

Jaguars | Blake Bortles to remain starter

Mon, 14 Nov 2016 11:11:17 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles is in no danger of losing his starting job, according to head coach Gus Bradley.

Fantasy Tip: At this point, it would be more than fair to say both men are playing for their jobs to some degree. Bortles continues to post very useful fantasy totals on the strength of garbage-time stats and extreme volume despite playing dreadful football in reality. The third-year pro should remain in the low-end QB1 conversation in Week 11, as he'll face one of the softest pass defenses in the league in the Detroit Lions.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles uneven in loss

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 14:59:39 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles threw a pick six in the first quarter and lost a fumble against the Houston Texans in Week 10. He settled down to throw two touchdowns and 265 yards on 32-for-49 passing.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles tends to offer decent fantasy stats in garbage time but will cost you points with his penchant for turnovers. The Jaguars travel to the Detroit Lions in Week 11 for what is a statistically sound matchup to exploit.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles throws two TDs

Sun, 06 Nov 2016 14:34:46 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles went 22-for-41 for 252 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles has thrown for at least two touchdowns in five of his eight starts but has also struggled with interceptions this season. He is scheduled to face the Houston Texans in Week 10 and can be a low-end No. 1 quarterback for owners.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles fixing mechanics

Sat, 05 Nov 2016 19:07:09 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles worked with his personal passing coach Monday, Oct. 31, and Tuesday, Nov. 1, to help fix his sloppy mechanics.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles has regressed after tossing 35 touchdowns last season, and he should be viewed as a QB2 in Week 9 against Kansas City's opportunistic secondary.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles pads stats late

Thu, 27 Oct 2016 21:20:49 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles completed 33 of his 54 passes for a season-high 337 yards and three touchdowns, all in the second half, in a 36-22 loss to the Tennessee Titans Thursday, Oct. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles padded his stats after the game was out of reach, but his fantasy owners won't complain. Garbage time points still count, and Jacksonville's suspect defense should have Bortles throwing early and often all year.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles gets vote of confidence

Mon, 24 Oct 2016 19:06:04 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles has struggled this season, and after his worst performance of the season head coach Gus Bradley gave his quarterback a vote of confidence. "I firmly, firmly believe in Blake Bortles," Bradley said Monday, Oct. 24. "Without a doubt. I think it was a challenging day yesterday about some of the situations we were in, but as far as the competitor…and what he brings to this team, there is no about."

Fantasy Tip: Bortles entered the season as a Top 10 fantasy option at his position, but so far he has taken a step back after a breakout 2015 and is well on pace for lower touchdown passes and slightly fewer yards. He is more of a high-end QB2 and bye-week replacement at this point until he turns things around.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles doesn't do much

Sun, 23 Oct 2016 20:27:19 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles completed 23 of his 43 pass attempts for 246 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in the Week 7 game against the Oakland Raiders. He also ran five times for 33 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles threw for 4,428 yards with 35 touchdowns in 16 games last season, but slightly off that yardage pace this season, and well off the mark in terms of touchdowns. He should still be treated as a low-end QB1 in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams, but adding depth at the position isn't a bad idea at this point.

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 14:32:51 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles went 20-for-33 for 271 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Chicago Bears in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles has thrown eight touchdowns in the first five games of the season but he has also thrown seven interceptions in that span. He does have weapons to work with in the passing game and could be a decent starting option next week against the Oakland Raiders.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles went 19-for-33 for 207 yards and two touchdowns against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4. He also rushed for 36 yards and one touchdown on seven carries.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles has thrown two touchdowns in each of the last three games and went without an interception for the first time this season. Bortles has the weapons to work with on offense and can be a starting fantasy quarterback against certain matchups.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles feasted on Colts

Fri, 30 Sep 2016 05:38:23 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles had 548 yards and four touchdowns in two games against the Indianapolis Colts last season.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles has thrown for 843 yards in three games, but he has thrown six interceptions to just five touchdowns. He's a low-end QB1 with a good matchup this week.

Sun, 25 Sep 2016 14:52:21 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles went 24-for-38 for 194 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3. He also rushed for 17 yards on three carries during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles has thrown six interceptions in his first three games but also has five touchdowns during that span. He is scheduled to face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4 and should be a decent No. 1 quarterback for fantasy owners.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles sharp in brief action

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 21:04:37 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles completed eight of his 11 pass attempts for 85 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 20, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles connected with Allen Hurns and T.J. Yeldon on touchdown strikes, and he certainly looks like he is ready to take another step forward. As long as Allen Robinson, Hurns and Julius Thomas can stay healthy, Bortles will be a solid QB1 in all fantasy formats.

Jaguars | Coach happy with Blake Bortles

Sat, 06 Aug 2016 05:55:49 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley has been happy with QB Blake Bortles even though he has completed only 56.9% of his passes with four interceptions during team drills. "I've been very, very pleased with Blake; very excited about him," Bradley said. "He has a stronger command of the offense and he's playing with good poise. If there's a mistake made, he reacts quicker to it and recovers quicker from it."

Fantasy Tip: Bortles is coming off a terrific 2015 season when he posted 4,428 yards and 35 touchdowns. He will have plenty of weapons to work with in the passing game and should be a solid No. 1 quarterback in all fantasy leagues.

Sun, 31 Jul 2016 18:23:43 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles is "owning" the offense more this year, head coach Gus Bradley said Sunday, July 31.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles is coming off a big season, and he has plenty of weapons at his disposal in the passing game. He is firmly in the QB1 conversation.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles liked to go deep

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 10:27:06 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles was tied for first with Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers in completions of at least 25 yards (39), and he was ninth in completions (355), sixth in attempts (606) and seventh in yards (4,428). However, Bortles also had 23 total turnovers in 2015, only a 58.6 completion percentage and took 51 sacks.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles made big strides last year with Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns also taking the next step in production. The Jacksonville offense is expected to continue improving, too, which is a scary thought. Bortles, if he stays healthy, should be a legitimate QB1 worth taking a look at in the early middle rounds.

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 14:12:47 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles talked with Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer this offseason to see how he could improve his play.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles is coming off a solid 2015 season and will have one of the better wide receiver groups to work with in the NFL. Owners should consider Bortles as a low-end No. 1 quarterback in most leagues.

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 14:00:40 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles will receive a contract extension as soon as the collective bargaining agreement allows the Jaguars to sign him in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles recorded 4,428 yards, 35 touchdowns and 18 interceptions in 2015 and will have all of his top receivers back this season. He should be a solid starting quarterback in all fantasy leagues.

Jaguars | Rashad Greene starting in slot

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 19:18:53 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Rashad Greene has seen a majority of his reps as the first-team slot receiver, and he said he and QB Blake Bortles are becoming more comfortable working with each other.

Fantasy Tip: Greene figures to be the fourth option in a loaded Jacksonville passing attack. His value is limited to deeper PPR formats.

Jaguars | Julius Thomas busy at OTAs

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 19:52:37 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas' situation is much more stable this season, as he and QB Blake Bortles are building rapport during the offseason program. "Julius looks good," offensive coordinator Greg Olson said Monday, June 6. "Guys that have been here have been relatively healthy and Julius has been one of those guys, so he's been able to get a lot of reps and a lot of work in so far."

Fantasy Tip: Thomas has posted 29 touchdowns over the past three seasons, which is even more than Seattle's Jimmy Graham and New England's Rob Gronkowski during the same span. If Thomas can stay healthy he is a tremendous sleeper for fantasy owners in the middle rounds on draft day.

Jaguars | Faster pace for Jacksonville offense?

Sat, 04 Jun 2016 10:16:13 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles and the Jacksonville offense have been practicing more of a no-huddle offense this offseason. Offensive coordinator Greg Olson said the coaching staff felt like Bortles felt comfortable with the two-minute offense and they wanted to use more of that.

Fantasy Tip: Even if the Jaguars use a more fast paced offense, Bortles is almost certainly due for a worse season to some degree. It will be difficult to match or exceed his the 4,428 yards and 35 touchdowns he threw for a year ago, not to mention an ideally more established run game with T.J. Yeldon and Chris Ivory. Bortles is in low-end QB1 territory entering the 2016 season.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles meets with Julius Thomas

Fri, 27 May 2016 13:53:34 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said he met with TE Julius Thomas multiple times this offseason because he wants the same chemistry with Thomas that he had last year. "We had a chance this offseason to sit down multiple times, watch film and talk about things," Bortles said. "Talk about what he wanted from me and what I wanted from him and how we can quickly get on the same page to grow together."

Fantasy Tip: Bortles is coming off a solid 2015 season and will have plenty of weapons to work with this upcoming season. Thomas missed four games because of injury but was still able to record 455 yards and five touchdowns. Bortles should be considered a starting candidate in most leagues, while Thomas could be a low-end No. 1 tight end in some deeper leagues.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles in better situation

Sun, 15 May 2016 11:36:33 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles will be able to jump into offseason work right away on his own because he knows the offense now, as opposed to last year when he waiting for instruction, according to offensive coordinator Greg Olson.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles really improved in his sophomore season last year, throwing for over 4,400 yards and 35 touchdowns en route to high-end QB1 status. He still has to work on throwing fewer interceptions, but he's a QB1 candidate again this season.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles happy with new center

Fri, 13 May 2016 18:32:16 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said it was a good move to have OG Brandon Linder take over the starting center spot, and Bortles said Linder has been doing well with the transition.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles already has plenty of weapons to throw to, and his numbers should only improve if Jacksonville can sure up its offensive line. Unless you play in a format that greatly penalizes interceptions, Bortles should be viewed a QB1 candidate.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles excited about Marqise Lee

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 21:31:02 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said it has been hard to build chemistry with WR Marqise Lee because of all Lee's injuries, but he said the receiver brings something special to the table.

Fantasy Tip: Lee has explosive ability, but even when healthy, he now finds himself a part of a crowded receiving corps. At best, he is a late-round lottery ticket at this point.

Jaguars | Bigger role for Julius Thomas?

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 21:19:17 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas is the best pass-catching tight end in the NFL, according to WR Allen Robinson, and QB Blake Bortles expects to have better chemistry with Thomas in their second year together.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas showed flashes of his upside down the stretch last season, and if he can stay healthy, which is no guarantee, he should be a top-five fantasy tight end.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles' development to go faster

Tue, 26 Jan 2016 12:33:19 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles will have his development accelerated, according to offensive coordinator Greg Olson, who said he and the Jaguars are comfortable enough with the quarterback to do so.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles is coming off a 35-touchdown season, and definitely made improvements in his sophomore campaign. He still threw 18 interceptions, but the upside is obvious. He may still not be a solidified starting fantasy quarterback, butting he's getting there.

NFL | Paxton Lynch compared to Blake Bortles

Sat, 23 Jan 2016 20:55:13 -0800

Former University of Memphis QB Paxton Lynch is being trained by former Univeristy of Central Florida offensive coordinator Charlie Taaffe, and Taaffe said Lynch has a stronger arm than Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles, who played for Central Florida when Taaffe was the coordinator.

Fantasy Tip: Lynch is expected to be one of the first quarterbacks selected in the 2016 NFL Draft, and while he has excellent physical tools, there may be a bit of an adjustment period as he learns to play under center.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles tops in interceptions

Tue, 05 Jan 2016 16:42:54 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles led all quarterbacks this season with 18 interceptions.

Fantasy Tip: Peyton Manning may have led the league in picks if he had played the whole season, but Bortles still showed his sometimes erratic quarterback play despite an otherwise solid sophomore season. He did throw for 4,428 yards and 35 touchdowns, but he must cut down on the interceptions if he wants to become a consistent QB1 as his career gets going.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles has broken thumb

Tue, 05 Jan 2016 10:32:30 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles (thumb) suffered a broken thumb on his non-throwing hand in Week 17.

Fantasy Tip: Thankfully for any Bortles owners, this comes as the season winds down. Bortles and the Jaguars passing game broke out in 2015, and he finished as a top-five fantasy passer. His thumb should be healed in plenty of time for next year, and he'll be squarely in the discussion as a legitimate QB1 in fantasy drafts.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles completed 17 of his 32 pass attempts for 239 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in the Week 17 game against the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles will certainly have better days, as is evidenced from his season total of 4,428 yards and 35 touchdowns. He will be a certain Top 10 fantasy option at his position heading into 2016 after going mostly undrafted in standard fantasy formats in 2015.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles went 23-for-38 for 297 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 15. He also rushed for 44 yards and one touchdown on six carries during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles has thrown for nine touchdowns in his last three games and at least 250 yards in each of his last four games. He will be facing the New Orleans Saints in Week 16 and could be a sleeper option for owners in most leagues.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles has four second-half scores

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 14:38:49 -0800

Fantasy Tip: Bortles ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) played perhaps his best game in his short Jaguars career. Bortles is actually a decent FantasyScore pickup and the Jaguars are no longer the league's bottom feeder.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles has thrown at least two touchdowns in seven of the past eight games, and nine of the past 11. The 300-yard game was his second straight, and fifth time in the past eight starts. He has emerged as a must-start FantasyScore option heading into next week's game against the Indianapolis Colts and their shaky secondary.

Jaguars | Allen Robinson, Bortles top deep combo

Mon, 30 Nov 2015 14:40:56 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles leads the NFL with 50 completions of 20 yards or more, while Jaguars WR Allen Robinson is tops in the NFL with 21 catches of 20 yards or more.

Fantasy Tip: Robinson and Blake Bortles have become one of the best deep-threat combinations in all the NFL. They're still young and still have improvements to make, but the future is bright for the Jacksonville offense. Bortles and Robinson face an average pass defense in the Tennessee Titans next week. Bortles is not the most reliable fantasy quarterback, but he's still worth a look on FantasyScore for Week 13. Robinson played very well against the Titans in their first meeting this year; he should be regarded as a WR2 this week.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles stills shows signs of being a second-year quarterback, but he has still improved greatly compared to his rookie season. He shouldn't be considered a top starting option this week, though, against San Diego Chargers defense that has defended the pass well this year.

Jaguars | Mixed numbers for Blake Bortles

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 14:35:06 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles was 22 of 45 for 188 yards and two touchdowns Sunday, Nov. 15, as the Jaguars scored a 22-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) wasn't overly impressive, but he got the job done well enough to help Jacksonville win. Still, he has thrown an interception in five straight games and had nearly 400 yards against the New York Jets the week before. He just has to do a better job.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles to be a nice sleeper?

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 22:58:29 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles might be a nice sleeper heading into Week 10 against the Baltimore Ravens, a pass defense which ranks 29th in the NFL by allowing 283.9 yards per game through the air. The Ravens have given up 33 pass plays of 20 or more yards, and eight pass plays of 40 or more yards.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) has slowly been shedding the stigma of being the Jacksonville quarterback, and is getting props from FantasyScore players for his decent stat lines. Plus, having a strong cadre of receivers like Allen Hurns ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) and Allen Robinson ($7,700, 15.4% of cap) doesn't hurt.
