Jaguars | Blake Bortles struggles with turnovers

Wed, 21 Jun 2017 11:35:45 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles has committed 63 turnovers over the last three seasons, which is the most in the NFL. His 51 interceptions during that span ranks second among quarterbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles has thrown at least 16 interceptions in all three seasons since joining the NFL but has also thrown 58 touchdowns over the last two seasons. Bortles is a risky option for owners because of his turnovers and probably should be considered a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles tired of 'below average' play

Wed, 14 Jun 2017 21:42:19 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said that the team is "sick and tired of being below average" and "not being successful when we feel as though we have the ability to be a good team." He added: "We haven't been. It's time to make a change. It's not going to happen overnight. You have to go do something about it."

Fantasy Tip: The Jaguars, especially Bortles, had a lot of promise going into last season, only to end up falling far, far below expectations. The 2014 No. 3 overall draft pick will be entering the most important season of his career, as another disappointing campaign would most likely end his tenure as the starter in Jacksonville. He may become a reliable option again in fantasy down the line, but out of the gate, Bortles won't be a recommended starter for owners in most leagues.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles' mechanics 'improved'

Sat, 13 May 2017 10:37:36 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone believes there is "no doubt" the way QB Blake Bortles is throwing the ball this offseason "has improved".

Fantasy Tip: As always, major improvement in correcting a fundamental is only good if it sticks when a quarterback is facing a live pass rush, so owners need to play the wait-and-see game at least until preseason action gets underway. Bortles spent his offseason working with quarterback guru Adam Dedeaux, and it should be noted he worked hard on his mechanics prior to his breakout 2015 season, so there is reason for hope. Bortles is a high-upside QB2 who should be available late in drafts.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles' option picked up

Mon, 01 May 2017 08:24:39 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles had his fifth-year option exercised Monday, May 1.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles regressed in his third year with 3,905 passing yards, 23 touchdowns and 16 INTs, but he's still just 25 years old. He'll be a low-end QB1 or a high-end QB2 option in fantasy.

Jaguars | No decision on Blake Bortles' option

Sun, 23 Apr 2017 16:13:33 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell said the team has not decided if they will pick up QB Blake Bortles' option this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: The Jaguars have a few more weeks to decide on Bortles' option, but he will have to play better if he wants a long-term deal from the Jaguars. He has thrown 69 touchdowns and 51 interceptions in his three years in the NFL and should be considered a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues in 2017.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles to see increased reps in camp

Sun, 16 Apr 2017 09:59:12 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles will need to "go back and build his foundation from the beginning," according to head coach Doug Marrone. "We told him (in January) we wanted him to make sure his arm was ready to go because there will be an increase in reps, which will help him. I've been with Drew (Brees) in New Orleans and obviously he's a Hall of Fame-type quarterback and that's the way we approached it with him and with the team. You start with the foundation and you look to see how fast they can work through the foundation," Marrone said.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles has spent the offseason with quarterback guru Adam Dedeaux in California and is still waiting for the team to decide whether or not it will pick up his $18 million option for 2018 by the league deadline on May 3. Talent is not a question with Bortles, so a bounce-back season could be in order if he doesn't abandon his mechanics and the line plays better. He's a high-upside QB2 option for now.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles' option won't be exercised?

Sun, 26 Mar 2017 10:05:39 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles is unlikely to see his fifth-year option for 2018 picked up by May 2 - the deadline to do so - according to the Florida Times Union's Ryan O'Halloran.

Fantasy Tip: The Jaguars could easily select a quarterback on either one of the first two days of the draft in order to put some pressure on Bortles, but it seems more likely they will go all-in with him one more time and try to shore up some other weaknesses instead. Bortles, who is spending his offseason working on mechanics, is very much facing a pivotal year and should be considered little more than a high-upside QB2 in fantasy drafts this summer.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles confident in offseason work

Mon, 20 Mar 2017 23:09:41 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said he is "confident" with what he's done this offseason, and that he'll be able to "come help this team be as good as we possibly can be." Bortles is in the process of adjusting his mechanics and throwing motion.

Fantasy Tip: It's no secret that Bortles was arguably one of the most disappointing players in all of fantasy football this past season, but the hope is he can return to his 2015 form by working with quarterback gurus Tom House and Adam Dedeaux. He has a solid supporting cast around him on offense to pull it off, but owners should probably wait for him to show signs of life early on in the campaign before giving him a shot again.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles working on mechanics

Sun, 19 Mar 2017 13:29:48 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said he has been working with quarterback coaches this offseason and has been able to develop a quicker release. He has been working out with WR Marqise Lee in California and is scheduled to work out with WRs Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns next week in Arizona.

Fantasy Tip: Bortles was expected to have a big season in 2016 but finished with 23 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. He has thrown 51 interceptions since entering the NFL, but he could cut down on the interceptions if he uses a quicker release. He will have plenty of weapons to work with in the passing game, but owners probably should consider him a No. 2 fantasy quarterback.

Jaguars | Jags counting on Blake Bortles rebound

Sat, 04 Mar 2017 15:47:29 -0800

Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan is counting on a bounce-back season from QB Blake Bortles in 2017. "That's our hope and it's not just our dream. And then it's, 'How do we make it happen?' … Blake has to organize himself and there is only so much we can do under the collective bargaining agreement. There is a lot of stuff Blake controls. We want to do everything to make Blake successful," Khan said.

Fantasy Tip: Khan doesn't have much choice. Bortles' mechanics regressed in a big way last season, which contributed greatly to his demise. To that end, he has spent most of the offseason in California training with throwing guru Tom House, like he did in the 2015 offseason. It may be too much to ask for a return to his breakthrough 2015 campaign, but Jacksonville has enough weapons to help Bortles improve if he can become more efficient with his throwing motion.
