Bills | Sammy Watkins efficient in 2015

Wed, 20 Jan 2016 09:59:09 -0800

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins caught passes on 17.3% of the routes that he ran this season, which was the highest reception-to-routes-run rate for a Bills receiver since ESPN started tracking the statistic in 2007. Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (22.6%) led receivers this season in the category. Watkins ranked 13th among qualifying receivers.

Fantasy Tip: At one point in the season, Watkins had to complain in order to have more passes come his way. He finished the year with 60 catches (95 targets) for 1,047 yards and nine touchdowns. The emergence of Tyrod Taylor at quarterback helped Watkin's cause, and he should be a solid WR2 heading into next season.

Jets | Darrelle Revis struggles in finale

Tue, 05 Jan 2016 16:36:28 -0800

New York Jets CB Darrelle Revis played press coverage against Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins just three or four times in a Week 17 loss after playing mostly press coverage against Watkins and limiting him to just three catches for 14 yards in an earlier meeting this year. Watkins was targeted 15 times in Week 17 and was covered by Revis eight of those times, according to Pro Football Focus. Watkins had five catches for 80 yards against Revis. Revis essentially was turned into a zone cornerback in the matchup with Watkins because of the Jets fear that Watkins would beat them deep.

Bills | Sammy Watkins stepping up

Wed, 23 Dec 2015 10:09:11 -0800

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins is fourth in the league in receiving yards and third in touchdowns over the last five weeks, and he's been one of the best deep threats in the NFL. He reached a speed of 22.13 mph on his 48-yard touchdown catch in Week 15, which was the second fastest speed on a touchdown reception this year.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) is really starting to take off as the season winds to a close, and he could see even more opportunities with Robert Wood (groin) out for the final two games. However, temper your expectations against a Dallas Cowboys team that has defended wideouts surprisingly well in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins is finally healthy and producing giant numbers. He had just one 100-yard game in his first eight outings. HE has three 100-yard games in his past four, and a total of six touchdowns to re-emerge as a must-start WR1 in all fantasy formats.

Bills | Sammy Watkins goes off in first half

Sun, 29 Nov 2015 11:45:53 -0800

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins tallied six catches for 158 yards and two touchdowns in the first half against the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, Nov. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins has come into his own of late and has quickly turned into Tyrod Taylor's favorite target. As long as Watkins is healthy, which isn't a guarantee, he should be started every week in seasonal leagues.

Bills | Sammy Watkins needs more targets

Wed, 25 Nov 2015 09:17:46 -0800

Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan acknowledged that WR Sammy Watkins needs more balls thrown his way after the star receiver wasn't targeted once by QB Tyrod Taylor in the Week 11 loss to the New England Patriots Monday, Nov. 23. "He's too good of a playmaker not to get more looks. So we're definitely going to be looking at that. We have a great talent there. We got to try to utilize him possibly a little more than we have, obviously," Ryan said. Watkins finished the game against the Patriots with just three catches for 39 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Watkins ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) really has had only one big game to hang his hat on this year, and Taylor hasn't really connected with him much on a consistent basis. The Kansas City Chiefs defense has stiffened up in recent weeks, but they still allow the second-most PPR fantasy points (43.7) to receivers per week this year. Watkins will surely see more looks and could surprise daily owners.
