Titans | Marcus Mariota participating

Thu, 25 May 2017 07:52:34 -0700

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) took part in the first 10 organized team activities Tuesday, May 23. He did everything in the walkthrough, individual drills and in 7-on-7 drills. "It felt great," Mariota said after practice. "Four months ago I wasn't sure I was going to be able to participate in OTAs, and being able to do some of the drills," Mariota said. "I was very happy and very grateful. It was fun to be out there with the guys, and I enjoyed it."

Fantasy Tip: Mariota took some strides in his second year with 3,426 passing yards, 26 touchdowns to nine interceptions, 349 rushing yards and two rushing scores. He also completed 61.2 percent of his passes. He's a midrange QB1 option in fantasy.

Titans | Marcus Mariota could see some action in OTAs

Sun, 14 May 2017 08:33:33 -0700

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) is not yet running full-speed after fracturing his right fibula late last season, but the coaching staff is attempting to figure out how to get him - along with injured rookie WR Corey Davis - on the field together sooner than later. Organized team activities run from May 23 to June 8, and there is a chance both could see limited work during that time. "We're going to do some things that (Mariota is) going to be able to practice, do some things that aren't going to subject him to (further injury). We may do more 7-on-7s than we ever have done, just things like that to try to help him out," Titans coach Mike Mularkey said.

Fantasy Tip: Just yesterday, TitansOnline.com's Jim Wyatt suggested Mariota may not see any offseason work at all, so it is possible the team is waffling at this point. Both sources are in agreement he will have no trouble being ready for the team's regular-season opener. Assuming no setbacks, Mariota can be viewed as a low-end fantasy QB1.

Titans | Marcus Mariota will not be rushed back

Sat, 13 May 2017 15:27:12 -0700

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota's (leg) status for offseason work remains in the "to be determined" department, according to TitansOnline's Jim Wyatt.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota's status for Week 1 is not in question, and it seems Wyatt and the team are doing their best to not put any undue pressure on the quarterback to come back before he is absolutely ready. Tennessee will want to see him establish some chemistry with rookies Corey Davis, Taywan Taylor, and Jonnu Smith before the summer is over, however, so he will probably be expected to be ready for the first day of training camp. Mariota should be considered a fantasy QB1 candidate.

Titans | Marcus Mariota not at full speed

Fri, 12 May 2017 18:25:45 -0700

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota is still not running at full speed, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.

Fantasy Tip: The news is by no means a setback, and all signs point to Mariota being ready well before the start of the regular season. He has QB1 potential heading into 2017, especially after Tennessee went offense early and often in the draft.

Titans | Marcus Mariota close to 'full-head running'

Thu, 04 May 2017 17:12:27 -0700

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) said that he feels great and is "probably another week or two from really full-head running." In the meantime, he's begun to do some jogging and is continuing to take things one day at a time in doing his best to be prepared for the season.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota has seemingly been breezing through his rehab, as reports continue to indicate that the franchise quarterback is ahead of schedule. That's good news for those who have interest in drafting him for their fantasy team, as Mariota looks like he'll be ready in plenty of time before the season opener. After his breakout campaign a year ago, Mariota will enter the new season with legitimate QB1 potential.

Titans | Corey Davis loves Marcus Mariota

Thu, 27 Apr 2017 18:52:41 -0700

Tennessee Titans WR Corey Davis said QB Marcus Mariota is his "favorite" quarterback. "He is smart, he is very accurate and I told you before I like the swagger he has going on," Davis said. "He is very poised, and he is a great leader. Catching passes from him, it is going to be right."

Fantasy Tip: Davis will be given every opportunity to start this year, and he could be Mariota's top target sooner rather than later. He is worth a look as a WR4 in redraft leagues, and he is worthy of a top-five pick in rookie drafts.

Titans | Marcus Mariota will run soon

Mon, 17 Apr 2017 12:17:27 -0700

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) hopes to begin running again in two to three weeks. Mariota underwent surgery on his right leg earlier this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Keep an eye on Mariota's status as the offseason progresses. The Titans will indubitably be cautious with their franchise quarterback. He has QB1 potential when he's fully healthy, especially with his running ability. If he makes it through the offseason without any restraints, he'll be a QB1 consideration in fantasy drafts.

Titans | Marcus Mariota to be at workouts

Thu, 13 Apr 2017 17:32:00 -0700

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) will report for the first day of the team's voluntary offseason program Monday, April 17, according to a team spokesperson. Head coach Mike Mularkey said the team will be overly cautious with Mariota, who is expected to return to the field in time for the start of training camp.

Fantasy Tip: This would appear to be another step in Mariota being ready for the season opener. As long as he's healthy going into Week 1, he has the chance to be an extremely valuable fantasy quarterback given what he did last season, throwing for 3,426 yards and 26 touchdowns compared to only nine interceptions. Mariota can present excellent value towards the end of drafts.

Titans | Marcus Mariota sheds walking boot

Mon, 27 Mar 2017 22:42:15 -0700

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) has shed the walking boot on his surgically repaired right leg and is back home in Hawaii, where he is running on the beach as part of his rehab from a broken fibula that he suffered Dec. 24. He expects to be ready by training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota continues to be on track in his recovery, as the goal has always been for him to be ready by training camp. At this rate, it looks like he'll be back at 100 percent going into next season, meaning owners can draft him with high expectations after his breakout campaign in 2016. Mariota could easily wind up being one of the best value picks at quarterback, having legitimate QB1 potential.

Titans | Marcus Mariota switches to walking boot

Tue, 28 Feb 2017 23:05:29 -0800

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) has ditched the scooter that helped him keep weight off his repaired right leg and switched to a walking boot Tuesday, Feb. 28. It's the next step in his recovery from surgery to fix a broken fibula.

Fantasy Tip: This is right on schedule for Mariota, as he continues to be on track to return in time for training camp. As long as he returns at 100 percent, he could offer fantasy owners sneaky good value, after exhibiting shades of being a legitimate QB1 in his sophomore campaign this past season. Before going down in Week 16, Mariota registered 3,426 passing yards and 26 touchdowns compared to just nine interceptions. He also ran for 349 yards and recorded two rushing TDs.

Titans | Marcus Mariota recovering

Wed, 22 Feb 2017 19:09:56 -0800

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) is "doing very well" in his rehab from a broken fibula, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.

Fantasy Tip: The Titans plan on holding Mariota out of OTAs in an effort to make sure he doesn't suffer any kind of needless setback, so he is a very good bet to be fully healthy by the time training camp rolls around. Assuming Tennessee lands a top-notch receiver in the draft as expected, Mariota stands a very good chance of settling in as a midrange QB1 in 2017.

Titans | Marcus Mariota made history in 2016

Mon, 20 Feb 2017 13:23:59 -0800

In 2016, Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota became the seventh player in NFL history to throw for at least 6,000 yards and rush for at least 600 yards in his first two seasons combined.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota appears to be the real deal, although his running ability may get him into trouble. He's already missed five games in his first two years. Even so, he's a low-end QB1 to high-end QB2 consideration for next season's fantasy drafts.

Titans | Marcus Mariota likely out until camp

Wed, 15 Feb 2017 11:12:08 -0800

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Mularkey said the team will be very cautious with QB Marcus Mariota (leg) and probably will keep him out until the start of training camp. Mularkey said Mariota's recovery is on schedule.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota will have the entire offseason to recover from his fractured fibula and should be ready for training camp. He improved in his second year in the NFL and finished with 3,426 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also added 349 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Mariota should continue to improve and can be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in some fantasy leagues.

Titans | Injury won't slow Marcus Mariota

Sun, 12 Feb 2017 18:03:46 -0800

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) is going to be fine following surgery to repair a fractured fibula, according to Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles, who had the same surgery in 2006. "So Marcus is going to be good to go," Sproles said. "He'll probably be better than ever."

Fantasy Tip: Mariota showcased a high ceiling last year, and with Tennessee likely to add a weapon or two on the offensive side, he is a QB1 candidate in 2017.

Titans | Marcus Mariota owns Titans record

Tue, 07 Feb 2017 20:36:47 -0800

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota became the first player in franchise history to post back-to-back seasons with a passer rating of 90 or better. In his rookie season in 2015, Mariotta finished with a 91.5 QB rating, before wrapping up his sophomore campaign this past year with a 95.6 QB rating.

Fantasy Tip: There's no doubt Mariota is one of the league's brightest young quarterbacks, and his fantasy outlook in the years ahead looks very promising due to his dual-threat ability. While his status going into training camp is still a bit up in the air after he fractured his fibula late in the year, Mariota could potentially return terrific value in '17 as long as he's healthy.

Titans | Marcus Mariota consistent in 2016

Wed, 25 Jan 2017 15:52:57 -0800

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota threw for 1,654 yards, 13 touchdowns and four interceptions at home this season while throwing for 1,772 yards, 13 touchdowns and five interceptions on the road.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota had a terrific second season in the NFL but probably will miss some of the offseason workouts because of his fractured fibula. He should be an attractive option for fantasy owners next season as long as he is healthy and can be a low-end No. 1 quarterback.

Thu, 19 Jan 2017 09:11:32 -0800

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) recently met with a doctor and is on track in his recovery from a broken fibula. Head coach Mike Mularkey said he is not sure when Mariota will be able to practice but expects him to be ready for the start of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota probably will miss some of the offseason workouts but likely will be ready for training camp. He posted solid numbers this season and could be a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 quarterback next season.

Mon, 02 Jan 2017 11:53:56 -0800

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) will have the aid of a knee walker/scooter for eight weeks, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota has plenty of time to make a full recovery from a broken fibula and subsequent surgery. He should be good to go when offseason activities commence and has QB1 potential heading into the 2017 season.

Titans | Marcus Mariota placed on IR

Tue, 27 Dec 2016 14:24:25 -0800

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Dec. 27. QB Alex Tanney was promoted to the active roster from the practice squad in a subsequent move.

Fantasy Tip: It's a tough way for Mariota's season to end, but he did have a good season. If he makes a full recovery by the time training camp begins then he'll be a fringe QB1 draft consideration.

Titans | Marcus Mariota may be ready for OTAs

Mon, 26 Dec 2016 16:50:12 -0800

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Mularkey said the team believes QB Marcus Mariota (leg) has a chance to be ready for offseason workouts. Mariota is scheduled to undergo surgery Wednesday, Dec. 28.

Fantasy Tip: The Titans probably will take things slow with Mariota this offseason but he could see some work during the workouts if he is cleared. He finishes the 2016 season with 3,426 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions and also added 349 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. He should be considered a low-end No. 1 or a high-end No. 2 quarterback in leagues next season.

Mon, 26 Dec 2016 13:43:09 -0800

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) will undergo surgery on his broken fibula Wednesday, Dec. 26. A plate will be inserted and a four-to-five month recovery period is expected.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota will have all of the offseason to heal from his serious injury. Matt Cassell is not a recommended starter for seasonal leagues or daily contests. If Mariota can make a full recovery, he'll be a borderline QB1 draft consideration next year.

Titans | Marcus Mariota fractures fibula

Sat, 24 Dec 2016 13:38:16 -0800

Updating a previous report, Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (leg) suffered a fractured fibula in the Week 16 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, head coach Mike Mularkey confirmed Sunday, Dec. 24.

Fantasy Tip: With Mariota down and out for the season, Matt Cassel will steer the Titans ship home. Even if you are looking for a DFS value in Week 17, Cassel has very little in the way for fantasy appeal against a Top 5 Houston Texans pass defense in the final week.

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota has eight touchdowns since his last turnover, and quarterbacks coach Jason Michael said Mariota is doing drills designed to help him protect the football two or three times per week.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota's turnover-free streak faces a tough test in Week 15 against an opportunistic Kansas City defense, but he is still a low-end QB1.

Titans | Marcus Mariota has disastrous game

Sun, 11 Dec 2016 19:04:37 -0800

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota completed just six of his 20 pass attempts for 88 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 14 game against the Denver Broncos. He also added eight runs for 38 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota has had some great fantasy performances this season, but this was a complete stinker at a critical juncture for his owners. It wasn't shocking since Denver is tops in the NFL in pass defense, but this was a really poor stat line.

Titans | Two more TDs for Marcus Mariota

Sun, 27 Nov 2016 16:56:25 -0800

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota completed 15 of his 23 pass attempts for 226 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 12 game against the Chicago Bears. He also rushed four times for 46 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota has two or more touchdown passes in eight straight outings, and 10 of his 12 starts overall. He has emerged as a solid low-end TE1 in all fantasy formats, although you'll need to make alternate plans in Week 13 with the Titans on a bye.

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota will meet the Indianapolis Colts in Week 11. The Colts rank last in the AFC, and 31st in the NFL against the pass, allowing 287.9 yards per game with 17 touchdowns through nine games.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota has thrown for two or more touchdowns in six straight games, including Week 7 against Indianapolis. Through 10 games Mariota has 21 TDs and just eight interceptions. He has emerged as a solid low-end QB1 in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams.

Titans | Marcus Mariota in elite company

Wed, 16 Nov 2016 09:16:27 -0800

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota has been a top-five quarterback the last five weeks in standard fantasy leagues. He has thrown for 1,394 yards and 14 touchdowns to only three interceptions with 111 rushing yards and one rushing score in five games.

Fantasy Tip: The matchups haven't been stifling, but he hasn't seen paper-thin fronts during the stretch either. He has a rematch against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1. He was 22-for-37 (59.5%) for 232 yards and two scores against them in Week 7. The Colts present a decent matchup for him this week.

Titans | Marcus Mariota seeking franchise history

Tue, 15 Nov 2016 15:35:36 -0800

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota has thrown multiple touchdown passes in six consecutive games, tying him with former QB Warren Moon for the longest such streak in franchise history. Moon accomplished the feat in 1987.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota has been as hot as any quarterback in the league over the past several weeks, and with a tasty matchup on tap against the Colts in Week 11, he has a very good chance of surpassing Moon for the franchise record. He's quickly becoming a perennial QB1 in all leagues, being one of the few true dual-threat quarterbacks in the NFL.

Titans | Marcus Mariota mistake-free in red zone

Tue, 15 Nov 2016 09:02:58 -0800

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota has posted a 65.4 completion percentage and taken only two sacks while throwing for 30 touchdowns versus no interceptions in the red zone since entering the league in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota, who is riding a six-game streak with multiple touchdown throws, has been so efficient as a passer lately he's only needed to run for 47 yards over the last four games. Last year's No. 2 overall pick has certainly been helped by one of the best offensive lines and rushing attacks in the league this year, but there is little doubt he has emerged as an every-week starter in fantasy. Look for the good times to keep rolling in Week 11 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Titans | Marcus Mariota expected to be fine

Wed, 09 Nov 2016 20:02:02 -0800

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (ankle) does not appear on the team's injury report this week, and he was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Nov. 9, after suffering a minor ankle injury in the Week 9 loss in San Diego.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota is expected to be ready to face the Green Bay Packers. He is a solid streaming option in most fantasy leagues this week if you need a bye-week replacement, as the Packers secondary is awfully banged up.

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota completed 18 of his 22 pass attempts for 270 yards and two touchdowns and had three carries for 11 yards in a 36-22 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday, Oct. 26.

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota threw for 284 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-26 win over the Cleveland Browns Sunday, Oct. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota is showing no signs of a second-year slump as the Titans are now 3-3 after going 3-13 last season. He shouldn't be a QB1 just yet because of struggles against some teams, but Mariota is a decent option.

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota was 20-for-29 for 163 yards and three touchdowns Sunday, Oct. 9, in a win over the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: Yardage leagues were hurt somewhat by Mariota's performance, but scoring leagues saw benefit. Mariota was fairly effective, and this may be a case where less is better for the second-year QB.

Tue, 04 Oct 2016 07:01:33 -0700

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota has connected on 41 of 80 targets to wide receivers this season. Head coach Mike Mularkey said he plans to devote more practice time toward bettering the chemistry between Mariota and the wide receivers.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota is likely a backup in most fantasy settings, but his dual threat could have him in your lineup in certain matchups if he irons things out.

Titans | Precision lacking for Titans

Mon, 03 Oct 2016 17:13:10 -0700

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota has struggled so far this year with new wide receivers. "I think [the chemistry] will improve, I'm almost ensuring that it will improve," head coach Mike Mularkey said. Mularkey said the receivers need to run more precise routes, while Mariota must be more accurate and less hesitant. "We've got to just be more precise outside, and I think you'll see better production in the passing game."

Fantasy Tip: Tennessee's passing game has been gruesomely underwhelming through the first four games of the season. Delanie Walker and DeMarco Murray have produced more than any receiver yet. Tajae Sharpe and Rishard Matthews are still the top receivers for Tennessee, but it's difficult to start either of them until they can develop a better rapport with Mariota.

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota completed 13 of his 29 pass attempts for 202 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in the Week 4 game against the Houston Texans. He also ran four times for 20 yards.

Titans | Marcus Mariota good against AFC South

Wed, 28 Sep 2016 08:01:14 -0700

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota has 866 passing yards, five touchdowns, 141 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in his last three games against AFC South teams.

Fantasy Tip: He faces a Houston Texans defense without Brian Cushing (knee) and J.J. Watt (back) this week. Mariota had a poor Week 3, but if you're an Aaron Rodgers owner that has to cover a bye week, he's a pretty solid option.

Titans | Marcus Mariota struggles in loss

Sun, 25 Sep 2016 20:14:51 -0700

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota completed 17 of his 33 pass attempts for 214 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in the Week 3 game against the Oakland Raiders. He also ran three times for 22 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota had at least two passing touchdowns in each of his first two games, but he was awful in this one and really missed the injured Delanie Walker, his go-to receiver. Mariota is just too inconsistent to rely upon in most fantasy leagues unless using him as a bye-week replacement.

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota completed 25 of 33 attempts for 238 yards, two touchdowns and an interception against the Detroit Lions Sunday, Sept. 18. He ran twice for 11 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Solid but unspectacular, Mariota's fourth-down touchdown pass to Andre Johnson that proved to be the game winner helped his stats. It wasn't a great day for him overall, but it should be better in Week 3 against the Oakland Raiders in Tennessee. He's a fringe QB1.

Titans | Rishard Matthews working on timing

Fri, 16 Sep 2016 20:18:57 -0700

Tennessee Titans WR Rishard Matthews said he and QB Marcus Mariota missed a couple of opportunities in Week 1, but offensive coordinator Terry Robiskie said he expects their timing to improve.

Fantasy Tip: Tajae Sharpe looks to be Mariota's early favorite in the passing game, but Matthews is worth stashing for at least a few weeks to see how his role develops.

Titans | Marcus Mariota might play Thursday

Mon, 29 Aug 2016 21:21:06 -0700

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota might play a series against the Miami Dolphins in the preseason finale Thursday, Sept. 1, head coach Mike Mularkey said Monday, Aug. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota has a solid cadre of receivers and he is a high-end QB2 in standard fantasy formats with QB1 potential, especially since he is bit of a dual threat.

Titans | Marcus Mariota shines in no-huddle offense

Wed, 24 Aug 2016 10:11:51 -0700

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota said the no-huddle offense is comfortable for him because of his experience operating it last season and during college. Mariota complete all six of his passing attempts, including a 21-yard touchdown pass to WR Harry Douglas during an 81-yard drive utilizing the no-huddle offense against the Carolina Panthers Saturday, Aug. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota boasts plenty of upside and could emerge as a weekly starting quarterback this season. His ability to pad his fantasy points on the ground is a nice bonus, too. However, he likely won't be the most reliable week-to-week option, so he might be best utilized as a streaming option in favorable matchups. He's best viewed as a late-round target for those who wait at the position.

Titans | Tajae Sharpe has earned trust of team

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 17:18:16 -0700

Tennessee Titans WR Tajae Sharpe has already gained the trust of QB Marcus Mariota and the coaching staff, according to TitansOnline.com senior writer Jim Wyatt.

Fantasy Tip: In case we needed evidence of said trust, Sharpe needed only three drives with Mariota against the Carolina Panthers on Saturday to roll up six catches and 68 yards. He is unlikely to be a big-play threat, but his advanced route-running chops help explain why he led FBS last season with 111 receptions at Massachusetts and are a key reason why he has impressed so quickly in Tennessee. He's well worth a late pick in fantasy as a WR5 with some upside.

Titans | Marcus Mariota mostly sharp against Carolina

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 15:11:14 -0700

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota went 9-for-10 for 104 yards with a touchdown and an interception against the Carolina Panthers on Saturday, Aug. 20. He added 13 yards on the ground before giving way to QB Matt Cassel early in the second quarter.

Fantasy Tip: Mariota threw a questionable ball that was picked off by Bene Benwikere on the first drive, but he was otherwise flawless, routinely hooking up with rising undrafted free agent Tajae Sharpe during their three drives together. Last year's No. 2 overall pick is 14-for-15 in exhibition play and should be considered as a high-upside QB2 given his efficiency and ability to generate fantasy points with his feet.
