Diamondbacks | Jhoulys Chacin will make spot start

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 14:17:25 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Jhoulys Chacin was recalled from Class AAA Reno to start against the St. Louis Cardinals Monday, Aug. 24, so SP Robbie Ray can have an extra day of rest between starts.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Ray ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats Monday, but especially at FantasyScore. Chacin should be viewed as a risky start in all fantasy formats Monday. While he has done well at Class AAA Reno this season with a 3.39 ERA over 12 starts, it is a daunting matchup. Expect Ray to start against St. Louis Tuesday, Aug. 25, which also isn't a great spot for the lefty.

Diamondbacks | Robbie Ray fans eight Giants

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 05:18:31 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray struck out eight batters over five innings while allowing two runs on eight hits during Arizona's 6-5 loss to the San Francisco Giants Friday, July 17.

Fantasy Tip: Ray ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) really has been a surprise of late, and his 2.29 ERA, 2.57 FIP, 1.07 WHIP and 7.5 K/9 are worthy marks in the majority of seasonal leagues. His recent run may prove to be sustainable, too. He is worth an add in deep mixed leagues, and FantasyScore players could target the hurler in favorable matchups.

Diamondbacks | Robbie Rays posts career high

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 21:49:40 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray allowed two unearned runs and four hits with a walk in a career-high 7 2/3 innings in a win against the Texas Rangers Tuesday, July 7. He also struck out four batters.

Fantasy Tip: Ray ($5,100; or 10.2% of cap) has lasted at least six innings in five of the past six games, and he has quality starts in five of his eight outings. He is a solid mid-level FantasyScore option.

Diamondbacks | Robbie Ray pitching well as starter

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 13:31:41 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray has a 1.98 ERA and has allowed three earned runs or fewer in each of his six starts this season. Ray faces the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday, July 1.

Fantasy Tip: Ray ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) held the Dodgers to two earned runs over 6 2/3 innings with four strikeouts Tuesday, June 9, but it doesn't mean he is a lock to shut them down again Wednesday. FantasyScore players should view Ray as a high-risk, high-reward No. 2 arm for contests, and he is just a cavernous mixed and NL-only option in seasonal leagues.

Diamondbacks | Robbie Ray fans career high

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 05:42:56 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray struck out a career-high seven batters Saturday, June 20, against the San Diego Padres, but he allowed six hits, two walks and four runs through 5 2/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Ray ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) doubled his earned run total for the season while allowing just his second home run. Ray will be a GPP option when he takes the hill for a rematch against the Padres Friday, June 26.

Diamondbacks | Robbie Ray does well in emergency start

Fri, 05 Jun 2015 04:47:08 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray allowed six hits in five scoreless innings, with four strikeouts, but his team lost 6-2 to the New York Mets on Thursday, June 4. The Mets scored all of their runs after Ray left the game.

Fantasy Tip: Ray struggled a bit to start out, but he found his footing pretty fast. He didn't do a bad job considering Ray was pressed into emergency duty when Archie Bradley went on the disabled list. Ray's daily value is yet to be determined, but if it is low he could be worth the play.

Diamondbacks | Robbie Ray to start Thursday

Thu, 04 Jun 2015 10:11:17 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray, who was called up from the minors Thursday, June 4, will make the start tonight against the New York Mets after SP Archie Bradley (shoulder) landed on the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Ray, 23, allowed one earned run in six innings in his lone start this year, and he was 2-3 with a 3.67 ERA in nine starts for Class AAA Reno with 12.3 strikeouts per nine innings. He won't be available on FantasyScore today, so you can ignore him. It's unclear if he'll stick in the rotation, though, but he might be worth a speculative pickup in deep NL-only leagues.

Diamondbacks | Archie Bradley to DL

Thu, 04 Jun 2015 10:06:37 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Archie Bradley (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder tendonitis Thursday, June 4, and SP Robbie Ray will be recalled from Class AAA Reno in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Bradley ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has been all out of sorts since being hit in the face by a liner April 28. Since then, he's allowed 19 earned runs in 15 2/3 innings. Don't feel compelled to hold onto Bradley in shallow mixed leagues if you don't have the room.

Diamondbacks | Robbie Ray starting Tuesday

Fri, 01 May 2015 18:49:38 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray is expected to start against the Colorado Rockies Tuesday, May 5, and he will likely make two starts in place of SP Archie Bradley (face).

Fantasy Tip: Ray has struggled in Double-A Mobile this season, and it is hard to expect much out of him when he starts for the Diamondbacks. Avoid him at FantasyScore.

Diamondbacks | AZ has competition for rotation spots

Sun, 08 Feb 2015 12:23:52 -0800

As many as 10 pitchers could be competing for the final three spots in the Arizona Diamondbacks' starting rotation. SPs Josh Collmenter and Jeremy Hellickson are expected to win the first two spots in the rotation, although nothing is etched in stone. SPs Chase Anderson, Archie Bradley, Trevor Cahill, Andrew Chafin, Rubby De La Rosa, Randall Delgado, Daniel Hudson, Vidal Nuno, Robbie Ray and Allen Webster are vying for the other spots, although several of these pitchers could wind up in the bullpen or the minor leagues.
