Diamondbacks | Robbie Ray fans 11 batters

Thu, 28 Jul 2016 14:06:43 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray allowed five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out 11 batters during the Diamondbacks' 6-4 loss to the Milwaukee Brewres Thursday, July 28.

Fantasy Tip: Ray's fantasy value is tied to his strikeouts, and he's up to 143 through 109 1/3 innings for the season. However, he has just five wins and a 4.70 ERA, so he's best left to deep mixed leagues, and that's only if you can afford to risk your ERA climbing.

Diamondbacks | Robbie Ray fires seven scoreless

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 18:08:50 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray allowed four hits while walking two and striking out seven over seven scoreless innings in a win over the Los Angeles Dodgers Sunday, July 17.

Fantasy Tip: Ray continues to pile up strikeouts at an impressive clip, but consistency has eluded him. His 4.49 ERA limits his value to NL-only formats and deeper mixed leagues.

Dodgers | Adrian Gonzalez gets a day off

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 12:05:51 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez is not in the lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray on Sunday, July 17. 1B/OF Scott Van Slyke will replace him in the field and bat cleanup. 2B Chase Utley, C Yasmani Grandal and OF Andrew Toles are also not starting, and will be replaced by INF Chris Taylor (hitting sixth), C A.J. Ellis (seventh) and newly promoted rookie SS/OF Zach Walters (eighth), respectively.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez remains a very good hitter (.287), but he has only homered twice and driven in 17 runs since the end of May, so he can be benched in most fantasy leagues. The same can be said for Utley, while Grandal emerged as a back-end starting catcher option with a strong first-half finish. None of the today's four replacements need to be considered outside of deep mixed or NL-only formats.

Diamondbacks | Two starters off limits

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 05:00:53 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin and SP Robbie Ray will not be dealt prior to the trade deadline, but RP Daniel Hudson and RP Tyler Clippard could be shipped out.

Fantasy Tip: It appears the timing on this has to do more with when they are free agents. Since Hudson and Clippard are up first (this offseason and after 2017, respectively) it makes sense. Corbin and Ray have identical 4-8 records and don't carry much value at the moment, but future seasons could be different. Right now, these pitchers are more likely to be stashed in deeper NL and mixed leagues.

Diamondbacks | Robbie Ray drawing attention

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 13:22:16 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray is drawing attention from teams looking for starting pitching. Ray has a 10.42 strikeout average per nine innings.

Fantasy Tip: From a fantasy standpoint Ray has been pretty decent. Ray's thrown over 200 innings of baseball with a 4.00 earned run average, and it's no wonder why teams are high on him. Keep an eye on this situation, as Ray's fantasy value could go even higher depending on where he lands.

Diamondbacks | Robbie Ray expects to make next start

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 15:38:04 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray (finger) said he expects to make his next start Sunday, July 3. He was removed from his start early with a blood blister on his finger Monday, June 27.

Fantasy Tip: Ray's numbers don't look great for owners in mixed leagues (4.69 ERA, 1.54 WHIP), but his 10.4 K/9 is attractive minus his inconsistency this year. The D-backs face the Giants at home Sunday, so Ray will be a risky fantasy starter given his finger issue.

Diamondbacks | Robbie Ray leaves with blister

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 23:12:03 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray (finger) left his start Monday, June 27, with a blister on the middle finger of his left hand. He doesn't expect to miss his next start. Ray will have an extra day of rest before his next start Sunday, July 3, against the San Francisco Giants.

Fantasy Tip: Ray is 4-7 with a 4.69 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP, but he has 100 strikeouts in 86 1/3 innings. His ratios make him tough to use in traditional leagues, but those K's are attractive in good DFS matchups.

Diamondbacks | Robbie Ray tagged with loss

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 19:03:35 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray (4-6) allowed four runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday, June 22, with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Although he didn't have his best stuff Wednesday, Ray is still a viable back-of-the-rotation option in seasonal fantasy leagues because he is averaging more than a strikeout per inning this year. He has a favorable matchup in his next outing versus the Philadelphia Phillies Monday, June 27.

Diamondbacks | Robbie Ray shuts down Miami

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 19:26:35 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray allowed three hits while walking one and striking out six over 7 2/3 scoreless innings in a win over the Miami Marlins Sunday, June 12.

Fantasy Tip: Ray has been wildly inconsistent this year, but with 78 strikeouts in 69.0 innings, he is worth taking a chance on in NL-only leagues and deeper mixed formats.

Diamondbacks | Robbie Ray struggles Monday

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 05:14:12 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray gave up five runs and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings with three walks and six strikeouts Monday, June 6, in a 6-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. Ray also opened the scoring in the third inning with his first career home run.

Fantasy Tip: It was a mixed day at the plate for Ray. You may have gotten fantasy points from his home run, but they were likely negated by the pitching performance. Ray carries little fantasy value in almost all formats.
