Orioles | More rotation competition for O's

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 11:43:53 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SPs Tyler Wilson, Mike Wright, Odrisamer Despaigne and Vance Worley are rotation candidates after the Orioles have posted a league-high spring ERA of 7.11 so far.

Fantasy Tip: New acquisition Yovani Gallardo has been slow out of the gates and Chris Tillman is dealing with a hip injury. Aside from maybe Kevin Gausman in deep mixed leagues for his upside, none of Baltimore's starters are very appealing to fantasy owners.

Orioles | Odrisamer Despaigne sent to O's

Thu, 04 Feb 2016 10:24:41 -0800

San Diego Padres SP Odrisamer Despaigne was acquired by the Baltimore Orioles Thursday, Feb. 4, in exchange for SP Jean Cosme.

Fantasy Tip: Despaigne had an ugly 5.80 ERA with the Friars last season, and his prospects moving to Camden Yards don't look well. He's a fringe AL-only option.

Padres | Colin Rea scratched

Sat, 12 Sep 2015 21:06:31 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Colin Rea (elbow, forearm) will be scratched from his start against the San Francisco Giants Sunday, Sept. 13, due to right elbow and forearm soreness. SP Odrisamer Despaigne will make the spot start.

Fantasy Tip: Keep an eye on Rea's ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) progress this week. This late in the season, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Padres, a team not in contention, shut their young pitcher down. You should avoid Despaigne ($3,500, 7.0% of cap), who hasn't started a game since Aug. 6.

Padres | Ian Kennedy won't make start Friday

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 10:35:54 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy has left the team to be with his pregnant wife, and he won't make his start Friday, July 31. SP Odrisamer Despaigne will make the start against the Miami Marlins in Kennedy's place.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy is in the middle of trade rumors and could be dealt Friday, too. Stay tuned. Despaigne ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) typically is a weak FantasyScore play, but against the Marlins, who rank last in OPS against right-handers (.657), he could make for a very profitable sleeper play.

Padres | Odrisamer Despaigne back to relief role

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 14:57:33 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Odrisamer Despaigne will return to a long-relief role for now.

Fantasy Tip: Despaigne ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) and the Padres are likely going with a smaller rotation as the All-Star break approaches. But as long as Despaigne is pitching out the bullpen, he has zero fantasy value.

Padres | Odrisamer Despaigne dominates Giants

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 16:13:57 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Odrisamer Despaigne will look to continue the success he has had against the San Francisco Giants, Tuesday, June 23. Despaigne owns a 1.10 ERA in 24 2/3 innings against the Giants, holding opposing batters to a .125 batting average.

Fantasy Tip: Despaigne ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) will make for a contrarian play on FantasyScore. It may be tough for Despaigne to get the win as his struggling offense goes up against Madison Bumgarner of the Giants, but both Derek Norris (6-for-14) and Justin Upton (11-for-29) have had success against Bumgarner in the past.

Padres | Odrisamer Despaigne stingy with runs

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 00:12:31 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Odrisamer Despaigne allowed seven hits, struck out four and walked one Sunday, May 31, in a 7-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Despaigne has allowed just three runs in his last three starts, spanning 20 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Despaigne ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is becoming a strong starting option for the Padres, and FantasyScore owners should keep him active and in their lineups as long as he is pitching this well.

Padres | Odrisamer Despaigne back in rotation

Thu, 07 May 2015 11:44:11 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Odrisamer Despaigne is back in the starting rotation after SP Brandon Morrow (shoulder) landed on the disabled list, and Despaigne will make the start against the Arizona Diamondbacks on the road Thursday, May 7.

Fantasy Tip: Despaigne ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) last pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief on April 28 against the Houston Astros, so you have to imagine he won't be stretched out enough to be a viable option for FantasyScore users in his first start back in the rotation. Eventually, though, he could become an acceptable value play for daily gamers, especially at Petco Park.

Padres | Odrisamer Despaigne likely to enter rotation

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 10:29:15 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Odrisamer Despaigne is expected to replace SP Ian Kennedy (hamstring) in the starting rotation. SP Josh Johnson (elbow) could be an option for the rotation in around six weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Despaigne's ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) fantasy baseball value increases a good deal now that Kennedy is hurt. He's relevant now in deep mixed leagues now that he has a rotation spot in the short term, and he'll be an attractive FantasyScore option in the right matchups.

Padres | Ian Kennedy hurt in debut

Thu, 09 Apr 2015 15:34:47 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy (undisclosed) was removed from the team's home opener against the San Francisco Giants Thursday, April 9, in the third inning. SP Odrisamer Despaigne is replacing Kennedy.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) wasn't a bad play at FantasyScore Wednesday, but this ruins any value he might've had. Stay tuned for the severity of his injury, but it looked like he was grabbing at his back. If he needs to miss any time, Despaigne ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) could be asked to enter the rotation.
