Padres | Odrisamer Despaigne back in rotation

Thu, 07 May 2015 11:44:11 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Odrisamer Despaigne is back in the starting rotation after SP Brandon Morrow (shoulder) landed on the disabled list, and Despaigne will make the start against the Arizona Diamondbacks on the road Thursday, May 7.

Fantasy Tip: Despaigne ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) last pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief on April 28 against the Houston Astros, so you have to imagine he won't be stretched out enough to be a viable option for FantasyScore users in his first start back in the rotation. Eventually, though, he could become an acceptable value play for daily gamers, especially at Petco Park.

Padres | Odrisamer Despaigne likely to enter rotation

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 10:29:15 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Odrisamer Despaigne is expected to replace SP Ian Kennedy (hamstring) in the starting rotation. SP Josh Johnson (elbow) could be an option for the rotation in around six weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Despaigne's ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) fantasy baseball value increases a good deal now that Kennedy is hurt. He's relevant now in deep mixed leagues now that he has a rotation spot in the short term, and he'll be an attractive FantasyScore option in the right matchups.

Padres | Ian Kennedy hurt in debut

Thu, 09 Apr 2015 15:34:47 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy (undisclosed) was removed from the team's home opener against the San Francisco Giants Thursday, April 9, in the third inning. SP Odrisamer Despaigne is replacing Kennedy.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) wasn't a bad play at FantasyScore Wednesday, but this ruins any value he might've had. Stay tuned for the severity of his injury, but it looked like he was grabbing at his back. If he needs to miss any time, Despaigne ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) could be asked to enter the rotation.

Padres | Odrisamer Despaigne still in mix

Sun, 22 Mar 2015 05:23:42 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Odrisamer Despaigne is still battling for SP Brandon Morrow for the fifth spot in the starting rotation, according to manager Bud Black. Through 12 innings pitched this spring, Despaigne has a 2.25 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and seven strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Despaigne will turn 28 before the season begins, and remains an option for the late rounds in deep mixed and NL-only formats, if he wins the rotation spot. FantasyScore players will also want to note his impressive home statistics, Despaigne posted a 1.83 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 39 strikeouts through 54 innings at the pitcher-friendly Petco Park. Even if Despaigne doesn't win the job this spring, expect him to see starts at some point this season with a number of injury risks ahead of him on the depth chart.

Padres | Odrisamer Despaigne starts off well

Fri, 06 Mar 2015 18:13:10 -0800

San Diego Padres SP Odrisamer Despaigne allowed just two hits in two scoreless innings in Cactus League action Friday, March 6, against the Chicago White Sox. He struck out two and walked one batter.

Fantasy Tip: Despaigne is battling Brandon Morrow for the final spot in the San Diego rotation. If he can nail down that final rotation job he will be a useful play in NL-only and some deeper mixed formats.

Padres | Two favorites for SD's No. 5 spot

Thu, 26 Feb 2015 15:27:40 -0800

San Diego Padres SPs Brandon Morrow and Odrisamer Despaigne are "maybe out there a touch" in the race for the No. 5 starting rotation spot early in spring, according to manager Bud Black. Morrow opted to sign with San Diego because they were going to give him a legitimate rotation shot, instead of pitching in relief. SPs Robbie Erlin and Matt Wisler are other candidates for the job.

Fantasy Tip: Even at age 30 with a lengthy injury history, Morrow seems like the more intriguing option here. Whoever wins the No. 5 spot in SD will be worth a dart throw at the tail end of deep mixed league drafts. At the very least, the winner of this competition should be owned in all NL-only leagues and could be a very valuable daily piece, especially when starting games at Petco.
