Vikings | No concerns for Teddy Bridgewater

Wed, 08 Oct 2014 10:51:34 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) won't have any concerns with his sprained left ankle in Week 6 against the Detroit Lions. He said Wednesday, Oct. 8, that he's "100 percent" after missing the Week 5 game last Thursday. Bridgewater also said he won't wear anything to protect his ankle against the Lions in his second career start. "The training staff here has done a great job of just helping me get that strength back in my ankle," Bridgewater said. "On Sunday, I'll just be able to play at full speed."

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Bridgewater will play, but the matchup against a tough Lions defense should have you hesitant to play him in FantasyScore lineups this weekend.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater returning to practice

Tue, 07 Oct 2014 10:33:43 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) is returning to practice Tuesday, Oct. 7, after missing the team's Week 5 game last Thursday, according to sources. He's on pace to start against the Detroit Lions this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: Bridgewater remains a cheaper option at FantasyScore if you choose to save money at the quarterback position. He costs $4,800 (9.6% of cap) this week, but the Detroit Lions have been stout on defense this season.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater will be ready to go

Fri, 03 Oct 2014 09:43:43 -0700

As a result, Bridgewater said he has "no doubt at all" that he will be healthy enough to return in Week 6 against the Detroit Lions. Head coach Mike Zimmer said he is planning to start Bridgewater in that game.

Fantasy Tip: The Vikes had Bridgewater's long-term outlook in mind when sitting him out in Week 5 Thursday night. Bridgewater will face a tough Detroit Lions defense next week, however.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater back in Week 6?

Thu, 02 Oct 2014 21:22:09 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) should be ready to start in Week 6, head coach Mike Zimmer said Thursday, Oct. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Bridgewater was solid in his first start in Week 4, albeit against a porous Atlanta defense. Assuming he does suit up in Week 6, he will face a Detroit defense that has played very well this season. Inconsistencies are to be expected with any rookie QB, but based on what Bridgewater showed against the Falcons, he could make a decent value pick at the position at FantasyScore when the matchups are favorable.

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) is inactive for tonight's game against the Green Bay Packers. QB Christian Ponder will start in his place.

Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder is expected to start in Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers Thursday, Oct. 2, with QB Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) a game-time decision.

Fantasy Tip: Obviously, you'll want to keep Bridgewater out of all of your daily lineups this week. Ponder will be cheap at FantasyScore, but you should look elsewhere.

Vikings | No decision on Teddy Bridgewater

Thu, 02 Oct 2014 08:54:58 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) wants to play in Week 5 but will be a game-time decision. The team wants to make sure they are limiting the danger for Bridgewater.

Fantasy Tip: Bridgewater's status will not be known until later in the day, so owners will need to check the inactive list to see if he is playing. Owners could consider spending $4,800 on Bridgewater at FantasyScore if he plays, but may want spend their money on a healthier option at quarterback.

Wed, 01 Oct 2014 11:42:11 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) is officially listed as questionable for Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers Thursday, Oct. 2.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater a game-time decision?

Wed, 01 Oct 2014 11:40:37 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) could be a game-time decision in Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers Thursday, Oct. 2. Head coach Mike Zimmer said the team doesn't want to put him at risk for the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Bridgewater ($4,800 at FantasyScore) is too much of a risk on a short week against a divisional foe. Avoid him. Christian Ponder would start in his place, but he's not worth putting into your lineup.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater remains hopeful

Tue, 30 Sep 2014 13:13:36 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) is feeling "much better" Tuesday, Sept. 30, and head coach Mike Zimmer remains hopeful that Bridgewater can play in Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers Thursday, Oct. 2. If Bridgewater is going to throw and push off his left foot, he'll likely do so during a walk-through Wednesday, Oct. 1. QB Christian Ponder would make his first start of the year if Bridgewater doesn't play.

Fantasy Tip: Bridgewater is cheap again at FantasyScore ($4,800; 9.6% of cap), but he's not a wise selection for your roster if he's not 100 percent during a short week.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater not practicing

Tue, 30 Sep 2014 11:24:24 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) isn't practicing for the second straight day Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Fantasy Tip: It's not a good sign that Bridgewater hasn't practiced yet heading into a short week against the Green Bay Packers. However, the Vikes remain optimistic that he can play. It wouldn't be wise to put him in your lineup, despite his impressive showing in his first ever start last week.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater misses practice

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 15:06:19 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) did not participate in practice Monday, Sept. 29. QB Christian Ponder worked with the first-team offense during practice.

Fantasy Tip: The team hopes Bridgewater will be able to play, but Ponder would get the start if Bridgewater sits out. Ponder should not be a starting option in any league and the team's wide receivers probably would lose some fantasy value if Ponder starts.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater does it all

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 10:27:25 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater ran five times for 27 yards, including a 13-yard touchdown run, in the team's Week 4 win over the Atlanta Falcons. However, he also opened up the team's downfield passing game, going 19 of 30 for 317 yards. He stayed in the pocket for 19 of his 29 throws, and he went 8-for-12 for 163 yards on throws that were 10 yards downfield or more.

Fantasy Tip: Bridgewater's ceiling is high in Norv Turner's offense. He'll be able to provide his fantasy owners with a little extra because of the fact that he can use his legs effectively to make big plays. In weekly leagues, he'll remain a sleeper at a cheaper cost. Play him based on matchups.

Vikings | Vikes hoping Teddy Bridgewater will play

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 10:18:53 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) and head coach Mike Zimmer are "hopeful" that the quarterback can play in Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers Thursday, Oct. 2. Bridgewater sprained his left ankle early in the fourth quarter in Week 4, but Zimmer said an MRI exam came back negative. Bridgewater was feeling much better Monday, Sept. 29. He threw for 317 yards against the Atlanta Falcons in his first start.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like there's a good chance that Bridgewater will play on a short week. Despite his solid performance against the Falcons, with little preparation and with a bum ankle, Bridgewater may not be the best option for your daily fantasy lineups.

Vikings | Matt Cassel likely needs surgery

Wed, 24 Sep 2014 07:55:20 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Matt Cassel (foot) likely has a Lisfranc fracture or dislocation that will require surgery, in the opinion of Dr. David J. Chao, a former NFL head team physician.

Fantasy Tip: Teddy Bridgewater will be the team's quarterback moving forward. His value is limited to dynasty leagues for now, but he could serve as a bye-week replacement in favorable matchups.

Sun, 21 Sep 2014 14:44:50 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater will take over as the team's starting quarterback in Week 4 after QB Matt Cassel (foot) suffered fractured bones in his foot in Week 3 against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Bridgewater is an intriguing option in FantasyScore for Week 4, as he could come with a very reasonable price tag. For those in standard fantasy formats, he is a less attractive option unless your league requires two starting signal callers.

Fri, 29 Aug 2014 18:22:02 -0700

Sun, 24 Aug 2014 09:32:02 -0700

The Minnesota Vikings are not ready to name QB Matt Cassel as their starting quarterback at this point, according to head coach Mike Zimmer.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater at No. 2

Fri, 22 Aug 2014 07:33:32 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater is entrenched as the No. 2 quarterback, and the team is confident with him there. QB Christian Ponder could be traded if he performs well enough.

Fantasy Tip: Bridgewater is likely to sit behind Matt Cassel for a while and doesn't have much value in single-year leagues.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater struggles in practice

Tue, 12 Aug 2014 10:00:31 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater tossed three interceptions and had two more passes that were almost picked off in practice Monday, Aug. 11. Head coach Mike Zimmer plans to talk with the other coaches to determine how they'll use their quarterbacks in the second preseason game. QB Matt Cassel will start the game after playing just the first series in the first preseason game. Bridgewater played around two quarters and was 6-for-13 with 49 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Bridgewater's mediocre preseason debut and his struggles in practice have held in check much of the optimism that the Vikings have had for Bridgewater in training camp. It reminds all of those over zealous drafters that Bridgewater is still a rookie, and this is definitely Cassel's job to lose.

Vikings | Matt Cassel to start again

Mon, 11 Aug 2014 05:38:06 -0700

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater so-so in debut

Fri, 08 Aug 2014 21:31:59 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater completed six of his 13 pass attempts for 49 yards in his preseason debut Friday, Aug. 8, against the Oakland Raiders. He did not throw any touchdown passes, nor did he toss any interceptions. The rookie out of Louisville was also sacked twice.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Cassel was efficient in leading the first-team offense down the field on the first drive for a touchdown, so Bridgewater might have a while to go before unseating the veteran for the starting job.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater closing gap

Wed, 30 Jul 2014 22:43:49 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater saw reps with the first-team offense in practice Wednesday, July 30. According to NFL Network's Albert Breer, QB Matt Cassel appears to lead the race for the starting quarterback job, but Bridgewater has closed the gap.

Fantasy Tip: The starting QB job in Minneapolis will be a heated battle through training camp and the preseason. The winner of the battle might emerge as a useful QB2 in most fantasy leagues, especially if WR Cordarrelle Patterson is everything as advertised this season.

Vikings | QBs splitting reps

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 10:12:46 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QBs Matt Cassel, Teddy Bridgewater and Christian Ponder have been evenly splitting reps during the early part of training camp, according to offensive coordinator Norv Turner. Turner will split the reps two ways after the team's upcoming off day.

Fantasy Tip: It appears Cassel is the leading candidate for the starting job at this point but all three are still options for the job. Cassel likely would be a desperation matchup play if he wins the starting job. Bridgewater and Ponder likely would not have much fantasy value even if they win the job.

Vikings | Christian Ponder has done well

Wed, 23 Jul 2014 20:17:34 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QBs Teddy Bridgewater and Matt Cassel saw a majority of the snaps during spring workouts, but QB Christian Ponder has a chance to start, and head coach Mike Zimmer claims it will be a fair competition. "Actually, I think Christian has done a very good job in the time that we've had him and how much he has improved in that amount of time," Zimmer said. "We're going to give everyone a fair shot, and preseason games will help determine it. We want someone who is going to take care of the football, lead the team in the right direction and when called upon be able to win football games."

Vikings | OC praises QBs

Mon, 07 Jul 2014 10:06:42 -0700

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner has been very happy with QBs Matt Cassel, Teddy Bridgewater and Christian Ponder heading up to training camp. "We've got a really, really good group," he said, explaining that it won't be hard to parcel out snaps in the apparent three-headed battle. Cassel is expected to be the starter, but Turner has praised Bridgewater for his arm strength and quick learning.

Fantasy Tip: Turner's vertical passing scheme is usually good news for his quarterbacks. However, the vet Cassel is unlikely to be a difference-maker for your fantasy squad as anything more than a midrange QB2. Bridgewater is expected to eventually take this job.

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater's deep throws have been "outstanding," according to offensive coordinator Norv Turner. Bridgewater's deep-ball accuracy was a concern heading into the NFL Draft, but Turner said Bridgewater "can make all the throws he needs to make."

Fantasy Tip: This is promising news for the rookie quarterback, but he's still a benchwarmer on fantasy squads, as he may not even win the starting quarterback job.

Vikings | QB competition wide open

Tue, 17 Jun 2014 11:32:09 -0700

The Minnesota Vikings' quarterback competition this offseason is a wide open battle between QBs Matt Cassel, Teddy Bridgewater and Christian Ponder, according to head coach Mike Zimmer. Offensive coordinator Norv Turner will plan on having all three passers see enough snaps in mandatory minicamp to make sure that they all have a "legitimate opportunity" to win the starting job in training camp next month. Zimmer won't rush into a decision, and he made it clear that Cassel won't enter camp as the presumptive starter. Both Cassel and Bridgewater had more snaps than Ponder during organized team activities, and both looked sharper than Ponder.

Fantasy Tip: If the Vikings play it safe, Cassel should be expected to enter Week 1 as the starter. However, Bridgewater is completely capable of winning the starting job, and he'd probably have the most upside immediately of the rookie passers in the league if he's starting. Whoever starts in Minny, though, is a shaky backup QB for your fantasy squad.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater fine with backup role

Fri, 06 Jun 2014 09:14:41 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater said he'd be fine with serving in a backup role in his rookie season. Bridgewater missed only three passes all day during organized team activities Thursday, June 5, and marched the team down the field during the two-minute drill. He had some first-team snaps Thursday, but QB Matt Cassel had the majority of the starting repetitions and is expected to enter training camp as the No. 1 quarterback. "Right now, I'm just learning from Matt." Bridgewater said. "He's a veteran right now, and I notice the things that he's doing when he's in the huddle. I'm taking notes from him and Christian also. Those guys have had past success."

Fantasy Tip: The Vikes have no reason to rush Bridgewater into the starting role with Cassel around. We fully expect Cassel to be the starter in Week 1, but Bridgewater has a decent chance of unseating him at some point if Cassel doesn't get the job done.
