Athletics | Billy Burns demoted

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 13:00:34 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns was optioned to Class AAA Nashville Friday, July 15. In a corresponding move, 1B Ryon Healy was promoted to Oakland.

Fantasy Tip: Burns is safe to drop in the majority of seasonal leagues following his demotion. Healy is a fast riser with a .326/.382/.558 slash line across two levels in the minors this season, but he's likely not going to receive enough playing time to be anything more than a depth piece in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues. The real winner here is Coco Crisp, as the veteran will receive full-time starts in center field. Crisp is worth starting in deep mixed leagues.

Athletics | Oakland resting three players

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 09:59:57 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick, C Stephen Vogt and OF Billy Burns are not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel Sunday, July 10. OF Coco Crisp will start in center field, while OF Khris Davis will start in left field. 1B Billy Butler will serve as the designated hitter and is batting sixth. OF Jake Smolinski will start in right field and is batting seventh, while C Matt McBride will start at catcher and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Butler has at least one hit in four of his last six games and has two RBI during that span. Owners in most leagues should be able to find better options to use. Smolinski has cooled off this month and probably should be avoided. McBride has not done much since being recalled from the minor leagues and should not be used by owners.

Athletics | Billy Burns, Danny Valencia resting

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 12:30:26 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns and 3B Danny Valencia are not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Lance McCullers Saturday, July 9. OF Coco Crisp will bat leadoff and play center field and INF Tyler Ladendorf will bat ninth and start at the hot corner.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp is batting just .227 through his first 22 at-bats this month and is hitless in six lifetime at-bats versus McCullers, while Ladendorf is off to a 3-for-32 start to his MLB career. Both players should be avoided in DFS Saturday.

Athletics | Coco Crisp sitting out Friday

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 13:25:57 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp is not in the starting lineup Friday, July 8. OF Billy Burns is starting in center field and is hitting ninth, while OF Khris Davis moves into the No. 2 hole in the batting order against Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp was suspended one game for throwing his bat in an umpire's direction Thursday night, so it looks like he's serving that suspension tonight. Take him out of your lineups. Burns has speed to burn but isn't playing much, and he's a weak DFS buy because he's unlikely to fill out the stat sheet batting ninth. Davis has 19 homers and 53 RBI on the year and his power plays in all fantasy leagues.

Athletics | Two A's out Wednesday

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 08:28:16 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia and OF Coco Crisp are out of the lineup Wednesday, July 6, with OF Billy Burns leading off and 3B Tyler Ladendorf hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Burns is hitting just .240, but he has 14 steals. Steals translate better in traditional formats, but Burns has upside at leadoff in DFS against Ervin Santana. Ladendorf is hitting .103 and isn't worth a DFS start.

Athletics | Oakland resting three starters

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 15:09:02 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt, 1B Yonder Alonso and OF Billy Burns are not in the starting lineup against Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone Tuesday, July 5. 1B Billy Butler will start at first base and is batting sixth in the lineup. OF Coco Crisp will start in center field, while OF Jake Smolinski will start in left field and is batting eighth. C Matt McBride will start at catcher and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Butler has been playing better lately and is hitting .333 with one home run and 10 RBI against left-handed pitchers. He should be a decent option for owners in daily fantasy leagues. Smolinski can be a sleeper option for owners because he is hitting .429 with one home run and four RBI over the last seven days. McBride is hitting .250 since being recalled from the minor leagues but is not a strong fantasy option.

OF Jake Smolinski will start in right field and is batting seventh. C Matt McBride will start at catcher and is batting eighth, while 2B Tyler Ladendorf will start at second base and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Butler is hitting .310 with one home run and nine RBI against left-handed pitchers this season and can be an option for owners in daily fantasy leagues. Smolinski is hitting .462 with one home run and four RBI over the last seven days and can be a sleeper option in daily leagues. McBride and Ladendorf should not be used in any leagues.
