Ed Bouchette reports for the Post Gazette free agent WR Keith Poole reportedly turned down an offer from the Steelers before signing with the Denver Broncos. The Steelers eventually signed WR Tim Baker from their practice squad to replace injured WR Will Blackwell.

The Post Gazette reports Pittsburgh Steelers WR Will Blackwell likely will be placed on injured reserve and miss the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. WR Demetrius Brown, on the practice squad, is the most likely candidate to be added to the roster. Another WR on the practice squad is rookie Tim Baker. WR Plaxico Burress had an MRI to his right shoulder and said it was sprained, not separated. He hopes to practice tomorrow and play Sunday against Cleveland.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports Pittsburgh Steelers WRs Chris Taylor, Will Blackwell, Demetrius Brown and Tim Baker are battling for what appears to be two roster spots at wide receiver. Blackwell appears to have an edge right now because he's had success as a special teams return man. The team likes Taylor's 4.34 speed, but he may have to impress them in the next few weeks to keep a roster spot with the team.

Backup QB Kent Graham (shoulder) is still not throwing and Kordell Stewart had an excused absence to be an instructor at a youth football camp in Florida conducted by teammate Wayne Gandy. 5 foot 7, 173 pound undrafted free agent KR/PR Joey Getherall of Notre Dame continued to make his bid to make the Steelers roster. He can also play WR. "I'm going out there as a receiver to catch the ball and show them what I can do," Getherall said. Another undrafted player being noticed is WR Tim Baker. RB Amos Zereoue hopes the pending departure of RB Richard Huntley clears some playing time for him.
