Phillies | Cameron Rupp out of Tuesday lineup

Tue, 24 May 2016 13:34:43 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies C Cameron Rupp is not starting Tuesday, May 24, against the Detroit Tigers. C Carlos Ruiz is batting sixth against Tigers SP Justin Verlander.

Fantasy Tip: This is merely the Ruiz half of the platoon getting a chance to play in a game. Although Ruiz is .294-2-4 in away games, he still carries little fantasy value in all formats because of the platoon situation and the low numbers this month (7-for-33, .212 average in May).

Phillies | Cameron Rupp back in lineup

Wed, 18 May 2016 08:39:04 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies C Cameron Rupp (ankle) is back in the starting lineup and is hitting sixth against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler Wednesday, May 18.

Fantasy Tip: You'll probably want to keep Rupp out at least another game if you own him in seasonal leagues. The catcher has a .238 average and one home run in 84 at-bats this year and could be a decent contrarian play if you're looking to save some money in daily formats.

Phillies | Cameron Rupp day-to-day

Mon, 16 May 2016 18:44:05 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies C Cameron Rupp (ankle) is feeling better but is being considered day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: Rupp is an OK option for deep leagues that utilize two catchers, as he usually hits in a desirable position in the batting order, but other than that, this news shouldn't affect many owners. While he remains out, veteran Carlos Ruiz will benefit with more starts.

Phillies | Cameron Rupp, Peter Bourjos out

Sun, 15 May 2016 08:22:23 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies C Cameron Rupp and OF Peter Bourjos are not in the starting lineup against Cincinnati Reds SP Dan Straily Sunday, May 15. C Carlos Ruiz will start behind the plate and bat fifth, while OF David Lough will play right field and bat ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Ruiz is batting .291 with three home runs and six RBI in just 55 at-bats and makes an excellent value play in DFS this afternoon. Lough has limited upside and does not offer much more than salary cap relief.

Phillies | Ryan Howard, Carlos Ruiz resting

Sun, 08 May 2016 08:35:07 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard and C Carlos Ruiz are out of the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Justin Nicolino Sunday, May 8. 1B Darin Ruf will bat cleanup and play first base, while C Cameron Rupp starts behind the plate and bats fifth. In addition, OF Tyler Goeddel will play left field and bat seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Rupp, Ruf and Goeddel should all be viewed as desperation sources of salary cap relief in daily fantasy games. Ruf has the most upside because of his career success versus lefties but he is hitting just .157 with three RBI in 57 at-bats this season.

Phillies | Three regulars out for Phillies

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 10:14:45 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard, C Cameron Rupp and OF Cedric Hunter are not in the starting lineup against Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez Sunday, April 17. 1B Darin Ruf will start at first base and is batting fifth in the lineup. C Carlos Ruiz will start at catcher and is batting sixth, while OF Tyler Goeddel will start in left field and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Ruf, Ruiz and Goeddel are all hitting under .200 over the first few weeks of the season and are not strong candidates for fantasy owners.

Phillies | Carlos Ruiz catching Sunday

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 07:40:56 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies C Carlos Ruiz is batting sixth and starting behind the plate against Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez Sunday, April 17. C Cameron Rupp is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Ruiz is just 3-for-18 at the plate this season and should be viewed as an inexpensive flier option for daily fantasy contests.

Phillies | Carlos Ruiz catching Sunday

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 07:55:00 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies C Carlos Ruiz will bat sixth against New York Mets SP Matt Harvey Sunday, April 10. C Cameron Rupp is being given the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Ruiz is receiving the starting nod behind the plate because the Phils are playing a day game following a night game. He is 3-for-7 with a home run and two RBIs in two games this season but does not have a favorable matchup versus Harvey, with just one hit in seven career at-bats versus the right-hander.

Phillies | Cameron Rupp to remain primary catcher

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 17:25:06 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies C Cameron Rupp is still expected to see the bulk of the playing time behind the plate for the team this season, even though C Carlos Ruiz started on opening day.

Fantasy Tip: The 27-year-old Rupp hit .233 with nine home runs and 28 RBIs in 270 at-bats last season and is considered to be superior offensively to Ruiz at this stage of his career, although he is not as polished on defense. He should only be used in daily fantasy games when he has a favorable matchup.

Phillies | Cameron Rupp behind the plate

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 17:18:17 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies C Cameron Rupp is catching and batting sixth against Miami Marlins SP Justin Nicolino in Game 2 of a doubleheader Saturday, Oct. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Rupp ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is hitting .328 against lefties, so he could make a solid source of cap relief at FantasyScore against Nicolino ($6,200, 12.4% of cap).
