Athletics | Marcus Semien remains the SS

Wed, 25 Nov 2015 10:41:44 -0800

Oakland Athletics SS Marcus Semien remains the team's starting shortstop, according to assistant general manager David Forst.

Fantasy Tip: Newly acquired Jed Lowrie may have to squeeze in at third. Semien had a decent year with a .257-15-45 line with 11 steals, and he'll be a MI consideration in mixed leagues.

Fantasy Tip: The 25-year-old shortstop had a solid season, and he bounced back strongly from a significant mid-season slump. Dating back to Saturday, Aug. 1, Semien ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) owns a .284/.354.483 slash line with 27 runs and 23 RBI through 51 games. He checks out as a low-end middle infield option for mixed leagues next season.

Athletics | Marcus Semien out Friday

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 17:04:33 -0700

Oakland Athletics SS Marcus Semien is not in the starting lineup against Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma Friday, Oct. 2. INF Eric Sogard will bat eighth and play shortstop.

Fantasy Tip: Remove Semien ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) from your fantasy lineups. Sogard ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is 4-for-13 with seven RBIs over the past seven days and is 5-for-17 versus Iwakuma in his career with a pair of doubles. FantasyScore owners looking for a productive source of cap relief should consider him tonight.

Athletics | Brett Lawrie starting at second base

Sat, 26 Sep 2015 11:20:31 -0700

Oakland Athletics INF Brett Lawrie will bat seventh and play second base against San Francisco Giants SP Tim Hudson Saturday, Sept. 26. INF Eric Sogard, who played second base Friday, Sept. 25, will play shortstop Saturday, with SS Marcus Semien receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Although Lawrie ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is 3-for-5 against Hudson in his career, FantasyScore owners may want to think twice about using him. He is just 2-for-20 at the plate over the past seven days.

Athletics | Marcus Semien sitting against Texas

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 15:09:20 -0700

Oakland Athletics SS Marcus Semien is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 23. 2B Eric Sogard is starting at shortstop and batting eighth against Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Semien ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats Wednesday. He is having a respectable sophomore season, but Semien shouldn't be confused as anything more than a low-end shortstop option in deep mixed leagues. Sogard ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) has a .573 OPS through the past two seasons, and he is nothing more than a desperation flier at FantasyScore Wednesday.

Sogard ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) owns a .209/.269/.272 slash line in limited playing time since the All-Star break, and he is nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief Friday.

Athletics | Marcus Semien resting vs. Seattle

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 15:01:54 -0700

Oakland Athletics SS Marcus Semien is not in the starting lineup Monday, Aug. 24. 2B Eric Sogard is starting at the 6 and is hitting ninth against Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma.

Fantasy Tip: Sogard ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) has very little power and is batting .244 (78-for-320) with no home runs and 26 RBI this year and he's facing a pitcher coming off a no-hit performance last week. Avoid Sogard on FantasyScore.
