Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Mark Ellis could be replaced as the starting second baseman in 2014 if the team determines 2B Alexander Guerrero is ready for the big leagues. Ellis' contract expired, but includes a club option for 2014 at $5.75 million or a $1 million buyout. "We'll see," general manager Ned Colletti said Tuesday, Oct. 22. "I think Mark Ellis did a tremendous job here. I think Mark Ellis has value to this organization, with or without Guerrero."

The Los Angeles Dodgers want 2B Alexander Guerrero to play winter ball to get a better evaluation of how ready he is to step into the big leagues. If he is ready, he could replace 2B Mark Ellis at second base in 2014.
Fantasy Tip: Guerrero never hit lower than .290 in seven seasons in Cuba's Serie Nacional, posting 81 home runs in 327 career games. But Major League Baseball is a different animal. Still, fantasy owners will want to keep close tabs on him during the winter. He could make a nice long-term keeper option going forward.
