Phillies | Maikel Franco starting at third

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 17:14:47 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco is starting at third base and batting third against Miami Marlins SP Justin Nicolino in Game 2 of a doubleheader Saturday, Oct. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Franco will be making his first start since Aug. 11, and considering he is hitting just .206 against lefties this year, it is best to avoid him.

Phillies | Maikel Franco not starting Game 1

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 10:43:56 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco (wrist) is not in the starting lineup against SP Tom Koehler for the first game of a doubleheader against the Miami Marlins Saturday, Oct. 3. 3B/OF Cody Asche will bat fifth and play the hot corner.

Fantasy Tip: Franco is available to play this weekend, although it is unknown if he will start any games or just be available off the bench. It's too much of a risk for fantasy owners to rely on him during the final days of the regular season.

Phillies | Maikel Franco set to play this weekend

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 17:00:24 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco (wrist) will rejoin the team Thursday, Oct. 1, and will be available to play this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: It's not even a sure thing that Franco does anything more than pinch hit here or there, so he's certainly not worth the risk on FantasyScore. The promising rookie third baseman hasn't played since Aug. 11.

Phillies | Maikel Franco set to face live pitching

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 14:10:42 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco (wrist) will fly to the spring training facility at Clearwater, Fla. Thursday, Sept. 17, to face live pitching. He could join the Phillies during their upcoming road trip, which begins Friday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Franco ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) to return to the Phillies sometime next week, but it is unlikely he has the same success down the stretch as he did earlier this season. Philadelphia has shipped out talent, and they're struggling significantly offensively. Franco is a low-end option at third base in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Phillies | Maikel Franco might take live BP

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 20:18:14 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco (wrist) might take live batting practice Wednesday, Sept. 16. Barring any setbacks, he might head to Class A Clearwater to face live pitching. If that goes well, he might re-join the big club for a road series next week against the Miami Marlins.

Fantasy Tip: Franco ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is an exciting young player, but the clock is ticking and he might only be able to return for a handful of games before the curtain closes on the 2015 season.

Phillies | Maikel Franco takes swings

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 19:21:01 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco (wrist) took pain-free swings Wednesday, Sept. 9, and still hopes to play again before the end of the season.

Fantasy Tip: If Franco ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) had experienced any pain during Wednesday's workout, he almost certainly would have been shut down for the season, so this news provides a glimmer of hope for fantasy owners. Keep checking back occasionally for more updates on his status.

Phillies | Maikel Franco to be slowed down

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 17:39:04 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco (wrist) will have his rehab slowed down after he swung a bat Wednesday, Sept. 2, but still experienced symptoms from his broken wrist.

Fantasy Tip: It's becoming increasingly unlikely that Franco ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) will play again this season, although fantasy owners should continue to stash him if they can, in the event that his condition suddenly improves. Andres Blanco ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) will continue to receive most of the playing time at the hot corner for Philadelphia.

Phillies | Maikel Franco likely to return

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 20:36:38 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco (wrist) is expected to return to action later this season, according to interim manager Pete Mackanin.

Fantasy Tip: About a week ago, it appeared as though Franco ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) might be finished for the season, so this is good news for fantasy owners. Andres Blanco ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) will continue to receive most of the starts at the hot corner for the Phils until he returns.

Phillies | Maikel Franco takes grounders

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 22:50:57 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco (wrist) was able to grounders before the game Tuesday, Aug. 25, against the New York Mets. However, no timetable has been set for Franco's return.

Fantasy Tip: Franco ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore until he can officially return and prove his health in back-to-back games without any setbacks.

Phillies | Maikel Franco done for the year?

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 16:05:59 -0700

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco (wrist) could miss the rest of the season with a non-displaced fracture in his left wrist. He was put on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, Aug. 18. The Phillies said they will be "cautious" with Franco for the rest of the year, and he'll wear a splint for the next two to three weeks before he's evaluated, according to general manager Ruben Amaro Jr.

Fantasy Tip: Franco ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) has been one of the most promising youngsters in baseball this season and was in the running for Rookie of the Year. Dumping him in shallow leagues if you don't have the room isn't a terrible idea. Cesar Hernandez ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is having a fine season himself and should see most of the starts at third base. He's effective as a value pick on FantasyScore, mainly for his speed.
