Phillies | Cody Asche destined for left field?

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 14:30:03 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Cody Asche shagged fly balls in left field during batting practice Tuesday, April 28. With prospect 3B Maikel Franco expected to join the Phillies this season, Asche might relocate to left field. "At some point we need to make sure that Cody is prepared," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said Wednesday, April 29. "It's no secret that Maikel is doing very well down there. We want to try to create as much versatility with our guys as we possibly can."

Fantasy Tip: While Asche ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has a respectable .303 batting average for the season, his four runs, two home runs and three RBI leave a lot to be desired in the counting stats. He cannot be started in the majority of seasonal leagues, and he makes for a risky FantasyScore play with such little upside. Until the Phillies start to score more runs, Asche's fantasy impact will be limited, despite his solid average.

Phillies | Maikel Franco raking at Class AAA

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 14:20:28 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco is hitting .333 (28-for-84) with 10 doubles, one triple, one home run, 11 RBIs and an .883 OPS through 19 games with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Fantasy Tip: Franco will land in Philadelphia this season, and if it is after May 15, he won't be eligible for free agency until 2021. Super 2 salary arbitration status could be another factor, which could keep Franco with Lehigh Valley until the first week of July. In deep leagues, it may be time to stash the masher now, however there are no guarantees he hits the ground running at the major league level.

Phillies | Maikel Franco sent down

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 05:45:33 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco was optioned to minor league camp Friday, March 20.

Fantasy Tip: Franco is a player to keep on your watch list, and he could be up in the first couple of months. Cody Asche ($3,300; 6.6% of your cap) will post up at third base and is a low-end option on FantasyScore.

Phillies | Maikel Franco struggling in the spring

Thu, 19 Mar 2015 16:54:00 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco entered Thursday, March 19, with just six singles in 29 at-bats (.207 average). Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg stated Franco needs to make some adjustments and looks like he's "over-swinging."

Fantasy Tip: Franco appears ticketed for a return trip to Triple-A. He makes contact at a high rate for a power-hitting prospect, so a fast start could result in an early-season promotion. Franco is a late-round sleeper in deep mixed leagues and a stash candidate in NL-only formats.

Phillies | Maikel Franco likely headed to Class AAA

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 14:35:02 -0800

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco is expected to begin the season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, but he will receive repetitions at both third base and first base during spring training, according to manager Ryne Sandberg. "He had an outstanding winter ball, so I'm anxious to see him," Sandberg said.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Franco to make his debut with the Phillies at some point this season, and potentially sooner than later. He is likely undraftable in the majority of seasonal leagues, unless he catches serious traction during spring training. Still, he is a player to keep tabs on and is worth a speculative add when he appears close to being recalled to the majors.

Phillies | Cody Asche to play OF?

Mon, 02 Feb 2015 15:56:53 -0800

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Cody Asche is seeing some repetitions in the outfield in Florida before the official start of spring training. However, the team still views Asche as their starting third baseman heading into the season, according to general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. A position switch has been rumored for Asche for years, and the team is short on position-player prospects, aside from 3B Maikel Franco. Amaro thinks Asche has the athleticism to move positions if it's in the club's best interest. Franco will be with the team in spring training after hitting .337 with four home runs and 16 RBI in 22 playoff games in the Dominican Winter League.
