Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco is expected to begin the season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, but he will receive repetitions at both third base and first base during spring training, according to manager Ryne Sandberg. "He had an outstanding winter ball, so I'm anxious to see him," Sandberg said.
Fantasy Tip: Expect Franco to make his debut with the Phillies at some point this season, and potentially sooner than later. He is likely undraftable in the majority of seasonal leagues, unless he catches serious traction during spring training. Still, he is a player to keep tabs on and is worth a speculative add when he appears close to being recalled to the majors.

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Cody Asche is seeing some repetitions in the outfield in Florida before the official start of spring training. However, the team still views Asche as their starting third baseman heading into the season, according to general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. A position switch has been rumored for Asche for years, and the team is short on position-player prospects, aside from 3B Maikel Franco. Amaro thinks Asche has the athleticism to move positions if it's in the club's best interest. Franco will be with the team in spring training after hitting .337 with four home runs and 16 RBI in 22 playoff games in the Dominican Winter League.

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco went 0-for-2 with two fly-outs at the 2014 All-Star Futures Game Sunday, July 13. However, he may be coming up to the majors soon. Franco is hitting .390 in 41 at-bats in July with nine extra-base hits in nine contests. General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. told reporters last week that Franco may be an option if his bat heats up, and that he's looking to make changes to the Phillies' lineup. He noted that Franco also could play first base.
Fantasy Tip: He could challenge Cody Asche for work at third base and even Ryan Howard for PAs at first. Franco is worth tucking away if you need CI help in deep mixed games.

Philadelphia Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. indicated that he doesn't feel 3B Maikel Franco is ready to come up to the majors, even with 3B Cody Asche (hamstring) on the disabled list. "He's just not playing good enough baseball yet," Ruben Amaro Jr. said. "He's not really ready to be a big leaguer yet." Franco is hitting .231 with four home runs, 19 RBIs and a .669 OPS with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. INF Cesar Hernandez continues to play third base with Asche out.
Fantasy Tip: The Phils don't want to rush one of their top prospects. Can you blame them? Francisco could easily be up later this summer or as a September call-up, but don't feel the urgency just yet to add him and stash him on your roster.
