Washington Nationals SP Ross Detwiler (back) was throwing 94-96 mph during the instructional league during his rehab, and he feels great about his health heading into spring training next year. However, he'll have to compete for a rotation spot after the team added SP Doug Fister in a trade. SPs Taylor Jordan, Tanner Roark, Ross Ohlendorf, Nathan Karns and Sammy Solis are other options to compete with Detwiler. He could also serve as a lefty reliever out of the bullpen.

Washington Nationals SP Ross Ohlendorf (shoulder) will toss 80 to 85 pitches in a rehab start for Single-A Potomac Friday, Aug. 16, and he is expected to return to the rotation if he avoids setbacks. Ohlendorf could replace SP Taylor Jordan in the starting rotation.

The Washington Nationals recalled P Tanner Roark from Triple-A Syracuse Tuesday, Aug. 6, and moved SP Ross Detwiler (back) to the 60-day disabled list in a corresponding move. Roark was 9-3 with a 3.15 ERA in 105 2/3 innings (11 starts and 22 relief appearances) at Syracuse this year. SP Taylor Jordan has two or three starts left before he's shut down, so Roark could be an option for the rotation.
Fantasy Tip: Roark would only be an option for NL-only leaguers if he gets a shot at a rotation post in the nation's capital.

Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg will receive the first start after the All-Star break and will be followed by SPs Gio Gonzalez, Jordan Zimmermann and Dan Haren. The team is hoping SP Ross Detwiler (back) will be able to make the fifth start but will use SP Taylor Jordan if Detwiler is not ready.

Washington Nationals SP Taylor Jordan has held opponents to a .130 batting average (3-for-23) in his first time through a lineup. The second go-around, the opposition is hitting .308 against him, and hitters are batting a whopping .533 (8-for-15) the third time through. He is worried about pitch tipping. "I've noticed that they're picking up, I think, on whenever I hold the ball behind my back," Jordan said. "I think they're starting to notice (my grip) so I need to change that or do something."
Fantasy Tip: Jordan is set to start again Sunday against the Miami Marlins, but his future in the rotation is murky after that with Ross Detwiler likely to return after the All-Star break. He is only worth using in NL-only fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams at this juncture.
