Reds | Michael Lorenzen has setback

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 14:47:22 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Michael Lorenzen (elbow, illness) had a setback in his recovery from elbow issues with a bout of mononucleosis, according to manager Bryan Price.

Fantasy Tip: Lorenzen is pretty far behind at this point after making just one spring start. He's still in the process of adjusting to life as a major league starter, so he'll be a work in progress all year. Owners will need to be patient. At best, he's a stash option in deeper NL-only leagues.

Reds | Michael Lorenzen had PRP injection

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 22:41:14 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Michael Lorenzen (elbow) has yet to resume throwing due to a strained elbow. He was recently given a platelet-rich plasma injection to help with his healing.

Fantasy Tip: Lorenzen has been limited to just one spring start, so he is not likely to be ready to start the season with the big club. He has a little upside, but the Reds are expected to be pretty poor and his fantasy appeal is rather minimal at this time.

Reds | Michael Lorenzen shut down for two weeks

Sun, 20 Mar 2016 00:49:12 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Michael Lorenzen (elbow) will not pitch for a couple of weeks as he recovers from a mild UCL sprain in his throwing elbow.

Fantasy Tip: This is just confirmation Lorenzen will not be ready for the start of the season, and that you should look elsewhere. Lorenzen will be no better than an SP option off your bench at this rate.

Reds | Michael Lorenzen receives bad news

Tue, 15 Mar 2016 16:21:50 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Michael Lorenzen (elbow) was diagnosed with a mild strain and tendinitis in his right elbow, and he will not be ready for opening day.

Fantasy Tip: This latest injury news cements the fact that Lorenzen isn't a good candidate for any fantasy roster to begin the year.

Reds | Michael Lorenzen to have MRI

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 17:44:21 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Michael Lorenzen (elbow) will undergo an MRI on his right elbow. He rested three days after he was unable to make a scheduled start, but felt discomfort when trying to play catch on Sunday, March 13. Manager Bryan Price said Lorenzen is "not great" and the MRI is being conducted to determine if there is any structural damage.

Fantasy Tip: Uh oh, this sounds like ominous news for the 24-year-old right-hander. Lorenzen wasn't good last year in his rookie campaign, going 4-9 with a 5.40 ERA in 21 starts and six relief appearances, so even if he manages to escape this ordeal unscathed, he won't be a fantasy option, except for maybe the deepest of NL-only leagues. And even that's a generous proclamation concerning his outlook.

Reds | Michael Lorenzen to work in bullpen

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 20:38:23 -0700

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds SP Michael Lorenzen is likely to have made his final start of the season Wednesday, Sept. 16, against the San Francisco Giants. However, manager Bryan Price wants him to be available in relief. "I'd like him to be available to pitch out of the bullpen so he can continue to pitch in the month of September," Price said. "It wouldn't be a big workload but his availability is important, I think. It's important for him to finish the season active."

Fantasy Tip: Active or non-active, if Lorenzen ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) isn't starting he can be struck off of your FantasyScore list.

Reds | Michael Lorenzen could be shut down soon

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 17:15:19 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Michael Lorenzen could be making his final start of the year against the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, Sept. 16. He has thrown 105 2/3 innings and is close to reaching his limit for the season.

Fantasy Tip: Lorenzen ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is 1-0 with a 3.48 ERA through two starts this month, after going 0-2 with a 12.27 ERA in August. FantasyScore owners who would prefer to spend the bulk of their cap money on offense should consider using him tonight.

Reds | Michael Lorenzen optioned

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 17:57:36 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Michael Lorenzen will be optioned to Class AAA Louisville Thursday, Aug. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Lorenzen ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) had allowed 23 earned runs over his past four starts, and he lasted longer than five innings just twice in that span. Season-long owners are free to drop him.

Reds | Michael Lorenzen struggling mightily

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 22:49:10 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Michael Lorenzen is scheduled to start Thursday, Aug. 6, against the St. Louis Cardinals. He is looking for his first win since June 21. He is 0-4 over his past six starts and he has been hit hard in the past three outings, allowing 17 runs in 13 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Lorenzen ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) comes with a cheap price tag, but he has been terrible lately. Avoid him in FantasyScore, especially against a good offense.

Reds | Cincy youngsters to be limited

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 16:31:34 -0700

Cincinnati Reds manager Bryan Price said all of the team's young pitchers, including SPs Anthony DeSclafani, Michael Lorenzen, Raisel Iglesias, David Holmberg, Keyvius Sampson, Robert Stephenson, Brandon Finnegan and John Lamb will have their innings monitored as the season wears on. "The biggest challenge is for a lot of guys who will be considered for call-ups for September or even earlier. We'll have guys who don't have that first major-league season where they pitched in September and had a chance to take their workload from 145 innings or 150 to 175 or 185. We'll have a lot of guys who we'll have to be cautious with their innings."

Fantasy Tip: That's not what owners of any of these pitchers want to hear, but it's a reality that often affects all young pitchers and their fantasy owners as the season winds down. On FantasyScore, none of the Reds young pitchers is ever a slam dunk, and their daily value will likely only continue to plummet if they are kept on pitch counts or innings limits.
