Browns | Cleveland likely to draft quarterback?

Thu, 11 Feb 2016 15:28:03 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown is the starting quarterback for the Browns as of now. QB Johnny Manziel will be on his way out next month, too, which causes Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer to believe the Browns will take a quarterback with their No. 2 overall pick, namely California QB Jared Goff or North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz.

Fantasy Tip: No one's finger presses harder on the pulse of the Browns than Cabot's. McCown is a supbar veteran quarterback whose NFL career may be done in the near future, and Manziel has proven time and again that he's not the answer for the future. If Cleveland doesn't sign a bona fide free-agent quarterback, it's hard to imagine the Browns using their No. 2 pick on another position.

Browns | Cleveland refutes Manziel story

Tue, 09 Feb 2016 11:56:27 -0800

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel was allegedly drunk at a practice last season and the Browns allegedly covered it up by saying he had a concussion. The Browns are denying the report. A Browns spokesman said Johnny Manziel came to the team facility on the morning of December 30 and complained of concussion symptoms. The spokesman also said that Manziel was tested by an independent neurologist and entered the NFL's concussion protocol. He then remained in the protocol until January 12 after being cleared by the neurologist.

Fantasy Tip: It's been quite the career already for Johnny Manziel already, unfortunately mostly because of his off-field goings-on. Manziel is expected to be released by the Browns early next month.

Browns | Teammate says Manziel drunk at practice

Tue, 09 Feb 2016 09:34:05 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel allegedly showed up drunk to a practice late in the season on a Wednesday, and the team tried to cover it up by saying he was in the concussion protocol, according to one Browns player.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel is likely to be cut next month, and he has no fantasy value right now.

Browns | Johnny Manziel facing criminal investigation

Mon, 08 Feb 2016 16:14:56 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel's ex-girlfriend issued an affidavit that said Manziel hit her so hard during a late-night confrontation that she lost hearing in one ear. Colleen Crowley suffered a ruptured eardrum, which is expected to heal eventually. She is seeking to obtain a protective order against Manziel. Manziel is currently under criminal investigation on allegations of domestic violence.

"Fearful for my life, I hit (Manziel) several times, hoping I could back out of the car," she said in the affidavit, adding Manziel "threw me off of him and I hit my head on the car window and I fell into the passenger floorboard."

Fantasy Tip: Manziel's career is wobbly right now, at best. The Browns are expected to release him in March, and no teams are likely to be willing to take a chance on him amid this controversy and a possible suspension from the league. Manziel doesn't have any fantasy value at the moment.

Browns | Cleveland unable to reach Johnny Manziel

Fri, 05 Feb 2016 13:45:38 -0800

Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam has been unable to reach QB Johnny Manziel in the wake of his off-field incident last weekend in which his ex-girlfriend claimed that he hit her several times and appeared to be on drugs. "We're not worried about Johnny Manziel the football player, we're worried about Johnny Manziel the person, and I think that's all we need to say on the issue," Haslam said. Haslam "appeared frustrated" and "emotional." Manziel will not face charges for the incident.

Fantasy Tip: The Browns are fully prepared to release Manziel next month amid his off-field problems, and given the latest development last weekend with his ex-girlfriend, not many NFL teams are likely to want to take a chance on him. There's a chance Manziel never plays in the NFL again. His fantasy value takes a back seat to his personal health and well-being.

Browns | Johnny Manziel's family worried

Fri, 05 Feb 2016 09:28:14 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel's father, Paul Manziel, said Johnny has twice declined to be admitted to area rehabilitation facilities in the last week. Paul Manziel said he's worried about his son's well being. "I truly believe if they can't get him help, he won't live to see his 24th birthday," Manziel said.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel has no fantasy value right now as he clearly has things to address before worrying about his football career.

Browns | Johnny Manziel's agent drops him

Fri, 05 Feb 2016 09:27:02 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel's agent, Erik Burkhardt, has cut ties with him Friday, Feb. 5. Last month, Cleveland Cavaliers star forward LeBron James dropped Manziel from James' LRMR marketing firm.

Fantasy Tip: The news keeps getting more grim for Manziel. He has no fantasy prowess right now.

Browns | Johnny Manziel won't be charged

Thu, 04 Feb 2016 17:02:42 -0800

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel will not be charged for an incident involving his ex-girlfriend last weekend. The investigation is closed.

Fantasy Tip: This is somewhat of a mysterious result considering the alleged account detailed by Manziel's ex-girlfriend earlier, but it's good news for Manziel, for now. He's likely still facing a release by the Browns in early March, though, so continue to keep him off your fantasy radar.

Browns | Plot thickens for Johnny Manziel

Thu, 04 Feb 2016 15:43:26 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel allegedly struck his ex-girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, several times Saturday, Jan. 30. Crowley said she believed Manziel may have been on drugs or having a psychotic breakdown at the time of the incident.

Fantasy Tip: Much has been made of Manziel's off-field antics throughout his young career. This latest episode may be the nail in the coffin for Manziel's future in Cleveland, and possibly his future in the NFL. You can disregard him for the foreseeable future.

Browns | Trades for Johnny Manziel unlikely

Tue, 02 Feb 2016 14:02:34 -0800

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel will be cut March 9, according to a source, as reported earlier. The Browns will entertain any late-round trade offers for Manziel, but they don't expect that to transpire, especially after Manziel's off-field antics.

Fantasy Tip: It shouldn't be a big surprise if nobody courts Manziel prior to his inevitable release. He's just too big of a risky right now, and he probably wouldn't even start if someone did sign him. Keep him on your league's waivers.

Cowboys | Dallas unlikely to sign Johnny Manziel

Tue, 02 Feb 2016 13:43:07 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel is unlikely to sign with the Dallas Cowboys if he is released by the Browns, according to ESPNDallas.com's Todd Archer. Archer said the Cowboys need a reliable backup quarterback, and that it's hard to imagine Dallas signing Manziel for such a need.

Fantasy Tip: The Cowboys have been the team most heavily rumored to possibly sign Manziel if/when the Browns let him go. Manziel's off-field problems could be a big hindrance in him signing with another team. Again, as of now, he has not fantasy value.

Browns | Teams interested in Johnny Manziel

Tue, 02 Feb 2016 11:21:39 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel said three teams have shown interest in him: the Los Angeles Rams, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Dallas Cowboys. The Rams were interested in Manziel during the NFL Draft and the Chiefs apparently have no interest in him now. Manziel and the Cowboys have been rumored for a while, and Dallas may be Manziel's best bet if he is indeed released by the Browns.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel probably won't start if he is released and subsequently signed, which would give him no fantasy value. He would likely wait in the wings for his chance to start, but he won't be on the fantasy radar any time soon.

Browns | Johnny Manziel likely gone in March

Tue, 02 Feb 2016 09:44:27 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel will be released after the new league year begins March 9, according to a source. Releasing Manziel this month would count $4.6 million against the salary cap. The Browns released a statement from new director of football operations Sashi Brown Tuesday, Feb. 2, that expressed disappointment in Manziel for his latest off-field incident, but stopped short of saying his run in Cleveland is over.
"We've been clear about expectations for our players on and off the field. Johnny's continual involvement in incidents that run counter to those expectations undermines the hard work of his teammates and the reputation of our organization," he said. "His status with our team will be addressed when permitted by league rules. We will have no further comment at this time."

Fantasy Tip: Manziel has no fantasy value right now, but he'll likely latch on with another team. If he has a chance to earn a starting job, he's worth watching in fantasy.

Browns | Johnny Manziel investigation ongoing

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 12:28:17 -0800

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel is still being investigated for a possible assault of an ex-girlfriend Saturday, Jan. 30. The investigation is ongoing, and it is the second time in as many months that the NFL has investigated Manziel for a domestic incident.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel's future in Cleveland wasn't looking bright anyway, but if he is convicted in this incident then that will probably be the nail in the coffin. If Manziel is eventually let go, these off-field occurrences may hinder prospective teams from pursuing the embattled quarterback. His status will need to be monitored over the next few weeks and throughout the offseason, but he's nowhere near starting fantasy quarterback material right now.

Browns | Johnny Manziel has altercation

Sat, 30 Jan 2016 10:20:31 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel was involved in an altercation with his girlfriend Saturday, Jan. 30. Manziel was not arrested, but police made an information report regarding the incident. A spokeswoman for the Fort Worth Police Department said police were still gathering information and that they will release more information later. Manziel and his girlfriend were involved in a domestic dispute in October of last year, but no arrests were made then, either.

Fantasy Tip: This is just the next chapter in Manziel's embattle off-field life. This incident doesn't sound terribly serious, but it could be another strike for Manziel with the Browns. Many believe Manziel was on his way out of Cleveland anyway under the new coaching regime, this could be another step in that direction.

Browns | Johnny Manziel situation fixable?

Fri, 29 Jan 2016 09:04:39 -0800

Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam thinks the situation with QB Johnny Manziel is fixable. However, new head coach Hue Jackson made it clear when he interviewed for the job that he wanted the team to move on from Manziel, according to a source. Haslam has been non-committal about Manziel's future.

Fantasy Tip: As things stand right now, all signs point to the Browns moving on from Manziel this offseason. But things can change. Either way, Manziel will have to compete to win a starting job if he stays in Cleveland, and he'd likely be in line for a backup role if he goes somewhere else. His fantasy value is extremely murky, at best, heading into 2016.

Browns | No meetings with Johnny Manziel yet

Thu, 28 Jan 2016 09:24:51 -0800

Cleveland Browns new head coach Hue Jackson has yet to meet with QB Johnny Manziel, and Manziel hasn't tried to reach out to the team's new head coach in the two weeks since he's been hired. "There's no rhyme or reason why I haven't talked to him, but it's just the process I'm in right now. I'm just kind of picking the guys as I go," Jackson said. Jackson has studied tape of Manziel and knows that he's athletic and can succeed in the NFL, but he suggested that talent alone doesn't make a quarterback.

Fantasy Tip: It's widely anticipated that Jackson and the Browns will move on from Manziel this offseason in the wake of his transgressions off the field. Jackson reportedly doesn't want to continue on with Manziel in Cleveland. He has the talent, but he needs to put it all together to be consistent and to have a shot to start somewhere. It's likely that he'll be competing for a backup role somewhere else in 2016, which doesn't make him at all intriguing in fantasy.

Cowboys | Dallas to make QB splash?

Wed, 27 Jan 2016 07:54:55 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel and Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III are options for the Dallas Cowboys as former Cowboys QB Troy Aikman believes owner Jerry Jones will make a splash at the position in the offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Both quarterbacks would enter the equation as backups, but Tony Romo's age and health could give them upside. Keep them on your watch lists.

Browns | Cleveland not rushing Manziel decision

Thu, 21 Jan 2016 10:24:07 -0800

The Cleveland Browns are in "no panic" to make a quick decision on the future of QB Johnny Manziel, according to new vice president of football operations Sashi Brown. The Browns will also assess the future of suspended WR Josh Gordon once they know if he'll be reinstated by commissioner Roger Goodell.

Fantasy Tip: The overriding belief is that Manziel has no future in Cleveland, and new head coach Hue Jackson isn't believed to be high on him. Time will tell, but Manziel has the physical traits to be successful in the NFL. He could find more success with another organization, and the Dallas Cowboys are rumored to be a possible destination if he becomes available.

Browns | Johnny Manziel healthy, fined

Thu, 21 Jan 2016 09:47:30 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (concussion) has cleared the concussion protocol, according to team official Sashi Brown. Manziel was fined for missing a treatment Jan. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel is as good as gone from Cleveland and doesn't have much fantasy relevance unless he wins a starting job somewhere in camp.

Browns | Johnny Manziel of little interest

Wed, 13 Jan 2016 16:29:04 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel would be of little interest to 31 of 32 NFL teams if he were to be released by the Browns, as is expected under new head coach Hue Jackson. The St. Louis Rams were the only team who may express medium interest in Manziel, according to ESPN.com's Nick Wagoner.

Browns | Hue Jackson not on board with Manziel

Wed, 13 Jan 2016 10:14:30 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel is unlikely to stay with the Browns as new head coach Hue Jackson made it clear that he'd want to move on from him before taking the job, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel could land in a spot to compete for a starting position, but he's a watch list player in fantasy.

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel is scheduled to earn $1.169 million in base salary in 2016, plus a signing bonus of $1.079 million. He will carry a total charge of $2.249 million and would cost the Browns to carry $4.624 million in dead cap space if he were to be released.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel could be released or traded in the offseason and could be a QB2 option in fantasy if he lands in the right spot.

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (concussion) was sent home from practice Wednesday, Dec. 30, because he showed up "disheveled and inebriated," according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel is probably done in Cleveland. Someone could pick him up and try to salvage something out of him, but his fantasy prospects are toast right now.

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (concussion) did not show up to the team's facility Sunday, Jan. 3, and the team could not reach him on the phone.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel was ruled out, but it is still not a good sign that he was AWOL and did not check in. He is likely done in Cleveland, but it's hard to imagine the Browns getting much in return for him. Johnny Football wants to be a member of the Dallas Cowboys, and he might get his wish.

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (concussion), WR Marlon Moore (concussion), CB Tramon Williams (concussion) and RB Glenn Winston (concussion) have been ruled out of the Week 17 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. LB Karlos Dansby (toe), OT Joe Thomas (knee), RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) and CB K'Waun Williams (shoulder) are listed as questionable for the game, and DE Desmond Bryant (thumb) is probable. DE Randy Starks (non-injury) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and was not included on the team's injury report. Manziel, Moore, T. Williams, Winston and Dansby did not practice Friday. Thomas, Mostert and K. Williams were limited, and Bryant fully participated in practice Friday.

Browns | Johnny Manziel needs work

Thu, 31 Dec 2015 11:43:59 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel's off-field issues will need to be addressed this offseason if he wants to be their quarterback of the future, according to head coach Mike Pettine. Manziel's propensity for posting videos of himself drinking is a major issue for the Browns, especially considering that Manziel spent 73 days in inpatient addiction rehabilitation last offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) has already been ruled out for Week 17 with a concussion, but his status goes beyond this week obviously. He has shown that he is capable of being the Browns' quarterback of the future, but his off-field antics have put him in a negative light. As for this week, Austin Davis ($4,500, 9.0%) is a decent flyer on FantasyScore against a susceptible Pittsburgh Steelers defense.

Browns | Johnny Manziel ruled out

Thu, 31 Dec 2015 09:42:07 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (concussion) has officially been ruled out for the season finale in Week 17 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to head coach Mike Pettine. Manziel is in the league's concussion protocol. QB Austin Davis will start with QB Pat Devlin as the backup.

Fantasy Tip: The Steelers have been a top-10 fantasy matchup for opposing quarterbacks all year with their weak secondary, but putting your faith in Davis ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) doesn't make any sense on FantasyScore. Look elsewhere and pass up Cleveland's other skill offensive positions, too.

Thu, 31 Dec 2015 08:43:13 -0800

Updating previous reports, Cleveland Browns QB Austin Davis will start in place of QB Johnny Manziel (concussion) Sunday, Jan. 3, against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) isn't a good start on FantasyScore in the finale.

Browns | Johnny Manziel expected to sit out

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 14:16:49 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (concussion) is not expected to play in Week 17 against the Pittsburgh Steelers after going in the concussion protocol Wednesday, Dec. 30. QB Austin Davis is expected to start in Manziel's place.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel would've been a deep sleeper candidate on FantasyScore had he played, but you can forget about that now. Davis ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is facing a vulnerable secondary for the Steelers, but that's not enough to want to have him in your daily lineups.

Browns | Johnny Manziel has concussion

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 12:31:53 -0800

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (concussion) has been diagnosed with a concussion, and his status for Week 17 against the Pittsburgh Steelers is now in question.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is facing a pretty nice matchup if he actually plays, but with that being in question now, he's too much of a risk on FantasyScore. Make sure to downgrade any Browns receivers if Austin Davis ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is forced to start.

Browns | Johnny Manziel to start if cleared

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 10:16:51 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (concussion) will start in Week 17 against the Pittsburgh Steelers if he's cleared to play while in the concussion protocol. If Manziel can't go, QB Austin Davis would make his second start of the year ahead of QB Terrelle Pryor.

Fantasy Tip: Keep an eye on Manziel's ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) progress in the next few days. If he looks good to play, he could be a deep sleeper worth considering on FantasyScore. The Steelers secondary is a big concern, and they made Ryan Mallett look great in Week 16. Plus, Manziel can make things happen with his legs, too.

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 09:05:31 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (head) is being evaluated for a concussion Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Browns | Johnny Manziel causes more concern

Mon, 28 Dec 2015 14:29:17 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel was involved in another controversial video over Christmas break, but head coach Mike Pettine has not seen the video and had no comment at the time of his conference call Monday, Dec. 28.

Fantasy Tip: This is another puzzling move by the polarizing sophomore quarterback. He was recently demoted for a video in which he was seen partying. Keep in mind Manziel had checked himself into a rehabilitation facility last offseason. For now, Manziel should remain the starting quarterback and could be a deep sleeper on FantasyScore this week versus a bottom-ten fantasy defense against the position in the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Browns | Johnny Manziel runs wild

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 17:02:49 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel completed 13 of 32 passes for 136 yards and an interception and ran 11 times for 108 yards in a 17-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 16.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel was awful throwing the ball, but his upside as a runner was on full display. However, he hadn't run for more than 35 yards prior to Week 16, so you can't bank on his scrambling ability to bail him out every week.

Browns | Johnny Manziel talks coaching staff

Thu, 24 Dec 2015 05:36:36 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel hopes the coaching staff remains unchanged to maintain familiarity and continuity for the offense entering the 2016 season.

Fantasy Tip: In Year 2, Manziel ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is already playing under his second coaching regime, and he has played significantly better this season with an 85.9 passer rating and 7-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio compared to his 42 rating and 0-2 ratio from 2014. In fantasy terms, running the same offense in 2016 would likely help him become a QB2 in two-QB formats and a worthy weekly streamer and FantasyScore play in favorable matchups.

Cleveland Browns WR Terrelle Pryor has impressed the team with the chemistry he has developed with QB Johnny Manziel in practice.

Fantasy Tip: Pryor ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is expected to have a bigger role in the offense with Brian Hartline out of the year, but a road matchup with Seattle is not the time to take a chance on him at FantasyScore.

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (elbow) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 18, and is listed as probable for the Week 15 game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has posted solid numbers in his last two starts but will be facing a solid Seattle defense this week. Owners probably should pass on Manziel this week and look for other options.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has posted decent numbers of his last two starts but will be facing a tough Seattle Seahawks defense in Week 15. Owners should consider other options to use in their lineup since Manziel probably will struggle because of the matchup.

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (elbow) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 11, and is listed as probable for the Week 14 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) has regained the starting job and probably will have a favorable matchup against the 49ers. Manziel could be an option in certain leagues but owners in most leagues should be able to find a better option to use.

Browns | Johnny Manziel a full go

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 16:23:26 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (elbow) was a full participant in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) isn't facing a defensive juggernaut in the San Francisco 49ers in his first game back under center, but you're still going far out on a limp if you choose to run with him as your sleeper quarterback on FantasyScore.

Browns | Cleveland HC talks Johnny Manziel

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 14:33:29 -0800

Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine said he thinks he has a very good relationship with QB Johnny Manziel. Pettine said when Manziel was demoted that he was still pulling for him and that the decision wasn't personal. Pettine added that he feels both parties are moving forward.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) has a nice matchup against the San Francisco 49ers to prove he does deserve the starting quarterback job. There's always some risk in starting Manziel because of his inconsistency, but he's not a bad option this week on FantasyScore.

Browns | Johnny Manziel on short leash

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 11:38:05 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel will be on a short leash as the starting quarterback, with head coach Mike Pettine saying that "repercussions would be harsh" if Manziel has anymore off-field transgressions.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) is in line to start against the San Francisco 49ers this weekend. There remains intrigue and upside around what Manziel can do on the field, but he's much too risky to use in daily games in Week 14.

Browns | Johnny Manziel officially starting

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 11:22:08 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel will officially start in Week 14 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: Manziel ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) has a decent matchup in his return as starter this week against the 49ers, but he has still proven to be too inconsistent to rely on as a starting fantasy quarterback.
