Rangers | Alex Gonzalez shows he's human

Thu, 11 Jun 2015 16:50:45 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Alex Gonzalez allowed a run and eight hits while walking three in seven innings in a loss to the Oakland Athletics Thursday, June 11, after entering the game with 14 2/3 scoreless innings in his first two major league starts. Gonzalez had four strikeouts and now has an ERA of just 0.42 after three starts.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) entered the day with a ridiculous .116 batting average on balls in play against and a 100% left-on-base percentage. Those numbers will regress drastically, and with just 2.5 strikeouts per nine innings going into Thursday, darker days are ahead for Chi Chi. It helps that two of his first three games were against the offensively-challenged Boston Red Sox and A's. At FantasyScore and in all other leagues, be careful not to overvalue the youngster just yet.

Rangers | Alex Gonzalez looks for another win

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 17:42:13 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Alex Gonzalez is scheduled to start Thursday, June 11, against the Oakland Athletics. He has won each of his previous two starts, including a complete game win last time out in Kansas City June 5.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez ($4,700; or 9.4% of cap) is attractive to FantasyScore owners because he has won each of his two outings. However, he isnít a high strikeout pitcher, posting just four whiffs in 14 2/3 innings, and he faces a tough matchup on the road. Start him at your own peril, as a bad outing could be just around the corner.

Rangers | Alex Gonzalez shuts out Royals

Fri, 05 Jun 2015 21:48:59 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Alex Gonzalez allowed three hits and struck out two in a complete game shutout of the Kansas City Royals Friday, June 5.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has been brilliant in his first two career starts, allowing five hits and no over 14 2/3 innings. For the price, he is definitely worth taking a chance on at FantasyScore in his next start.

Rangers | Alex Gonzalez impressive in debut

Sat, 30 May 2015 20:31:53 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Alex Gonzalez allowed no runs and one hit while striking out two and walking five against the Boston Red Sox in his major league debut Saturday, May 30. He took a no-hitter into the sixth inning.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzlaez's control wasn't great, but he more than held his own in his first start. He is expected to receive at least a few more starts, and it is worth checking out his price tag when he is added to the player pool at FantasyScore.

Rangers | Alex Gonzalez to remain in rotation

Fri, 29 May 2015 17:03:29 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Alex Gonzalez will remain in the starting rotation past his start Saturday, May 30. SP Ross Detwiler (shoulder) will join the bullpen when he is activated from the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez has not been dominant in Class AAA but will receive several starts with the Rangers. Owners should see how Gonzalez pitches in a game or two before considering adding him to their roster or using him on FantasyScore.

Rangers | Alex Gonzalez to start Saturday

Fri, 29 May 2015 15:43:31 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Alex Gonzalez was officially announced as the starter against the Boston Red Sox Saturday, May 30. It will be his first major league start.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez will come very cheap on FantasyScore tomorrow. The former first-rounder in 2013 was 3-5 with a 4.15 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 43 1/3 innings at Class AAA Round Rock. The strikeout numbers leave something to be desired, but he could stick in the rotation for a bit if he pitches well. It's best to avoid him in daily contests tomorrow. He's worth a speculative add in deep AL-only leagues.

Rangers | Alex Gonzalez likely to start Saturday

Thu, 28 May 2015 16:39:40 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Alex Gonzalez is likely to be called up from Class AAA Round Rock to make the start against the Boston Red Sox Saturday, May 30. Gonzalez was the team's first-round draft pick back in 2013, and he'll be making his major league debut. SP Phil Klein, who made two spot starts in the rotation, was optioned to Round Rock Thursday, May 28. SP Ross Detwiler (shoulder), who threw a bullpen session Tuesday, May 26, is unlikely to be ready. Gonzalez is 3-5 with a 4.15 ERA in eight starts in the minors this year, and he's given up four earned runs in his last 16 1/3 innings over three starts. He isn't likely to go over five innings with the Rangers this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez will be very cheap on FantasyScore if he comes up to make his major league debut Saturday against Boston, but he should be ignored everywhere in what's likely to be just one start for the youngster before heading back to the minors.

Rangers | Six TEX hurlers vying for rotation spot

Sun, 08 Mar 2015 12:01:20 -0700

Texas Rangers SPs Nick Tepesch, Nick Martinez, Alex Gonzalez, Anthony Ranaudo, Lisalverto Bonilla and Ross Ohlendorf are expected to compete for the final spot in the team's starting rotation.

Fantasy Tip: SPs Derek Holland, Yovani Gallardo, Colby Lewis and Ross Detwiler are expected to have the top four spots in the rotation locked up, in the wake of the injury to Yu Darvish (elbow). At this point, it appears that none of the six starters competing for the final rotation spot has an edge over the others, so keep checking back between now and the end of spring training for further updates.

Rangers | Texas continuing to look for starting pitching

Sun, 14 Dec 2014 10:41:32 -0800

Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said the team is continuing to look for starting pitching even after the acquisition of SP Ross Detwiler. "We've got a number of internal options coming to compete for a spot, all of them that we like," Daniels said. "But you can never have enough and we'll continue having conversations about adding another starter." The Rangers already have SPs Yu Darvish, Derek Holland, Colby Lewis, Detwiler, Nick Martinez and Nick Tepesch on their roster and minor league SPs Alex Gonzalez and Luke Jackson could also compete for a job during spring training.

Tue, 09 Dec 2014 11:56:22 -0800

Atlanta Braves C Evan Gattis is attracting trade interest from the Texas Rangers. However, the Braves would want P Alex Gonzalez in return, and that's a deal-breaker for Texas.
