Chicago Cubs 3B Mike Olt had three hits, including two homers, with three RBI Wednesday, March 12. The vision problems he was having last year have cleared up. He's hitting .333 this spring.
Fantasy Tip: Olt is a not-so-dark horse to earn frequent, if not full-time, at-bats at third base for the Cubbies. Luis Valbuena is the platoon majority option. Emilio Bonifacio may get time there versus southpaws. Super-prospect Kris Bryant may make his way there late in the season. But the formerly touted Texas Rangers tyke could deliver post-hype power for fantasy prospectors now that he can actually see pitches.

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2013 First Year Player Draft, is nowhere near an agreement with the organization, according to people familiar with the negotiations. Reportedly, Bryant is seeking more than the $6.7 million allotted to the No. 2 slot of the draft, while the Cubs are hoping to be closer to $6 million, in part because the No. 1 overall pick, Houston Astros SP Mark Appel, signed for $6.35 million. Scott Boras is the agent for both players, and he's apparently seeking a bonus for Bryant that's greater than Appel's.
Bryant could choose to return to play for the University of San Diego in hopes of becoming the No. 1 overall pick in 2014. Chicago is believed to be able to spend at least $7 million, based on how much of their draft allotment remains unspent. Their allotment is $10.56 million this year. If Bryant chooses not to sign, the Cubs cannot spend that money elsewhere, although they would receive a 2014 draft choice as compensation. Negotiations appear likely to push the July 15 deadline to sign draft picks.
