Cubs | Rolled ankle caused Kris Bryant's exit

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 13:36:36 -0700

Updating a previous report, Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant (ankle) rolled his ankle running the bases during the third inning of the game against the Milwaukee Brewers Thursday, April 28, which is why he left the game. He was treated by the training staff.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant may miss a game or two, but the injury doesn't appear to be serious. Reiterating a previous tip, Javier Baez and Tommy La Stella are candidates to spell Bryant at the hot corner if he misses time. Stay tuned for updates.

Cubs | Kris Bryant exits early vs. Brewers

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 13:18:08 -0700

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant (undisclosed) left the game before the fifth inning against the Milwaukee Brewers Thursday, April 28, after he was hit by a pitch for the second time during the game.

Fantasy Tip: It was likely just a precautionary exit, but you'll want to stay tuned for updates on Bryant. Should Bryant miss time, Javier Baez and Tommy La Stella project to split time at third base.

Cubs | Kris Bryant on hot streak

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 12:17:45 -0700

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant is batting .421 (8-for-19) with two home runs and eight RBI in his last four games.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant is one of the Cubs' top hitters and will be a big reason why the Cubs soar to new heights or disappoint this year (based on how his hitting goes). The odds are more likely Bryant will finish with plenty of quality stats, which is why you need him in your fantasy lineup.

Cubs | Kris Bryant hits two bombs with six RBI

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 19:42:05 -0700

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant went 4-for-6 with two home runs, six RBI and four runs scored in a 16-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds Thursday, April 21.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant's power gives him a ton of upside, and he could be worth using throughout this series in daily games against Cincinnati's shaky pitching in a hitter-friendly park.

Cubs | Kris Bryant limited to two singles

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 23:32:59 -0700

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant had a pair of singles with an RBI and run scored Monday, April 18, against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: While Bryant is hitting a respectable .250, and he has four multi-hit games this month, he hasn't had an extra-base hit in four outings and he hasn't drawn any walks during the span, either. He'll get it going soon, so don't get discouraged by the fact he has just three doubles, two homers and six RBIs to date.

Cubs | Jorge Soler out Thursday

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 11:45:51 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jorge Soler is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 14. 3B Kris Bryant is moving to left field, while 2B Tommy La Stella starts at third base and is hitting sixth against Cincinnati Reds SP Raisel Iglesias.

Fantasy Tip: Anyone in Chicago's lineup is worth a look in daily lineups, and that doesn't exclude La Stella when he sees a start. He has hits in half of his eight at-bats to begin the season. However, he's facing Cincy's ace and is more of a low-end daily pick Thursday.

Cubs | Dexter Fowler gets a day off Sunday

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 12:25:54 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Dexter Fowler is not in the lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller on Sunday, April 10. 2B Ben Zobrist will move into the leadoff spot usually occupied by Fowler, OF Jason Heyward will move from right to center and hit second and 3B Kris Bryant will shift to right and bat third. 3B Tommy La Stella will man third base and hit sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Fowler is reportedly dealing with a sore hip as a result of the collision that led to teammate Kyle Schwarber's torn ACL on Thursday, although manager Joe Maddon stated he wanted to give his red-hot leadoff hitter the day off anyway. Fowler, Heyward, Bryant and Zobrist should be fixtures in most fantasy lineups any time they are playing while La Stella can be left on waivers.

Cubs | Two Cubs could see more time

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 07:35:17 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jorge Soler and 2B Tommy La Stella could see more time after OF Kyle Schwarber's (ankle) injury, according to manager Joe Maddon. La Stella could see time at third base with 3B Kris Bryant in left field.

Fantasy Tip: Soler figures to benefit significantly, but Maddon will continue his rotation of players. So he might not play every day. If Soler is floating on any waivers, he needs to be picked up universally.

Cubs | Ben Zobrist could hit third

Fri, 01 Apr 2016 14:09:08 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B/OF Ben Zobrist could hit third on opening day against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Sunday, April 3, and often throughout the season, even if it means that 1B Anthony Rizzo and 3B Kris Bryant see less at-bats during the year.

Fantasy Tip: Zobrist isn't a sexy fantasy baseball player, but he makes a lot of contact, he won't hurt you in average and is a plus in leagues that count on-base percentage. Perhaps his most appealing attribute is his multi-positional flexibility. In this Cubs lineup, he'll score a lot of runs, too. Zobrist is undervalued in the middle rounds for depth across the board.

Cubs | Kris Bryant tweaking swing

Fri, 25 Mar 2016 14:54:53 -0700

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant is working to reduce the loop at the end of his swing to hit more line drives. Bryant believes it will help him hit more line-drive home runs and also reduce his league-high 34.9% swing-and-miss rate from 2015.

"The home runs I hit are very, very high, which is not a bad thing," Bryant said Thursday, March 24. "This is how it always has been. But playing at Wrigley (Field) with the wind blowing in sometimes, it's important to get the launch angle down to cut through the wind. It will produce more (home runs)."

Fantasy Tip: Bryant hit .275 with 26 home runs in his rookie season, and the sky is the limit for the superstar slugger. He is regularly being selected late in the first round or early in the second round of fantasy drafts, and hitting in the heart of a stacked lineup should help eliminate any chance of a sophomore slump in 2016. Don't shy away from making him the cornerstone of your fantasy team.
