Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant was asked by manager Joe Maddon to play some outfield in spring training.
Fantasy Tip: Bryant has been anointed the top prospect in baseball by some outlets. He'll battle for the third base job, but he'll really have to torment spring pitching to win a spot on Opening Day. He'll be a player you look to take a flyer on in the second half of your draft.

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant, who hit .325 with 43 runs and 110 RBI between Class AA and AAA combined last year, may have his major league debut delayed this year due to service time. However, Bryant isn't worried about the decisions of the front office. His goal is just to make a decision hard on the team's brass. Last year in spring training, he was 2-for-18 with two home runs.
Fantasy Tip: Bryant had a phenomenal year in the minors last year. He's one of the Cubbies' most impressive prospects, and that'll surely make him overvalued in your fantasy baseball draft this year. He has impressive power at a weak position, but be careful not to overpay; Bryant has yet to play in the majors and strikes out frequently.

Chicago Cubs 3B Mike Olt is the front-runner to win the third base job over 3B Kris Bryant to start the season. However, Bryant hit .325/.438/.661 with 43 homers in the minors last year, and he'll likely be starting in Chicago by midseason or season if he keeps that up. Olt, though, saw marked improvement late last year and could re-establish himself as a lineup fixture this spring. 2B Arismendy Alcantara could also see time at the hot corner. The Cubbies have said they do not want to rush things with Bryant.
Fantasy Tip: Despite the fact that Bryant is likely to start 2015 in the minors again, he'll probably continue to be overvalued by fantasy baseball drafters. For that fact alone, Olt could be a nice sleeper target in NL-only leagues for his power stroke, but he'll need to make much more contact to last in the starting lineup and hold off Bryant.

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant's status for next year has not been determined, general manager Jed Hoyer said Monday, Sept. 15. "Obviously, just like in September, the roster status will be a factor coming out of spring training," Hoyer said. "Sometimes you preserve depth at the beginning of the season, at the end of spring. But obviously he's going to be in spring training with us. I'm sure it'll be really fun to look out on the field and see all those guys. But it's way too early to speculate."

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant (foot) returned to the lineup for Triple-A Iowa Tuesday, Aug. 19. Bryant did not start the previous two games with a left foot contusion.
Fantasy Tip: Don't expect Bryant to debut in 2014. However, owners in keeper/dynasty formats should consider stashing Bryant for next season, especially if you're out of contention this year.
