Dodgers | Alex Wood can't slay former team

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 23:51:20 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood allowed six runs - three earned - and seven hits with three walks and just one strikeout over four innings in a loss Tuesday, April 19, against the Atlanta Braves, his former team.

Fantasy Tip: The southpaw has three outings under his belt, and just one quality start. His only win and quality start came at home, while he is 0-2 with a 8.00 ERA in two road outings. Avoid him in DFS and NL-only seasonal play when he is pitching on the road.

Dodgers | Alex Wood passes bullpen test

Tue, 15 Mar 2016 10:39:57 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood (forearm) showed no signs of injury during his bullpen session Tuesday, March 15. He had missed his previous spring training start because of forearm tightness.

Fantasy Tip: Wood is battling for a rotation spot, so leaving his bullpen session without issue Tuesday was a positive. The Dodgers have a number of injured starters, so there is a good shot a healthy Wood should break camp in the rotation. He took a step back in 2015, but he warrants attention as a late-round flier in mixed leagues because of his excellent 2014 showing. Through 171 2/3 innings, Wood returned a 2.78 ERA and a 8.9 K/9 two years ago. Additionally, the Dodgers offense should help his win column.

Dodgers | Alex Wood to throw bullpen

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 22:36:58 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood (forearm) is expected to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, March 15. He was scratched from his most recent Cactus League appearance due to a sore forearm.

Fantasy Tip: Wood is trying to secure a spot in the starting rotation, but he needs to get healthy first. In fact, the L.A. rotation is in shambles right now due to injury, so no one has really locked anything up or looked like a sure fantasy option at this point.

Sat, 12 Mar 2016 14:50:27 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood (forearm) was scratched Saturday, March 12, due to forearm tightness.

Fantasy Tip: Wood is a late SP flyer in mixed leagues. Keep tabs on him to see if this is a simple flare-up or a bigger issue.

Dodgers | Clayton Kershaw leads tentative rotation

Sun, 28 Feb 2016 13:41:45 -0800

The Los Angeles Dodgers appear to have set their starting rotation, with SP Clayton Kershaw leading the way. He would be followed by SP Scott Kazmir, SP Kenta Maeda, SP Brett Anderson and SP Alex Wood.

Fantasy Tip: The two K's, Kershaw and Kazmir, should go in the first half of most drafts. Kershaw will be among the top 10 selected in most drafts and could even be the first or second pitcher off the board.

Dodgers | Clayton Kershaw unlikely to go on short rest

Wed, 07 Oct 2015 09:23:40 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw is unlikely to pitch on short rest if necessary in Game 4 of the division series against the New York Mets under the new front office led by president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman. The Dodgers haven't committed to a Game 4 starter but would decide between Kershaw on short rest or SP Alex Wood.

Fantasy Tip: Wood ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) becomes an extremely risky FantasyScore pick as a sleeper for your second pitching spot since it's still up in the air that he'll be included in the division series rotation. Pay up for Kershaw ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) as your ace and take your chances.

Padres | Cory Spangenberg not in lineup

Sat, 05 Sep 2015 17:01:45 -0700

San Diego Padres 2B Cory Spangenberg is not in the lineup against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood Saturday, Sept. 5. SS Clint Barmes is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Barmes ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is hitting just .251 with three homers in 88 games this year, and you should look elsewhere for cap relief at FantasyScore.

Cubs | Kyle Schwarber out of Sunday lineup

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 14:56:45 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Kyle Schwarber is not in the starting lineup Sunday, Aug. 30, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. OF Matt Szczur is hitting sixth against Cubs SP Alex Wood.

Fantasy Tip: Schwarber ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is mainly out due to the left vs. left matchup, but a .160 batting average in the past week is another solid reason to sit Schwarber. Szczur is hitting .226 in the past week and really has little fantasy value.

Cubs | Chris Coghlan not starting Sunday

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 14:46:22 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Chris Coghlan is not starting the Sunday, Aug. 30, game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. OF Chris Denorfia is in right field and hitting second against Cubs SP Alex Wood.

Fantasy Tip: Coghlan ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is hitting .158 in the past seven days, so with the left vs. left matchup it is an appropriate time to sit him. Denorfia ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has four hits in five at-bats against Wood and may be worth the small FantasyScore price.
