Dodgers | Alex Wood out another eight weeks

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 11:47:11 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood (elbow) will have a surgical procedure that the Dodgers are calling an "arthroscopic debridement," and Wood is estimated to need eight weeks of recovery time.

Fantasy Tip: Wood could be available to return for a potential playoff run, but that likely kills off any remaining fantasy value he may have had if you were holding him in deeper leagues. The lefty had a 3.99 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 9.9 K/9 on the season in 10 starts for the Blue.

Dodgers | Three LAD starters to throw sim games

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 18:42:34 -0700

Updating previous reports, Los Angeles Dodgers SPs Clayton Kershaw (back) and Alex Wood (elbow) are each scheduled to throw approximately four innings or 60 pitches during simulated games Saturday, July 16. SP Brett Anderson (back) will throw a simulated game using the same guidelines Tuesday, July 19.

Fantasy Tip: If all goes well for the three southpaws, Kershaw should be back by the end of the month, with Wood and Anderson possibly returning sometime in August. Kershaw should be stashed in all fantasy formats, while Wood and Anderson are worth keeping tabs on in NL-only and cavernous mixed seasonal leagues.

Dodgers | Enrique Hernandez lands on DL

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 17:19:07 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Enrique Hernandez (rib cage) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with left rib cage inflammation Wednesday, June 29. SP Alex Wood (elbow) was also moved to the 60-day DL.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez has seen his playing time reduced drastically, so he can likely be left to the waiver wire now in most formats. Scott Van Slyke and Howie Kendrick are serving as outfield depth in the meantime but are mainly useful in daily play in the right matchups.

Dodgers | Alex Wood to throw next week

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 10:35:06 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood (elbow) has been cleared by the organization's medical staff to begin a throwing program next week. The 25-year-old left-hander recently had some fluid drained from his elbow and received a cortisone shot.

Fantasy Tip: Wood is 1-4 with a 3.99 ERA through 10 starts this season, with 19 walks and 62 strikeouts through 56 1/3 innings. He has been sidelined because of left elbow inflammation since May 31, but is considered to be ahead of schedule with his rehab. Wood should remain stashed in NL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues if you can afford the roster space.

Dodgers | Alex Wood receives MRI results

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 22:57:57 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Alex Wood (elbow) received his MRI result and it showed he has an elbow impingement requiring approximately four weeks of rest. He landed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, May 31.

Fantasy Tip: Wood will be replaced by prospect Julio Urias starting Thursday. Avoid Wood in all fantasy leagues for at least a month, but keep him on the roster if you can afford the spot.

Dodgers | Alex Wood DL-bound, Julio Urias returning

Tue, 31 May 2016 15:22:20 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Julio Urias will return to the major leagues with SP Alex Wood (elbow) going on the disabled list with elbow soreness.

Fantasy Tip: Wood owners are surely disappointed after he allowed two earned runs or fewer in his last four starts prior to his injury. In deep mixed and NL-only leagues he must remain stashed. Urias, the Dodgers' top pitching prospect, had a forgettable debut against the Mets last year but has tons of upside and should be owned in all formats. Just keep in mind that the Blue will limit his innings this year and could move him to a relief role eventually.

Dodgers | Alex Wood in doubt for next start

Tue, 31 May 2016 15:12:39 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood (triceps) is dealing with some triceps soreness, and manager Dave Roberts is unsure if Wood will make his next start.

Fantasy Tip: It's unfortunate for Wood owners, as the lefty had just started turning things around on the hill before his latest injury after he discovered a few notable mechanical tweaks. Stay tuned for more updates, but consider him a risky proposition if he winds up making his next start.

Dodgers | Alex Wood to return Monday

Thu, 26 May 2016 09:41:38 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood (triceps) is expected to return and start against the Chicago Cubs Monday, May 30. He was scratched from his scheduled start Friday, May 27, with triceps soreness.

Fantasy Tip: It's a tough break for Wood, whose mechanical fixes recently have paid off in a big way. The lefty has allowed two earned runs or less in his last three starts and has struck out a whopping 27. After a minor injury, trusting him against a dangerous Cubs lineup is a sketchy proposition. You're probably better off skipping him this time around to be safe.

Dodgers | Julio Urias to make debut Friday

Thu, 26 May 2016 08:00:36 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Julio Urias will make his major league debut and start Friday, May 27, against the New York Mets. SP Alex Wood (triceps) was scratched from his start due to triceps tightness.

Fantasy Tip: The 19-year-old phenom has been filthy at Class AAA Oklahoma City at 4-1 with a 1.10 ERA, a 0.78 WHIP and 44 strikeouts in 41 innings. Urias may only be up for one start because Hyun-Jin Ryu is due back in a couple of rehab starts and because the team wants to limit Urias' workload. Urias could eventually be in the bullpen during the stretch run. Urias is expected to be a hot pickup universally, but he will probably have to set the world on fire to force the team's hand in keeping him in the rotation. He's worth snagging due to his potential, but bear in mind the pitfalls. If/when the team puts him in the bullpen, he could have solid value for ratios and K's.

Dodgers | Alex Wood made mechanical tweak

Tue, 24 May 2016 10:52:59 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Alex Wood discovered at the end of April that he was lifting his front leg slightly higher during his delivery, which disrupted his timing. He worked with pitching coach Rick Honeycutt to make an adjustment, and Wood has allowed 22 hits, five walks, 43 strikeouts and a 2.67 ERA in 30 1/3 innings over his last five starts.

Fantasy Tip: Wood's ERA is now down to 4.03 on the season, and he's fanning 9.6 hitters per nine innings after striking out a season-high 13 in his last outing against the Padres. If those in your league haven't caught on and he's still available, scoop Wood up immediately.
