The Atlanta Braves have yet to tell SP Alex Wood if he'll be a starter or reliever to begin the season. Wood went 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA in five August starts last year but was then shifted to the bullpen. SP Gavin Floyd (elbow) is expected to return to the team in May after recovering from Tommy John surgery, and the team should only have one open spot in the rotation with SP Freddy Garcia competing for the spot, as well. The Braves only have one left-handed reliever in RP Luis Avilan, until RP Jonny Venters (elbow) returns from the disabled list in May or June.

Atlanta Braves SP Paul Maholm (elbow) felt soreness in his elbow, and he'll undergo an MRI exam and miss his start Friday, Sept. 13. P David Hale will start in his place. SP Freddy Garcia will start in the place of SP Alex Wood Thursday, Sept. 12, in order to give Wood a breather.

Atlanta Braves SP Brandon Beachy will start against the New York Mets Tuesday, Aug. 20, with SP Alex Wood starting Wednesday, Aug. 21. Both pitchers were moved up one day because SP Kris Medlen was used in relief Saturday, Aug. 17. They will each be pitching on their normal five days' rest because of an off day Monday, Aug. 19.

The Atlanta Braves placed SP Tim Hudson (ankle) on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right ankle Thursday, July 25, and recalled SP Alex Wood from the minors in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: With Paul Maholm (wrist) also on the DL, Wood has a real chance to stick in the starting rotation for the rest of the season now. That makes him a candidate for deep mixed league ownership. Brandon Beachy (elbow) is returning soon, too, and he should be owned in all formats now that it appears he'll have a rotation spot of his own.

Atlanta Braves SP Alex Wood will make two starts next week, and with the injury to SP Tim Hudson (ankle) Wednesday, July 24, he has a chance to stick long term.
Fantasy Tip: Wood is worth a look in NL-only fantasy leagues, as his outlook changed for a while. That's not how you want to win or earn a job, but injuries happen to others and you have to be ready.

Atlanta Braves SP Brandon Beachy (elbow) is making what could be his last rehab start with Triple-A Gwinnett Wednesday, July 24.
Fantasy Tip: Beachy should be owned in all formats as we wait for him to return. His role is undetermined, though; he could slide into the rotation and bump Alex Wood out, but a bullpen job might also be waiting. He's only worth holding onto in deep mixed and standard formats if he's starting.

The Atlanta Braves placed SP Paul Maholm (wrist) on the 15-day disabled with a left wrist contusion Monday, July 22. SP Alex Wood will start the game Thursday, July 25.
Fantasy Tip: Perhaps this opens the door for Brandon Beachy to re-enter the rotation when he's healthy. Wood should only be a target in deep NL leagues, since his stay in the rotation will be on a short-term basis.
