Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims has added some muscle during the offseason, which could help him be a better runner between the tackles.
Fantasy Tip: Sims could compete for the starting running back job during training camp but should still have a solid role if he loses the competition. Owners could consider Sims as a handcuff to Doug Martin or an option in late rounds to add depth at the running back position.
Tue, 26 May 2015 14:31:32 -0700
Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims has a solid chance of beating out RB Doug Martin for Tampa Bay's starting running back gig, according to Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com.
Fantasy Tip: Martin has mostly been a disappointment since his outstanding rookie season. Sims hasn't been given a lot of opportunities to show what he's capable of as he only played in eight games of his rookie season last year. It could end up being more of a running back by committee (Bobby Rainey and Mike James are also available), but Martin needs to step up his game if he doesn't want Sims to supplant him.
Tue, 26 May 2015 14:25:54 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is anxious to capitalize on his short-lived 2014 campaign when he suffered a torn ankle tendon that caused him to miss the first eight games of the season. "I was just getting in the groove and then the season was over," Sims said. "I'm looking forward to next year and it will be interesting to see what's going to happen."
Fantasy Tip: Sims is expected to play a big role for the Bucs in 2015, but he'll still have Doug Martin, Bobby Rainey and Mike James to compete with for playing time. If it wasn't such a crowded backfield, Sims could be a valuable asset to fantasy squads, and that could still end up being the case. For now, however, he's in RB3 territory.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is viewed very highly by his coaches, according to Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com. Sims is expected to be the featured back in the offense.
Fantasy Tip: Sims is likely to feature very prominently in the passing game. Sims averaged 10.0 yards per reception on 19 catches last season, showing promise in an area of the game in which Doug Martin struggles mightily. Sims should be available in the late rounds of 2015 fantasy drafts, and he has the ability to wind up as an RB2.
Mon, 04 May 2015 07:47:33 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is likely to be featured in the offense this season.
Fantasy Tip: Pewter Report speculates the team will trade Doug Martin before the season, which means Sims will have to compete with Bobby Rainey for touches. Sims would be a solid RB2 if he's indeed the featured back. Martin's fantasy luster plummets with these intentions known, but his value will be solid if he can at least share the load somewhere else.
Fri, 28 Nov 2014 16:51:49 -0800
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims (ankle) practiced fully Friday, Nov. 28.
Fantasy Tip: Sims should be able to go this weekend but will be splitting time with Doug Martin and Bobby Rainey. He is cheaply priced at $4,100 on FantasyScore but there are too many mouths to feed in that backfield.
Thu, 27 Nov 2014 15:17:01 -0800
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims (ankle) was limited during practice Thursday, Nov. 27.
Fantasy Tip: Sims probably will be part of a committee at running back if he is active for Week 13. Sims only costs $4,100 on FantasyScore but will be facing a tough Cincinnati Bengals run defense.
Wed, 26 Nov 2014 15:28:19 -0800
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims (ankle) was limited during practice Wednesday, Nov. 26.
Fantasy Tip: Sims shared carries with Doug Martin in Week 12, so it is not known how many carries he will receive if he is able to play this week. Sims only costs $4,100 on FantasyScore and could be a flex option but will be facing a tough Cincinnati Bengals rush defense.
Fri, 21 Nov 2014 14:37:46 -0800
Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Lavonte David (hamstring) did not participate in practice Friday, Nov. 21, and is questionable. RB Charles Sims (ankle) and CB Alterraun Verner (hamstring) both were limited in practice and are questionable.
Thu, 20 Nov 2014 14:48:42 -0800
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RBs Doug Martin (ankle) and Charles Sims (ankle) were both limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 20.
Fantasy Tip: Martin ($3,000) may return in Week 12 to face the Chicago Bears, but he hasn't done much all season. Sims ($4,700), on the other hand, has effectively replaced Bobby Rainey as the lead back. The Bears are allowing just over 16 fantasy points per game to rushers this year. Consider Sims more of a flex play this week at FantasyScore, and his value will suffer if Martin returns.
Mon, 17 Nov 2014 07:17:33 -0800
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims emerged with a team-high 13 carries and 36 yards rushing in Week 11. RB Bobby Rainey started the game, but Sims took over the bulk of the work after the first series. Sims caught three passes and ran in short-yardage situations as well.
Fantasy Tip: Expect Sims to be the guy for the remaining six games as the team looks toward the future. He could be a cheap flex option the rest of the way, and Rainey's run of FantasyScore relevance is likely over for now.
Sun, 16 Nov 2014 07:28:04 -0800
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is expected to receive more playing time in Week 11 than he did in Week 10.
Fantasy Tip: Sims rushed for 23 yards on eight carries last week and caught two passes for 17 yards. Sims could receive a majority of the carries during the game since Doug Martin is not playing. Sims costs $4,500 on FantasyScore and could be flex option for owners.
Wed, 12 Nov 2014 07:02:34 -0800
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims' role is expected to gradually increase as long as fumbles don't be come an issue. RB Bobby Rainey was better at catching passes in Week 10.
Fantasy Tip: Sims ($4,500; 9.0% of your cap) needs to show us more before we use him on FantasyScore. Rainey is cheaper at $4,400, and we see no reason he shouldn't continue to be their leading rusher in the short term.
Sun, 09 Nov 2014 07:07:22 -0800
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims (ankle) will play Sunday, Nov. 9, in Week 10.

Thu, 06 Nov 2014 14:34:34 -0800
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims (ankle) was limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 6.
Fantasy Tip: Sims probably won't see a ton of playing time coming off his long injury-induced hiatus. If Doug Martin is unable to play, Bobby Rainey ($4,900, 9.8%) will be the Bucs running back you want to plug into FantasyScore lineups.
Wed, 05 Nov 2014 14:15:15 -0800
Tampa Bay Buccaneers OT Anthony Collins (foot), TE Luke Stocker (hip) and CB Alterraun Verner (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday, Nov. 5. LB Lavonte David (knee), DE Michael Johnson (hand), LB Brandon Magee (knee), RB Charles Sims (ankle) and DT Akeem Spence (hamstring) were limited.
Tue, 04 Nov 2014 07:35:56 -0800
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin could be relegated to a backup role behind a two-man committee in RBs Bobby Rainey and Charles Sims.
Fantasy Tip: Rainey ($4,900; 9.8% of your cap) is a solid RB2 option on FantasyScore this week against the Atlanta Falcons. Charles Sims ($4,000; 8.0%) has received a lot of hype the last couple of weeks without taking a snap. He's in the flex option mix, but Rainey has performed well enough to warrant more opportunities.
Mon, 03 Nov 2014 06:26:57 -0800
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is likely to play in Week 10, according to general manager Jason Licht.
Fantasy Tip: Sims will be a flex option on FantasyScore once Week 10's game opens.

Sun, 02 Nov 2014 08:35:52 -0800
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is inactive Sunday, Nov. 2, for Week 9.

Sat, 01 Nov 2014 15:13:30 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims (ankle) was activated from the Active/Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Nov. 1.
Fantasy Tip: Sims is a risky play in any fantasy format in his first NFL action in Week 9. Bobby Rainey ($3,900; 7.8% of your cap) is expected to start and makes for a cheap flex option on FantasyScore.
Sat, 01 Nov 2014 08:13:03 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims (ankle) will be activated from the Active/Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Nov. 1, and will play in Week 9.
Fantasy Tip: Sims could receive some work in the game with Doug Martin ruled out, but Bobby Rainey likely will start. Sims may not be a starting option this week, but owners looking for running back help could consider adding him.
Thu, 30 Oct 2014 12:59:47 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims (ankle) is making progress, but it is not known if he will play in Week 9, according to head coach Lovie Smith.
Fantasy Tip: Sims would have to be added to the active roster before he is able to play. Bobby Rainey could receive most of the work at running back if Sims and Doug Martin are not able to play. Rainey costs $3,900 on FantasyScore and could be a flex option.
Thu, 30 Oct 2014 07:08:16 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims could have 10 or more touches in Week 9, in the opinion of beat writer Greg Auman.
Fantasy Tip: Bobby Rainey and Doug Martin's (ankle) fantasy stock is starting to fade. Both are priced at $3,900 on FantasyScore this week. With Sims entering the fold, it's hard to say any of them are worth the start against a putrid Cleveland Browns run defense because they cancel each other out.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are fielding offers for RB Doug Martin, and are more likely to deal him than WR Vincent Jackson, according to sources. Teams have approached the team about Martin, who could be had at the right price. Sat, 18 Oct 2014 11:56:39 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims (ankle) could return to practice soon and is eligible to return after the team's game against the Cleveland Browns Sunday, Nov. 2. Sims underwent ankle surgery this offseason and is on the Reserve/Injured list with a designation to return.
Fantasy Tip: Tampa Bay running backs haven't necessarily been productive this year, so Sims might be given a chance sooner rather than later. It would be best to see how he will be used when he does return before plugging him in lineups.
Wed, 03 Sep 2014 09:19:03 -0700
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed RB Charles Sims (ankle) on the Active/Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Sept. 3.
Fantasy Tip: Sims will miss at least half of the season and may not have much value in fantasy this season. Doug Martin likely will get most of the work at running back while Sims is sidelined.
Tue, 02 Sep 2014 08:26:08 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaners RB Charles Sims (ankle) is expected to be placed on the Active/Reserve/Injured list. The club liked what they saw in the offseason and believe he could be back in midseason.
Fantasy Tip: Until Sims comes back, Doug Martin should dominate passing-down work and be at minimum a high-end fantasy RB2. Sims could be worth a fantasy roster spot when he does return because of his explosiveness.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims has been turning heads in training camp, and running backs coach Tim Spencer said Sims reminds him of Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte. "I think you can tell, especially at skill positions, does a guy have it?" coach Lovie Smith said Wednesday, Aug. 6. "Charles Sims, I would say, has it. He hasn't played a game and right now we're not live an awful lot. But you can see enough in him to like his future with us."
Fantasy Tip: Sims caught 203 passes in his college days, and it is believed that will make him a perfect fit for offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford's offense. Sims could be a deep sleeper heading into draft day. Last season we saw Doug Martin and Mike James go down with injuries, opening the door for Bobby Rainey to take the reins and earn a starting job. An injury or two could make Sims fantasy relevant, and he could run away with the chance.
Fri, 20 Jun 2014 13:15:45 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RBs Bobby Rainey, Mike James, Charles Sims and Jeff Demps will be vying for carries behind RB Doug Martin in training camp. Martin is the team's starting running back, but the team wants to use a rotation in the backfield.

Fri, 30 May 2014 06:22:37 -0700
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is the most likely among the backups to have a weekly role behind starter Doug Martin, in the opinion of Scott Smith, because of Sims' ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Martin will probably cede a few carries and third-down work to Sims.
Fantasy Tip: Mike James and Bobby Rainey profile more closely to handcuff status because of the underrated power in their games. One of them may be a cut candidate. Sims is a decent late-rounds PPR gamble but is unlikely to be considered top dog if Martin were to struggle or suffer an injury. As for Martin's fantasy value, he should still get the lion's share on his way to low-end RB1 numbers; he has plenty of rebound potential.
