Blue Jays | Roberto Osuna closes it out

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 19:11:07 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Roberto Osuna worked a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his fifth save in six chances in an 8-6 win over the Seattle Mariners Saturday, July 25.

Fantasy Tip: Osuna hasn't been perfect, but he looks like Toronto's best option to handle the ninth inning for now. He is worth owning in all formats as long as he is the closer.

Blue Jays | Roberto Osuna is fine

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 08:48:24 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Roberto Osuna (back) reported no lingering problems Monday, July 6, after feeling pain on the lower right side of his back Sunday, July 5.

Fantasy Tip: Osuna recorded his third save in 1 1/3 innings over the Detroit Tigers Sunday, so this injury appears to be very minor. Keep a close eye on him, though. If his back injury were to worsen, Steve Delabar figures to be next in line for save chances for Toronto.

Blue Jays | Roberto Osuna picks up the save

Sun, 28 Jun 2015 16:29:36 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Roberto Osuna picked up his second save in the last three games allowing one hit and striking out two in 1 1/3 innings against the Texas Rangers Sunday, June 28.

Fantasy Tip: Osuna is a big part of the committee Toronto is using to close out at games, and he is definitely worth grabbing if you are hunting for saves. He has 42 strikeouts in 35 2/3 innings, so he can provide some value even on nights when handle the ninth inning.

Blue Jays | Steve Delabar with a save

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 15:55:00 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Steve Delabar recorded his first save of the season in an extra-inning affair against the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday, June 24. He struck out two in his inning of work after RPs Roberto Osuna and Brett Cecil already worked scoreless outings.

Fantasy Tip: Osuna is likely to be the first option in save situations for the Jays after they demoted Cecil from the role yesterday, but with the game tied in the ninth, Osuna was used to keep the game knotted Wednesday. Delabar is worth an add for saves-hungry owners in deep mixed and AL-only leagues, though.

Blue Jays | Roberto Osuna the favorite to close

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 09:45:58 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Roberto Osuna sounds like manager John Gibbons' first choice to pitch the ninth inning after the team demoted RP Brett Cecil from the role Tuesday, June 23. However, Gibbons didn't specifically name Osuna as the new closer, and RP Steve Delabar is another possibility. Osuna strengthened his chances with a two-inning, five-strikeout save Monday, June 22. Gibbons said the team isn't ready to define bullpen roles after the shakeup. RP Bo Schultz will also be moved back and be given added responsibility. Osuna has allowed eight earned runs in 34 innings this year while walking 10 and striking out 40. "He's got the stuff to do it, he's got the makeup to do it, too. He's a tough kid," praised Gibbons. "He gets strikeouts and you know he's going to throw strikes. … Shoot, he looks like a veteran out there."

Fantasy Tip: Osuna should immediately be scooped off the waiver wire if he's still available in your league. Delabar, who allowed a home run in a non-save situation Tuesday, is an option for those scrounging for saves in deeper leagues. Don't feel the need to hang onto Cecil in shallow mixed formats.

Blue Jays | Roberto Osuna, Steve Delabar closing candidates

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 15:04:29 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RPs Roberto Osuna and Steve Delabar are both candidates to see save chances after the team announced they'll go with a closer-by-committee after bumping RP Brett Cecil from the role. Manager John Gibbons isn't defining any bullpen roles right now.

Fantasy Tip: Osuna should be your first target on the waiver wire, but Delabar is worth pursuing for those save-hungry owners in deeper leagues. In shallow mixed leagues, dropping Cecil is advised if you don't have the room to stash.

Blue Jays | Roberto Osuna picks up first save

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 09:35:45 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Roberto Osuna entered in the eighth inning and struck out five in two hitless innings in his first save against the Tampa Bay Rays Monday, June 22. "Can't say enough about Osuna," manager John Gibbons said.

Fantasy Tip: Brett Cecil is on the hot seat as the Jays closer after taking the loss Sunday and blowing a save last Monday. Cecil is sporting a 5.96 ERA in 2015. It's unclear if Toronto is considering a shakeup in the ninth anytime soon, but this outing for Osuna definitely boosted his fantasy appeal for those speculating on saves or looking to handcuff Cecil.

Blue Jays | Miguel Castro in low-leverage situations

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 15:09:36 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Miguel Castro, who was removed from the closer role, will be used in low-leverage situations for the time being in order to regain his footing. RPs Aaron Loup and Roberto Osuna will take over as the primary options for the seventh and eighth innings in front of RP Brett Cecil. "He's not polished off yet, he's so inexperienced, and to be fair to the kid, early on he was big for us," manager John Gibbons argued. "So back him off, build him up and get him back in there. Nobody goes through this game without getting hit around a little bit. To think a 20-year-old kid won't, that just doesn't happen."

Fantasy Tip: Hopefully you held onto Cecil if you owned him after he was demoted from the ninth-inning role early in the season. Aside from AL-only leagues, Castro is a candidate to let go to the waiver wire while he regains his footing and confidence.

Blue Jays | Roberto Osuna could undergo Tommy John surgery

Sat, 11 May 2013 09:34:46 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays P Roberto Osuna (elbow), currently pitching for Class A Lansing, left his most recent outing because of right elbow discomfort and is in danger of needing Tommy John surgery. A visit to Dr. James Andrews revealed that Osuna had a torn ulnar collateral ligament. General manager Alex Anthopoulos said he would be allowed to play catch in a few days and said the situation is "basically rest and rehab," but if Osuna experiences additional flare-ups in the next few weeks, he could require surgery.
