Blue Jays | Roberto Osuna off limits Wednesday

Wed, 11 May 2016 11:25:43 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Roberto Osuna is unavailable Wednesday, May 11, after pitching three straight days.

Fantasy Tip: The first fill-in that comes to mind is Drew Storen, but he has a 9.00 ERA in 11 innings thus far. Brett Cecil is on paternity leave, which brings us to Jesse Chavez. He has a 2.45 ERA and 16 K's in 11 innings. He's a dark-horse option if a save presents itself Wednesday.

Blue Jays | Roberto Osuna on the shelf

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 23:12:31 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Roberto Osuna (fingernail) was unavailable Wednesday, April 20, against the Baltimore Orioles due to a broken fingernail. Manager John Gibbons opted not to use Osuna since he picked up four outs in the outing Tuesday, April 19, but was unable to throw his slider.

Fantasy Tip: If Osuna is forced to miss time and a save situation arises, look for Drew Storen to step into the closer's role.

Blue Jays | Roberto Osuna able to pitch

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 21:35:22 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Roberto Osuna (fingernail) was able to close out the game Tuesday, April 19, against the Baltimore Orioles despite a cracked fingernail. He pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with one strikeout for his fifth save of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners nervous about his minor injury can breathe a sigh of relief. It doesn't appear he'll be forced to miss any time or save chances.

Blue Jays | Roberto Osuna's status uncertain

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 14:39:12 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Roberto Osuna (finger) might not be available for Tuesday, April 19, opposite the Baltimore Orioles. Manager John Gibbons said he's "not sure yet" if Osuna would be able to pitch, adding that it's "top-secret info."

Fantasy Tip: Well, that's unfortunate for owners in daily leagues who are seeking whether or not to plug in Osuna this evening. Luckily, this seems to be a very minor ailment for Toronto's young closer, so even if he's unavailable here, he'll probably be back in a day or two, at most. Drew Storen would fill in again if Osuna can't go, but was very shaky converting a save Monday afternoon in Boston.

Blue Jays | Roberto Osuna nursing a blister

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 12:16:59 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Roberto Osuna (finger) popped a blister on his right middle finger during the game Sunday, April 17. He believes he will be ready to pitch against the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday, April 19, if needed.

Fantasy Tip: Osuna has four saves already with eight strikeouts through six innings. He is a midrange closer with upside to produce at an elite level. His first rough outing was Sunday, and it wasn't a save situation. Stay tuned for updates, but it looks like Osuna will be taking care of the ninth inning during the series against the Orioles.

Blue Jays | Roberto Osuna won't be available

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 14:08:21 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Roberto Osuna will not be available to pitch Tuesday, April 5, after pitching back-to-back days. RP Drew Storen is expected to pitch in the ninth if a save situation arises.

Fantasy Tip: Osuna is a solid second closer for fantasy owners, but Storen, for reasons like this, remains valuable to owners in deeper mixed and AL-only leagues.

Blue Jays | Two days, two saves for Roberto Osuna

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 20:05:06 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Roberto Osuna pitched a perfect seven-pitch ninth inning Monday, April 4, against the Tampa Bay Rays for his second save in two days.

Fantasy Tip: There was some uncertainty as to who the closer would be north of the border, but Osuna has quickly asserted himself as the top dog in the role. He appears to be a steady fantasy option for ninth-inning chores.

Blue Jays | Roberto Osuna slams door on Rays

Sun, 03 Apr 2016 16:48:21 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Roberto Osuna struck out a pair in the ninth inning to earn the save in a win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, April 3.

Fantasy Tip: Osuna fanned the first two hitters he faced before allowing the one runner he inherited to score on a single from Kevin Kiermaier, which was charged to starter Marcus Stroman. The 21-year-old edged out Drew Storen to close for the Blue Jays in spring training and stands to finish the season as a top-10 relief pitcher in fantasy with all the chances he'll get to protect leads in Toronto, even if the Blue Jays occasionally rob him of a save chance with a late offensive explosion.

Blue Jays | Roberto Osuna named closer

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 05:21:26 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Roberto Osuna was named the closer over RP Drew Storen Wednesday, March 30. Manager John Gibbons said familiarity was the key.

Fantasy Tip: Osuna had a 2.58 ERA, a 0.92 WHIP and 75 K's in 69 2/3 innings last year while converting 20 of 23 saves. He bumps up to the low-end RP2 or high-end RP3 range while Storen plummets to the low-end RP3 range.

Blue Jays | Drew Storen the favorite to close

Sat, 20 Feb 2016 13:35:53 -0800

Toronto Blue Jays RP Drew Storen is the favorite to close, according to manager John Gibbons. " Storen is pretty much a one-inning guy," Gibbons said. "And I think you can stretch (Roberto Osuna) out a little bit, say maybe an inning-plus. So if that's the case, I don't know, maybe that gives the edge to Storen as the closer. And maybe you can use Roberto some different ways. We'll see."

Fantasy Tip: Storen is a midrange RP2 if he lands the job. Osuna is worth taking as a third or fourth reliever.
