Raiders | Latavius Murray returns to practice

Wed, 26 Nov 2014 12:23:00 -0800

Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray (concussion) was back at practice Wednesday, Nov. 25, though his participation status was undisclosed.

Fantasy Tip: This is a promising sign that Murray will be able to play this weekend, but nothing is set in stone yet, of course. His FantasyScore price of $5,600 could be risky if he's limited at all.

Raiders | Latavius Murray to have baseline testing

Tue, 25 Nov 2014 11:41:19 -0800

Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray (concussion) will undergo baseline testing for his concussion Tuesday, Nov. 25, according to a league source. He is feeling good, but he must go through the league's concussion protocol before being cleared for Week 13 against the St. Louis Rams.

Fantasy Tip: Murray's FantasyScore price shot up to $5,600 this week because of his big Week 12 performance, but if he's questionable against the Rams, he'll be a big risk. We likely won't find out until later this week whether he'll be cleared to play this weekend.

Raiders | Latavius Murray a question mark

Mon, 24 Nov 2014 17:03:29 -0800

Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray (concussion) remains a question mark heading into Week 13 against the St. Louis Rams. Head coach Tony Sparano said Murray hasn't passed the league's concussion tests yet. "Right now he's involved in the middle of it," Sparano said. "We'll see where he is by tomorrow and have a pretty good idea what's going on for Wednesday. As you know these things take time or they can be very fast. It just depends on the player and the severity." Murray did not practice Monday, Nov. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Murray should now be owned in all leagues after his big Week 12 performance. If he's cleared to play against the St. Louis Rams, he should see a decent amount of touches - enough to make him a flex option at FantasyScore.

Raiders | Latavius Murray earns larger role

Fri, 21 Nov 2014 07:21:35 -0800

Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray (concussion) has earned himself a larger role in the offense, according to interim head coach Tony Sparano. His concussion, obviously, will dictate when that plan will be put into motion. "The way he ran the ball today he earned more snaps, no doubt about it," Sparano said. "We just have to see how he comes out of this thing."

Fantasy Tip: Murray, who had 112 yards and two scores on four Week 12 carries, could actually take the lion's share of the carries from Darren McFadden when he returns to action. Look for him to potentially be a solid buy as a flex option on FantasyScore upon his return.

Raiders | Latavius Murray to be more involved?

Mon, 17 Nov 2014 14:21:54 -0800

Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray had four carries for 43 yards in the team's Week 11 loss to the San Diego Chargers, and his 23-yard run late in the third quarter was the team's longest rushing gain for a running back of the season. "They've been wanting to get me in the mix more and that's all I can ask," Murray said. "When they do, I have to make sure they give me a reason to put me back in there." Murray is a much bigger back than either RBs Darren McFadden or Maurice Jones-Drew, and he runs with an upright style. Oakland finished with 71 yards on 19 carries, which was their highest rushing output since Oct. 12 in their first matchup with the Chargers.

Fantasy Tip: At this point in the Raiders' winless season, they just might be motivated to make a drastic change in the backfield in hopes of better results. Murray will continue to be cheap at FantasyScore if you're feeling very bold in Week 12.

Raiders | Raiders to split carries without MJD

Fri, 12 Sep 2014 13:15:59 -0700

Oakland Raiders RBs Darren McFadden and Latavius Murray will both receive a crack at the running back duties in Week 2 against the Houston Texans with RB Maurice Jones-Drew (hand) unlikely to play, according to offensive coordinator Greg Olson. The Raiders only had 25 yards rushing on 12 carries in Week 1 against the New York Jets.

Fantasy Tip: McFadden and Murray will each cost only the minimum for running backs ($3,700) at FantasyScore this weekend. How they'll be used is anyone's guess at this point. Consider both backs weak flex options against the Texans.

Raiders | Maurice Jones-Drew likely out

Fri, 12 Sep 2014 05:32:38 -0700

Oakland Raiders RB Maurice Jones-Drew (hand) is expected to miss the Week 2 game, according to multiple sources. Jones-Drew had a small bandage covering a surgical site below his index finger, and his hand was swollen Thursday, Sept. 11. He said he didn't break his hand, however, multiple sources have reported that he did break his hand. He's not expected to miss a lot of time.

Fantasy Tip: Darren McFadden ($3,700; 7.4% of your cap) becomes a great bargain on FantasyScore against the Houston Texans this weekend. Latavius Murray should see some action as well, at the same fantasy price tag.

Raiders | Plan to run it often

Tue, 08 Jul 2014 07:56:12 -0700

Oakland Raiders OT Donald Penn said the team plans to run the ball often in 2014. "We're gonna run the ball, run the ball, then run it again, until the defense stops us," Penn said.

Fantasy Tip: Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew should have ample opportunities to run the ball. However, they're going to need an effective passing game to keep eight defenders out of the box limiting their daylight. The winner of the lion's share of carries should be an RB3 with the second back and Latavius Murray as flex options.

Raiders | Latavius Murray set to be No. 3 RB

Fri, 20 Jun 2014 12:36:58 -0700

Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray seems to be the team's No. 3 running back at this point in the offseason behind RBs Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew. RB Kory Sheets has also been playing well, though. "We're looking for big things from Latavius Murray right now, coming off the foot injury. He's shown, to me, the biggest upside right now in what we've seen thus far, if he can stay healthy," offensive coordinator Greg Olson said.

Fantasy Tip: Murray is an intriguing option in the backfield for the Raiders, but as long as McFadden and MJD are healthy and playing, he won't have much fantasy value. With that said, we all know McFadden's long injury history, and Jones-Drew has plenty of wear on the tires. Remember Murray's name in-season if one of the top two running backs go down.

Raiders | HC meets with Latavius Murray

Tue, 13 Aug 2013 20:07:49 -0700

Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen had an on-field meeting after practice Monday, Aug. 12, with RB Latavius Murray, a day after saying Murray has to be "accountable." He missed the past two practices due to an undisclosed ailment. "Latavius Murray had a couple of good runs," Allen said. "A couple of them got called back because of penalties, but one run down the sideline he ended up being able to lower his shoulder and finish off the run pretty good. I saw some good things, but he wasn't out here today so being available and being accountable are two things that we have to make sure we're able to be."

Raiders | Praise for Latavius Murray

Wed, 29 May 2013 10:00:04 -0700

Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen praised the work of rookie RB Latavius Murray, saying he's "picked up everything offensively from a schematic standpoint, assignment-wise. ... He's done a nice job in pass protection. That's one of the things you see with young backs that they struggle with at times."

Fantasy Tip: Rashad Jennings is widely considered the top handcuff to Darren McFadden, but Murray has more explosiveness and could easily overtake Jennings. Keep an eye on Murray this summer.

Wed, 01 May 2013 19:34:05 -0700

Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray will battle for a roster spot in training camp and the preseason, and he is viewed as one to watch since the team had injuries problems at the position a season ago. He said he thinks he runs like teammate RB Darren McFadden, as well as Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson, and he uses his power and strength with an upright running style. Murray likes to embarrass defenders with his stiff-arm, or 'The Tave' arm, as his UCF teammates called it.
