Marlins | J.T. Realmuto riding pine vs. Pirates

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 13:12:59 -0700

Miami Marlins C J.T. Realmuto is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Aug. 27. C Jeff Mathis is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Realmuto ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is riding a 1-for-18 stretch over his past five games, but he remains a low-end catcher option in NL-only, cavernous mixed and two-catcher leagues. Mathis ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) sports a .123/.192/.138 slash line over 23 games this season, and is an ill-advised fantasy option in all formats.

Marlins | J.T. Realmuto sitting vs. Brewers

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 15:10:47 -0700

Miami Marlins C J.T. Realmuto is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Aug. 18. C Tomas Telis is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Milwaukee Brewers SP Tyler Cravy Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Realmuto ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) in all formats Tuesday. The youngster is having a solid season and boasts a .300/.323/.500 slash line over the past two weeks. Telis ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) shouldn't be viewed as anything more than a desperation source of cap relief by FantasyScore players Tuesday.

Marlins | J.T. Realmuto could play 3B or LF

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 17:55:51 -0700

Miami Marlins C J.T. Realmuto said first base coach Perry Hill wants to work with him next spring at third base and left field, in order to keep his bat in the lineup on days when he is not catching.

Fantasy Tip: Realmuto ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is batting .255 with seven home runs and 35 RBIs through 87 games, and is coming off a 3-for-5 performance Wednesday, Aug. 12, where he collected a career-high six RBIs and came within a double of hitting for the cycle. Being able to play multiple positions would increase his usefulness in seasonal leagues, although he is more valuable as a catcher than at any other position.

Marlins | J.T. Realmuto has large day

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 16:32:28 -0700

Miami Marlins C J.T. Realmuto went 3-for-5 with three runs, a triple, a home run and six RBI during the Marlins' 14-6 win over the Boston Red Sox Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Realmuto ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) entered the game with a .290/.321/.458 slash line over his past 31 games, as the youngster has emerged as a mid-tier No. 2 catcher. He'll continue to be somewhat inconsistent from game to game, but he is improving in that regard and a strong finish to the season isn't out of the question.

Marlins | J.T. Realmuto dealing with hand injury

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 14:15:21 -0700

Miami Marlins C J.T. Realmuto (hand) is dealing with a sore left hand and is expected to rest for a couple of days.

Fantasy Tip: Realmuto ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) will give way to Jeff Mathis ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) behind the plate, but Mathis is of no fantasy interest, though. Mathis has a career 1.93/.253/.302 slash line, but hasn't even approached those numbers in 2015. Continue to check back for updates on Realmuto's status and for when he'll return.

Marlins | J.T. Realmuto out again

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 12:24:35 -0700

Miami Marlins C J.T. Realmuto is out of the starting lineup for the second straight day Thursday, Aug. 6. C Jeff Mathis will start again and is hitting eighth against Atlanta Braves SP Matt Wisler.

Fantasy Tip: Mathis ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has only 6 hits in 53 at-bats this year (.113 average) and is a very poor FantasyScore option tonight. You can find much better catchers to pick from.

Marlins | J.T. Realmuto sitting vs. Mets

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 14:32:10 -0700

Miami Marlins C J.T. Realmuto is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Aug. 5. C Jeff Mathis is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against New York Mets SP Matt Harvey Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Facing Harvey ($9,000, 18.0% of cap), there is no reason to turn to the light-hitting Mathis ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) in any fantasy formats Wednesday. Realmuto ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has been a solid fantasy contributor of late with a .287/.316/.468 slash line through his past 98 plate appearances and 27 games, and 10 of his 27 hits during the run have gone for extra bases.
