Brewers | Chase Anderson flirts with no-hitter

Tue, 17 May 2016 23:01:00 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Chase Anderson took a no-hitter into the eighth inning against the Chicago Cubs Tuesday, May 17, before allowing two runs on three hits in 8 2/3 innings to get the win. He struck out six and walked one.

Fantasy Tip: It was an impressive outing before he faltered late, but Anderson has allowed more hits (323) than innings pitched (311) in his career. We'd like to see more before running to the waiver wire.

Brewers | Chase Anderson decent in loss

Wed, 11 May 2016 20:03:28 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Chase Anderson allowed three earned runs, three hits and one walk with four strikeouts over six innings Wednesday, May 11, against the Miami Marlins, but he was unable to avoid falling to 1-5.

Fantasy Tip: The quality start was Anderson's first in five outings dating back to April 13. Perhaps this is the sign of a turnaround, but he still needs to keep the ball down. He allowed just one homer in this game, but he has given up nine over the past 24 1/3 innings. That needs to end if he is to be more successful and a viable fantasy option.

Brewers | Chase Anderson rocked by Phillies

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 05:23:19 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Chase Anderson allowed six runs on eight hits and four walks with just two strikeouts during Milwaukee's 10-6 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies Saturday, April 23.

Fantasy Tip: Anderson was a popular two-start add this week because he faced the Minnesota Twins and Milwaukee in expected cushy matchups. He allowed 10 earned runs through nine innings over the two outings and shouldn't be viewed as a viable option in the majority of seasonal leagues after struggling against two weak offenses. Limit ownership to cavernous mixed and NL-only formats at this point.

Brewers | Chase Anderson to face Philly

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 20:57:42 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Chase Anderson will face the Philadelphia Phillies Saturday, April 23. He is 0-1 with a 5.23 ERA in two career starts against the Phillies, both coming last season when he was a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Anderson was pounded last time out, and his small sample size against the Phillies isn't particularly good. NL-only fantasy owners and DFS players should stay away despite what appears to be a favorable spot.

Brewers | Matt Garza won't start Wednesday

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 15:31:11 -0700

Updating a previous report, Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza (shoulder) will not start against the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, April 6. Brewers SP Taylor Jungmann will start against the Giants Wednesday, and Milwaukee SP Chase Anderson will start against the Houston Astros Friday, April 8. The rest of the rotation will be determined at a later date.

Fantasy Tip: Garza struggled mightily in 2015 with a 5.63 ERA, a 1.57 WHIP and 6.3 K/9. Those numbers don't play in any fantasy format, and Garza isn't worth owning as anything more than a desperation flier in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. Similarly, Anderson is best left to deeper leagues. Jungmann, on the other hand, has upside as an end-of-the-rotation arm in mixed leagues.

Brewers | Chase Anderson to Milwaukee

Sat, 30 Jan 2016 15:54:06 -0800

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Chase Anderson, 2B Aaron Hill, SS Isan Diaz and cash were acquired by the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday, Jan. 30. The Brewers sent SS Jean Segura and P Tyler Wagner to the Diamondbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Anderson will benefit slightly from leaving Chase Field, where he had a 4.56 ERA at home last season. He was shelled in his only start in Miller Park, but he remains an option to round out your fantasy rotation. Hill will be 34 in March, and he has begun declining with a .230-6-39 line last year. A change of scenery could serve him well, though, and he's worth consideration for your MI spot.

MLB | Arizona-Texas in trade talks

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 11:22:45 -0800

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers are set to sit down and talk trades of pitchers at the winter meetings Wednesday, Dec. 9. The D-backs have a surplus of starting pitching after acquiring SPs Zack Greinke and Shelby Miller, and the Rangers have bullpen depth, and RP Steven Tolleson is of interest to Arizona. RP Keone Kela is also drawing significant trade interest. Diamondbacks SPs Rubby De La Rosa, Archie Bradley, Zack Godley and Chase Anderson could interest Texas.

Fantasy Tip: Talks appear to just be in initial stages, so nothing is imminent on this front, but it all makes plenty of sense. If Tolleson is traded away, Kela will be very attractive as a low-cost closing option for fantasy owners.

Diamondbacks | Chase Anderson a mixed bag tonight?

Tue, 08 Sep 2015 15:42:29 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Chase Anderson is 1-0 with a 2.55 ERA in his last three starts but is 1-1 with a 5.91 ERA in two starts against the San Francisco Giants this year. Anderson faces the Giants Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants are fading down the stretch and are dropping further and further from playoff contention. Their .688 OPS so far in September ranks them 25th in baseball. But they've also been much better on the road in 2015. Anderson ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) could be a mixed bag tonight against the Giants, much like his results against the Giants this year and recently overall. Proceed with caution.

Diamondbacks | Jeremy Hellickson to DL

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 11:39:28 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Jeremy Hellickson (hamstring, gluteus) was placed on the disabled list Thursday, Aug. 20, and SP Chase Anderson was recalled from the minors in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Hellickson can be let go in shallow mixed leagues. Anderson ($5,880, 11.8% of cap) was recently sent down but will re-enter the rotation after allowing five runs in each of his last two starts. He's a candidate for owners in deep mixed leagues, but he's merely a matchup play on FantasyScore, and a risky one at that.

Diamondbacks | Chase Anderson sent down

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 11:02:55 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Chase Anderson was optioned to Class AAA Reno after his start Tuesday, Aug. 18, and the D-backs recalled SP Zack Godley from Class AA Mobile in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Now that Anderson is back in the minors, he can be cut in all fantasy formats. Godley had a 1.50 ERA and 1.06 WHIP while striking out 8.5 hitters per nine innings in three starts for Arizona this year in 18 innings. Keep an eye on him in deep mixed leagues, and he could be a sneaky sleeper pick as your second starter on FantasyScore in the right matchups.
