Tigers | Manager expects Shane Green back up

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 13:55:54 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene is expected to be recalled from Class AAA Toledo at some point this season, according to manager Brad Ausmus.

Fantasy Tip: Ausmus said he would be "shocked," if Greene wasn't back with the team and given how well Greene ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) pitched through his first three starts (3-0 record, 0.39 ERA with a .413 OPS against over 23 innings), it is likely. Still, Greene isn't worth stashing outside of cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, and there is no guarantee he returns and has success. Monitoring his performance during his minor league stint is encouraged for those willing to invest a roster spot on him in seasonal leagues. Kyle Ryan ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is starting in place of Greene against the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday, June 15.

Tigers | Shane Green demoted by Tigers

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 11:52:09 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene was optioned to Class AAA Toledo Friday, June 12.

Fantasy Tip: After a quick start in April, it quickly went south for Greene ($4,200, 8.4% of cap), as he has recorded a 3-7 record, 8.60 ERA and .993 OPS against in 10 starts since then. It's unclear who the Tigers plan to use to replace Greene in the rotation or if he'll have a chance to regain a spot if he makes adjustments in the minors. Greene should have been let go long ago in shallow mixed leagues. Stay tuned for Detroit's replacement.

Tigers | Shane Greene making adjustments

Fri, 05 Jun 2015 17:27:11 -0700

Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said the main reason for SP Shane Greene's recent struggles has been an inability to keep the ball down in order to induce ground balls. "When he's right, he's keeping the ball below the waist, but right now, he's having trouble doing that," Ausmus said. Greene said he has been watching a lot of video and making a few other adjustments in order to correct the situation.

Fantasy Tip: In his last three starts, Greene ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) has allowed 17 runs (15 earned) on 22 hits over 11 2/3 innings. Avoid using him in his next start against the Chicago Cubs next week to see if the adjustments translate into an improved performance.

Tigers | Shane Greene on track for Wednesday

Mon, 18 May 2015 17:17:13 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene (elbow) threw a light bullpen session Monday, May 18, and he is on track to make his scheduled start Wednesday, May 20, against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fantasy Tip: Greene ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) allowed zero runs for the third time on the season and the first time since April 14, in his last start, Friday, May 15, continuing to rebound from three consecutive rough starts. FantasyScore owners should leave Greene alone for his first start back in order to ensure the injury won't be a lingering issue.

Tigers | Shane Greene on track to start

Sun, 17 May 2015 17:06:58 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene (elbow) is expected to make his next start against the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday, May 20.

Fantasy Tip: Greene ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) appears to have dodged a major injury, but he has been inconsistent this year and isn't worth starting at FantasyScore in his first start since suffering an elbow injury.

Tigers | Shane Greene to undergo MRI

Sat, 16 May 2015 08:16:13 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene (elbow) is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his injured elbow.

Fantasy Tip: Greene ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) left his last start because of the injury but more will be known about the injury after the MRI. Greene has been inconsistent this season and should be avoided until a diagnosis is made.

Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene (elbow) allowed five hits over five scoreless innings against the St. Louis Cardinals before exiting with mild ulnar neuritis in his pitching elbow Friday, May 15.

Fantasy Tip: Stay tuned for updates on the severity of his injury. Greene ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) has been boom or bust in his starts this year, and he is a gamble at FantasyScore.

Tigers | Shane Greene continues poor run

Tue, 05 May 2015 18:32:37 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene allowed five earned runs on five hits in two and two-third innings pitched Tuesday, May 5, against the Chicago White Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Greene ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) had allowed just one earned run in his first three starts combined, and has now allowed 20 earned runs in his last three outings. At this point Greene can't be owned in season-long leagues and he should be left alone on FantasyScore until he starts showing some promising signs.

Tigers | Shane Greene beat up again

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 16:25:16 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene has given up 18 hits and 15 runs in his last two starts. Greene allowed nine hits and seven earned runs while walking none and striking out eight in 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Minnesota Twins Wednesday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Regression to the mean continues for Greene ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) after he pitched out of his mind in the first couple starts of the season. His strikeout numbers aren't expected to be as high as what we saw Wednesday, either. However, he'll remain useful in the majority of fantasy baseball leagues, especially with a potent offense backing him. At FantasyScore, he's a matchup play.

Tigers | Shane Greene off to roaring start

Sun, 19 Apr 2015 15:49:28 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene is the first pitcher to throw seven or more innings in each of his first three starts and allow one earned run or less since Jack Morris in 1984.

Fantasy Tip: Greene ($4,500, 9% of cap) has been a big surprise for the Tigers so far, and he should be in your lineup every start as long as things go as well as they have. He's worth the low salary.
