Indians | Lonnie Chisenhall scratched

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 14:14:42 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Lonnie Chisenhall (illness) was scratched from the starting lineup Friday, July 22, with what manager Terry Francona called "intestinal turmoil." OF Abraham Almonte is replacing Chisenhall in right field.

Fantasy Tip: It's unknown if this is a situation that could keep Chisenhall out for more than one game. Stay tuned for updates. With a .300/.348/.465 slash line and six homers and 29 RBI in 230 at-bats, he can be useful to those in deep mixed and AL-only leagues against certain righties. Almonte has only three hits in 21 at-bats and is a low-end desperation start in DFS.

Indians | Rajai Davis not starting

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 09:46:22 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Rajai Davis is not in the starting lineup against Minnesota Twins SP Kyle Gibson Sunday, July 17. OF Abraham Almonte will start in left field and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Almonte has only two hits in 16 at-bats this month and probably should be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Indians | Rajai Davis, Abraham Almonte starting

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 10:11:38 -0700

Cleveland Indians OFs Rajai Davis and Abraham Almonte are in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia Saturday, July 9. OFs Tyler Naquin and Lonnie Chisenhall are receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Although Davis is batting .350 over the last seven days, he is just 8-for-44 in his career versus Sabathia, so he is not a recommended option in DFS this afternoon. Almonte is just 1-for-10 since returning from an 80-game suspension and should also be avoided.

Indians | Abraham Almonte starting vs. Detroit

Mon, 04 Jul 2016 13:09:37 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Abraham Almonte is starting in right field and batting ninth against Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris Monday, July 4. OF Tyler Naquin is not in the starting lineup Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Almonte has extremely limited fantasy appeal, but he has played consecutive games and is likely worth an add in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues. His return hurts the fantasy value of Naquin, as Almonte could grab starts against southpaws and potentially some righties, too.

Indians | Abraham Almonte reinstated

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 09:30:40 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Abraham Almonte was reinstated from his suspension Sunday, July 3.

Fantasy Tip: Almonte will provide Cleveland with outfield depth with Michael Brantley still injured. He hit .250 with five home runs and 24 RBI in 82 games with the Tribe and Padres last season. Almonte doesn't offer anything extraordinary in any one category, but he could make for nice outfield depth in AL leagues if he sees enough playing time.

Indians | Jason Kipnis, Tyler Naquin resting

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 08:24:18 -0700

Cleveland Indians 2B Jason Kipnis and OF Tyler Naquin are receiving the day off against Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ Sunday, July 3. INF Jose Ramirez is playing second base and batting second, while SS Francisco Lindor is back in the lineup as the No. 3 hitter. In addition, C Yan Gomes will start behind the plate and bat sixth, OF Abraham Almonte will bat seventh and play center field and 3B Juan Uribe (wrist) will play the hot corner and bat eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez and Lindor are viable options in all formats but Gomes is just 2-for-17 over the past week and is 1-for-7 in his career versus Happ, so he should be avoided this afternoon. Almonte was projected to be the club's regular center fielder entering 2016 but was forced to serve an 80-game suspension after testing positive for the drug Boldenone during spring training. He could push Tyler Naquin for regular playing time at the position going forward. Uribe should be viewed as nothing more than an inexpensive flier in DFS.

Indians | Abraham Almonte hit with 80-game ban

Fri, 26 Feb 2016 13:26:48 -0800

Cleveland Indians OF Abraham Almonte received an 80-game suspension Friday, Feb. 26, for testing positive for Boldenone.

Fantasy Tip: Almonte was projected to be the full-time starter in center field, so his suspension could open up an opportunity for Rajai Davis or Collin Cowgill to see more playing time. Davis is the only fantasy relevant option, though, and mainly it is just because of his speed. Michael Brantley (shoulder) stands to take over duty in center field when he returns from injury, but the jury is still out on when that will happen. Another candidate to see extra run in the outfield is Will Venable, as he was signed to a minor league deal Friday. Stay tuned for updates on the outfield situation in Cleveland, but fantasy players will want to avoid overvaluing Davis entering his age-35 season.

Indians | Abraham Almonte in CF for Cleveland

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 18:59:53 -0800

Cleveland Indians OF Abraham Almonte is currently the top center fielder for the Indians as the roster stands now.

Fantasy Tip: Almonte might get a chance to start the season as a full-time player, and he is someone fantasy owners, particularly those in AL-only formats, will want to watch very closely once spring training begins.

Indians | Abraham Almonte right back in lineup

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 15:35:29 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Abraham Almonte (arm) is starting in center field and batting sixth against Chicago White Sox SP Jeff Samardzija Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Almonte ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) was scratched from the lineup Tuesday, Sept. 8, so it is encouraging to see him right back in the mix. He has played well since joining the Tribe with a .268/.327/.515 slash line over 107 plate appearances. Still, he is nothing more than a low-end fantasy option in the majority of formats, including at FantasyScore.

Cleveland Indians OF Abraham Almonte (arm) was scratched from the lineup Tuesday, Sept. 8, against the Chicago White Sox due to folliculitis, or an inflamed hair follicle under his left arm.
