Redskins | Chris Thompson finds end zone

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 21:02:02 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson worked as the No. 2 tailback in Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He rushed four times for 23 yards and a touchdown and he had a pair of receptions for 16 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson worked behind Matt Jones, but neither of the tailbacks had a ton of opportunities with the team falling behind and going mostly to the air on offense. Thompson, not Rob Kelley, was the backup and is the one to own in deeper fantasy leagues heading into Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Redskins | 60-40 split for Redskins RBs?

Fri, 02 Sep 2016 06:57:18 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones could receive 60% of the carries in the committee approach, and RBs Rob Kelley and Chris Thompson would account for the other 40%, in the opinion of beat writer Rich Tandler.

Fantasy Tip: Jones is a solid RB2 in PPR leagues, but his usage might be capped a bit early on unless he separates himself from the pack. Kelley has been a nice story this preseason, but he and Thompson offset one another to a degree. Both are in the RB5 conversation, but they are wild cards or handcuffs.

Redskins | Chris Thompson expected to sit out

Wed, 24 Aug 2016 13:08:25 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (undisclosed) is not expected to play in the preseason game against the Buffalo Bills Friday, Aug. 26, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

Fantasy Tip: It appears Thompson is dealing with a minor injury and wants to be ready for the start of the regular season. Thompson is expected to be the third-down back this season if Matt Jones is healthy and could be a late-round option in deeper leagues.

Redskins | Keith Marshall turning heads in camp

Tue, 09 Aug 2016 18:43:37 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Keith Marshall is firmly entrenched among the team's top three backs along with RBs Matt Jones and Chris Thompson, and there is a gap between that trio and the rest of the team's running backs, according to multiple sources. Marshall's speed has been the reason he has stood out, and he ran a 4.31 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. "He has that ability, when he does put that foot in the ground, he explodes through the line of scrimmage," offensive coordinator Sean McVay said.

Fantasy Tip: Marshall is only worth a look in deeper fantasy leagues as a late-round sleeper at this point. However, if an injury to Jones or Thompson occurs, Marshall could see plenty of meaningful touches if he continues to show well in training camp and the preseason.

Redskins | Chris Thompson should be ready for camp

Wed, 13 Jul 2016 14:10:08 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (shoulder) did not participate in offseason workouts because of shoulder surgery but should be ready for training camp. Thompson is expected to be the third-down back for the Redskins in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson should receive touches this season as long as he can stay healthy. He probably will be more involved in the passing game than the running game, which should help his value in point-per-reception leagues. He could be considered a late-round option in most leagues.

Redskins | Chris Thompson misses practice

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 22:36:12 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (back) missed practice Wednesday, June 15, as he deals with a back ailment.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson is in a fight for a roster spot, so he'll need to get himself healthy for training camp. Even if he is able to nail down a spot, he is likely to serve only as the third-down back. His fantasy outlook heading into the summer is murky at best.

Redskins | Chris Thompson likely to miss workouts

Wed, 25 May 2016 19:14:49 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (shoulder) likely will not participate in any of the offseason workouts because he is still recovering from shoulder surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson may have to compete for a roster spot during training camp but probably will be used as a third-down back if he makes the team. Thompson could have some value in point-per-receptions but probably can be avoided in most leagues.

Redskins | Chris Thompson on shaky ground?

Thu, 05 May 2016 09:57:10 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson's spot as the backup running back to RB Matt Jones could be in jeopardy after Washington drafted speedy RB Keith Marshall in the seventh round. The Redskins could also re-sign RB Pierre Thomas, which could pose an even bigger threat to Thompson.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson, for now, is the No. 2 runner as the third-down back for Washington behind Jones. That could change quickly, though, and Thompson really is only worth a speculative late-round flier in point-per-reception leagues as a handcuff to Jones.

Redskins | Chris Thompson taking it slow

Wed, 23 Mar 2016 19:42:19 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (shoulder) is recovering from shoulder surgery, and head coach Jay Gruden said Wednesday, March 23, that Thompson might not be ready for the start of training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson is working his way back and could be the No. 2 in D.C. with Alfred Morris moving on to the Dallas Cowboys. He could be worth a look in the later rounds of fantasy leagues which reward points per reception (PPR).

Redskins | Chris Thompson had surgery

Fri, 18 Mar 2016 09:37:56 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (shoulder) is rehabbing from shoulder surgery and is hopeful to be ready for training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson could slot in behind Matt Jones and be worth consideration in the later stages of PPR drafts.

Redskins | Chris Thompson returns to 'Skins

Thu, 17 Mar 2016 15:12:55 -0700

Washington Redskins exclusive-rights free-agent RB Chris Thompson signed his tender offer Thursday, March 17. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: With Alfred Morris unlikely to return to this backfield, Thompson should have a much bigger role alongside Matt Jones in D.C. The second-year back had 35 carries for 216 yards and 35 catches for 240 yards and two touchdowns last year in 13 games. He's more valuable in point-per-reception formats, and he could have RB3/flex value in those setups.

Redskins | Tender offers to three free agents

Fri, 04 Mar 2016 15:04:35 -0800

Redskins | Washington could add running back

Sun, 31 Jan 2016 11:11:14 -0800

Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris may not return next season, as previously reported, which could lead the Redskins to draft a running back or sign a free-agent running back, according to CSNWashington.com's Rich Tandler. Tandler said depth is needed at the position and that RBs Chris Thompson and Silas Redd are both coming off injuries and aren't workhorse backs.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Jones would likely be the heir apparent if Morris leaves. Jones showed flashes of starting ability in his rookie season, but he may not be the answer the Redskins are looking for. There's still plenty of time for this situation to play out, though, so stay tuned.

Redskins | Chris Thompson has successful surgery

Wed, 27 Jan 2016 16:54:43 -0800

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (shoulder) underwent successful surgery Wednesday, Jan. 27, on the torn labrum in his left shoulder. He is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson could have an increased role next season, particularly in the passing game, if Alfred Morris does not return to Washington. He came through whenever the Redskins were behind and needed to pass last season. Keep him on your sleeper radar in PPR formats.

Redskins | Chris Thompson to have surgery

Wed, 27 Jan 2016 08:06:17 -0800

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (shoulder) will undergo surgery on his left shoulder to repair a torn labrum Wednesday, Jan. 27. He injured the shoulder in Week 13 and finished the season.

Redskins | Chris Thompson totals 114 yards

Sun, 10 Jan 2016 18:39:58 -0800

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (shoulder, toe) rushed once for 25 yards in the NFC Wild Card Game against the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Jan. 10, and he added eight receptions for 89 yards. The production was nice considering he entered with a sore toe and a torn labrum in his shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson has tremendous hands out of the backfield for Kirk Cousins, and he might be a decent late-round add for fantasy players in PPR (points per reception) formats in 2016.

Fri, 08 Jan 2016 13:24:10 -0800

Washington Redskins CB Quinton Dunbar (quadriceps), S Dashon Goldson (shoulder, rib) and LB Perry Riley (foot) are questionable for the wild-card game against the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Jan. 10. DE Jason Hatcher (neck, knee), S Jeron Johnson (chest), CB Dashaun Phillips (neck), RB Chris Thompson (toe) and OT Trent Williams (knee) are probable. Dunbar, Goldson, Hatcher and Riley were limited in practice Friday, Jan. 8, while Johnson, Phillips, Thompson and Williams practiced in full. DT Chris Z. Baker (non-injury) was removed from the report.

Redskins | Matt Jones iffy for Sunday

Thu, 07 Jan 2016 16:48:59 -0800

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones (hip) was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Jan. 7, and he said that he "probably" wouldn't be able to play if the team's game was on Thursday. "I can run and do drills, but certain moves, I can't make," Jones said. "I'm still trying to find if I can play through it or not. If I do a cut and feel it, I'm going to try to see if I can push through it and tolerate it to see." RB Pierre Thomas was used as the backup to RB Alfred Morris the last two weeks, while RB Chris Thompson also saw limited work. Head coach Jay Gruden expects to make a decision on Jones either Friday, Jan. 8, or Saturday, Jan. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Jones ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is extremely risky on FantasyScore. He hasn't played in the last two weeks, and the 'Skins play the last game of wild-card weekend. Alfred Morris ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) gains some intrigue as an under-the-radar play as a result. Thomas ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) and Thompson ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) are stabs in the dark as deep sleepers.

Sun, 20 Dec 2015 07:42:17 -0800

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson's (shoulder) status for Week 15's game against the Buffalo Bills remains up in the air.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson practiced on a limited basis throughout the week and is officially listed as questionable on the injury report. When healthy, he serves as the team's main pass-catching running back but he should be avoided in all fantasy formats today due to the uncertainty surrounding his status.

Redskins | Chris Thompson has torn labrum

Fri, 11 Dec 2015 09:39:08 -0800

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (shoulder) is dealing with a torn labrum in his shoulder and could be out this week and possibly longer.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) had carved out a role as a pass-catching back for the 'Skins this year, but his playing time was unstable with Alfred Morris and Matt Jones in the picture, too. With Thompson injured, Jones ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) could become a great sleeper play down the stretch at FantasyScore. Pierre Thomas could see minimal time but is only worth a stab in the deepest of leagues.

Redskins | Chris Thompson sits again

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 15:28:09 -0800

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (shoulder) did not practice for a second straight day Thursday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is the Redskins' main pass-catching running back when healthy. If he isn't able to play this week then Matt Jones ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) would probably see an increased look and would be worth a harder look on FantasyScore.

Redskins | Chris Thompson leaves game

Sun, 29 Nov 2015 11:18:42 -0800

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (shoulder) suffered a shoulder injury during the team's Week 12 game and is considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Jones probably would receive a bigger role if Thompson misses time because of the injury. Jones has played well at times this season and could be a solid option if he receives more touches.

Redskins | Chris Thompson leads weak running game

Sun, 22 Nov 2015 15:50:48 -0800

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson had four carries for 10 yards in his team's 44-16 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Nov. 22.

Fantasy Tip: If Thompson ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) wasn't stuck in neutral, Matt Jones ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) was coughing up the football. The Redskins are going to be in big trouble if they can't run the ball with Alfred Morris sidelined due to rib issues, and neither of these backups carry much FantasyScore value.

Redskins | More screen plays for Redskins?

Sat, 21 Nov 2015 10:53:18 -0800

Washington Redskins RBs Matt Jones and Chris Thompson, in particular, may be in line for more work in the screen game moving forward. Head coach Jay Gruden said he expects Washington to have more success with screens as the season goes on after finding success in that area last week. Gruden added that having a successful screen game is important, especially versus teams with a good pass rush.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Jones ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) certainly benefitted from screens last week, and Chris Thompson's main role is in the passing game. Jones probably has the most PPR value right now among Washington running backs. He's worth a look on FantasyScore this week as the Carolina Panthers have allowed the second-most receptions to running backs this year (61).

Redskins | Probable tag for Chris Thompson

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 16:03:02 -0800

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (back) practiced in full the entire week and is probable for Week 10 against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) didn't receive a single carry last week and had just two catches. It's hard to imagine he'll carve out a big role moving forward as anything more than a third-down option out of the backfield. However, he has more appeal in PPR leagues like FantasyScore, and the Saints are a top 10 matchup for runners in this format. Thompson is a deep sleeper if you're looking to save money somewhere.

Redskins | Full practice for Chris Thompson

Thu, 12 Nov 2015 16:52:01 -0800

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (back) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Nov. 12.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Thompson ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) will be playing this weekend; he's got a tasty matchup against a New Orleans Saints defense that struggles against running backs. The Redskins may be forced to pass a lot in order to keep up with New Orleans, too, and pass-catching has proven to be Thompson's Forte, so don't overlook him on FantasyScore.

Redskins | Chris Thompson a full go in practice

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 16:52:21 -0800

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (back) participated fully in practice Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has been the Redskins' main pass-catching running back this year, and the New Orleans Saints have struggled against such running backs, allowing 54 catches, 483 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns to running backs through nine games. Thompson may be worth a flyer on FantasyScore this week.

Redskins | Chris Thompson probable

Fri, 06 Nov 2015 14:35:29 -0800

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (back) practiced in full for the third straight day Friday, Nov. 6, and is probable for Week 9 against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) does have six catches in each of his last two games, but he hasn't played since Oct. 18. It's a long shot, but he could be involved heavily in the short passing game if the Redskins are playing catchup, although New England has only allowed one receiving score to a runner this year. Thompson is a deep sleeper, at best, on FantasyScore.

Redskins | Chris Thompson has full practice

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 13:32:15 -0800

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (back) participated fully in practice Thursday, Nov. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has Alfred Morris and Matt Jones to compete with, but he has been successful in the passing game this year. If the Redskins fall behind versus the New England Patriots, Thompson should outperform his FantasyScore asking price.

Redskins | Chris Thompson fully practices

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 16:19:41 -0800

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (back) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Thompson ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) is in line to return to action this week against the New England Patriots. The Patriots have been unkind to running backs this year, though, so don't put Thompson on the top of your FantasyScore priority list.

Redskins | Chris Thompson ruled out

Sun, 25 Oct 2015 08:41:51 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (back) has been declared inactive for the Week 7 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Jones ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) should handle Thompson's role as a third-down running back during the game and likely will be more involved in the passing game. Jones will be facing a decent Buccaneers defense but could be a flex option for owners.
