Redskins | Chris Thompson won't play in preseason opener

Sun, 05 Aug 2018 07:19:26 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (leg) will not play in the preseason opener against the New England Patriots Thursday, Aug. 9, according to head coach Jay Gruden.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson has been recovering from a broken fibula but the team is hopeful he will be ready for the start of the regular season. He is expected to serve as Washington's third-down back and should be viewed as a low-end RB2 or high-end RB3 in PPR fantasy leagues.

Redskins | Chris Thompson may be limited early

Wed, 01 Aug 2018 19:31:38 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (leg) should be ready for the start of the regular season, but head coach Jay Gruden said he is not sure if Thompson will be limited during the early part of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson is recovering from a broken leg but likely will be used as a receiver out of the backfield this season. He recorded 39 receptions in 10 games last season and can be a No. 3 running back or flex option in point-per-reception leagues because he should receive a solid amount of targets.

Redskins | Chris Thompson waiting for full recovery

Tue, 31 Jul 2018 16:38:24 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (leg) said he won't be fully recovered from his broken fibula until November - a whole year after suffering the injury.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson avoided the PUP list, but that clearly doesn't mean he's full go. Derrius Guice will shoulder the load on the ground, but Thompson should be able to maintain his third-down role. He has PPR RB2 potential when healthy, but drafting him as a PPR RB3 is more prudent.

Redskins | Chris Thompson avoids PUP list

Mon, 23 Jul 2018 14:54:56 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (leg) said he's feeling well for the starting of training camp but that he will take his participation slowly and focus on being ready for the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson is an invaluable offensive tool for Washington. He'll maintain his role as a pass-catching back as a complement to rookie Derrius Guice. Achieving RB2 PPR status is entirely realistic.

Redskins | 'Unbelievable progress' by Chris Thompson

Wed, 06 Jun 2018 17:43:44 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (leg) has made "unbelievable progress," according to head coach Jay Gruden. He's "fully expected" for training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson suffered a pretty serious season-ending injury last November when he fractured his fibula, but miraculously, it looks like he'll not only be 100 percent going into the season, but he figures to be on a normal practice schedule as well through the summer. Despite being in a crowded backfield, Thompson will have a regular defined role that puts him in the RB2/FLEX conversation.

Redskins | Chris Thompson in line for big role?

Thu, 17 May 2018 19:44:20 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice will likely be the starter according to Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com, but Rosenthal said it "wouldn't be a surprise" if RB Chris Thompson ended up playing more snaps this year.

Fantasy Tip: Prior to his injury last year, Thompson had emerged as a dynamic weapon in the passing game. Expect the same role for Thompson in 2018, and he should be an excellent flex option in PPR formats.

Redskins | Chris Thompson's role not changing

Tue, 08 May 2018 17:19:17 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson will continue to be the top option out of the backfield on passing downs despite the arrival of second-round RB Derrius Guice, according to ESPN's John Keim, who believes Jordan Reed's health will affect the degree to which Thompson needs to be leaned on in 2018.

Fantasy Tip: In six games with Reed last season, Thompson was targeted 21 times and caught 18 passes with two touchdowns. In four games Thompson played without Reed, the former was targeted 31 times with 21 receptions and two touchdowns. Considering Reed's durability issues, Thompson figures to be busy at some point again this season. And as long as Thompson stays healthy, Guice's role in the passing game figures to be limited. Consider Guice a low-end RB2 at best and Thompson a high-end RB3/flex.

Redskins | Chris Thompson able to run again

Mon, 26 Mar 2018 22:14:45 -0700

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (leg) said on his Twitter account that he was able to "run on the field" Monday, March 26, his first time doing so since he had surgery to repair a broken right fibula in December.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson was on pace to set career-high marks in all major categories last year before suffering the unfortunate injury that ended his season. At the very least, he did prove himself to be a useful piece for Washington's running game, and since the club hasn't added any tailbacks, he should be able to resume his role once he's healthy again. Thompson totaled six touchdowns in 10 games and figures to at least carry use as a FLEX option.

Redskins | Washington to add running back?

Wed, 28 Feb 2018 13:27:42 -0800

Washington Redskins RBs Samaje Perine and Chris Thompson will have new company in 2018 if senior vice president of player personnel Doug Williams has his way. Williams said the Redskins undoubtedly have to upgrade at the position.

Fantasy Tip: This year's crop of rookie running backs is fairly deep, so Washington could address the need that way. Perine and Thompson should still have integral roles in the offense, though. Thompson is a PPR stud, but let's wait to gauge their fantasy value until there's a clearer picture of the position's depth.

Redskins | Chris Thompson thinks he'll return to form

Thu, 08 Feb 2018 22:43:16 -0800

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (leg) is confident he'll be able to return to his former self once he's fully healed from his broken leg. "So it's just more of me being patient with it, with the rehab, and just kind of being smart," he said in a radio interview. "I'm known to want to progress as fast as I can, so I think if I just stay patient with the process and everything I should be back to what I was before."

Fantasy Tip: Thompson's owners would love to see him build on what was shaping up to be a real solid 2017 campaign for the fourth-year running back. He was well on pace towards shattering career highs in all major categories before going down for the year with his injury, but his future looks bright nonetheless. Even with Rob Kelley and Samaje Perine still under contract, Thompson could end up ascending to lead Washington's backfield.
