Updating a previous report, Panthers.com reports Carolina Panthers FS Mike Minter (knee) officially announced his retirement Tuesday, Aug. 7. "I've thought about it long and hard. It's been a great 10 years in the NFL. I could not have spent it at a better place than Carolina with an owner like Jerry Richardson. I don't want to be at 80 or 85 percent but want to be remembered as a player who always played at 100 percent," Minter said.

Steve Reed, of the Gaston Gazette, reports Carolina Panthers FS Mike Minter agreed to restructure his contract and save the team just over $1.4 million in cap space. Minter was scheduled to have a base salary of $2.15 million for the 2007 season, but agreed to make $820,000 instead. It is not clear as to whether Minter can earn more through incentives.
