Chiefs | Spencer Ware still likely to start

Tue, 09 May 2017 06:53:11 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware is likely to start and see the majority of the work as the featured back, in the opinion of beat writer Adam Teicher.

Fantasy Tip: Ware posted a 214-914-3 line rushing last year, and he had a 33-447-2 line receiving. He wasn't nearly as effective as in 2015 when he averaged 5.6 yards per carry in a smaller sample size. The Chiefs drafted Kareem Hunt, and he could see a decent-sized role with a good camp. Ware is looking like a low-end RB2 in fantasy.

Chiefs | Andy Reid endorses Spencer Ware

Fri, 14 Apr 2017 19:35:22 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware has a place in the offense, according to head coach Andy Reid. "I'm a big Spencer Ware fan," Reid said. "Well, the kid's dirty tough. He's going to give you an honest down every snap. He's not real fancy that's not his deal, but he can block, he can catch and he can run."

Fantasy Tip: Kansas City could bolster its backfield before the start of the season, but if Ware breaks camp as the starter, he can provide RB2 production.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware consistent in 2016

Sun, 19 Feb 2017 12:45:45 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware rushed for 478 yards and one touchdown at home this season and rushed for 443 yards and two touchdowns on the road.

Fantasy Tip: Ware was the starting running back for most of the 2016 season and could start again in 2017 if Jamaal Charles is released. He should have a solid offense role next season and can be a No. 2 running back for fantasy owners.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware held to 35 yards

Sun, 15 Jan 2017 22:01:26 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware ran eight times for 35 yards Sunday, Jan. 15, in an 18-16 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: Ware's low output was the result of Pittsburgh's stifling run defense, which forced Alex Smith to have to throw more. There was some success on both the running and passing game, but Ware will likely go back into a reduced role next year with Jamaal Charles likely returning. He might make a good handcuff pick, however.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware ready to play

Fri, 13 Jan 2017 15:16:10 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (rib) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 13, and is not on the injury report for the Divisional round playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: Ware received two weeks to rest his injured rib and should receive his normal workload against the Steelers. He will be facing an improved Steelers defense but can be considered a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 running back in fantasy leagues.

Chiefs | Another full practice for Spencer Ware

Thu, 12 Jan 2017 14:56:37 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (rib) practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Jan. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Ware should be at or very close to 100 percent health for the Divisional Round, especially when considering he sat out the team's regular season finale in San Diego a couple of weeks ago as a precautionary measure. He was a little less effective as the season wore on, having scored only one rushing touchdown since Week 6, but he's expected to retain his role as the club's feature back and will be looking at a sizable workload.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware practices in full

Wed, 11 Jan 2017 14:45:11 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (rib) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Jan. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Ware appears to be on track to return to the lineup after missing Week 17 because of the injury. He likely will receive most of the work in the running game if he does not suffer a setback during the week. Owners in fantasy leagues should consider Ware a No. 1 or No. 2 running back.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware expected to be full-speed

Mon, 09 Jan 2017 10:33:57 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (ribs) should be "good to go" for the team's Divisional Round matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Fantasy Tip: Ware set out Week 17 as the Chiefs chose to play it safe with his injury and give him some rest after his effectiveness dropped off in a big way over the second half of the season. He is unlikely to find much success running against the Steelers' improved defense this weekend, so he is more of a low-end option at best in all playoff fantasy formats.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware will not play

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 12:28:26 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (rib) has been declared inactive for the team's Week 17 game.

Fantasy Tip: Charcandrick West should receive most of the work at running back and can be considered a No. 2 running back or a flex option in all fantasy leagues.

Chiefs | Chiefs' Week 17 inactives

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 12:04:54 -0800

Chiefs | Spencer Ware could play Sunday

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 06:30:40 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (rib) is hopeful that he will be able to play in Week 17's game against the San Diego Chargers. He was a limited participant in practice throughout the week and was listed as questionable on the injury report.

Fantasy Tip: Even though Kansas City has already clinched a playoff berth, they still have an opportunity to win the division, so the possibility looms that Ware could see a decent number of carries in Week 17. As extra incentive, he will also receive a $600,000 bonus next season if he gains at least 79 yards today. If Ware is active, he should be viewed as a low-end RB1 or high-end RB2.

Chiefs | Another limited practice for Spencer Ware

Fri, 30 Dec 2016 13:27:10 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (rib) was a limited participant at practice for the third consecutive day Friday, Dec. 30. He is considered questionable to play in the team's Week 17 game Sunday, Jan. 1, versus the San Diego Chargers.

Fantasy Tip: The Chiefs still have the opportunity to win the AFC West division and secure a first-round bye, meaning Ware could tough it out with so much still at stake. He may be hard to lean on regardless, as Kansas City also may elect to limit his snaps if he indeed suits up. If Ware ends up sitting out, Charcandrick West would take over and be worth a look in all formats.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware to be game-time decision

Fri, 30 Dec 2016 11:27:00 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (ribs) will be a game-time decision in Week 17 against the San Diego Chargers, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Fantasy Tip: Ware has been "limited" in practice all week. While he is expected to play, he's not a lock to do so. If Ware is unable to play, Charcandrick West should be in line for a full workload in a solid matchup. In such a case, West would be worth a DFS play based on volume alone in a week where finding running backs with heavy workloads figures to be a huge challenge.

Chiefs | Limited practice for Spencer Ware

Thu, 29 Dec 2016 15:38:01 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (ribs) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 29.

Fantasy Tip: The Chiefs are still fighting for playoff seeding, so they'll want Ware to play as long as he can. The San Diego Chargers have been one of the worst rush defenses in the NFL this year, too. They've allowed 19 total touchdowns to running backs tied for third most in the league. Consider Ware a low-end RB1 to high-end RB2 in Week 17.

Chiefs | Limited practice for Spencer Ware

Wed, 28 Dec 2016 15:56:57 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (ribs) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 28.

Fantasy Tip: The Chiefs still have playoff seeding to determine, so they'll want Ware on the field. He has a great matchup against the San Diego Chargers, too. If he's active then Ware should be started as an RB2.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware set to practice

Wed, 28 Dec 2016 09:48:06 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (ribs) will practice Wednesday, Dec. 28.

Fantasy Tip: It probably doesn't mean much at this point, but Ware had a breakout game against the San Diego Chargers in Week 1 with an 11-70-1 rushing line and a 7-129 receiving line. The Chargers pose a midrange matchup, and Ware will be an RB2 in fantasy.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware could have returned Week 16

Mon, 26 Dec 2016 10:44:53 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (ribs) could have returned to the team's Week 16 win over the Denver Broncos, but the team chose to be cautious and hold him out.

Fantasy Tip: Ware's results from Monday's MRI must have turned out fine, so expect him to suit up in Week 17 versus the San Diego Chargers as the Chiefs take aim on the No. 2 seed in the NFL Playoffs - a goal they can reach with a win over San Diego and a loss by the Derek Carr-less Oakland Raiders in Denver to the Broncos. Ware should be a serviceable RB2 play this weekend.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware to have MRI

Mon, 26 Dec 2016 08:33:53 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (ribs) will have an MRI on his ribs Monday, Dec. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Ware had 13 carries for 62 yards in Week 16 and left with sore ribs. We'll know more about his status after the MRI, but he should remain a solid RB2 if everything checks out.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware grinds out 95 total yards

Sun, 18 Dec 2016 19:57:24 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware rushed 18 times for 70 yards in the Week 15 game against the Tennessee Titans and he added three receptions for 25 yards on his only three targets.

Fantasy Tip: Ware's rushing yardage total was his highest since eight games dating back to Week 6. He still has just one rushing score and one receiving score over the past seven outings and should be treated more as a low-end RB2 heading into Week 16.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware accounts for two TDs

Sun, 04 Dec 2016 14:25:55 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware rushed for 29 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 13. He also caught three passes for 23 yards and one touchdown during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Ware was held in check on the ground, but his two touchdowns helped his fantasy owners in Week 13. He has been pretty consistent in terms of his rushing yards over the past month but has not rushed for more than 70 yards in any of the last five games. He will continue to receive most of the carries in the running game and can be a No. 2 back for owners.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware totals 85 yards

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 19:19:56 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware rushed 17 times for 69 yards in the Week 11 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and he added two receptions for 16 yards on his only two targets.

Fantasy Tip: Ware remains a solid RB2 in most fantasy formats heading into Week 12 in Denver, as the Broncos have been surprisingly giving on the ground this season.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware effective in return

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 13:49:37 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware rushed 13 times for 61 yards and added 11 yards on three catches in a Week 10 win against the Carolina Panthers.

Fantasy Tip: Kansas City was down 17-3 at one point, which kept the offense from really committing to the ground game, despite Ware's per-touch success. He should get on track in Week 11 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Arrowhead.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware ready to return

Fri, 11 Nov 2016 14:09:35 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (concussion) was able to practice in full for a third straight day Friday, Nov. 11, and he is expected to play in the Week 10 game against the Carolina Panthers.

Fantasy Tip: Ware will face a Carolina rush defense allowing just 77.5 yards per game on the ground with only five touchdowns and two runs of 20 or more yards allowed. It's a risky move to use Ware this week in an unfavorable matchup while coming back from a head injury.

Chiefs | Full practice for Spencer Ware

Thu, 10 Nov 2016 17:14:25 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (concussion) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Nov. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Ware looks set to return to the field in Week 10. He should reclaim his lead back role, but he is a RB2 against a tough Carolina run defense.

Chiefs | Full practice for Spencer Ware

Wed, 09 Nov 2016 15:15:48 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (concussion) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Ware is ready to take back his starting mantle in the Chiefs' backfield. Unfortunately, he's heading into a stalwart rush defense in the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers have only surrendered four total touchdowns to running backs through eight games and are only yielding 71 rushing yards per game to the position. Ware should be in starting lineups, but temper expectations.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware will be on the field

Wed, 09 Nov 2016 11:36:58 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (concussion) will participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Fantasy Tip: It appears like Ware is on track to play this week but likely will need to be cleared by an independent doctor before a final decision in made. He probably would receive most of the work at running back if he plays in Week 10 and can be at least a No. 2 running back.

Chiefs | 'Good chance' Spencer Ware plays Week 10

Tue, 08 Nov 2016 09:54:37 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (concussion) has a "good chance" of playing against the Carolina Panthers in Week 10, according to head coach Andy Reid, who quickly admitted Ware still has to pass the league's concussion protocol.

Fantasy Tip: This really serves as a non-update update outside of Reid's enthusiasm, since it was reported Monday Ware was still in the protocol. If Ware is cleared before Friday, he should be considered the odds-on favorite to start. Otherwise, Charcandrick West should get the nod and be a low-end RB2 option against the Carolina Panthers.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware still in concussion protocol

Mon, 07 Nov 2016 11:52:46 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (concussion) remains in the league's concussion protocol, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Fantasy Tip: Players can progress through the final stages of protocol fairly quickly, but Ware owners need to be prepared for another absence in Week 10 against the Carolina Panthers for now. There figures to be several updates between now and then, but Charcandrick West would be in line for another start and would make for a midrange RB2 if Ware sits again.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware ruled out

Fri, 04 Nov 2016 11:49:53 -0700

Updating a previous story, Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 9 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: Ware did not practice at all this week and is reportedly not anywhere close to passing the concussion protocol. Charcandrick West should come close to monopolizing all the touches in the Kansas City backfield, while newly signed Bishop Sankey will probably only see touches if West gets hurt or the game gets out of hand.

Chiefs | No practice again for Spencer Ware

Fri, 04 Nov 2016 10:55:34 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (concussion) did not participate in practice Friday, Nov. 4, and appears unlikely to go in Week 9 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: Charcandrick West will be expected to handle the bulk of the workload if Ware does not play as expected, while newly signed Bishop Sankey will probably receive a few token touches. West is a plug-and-play RB1 this weekend.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware remains out

Thu, 03 Nov 2016 10:17:08 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (concussion) will not participate in practice Thursday, Nov. 3.

Fantasy Tip: It is looking like Ware will not be able to play in Week 9, but he still has not been ruled out at this point. Owners probably should have other options ready in case Ware is not able to play. Charcandrick West likely would be the starting running back and can be a No. 2 running back for fantasy owners if Ware is out.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware to miss practice

Wed, 02 Nov 2016 12:41:08 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (concussion) is still going through the concussion protocol and will not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 2. He has not been ruled out for Week 9 at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Ware has a chance to play this week. He is a solid starting option when he is healthy, but owners will need other options available in case Ware is ruled out. Charcandrick West would start if Ware is not able to play and would be a No. 2 running back or flex option.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware out with concussion

Sun, 30 Oct 2016 12:28:14 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (concussion) suffered a concussion during the team's Week 8 game and will not return.

Fantasy Tip: Ware has played well during the first half of the season but will not be cleared to play again until he passes his concussion tests. He should be a starting option in all leagues in Week 9 if he is cleared to play. Charcandrick West likely would start if Ware is ruled out and would be a No. 2 running back or a flex option.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware totals 131 yards, TD

Sun, 23 Oct 2016 19:26:47 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware rushed 17 times for 77 yards in the Week 7 game against the New Orleans Saints, and he added two receptions for 54 yards, including a 46-yard touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: Ware continues to get the job done, and is a solid RB2 in most fantasy formats. He should have another good game against a dinged up Indianapolis defense in Week 8.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles not ready for full load

Mon, 17 Oct 2016 12:58:58 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) continues to see increased activity, but he is still not ready to assume the full workload according to head coach Andy Reid. RB Spencer Ware outtouched Charles 26-11 in Week 6 and held a 40-15 edge in snaps. "Is he ready to carry it every down? I don't think that's where we're at right this minute. But he got more carries than he did against Pittsburgh, and his attitude from the get go has been give me the ball, I want to play. The attitude is awesome," Reid said.

Fantasy Tip: Ware is still paying dividends for fantasy owners longer than most expected on draft day. Still, Charles is probably going to take over the lead role sometime in the next couple of weeks, making now a great buy-low opportunity for the 29-year-old back and a good time to see what Ware's trade value is.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware struggling with fumbles

Tue, 04 Oct 2016 22:30:39 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware has lost a fumble in each of his last three games. His three lost fumbles are the most in the NFL this season.

Fantasy Tip: Ware's explosiveness has been enough for the coaching staff to look the other way for now, but it sounds as though he might be on thin ice if his ball security doesn't improve. The condition of Jamaal Charles, who returned in Week 4, could also be a factor in how lenient the Chiefs are with Ware. Kansas City is on Bye this week, but it's a situation to be aware of for Ware owners.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware totals 83 yards

Sun, 25 Sep 2016 20:26:41 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware carried 20 times for 75 yards in the Week 3 game against the New York Jets and he added one reception for eight yards on his only target.

Fantasy Tip: It wasn't a great day for Ware, but he was a serviceable RB2 in most fantasy formats. He faces a decent fantasy outlook in Week 4 in Pittsburgh on Sunday Night Football.

Fri, 16 Sep 2016 13:49:25 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (toe) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 16, and is not on the injury report for Week 2.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware back at practice

Thu, 15 Sep 2016 19:06:08 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (toe) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Ware is expected to play in Week 2, and as he showed in the opener, he can be a valuable fantasy starter until Jamaal Charles is healthy and handling a full workload.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware on track for Week 2

Wed, 14 Sep 2016 10:28:33 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (toe) will be "okay" for the Week 2 game against the Houston Texans Sunday, Sept. 18, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Fantasy Tip: It's still worth monitoring Ware's involvement in practice this week, but he appears locked in for another solid fantasy showing. Houston projects as a difficult matchup, but after posting 199 yards from scrimmage on just 11 carries and seven receptions, it's ill-advised to discount Ware's upside.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware sits out practice

Wed, 14 Sep 2016 10:08:17 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware (toe) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 14, because of a sprained toe.

Fantasy Tip: Ware was a fantasy star in Week 1 with 70 rushing yards on 11 attempts, 129 receiving yards on seven receptions and a rushing score. The bulk of his production also came with Kansas City trailing by a large margin, which defies the gamescript typical of monster performances from running backs. With Jamaal Charles (knee) still in limbo for Week 2, Ware stands to have another solid fantasy showing, as long as he's ready to go.

Chiefs | Ware, West split snaps evenly in Week 1

Tue, 13 Sep 2016 09:31:07 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RBs Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West each played 34 of the team's 71 snaps in a Week 1 overtime victory over the San Diego Chargers.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the equal distribution of snaps, Ware owned a clear 18-9 edge in touches and 199-23 advantage in total yards. While West needs to be owned in most leagues should Ware get injured, it is becoming very clear the Chiefs' brass views the latter as the more dangerous offensive threat. Ware should be considered a RB1 for as long as Jamaal Charles is sidelined.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware expected to start

Fri, 09 Sep 2016 18:50:38 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware is likely to start against the San Diego Chargers in Week 1, according to head coach Andy Reid, but Reid said RB Charcandrick West and RB Knile Davis will also be used.

Fantasy Tip: If you plan on gambling on one of Kansas City's backs in Week 1, Ware is your best bet.

Chiefs | Larger role for Spencer Ware?

Tue, 30 Aug 2016 19:04:16 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware has been seeing a lot of the starter's reps in practice in training camp, and RB Charcandrick West gets some, too, as RB Jamaal Charles (knee) has been slow to return to a featured back role after a torn anterior cruciate ligament back in October 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is behind schedule and all indications are that he will not be able to handle the lion's share of the carries like in the past, meaning Ware might be used much more. Ware is worth drafting in the final rounds of all fantasy formats, especially if you draft Charles early on draft day. West is also a decent handcuff if you miss out on Ware.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware scores third preseason TD

Sat, 27 Aug 2016 18:02:28 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware finished with nine carries for 24 yards and a touchdown to go along with four catches for 26 yards in a preseason win over the Chicago Bears on Saturday, Aug. 27.

Fantasy Tip: With Jamaal Charles sitting out yet again, Ware continued to prove he is the handcuff to own in Kansas City despite a less-than-impressive rushing line. The real takeaway is his work in the receiving game, as he has eight catches over the last two preseason contests after posting only six in 11 outings last year. Owners of Charles would be wise to invest a pick in Ware in the early double-digit rounds, while Ware might also provide standalone value as the likely goal-line back to non-Charles owners.

Chiefs | Charcandrick West holds his own

Sat, 13 Aug 2016 15:10:40 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West played behind RB Spencer Ware in the team's preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, Aug. 13, but flashed on a 25-yard run and finished with 35 yards on four carries.

Fantasy Tip: West doesn't project to have an early-season role with Jamaal Charles and Spencer Ware ahead of him on the depth chart, but this performance is just another reminder the Chiefs are as deep at running back as any team in the league. The Abilene Christian product will need some injuries to happen in front of him to be relevant in fantasy, but he has already shown he can produce when given the chance.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware caps first drive with TD

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware got the start with RB Jamaal Charles (knee) still on the Physically Unable to Perform list and did not disappoint in the team's preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, Aug. 13, running for 24 yards on five carries and converting on a 1-yard plunge early in the first quarter.

Fantasy Tip: Ware had the first two drives all to himself before giving way to Charcandrick West, reaffirming the former is in the lead at the moment to be considered Charles' handcuff. The LSU product may also have a bit of standalone value as Kansas City may opt to use him over Charles at the goal line. Ware is one of the better handcuffs available to owners this summer and should be a solid RB4 with significant upside.

Chiefs | Spencer Ware active in passing game

Kansas City Chiefs RB Spencer Ware caught lots of passes in OTAs, according to beat writer Terez A. Paylor.

Fantasy Tip: Ware is expected to be the No. 2 back behind Jamaal Charles. Both Ware and Charcandrick West are worth owning given Charles' injury history, but Ware should be higher on your draft board.
